• There was an interesting exchange on CNN this week in which The Hill’s associate editor, Niall Stanage, tried to clamp down on discussion of Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, whose full name is Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed. His gripe: using his full name feeds Islamophobic tendencies.
• Police Chief Issa Shahin released a desperate video message urging residents to stay away from Tuesday’s Aug. 18 city council meeting because “anti-Islam protesters,” including activists planning a “Christian Crusader March” to “Stop Islamification,” are expected to show up and exercise their First Amendment rights.
• A new Massachusetts law eliminating gestational limits on abortion has drawn backlash from conservatives and sparked a rift among state Democrats.
• A WNBA task force of team presidents and general managers met yesterday to discuss transgender athletes in their sport but did not arrive at any eligibility rules. They will now work weeks and months who belongs in the league.
