Rumors swirled recently about the Toronto Maple Leafs trading their 23-year-old left-winger, Matthew Knees, to the Montreal Canadians at the NHL Trade Deadline. These two teens have been fierce rivals since the leak started in 1917, making any deal between them a big shock. One standout example came last year. When Boston Bruins capped in Brad Martian, got sent to the Florida Panthers. Martian had spent 16 seasons with Boston after being drafted in 2006, but the Bruins were out of the playoffs and decided to retool. By moving veterans, Bruins fans were stunned, especially since Florida had knocked them out of the playoffs two years in a row. That trade hit hard right at the Deadline buzzer. Meanwhile, in a wild chain of moves, Colorado Avalanche star, Miko Rantannon, ended up with Central Division rival Dallas Stars before the 20-25 Deadline.
He then helped Dallas beat Colorado in a tense first round series, scoring a hat trick in Game 7 to clinch it after winning a cup with the Avesign, 22-2002. Other notable swaps include Sam Reinhart going from Buffalo Sabers to Florida Panthers in July of 2021, where he exploded for 57. Rivals in 2023-24, and key roles in their back-to-back cup runs.
