Panthers' Playoff Hopes Hinge on Defenseman Verhoeff

The Florida Panthers are fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive in the Eastern Conference

with a record of 33 wins, 29 losses, and 3 overtime losses for 69 points.

They trail the Boston Bruins by 9 points for the final wildcard spot, but they're still

mathematically in the race, holding onto dreams of a third, straight Stanley Cup.

That push got a boost from last season's trade for defenseman Seth Jones, which included

a top 10 protected first round draft pick from Sending, Goldtender Spencer Knight the other

way.

If it conveys, the Panthers could target North Dakota defenseman Keaton Verhoff to rebuild

their prospect pool.

Verhoff, from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, has impressed at every level from junior hockey

to the Western Hockey League with the Victoria Royals, where he posted 21 goals and 24 assists

in 63 games last season.

Now in college, he's racked up 6 goals and 14 assists with a plus 10 rating over 32 games

on the second ranked team.

Panthers fans and analysts see him as the top defenseman in the 2026 draft class, potentially

stabilizing their shaky bottom defense, pairing that scene constant changes this year.

Adding him would make their already strong roster even tougher for opponents down the

road.

Meanwhile, there's lottery talk, too, with a slim 5.2% shot at the second overall pick

and pinstay forward Gavin McKenna.

But with their forward course stacked, the focus stays on defense, urging general manager

Bill Zito to grab Verhoff if the chance arises.
