Novas Calls For Serious Budget Commitments As Midwest Child Homelessness Hits New High
About this episode
A Clare homeless support service is calling for a serious commitment to tackling the issue in Budget 2027 as the number of children in emergency accommodation in the Midwest has hit another high. The latest report from the Department of Housing shows 394 children were recorded as homeless across the Midwest, a staggering 70% more than the 232 in July 2025. Meanwhile, 98 adults were accessing emergency accommodation in the final week of July, a 34% increase on last year. Head of Advocacy and Communications at Novas, Una Burns, says adequate funding needs to be allocated to both housing supply and homelessness prevention.
