Nick Schmaltz Signs 8-Year, $64M Deal with Utah Mammoth

Utah Mammoth Forward Nick Schmalt signed an 8-year contract worth $64 million on Wednesday.

The deal starts next season with an average annual value of $8 million.

The 30-year-old could have hit free agency on July 1.

This season, Schmaltz sits second on the team with 59 points from 24 goals and 35 assists

over 65 games.

He is plus 21 and logs nearly 20 minutes of ice time per game.

Team leaders are excited about keeping him long-term.

General manager Bill Armstrong called Schmaltz a top player and leader for their young forwards.

Governor Ryan Smith said the extension bill's momentum as Utah grows into an NHL destination.

Schmaltz was the first round pick, number 20 overall, by Chicago in the 2014 draft.

He has 482 points in 653 regular season games across Chicago, Arizona, and Utah, though

he has no playoff, points in four games.

The Mammoth hold the first wildcard spot in the West at 34 wins, 26 losses, and 5 overtime

losses.

They recently locked up forward, Logan Cooley to an 8-year $80 million deal, too.
