Welcome to the transformation station podcast. I'm Christina, owner, operator, and founder of the transformation station, and this is where we talk about getting stronger while navigating real life. If you're trying to stay consistent through the ups and the downs and everywhere else in between, this is for you. Welcome to part two of resting or distracting. Today I'm going to talk a little bit about what resting has looked like for me. It's a little early in the morning again today, but I really wanted to finish the part one and part two. So this is what we're doing today. So something that I, the reason why I made this podcast to begin with is because I realize that there are a lot of people within my space that they, even when they're resting, they feel like they're not actually resting, like they're always consistently tired. And that's something that I recognize in myself as well. It's like always having the brain going or always having the brain on. And I realize that I really do
need to practice something that I talk about often, like having recovery time, having that time off, being able to take time for yourself. And I'll say like an hour of a workout is only 4% of the day, like take time for yourself. And also that's something that I have no, no problem doing when it comes to my workouts. And when it comes to things to do with healthy living and things like that. Like that's just part of my everyday routine is going to the gym, being at the gym, working out at the gym, working out at home some days, because that's what my schedule allows. And also being at the gym to encourage other people as well. And I used to call being available all the time. I used to call that my version of resting because I wasn't physically at the gym or I wasn't physically doing something. But I always had my phone ready. I was always on call. And I always schedules life and stuff around the gym schedule in case somebody needed me for
something. So even if I wasn't physically there coaching, I knew like let's say I'm going to book a massage for the month. I knew that I would book a time where we didn't have classes going on in case a coach needed me or needed me to help with something or if the music wasn't working, I'm not going to what that hasn't happened for a long time. It happened a couple times within the last few years. But I was like, oh my gosh, I have to be readily available because someone's going to call me or something's going to happen. And I've intentionally stopped doing that because I already believe in in my team. And I believe that they have the tools to handle things. And when I let them do what they need to do, that's not me saying like, oh, well, just take care of it. I don't care about you. That's me saying, I trust you and I respect you. And I know that you're going to make the right call for the people that are standing in front of you. And also the right call for the business as well. It has to go hand in hand with both of
those things. So that to me is something that I intentionally stopped doing. I literally was like, you know what, that's the availability that this professional has is 4 p.m. on a Wednesday or Tuesday or Friday or whatever the day was. It really didn't matter because it was every day of the week that I made myself available. And I was like, oh, well, better luck next time or oh, maybe I have to switch providers. And I was like, no, you know what, I am going to take the four o'clock massage because they're interested to do what they need to do. I should be able to make arrangements for my own life that isn't seven days a week, having to be ready to put out fires all the time. And that, that to me is something that wasn't hard to do, but it was like I, it wasn't hard for me to do because I know that I trust the people that are in my circle taking care of the transformation station. However, I felt like, what if they're upset with me because they can't get a hold of me? What if
they want to validate their decision? And I'm not there to validate them. So I was afraid that they would think that I didn't care. Oh, there's, there's something that you need me to come put out of fire. I live three minutes away. I'll be there in three minutes. So I was always on the edge of my seat from the morning till afternoon in the afternoon because we have afternoon classes and then in the evening as well. And on the weekends too. And now I'm like, you know what, we have people places and things in place. There are other people that are well first in the transformation station who are on staff that they can actually help as well. And they're also in the building at the same time. So you can figure it out without having me always constantly having to be there to figure things out too. If you have a key to the gym, it means that I trust you. So that is something that I really, really had to work on because even at night, I'm like, oh my gosh, I didn't even have to coach today, but how come I'm tired? Like I wasn't technically quote-unquote working, but I was constantly working
because I was constantly on my phone. I was constantly updating. I was just always doing something when it comes down to that. And there's sometimes, and I know I talk a lot about people that have kids and like families and stuff like that. And like, like, you're not just the mom version of you. However, today I'm going to talk about like right now in this moment. I want to talk about people that don't have kids because it's easy to compare yourself to be like, oh well, we shouldn't be that busy because we don't have little things, little things, little people to help to care. We don't have those young adults that need guidance to camp you left alone. However, it's very easy to fill your plate with other things as well. It's very easy to keep busy. Everyone has, yes, their version of heart. I'll always say that, but everyone also has their own version of what busy is. And there's sometimes there's some people that put their entire lives into work. And then they're like, oh, I'm just so tired all the time and they're working literally 24 hours a day. And I say that because the other day I woke up at two o'clock in the morning to work out my computer because I needed to get
something done before six o'clock. And I had to bring it with me into the gym because I was coaching from 6 a.m. till 9 a.m. I'm like, well, I need this done now for four six a.m. So I guess I'm waking up at two o'clock in the morning after going to bed at 10 11 o'clock leaving my desk. Like this is this isn't healthy. Something's got to give. So we always have a lot of things on on our plates, regardless if we have kids or we don't have kids. And I'm not going to say one is better than the other and one's harder than the other. I'm going to say they both look different for different people. I know there's some people that they're staying home moms and they are busy as anything. Like they are constantly working. And I'm going to say that is working. You know, people are like, oh, you're staying home mom. You're not going to have a job. Oh, man, I'd rather have a job than being a stay at home mom. And that's why I chose this life. The stay at home mom life is not for the week. I tell you that I can see it. And I'm like, oh my gosh, your little kid has been around me for like an hour. Super fun. But also I'm so glad that they go home with you and not me. So like I can appreciate that as well. And I also can appreciate someone who tries to do both
things because I look at that and like I've heard and this is from outside not firsthand experience obviously, I have heard that when people are putting so much into their jobs and their work and then they feel bad that they're missing things in their kids' lives. And then I hear people that are always constantly putting their lives into their children that their their profession is now suffering in that case. And then they feel bad. They're like, oh, I should probably be doing much. I was sorry, doing more. And vice versa. Like the other day at the gym, someone was I'm like, oh, where's this person? And then her friend was like, oh, she's out doing this protaging canoe trip. I was like, oh. And then I was like, yeah, then I was like, does her kid go to school for the first day today? And she was like, yeah, he's starting high school. And guess what? I'm taking him. I was like, oh, what? I'm like, good for her. I was laughing. I'm like, oh, that is not something I usually hear. Usually people are dropping their kid off at high school for their first day. And they're like, they're wrecked. And they're crying and all those other
things. And I was like, oh, okay, I like that for you. And I've heard that too because it's the beginning of September. There's some people that their kids are starting school for the first time. I'm going to say most of our members at the gym do have older kids, not all of them, but most of them. So it's interesting to see the different context. Some people are driving their kids across the country and to different countries for university and for college. And they're just like a mess. They're like, I'm so happy that they are going to do their own life and their own things. But like, also, I'm kind of devastated and sad at the same time because I actually love my children. And there's some people that are like, oh, my gosh, I can't wait. Why can't they move out? They're going to go to school and stay in my house. Oh, my gosh. I need space. So I hear so many different feedbacks. However, there's so many different styles of what's occupying our minds. So I'm just I just shared what what occupies my mind all the time. And it's like, oh, there's a little blank gap. Let's fill it with worry or let's fill it with with feelings of anxiety or let's not on purpose. Of course, we don't intentionally fill those things. But I think sometimes we need to
intentionally put other things in that place. Like I've said on the podcast before, it's like, okay, how do we do grounding? All right, let's focus on let's pick three things around the room that are pink or whichever. Of course, if you're in an all black room and you're looking for something that's bright orange, you're probably not going to find it. But like, what on to the street or while you're driving like, oh, let's look for three blue cars. And I mean, like, obviously pay attention to driving first. But when you're starting to get overwhelmed, it's good to be like, oh, this is what it is. On the on my Instagram story the other day, I had posted about like someone trying to get into my specific personal account and like fake Instagrams and fake Google things. And I was like, what, like I was kind of, I was like, I was really freaking mad. And I was like, you know, I don't talk about these things. I'm going to talk about it now. We're talking about this. I'm tired of sweeping this under the rug. I know that it's going on. And this is this is a reality. And Jennifer, who teaches Kettlebell at the transformation station, she wrote on it or she wrote, I think it was a private message. I don't know if it was on the stories. Now you can write comments
on the Instagram stories, the Instagram stories on Instagram stories. Anyway, I read somewhere that she wrote, this person needs to go and touch grass. And I was like, I don't know what that means. And normally I would have actually googled it. But I was out with the dogs yesterday. And with Chris, and we, they, they free range, they run, they have amazing, amazing recall. And we go on Crownland actually. So we were out there with the dogs. And I was like, I got to touch grass. And so I touched the grass. And I'm like, Oh, this is actually pretty grounding too. I think that's what that meant. And then I was like, we're in a field. Smells like cow dung out here. I'm like, I gotta go wash my hands now. So I did try that. I'm like, that's pretty neat actually. And I know that she's very well versed in like forest bathing and meditation and things like that. So I was like, okay, she knows something. And I know that that was meant as in like, if you kind of a thing, like go touch grass. But I was like, Oh, she said that person needs to touch grass. Maybe that
actually does something. Let me go try. So that worked awesome. So those are a couple things that I've intentionally been doing is like letting, letting the people that I entrust, empowering them and just keep telling them, like, no, I trust you to make the right decision. It's going to be all right. Like you, you know the policies of the gym. You know how things are handled. You know, you know these things. It's very transparent. So now I'm just working on boosting their confidence to be like, no, no, no, like you are good. I'm telling you, you are good. And know some, some of the coaches sometimes like they, they believe it, but they don't actually believe it. I'm like, no, you can roll this out because you are brilliant. And you got it. Like trust yourself, trust your craft, trust what you're doing. Let's go. Like this is amazing. And there's, there's sometimes when I'm like, they bring me something. And I'm like, this is amazing. This is, this is really, really great. You should share it with the members. And they're like, no, maybe it needs,
it needs to be better. And I'm like, what? How can this possibly be better? I'm, how many years of experience with this? Like this is incredible. And they're like, well, maybe when it's ready, I'm like, okay, I know that you're the personality type that you're going to feel like this is never ready. Unless I push you to do it respectfully. Here you go. Okay. And then they'll implement it a little bit. And they're like, oh, this was actually great. And members loved it. I'm like, surprised. But so sometimes in order for like for myself, anyway, maybe this is you too, maybe in order for us to have freedom, it's trusting what the other person is, is doing. And what they, what they can do. And also, let's go back to the school thing again. Maybe it's putting trust in your child because you have equipped them for this moment. But it's you, that's the trade record. That's the mess. And you're like, you know what? I just need to trust that. They, they know my door is open. Everything's going to be all right. Like this is going to be okay. They're
ready. And sometimes it's just letting them have that that little piece of confidence. And sometimes this happens with family members. It doesn't matter if it's kids or or parents or cousins or sisters or nieces nephews, whatever, even our in our friendship circle. Sometimes we don't always have to be on for everybody because we can help them build that confidence. We're like, it is going to be all right. Just like there's sometimes there's there's people that have their, their phones on all the time. And I see this in the gym as well. If it, especially if they have adult children and they're carrying around their devices in case they need to call and vent and cry, but something their, their boyfriends or their girlfriends did to them or something. And I'm like, you know that you can take an hour for yourself. And that mountain that they're going, have going on at 40 years old or 30 years old. They're going to figure it out. They don't need to interrupt your one hour of workout for that. I mean, like emergencies happen for a reason.
Also, I remember when I was young. I used to like, my mom was like the opposite of helicopter parenting. And I remember one day, like there was kids at school and they were doing like drugs and doing things that I was like, what, what are you doing? Like I work downtown Barry as a 14 year old girl. And these are things that like the people of the downtown, like that's what they do, not all of them. But I'm just saying like that's how I thought when I was and people in my in my class and my grade were doing those things. And I remember one day, like I asked my mom something and I just needed needed and wanted attention. And she's like, Christina, like stop. Just leave it. And I'm like, mom, you know what? I could be like the other kids in my class. I could be doing drugs. Maybe I'll go find some marijuana. And this was like marijuana and drugs and all those things. Like we had the police that came in and did like VIP, I think I want to say it was called. It was like some anti drug program. It was like once a year or twice a year, they would come in and everyone would get t-shirts and we'd sign t-shirts.
None of the t-shirts fit me. So I never actually got a t-shirt for people to say, oh, it was called dare. That's what it wasn't like. I can see the shirts. So like I remember saying that to my mom, I'm like, mom, you know what? You don't want to pay attention to me. Maybe I should start doing drugs. Maybe I should start drinking. Maybe I'm going to be like my other kids in my class. And she's like, go ahead. I'm busy. And she shut the door. I'm like, what? You missed the whole point of my entire threat. And then that was it. I was like, okay, did I go do those things? No, I did not definitely, I definitely did not go and do those things. But I was like, okay, rude. But then I see some parents that are, I guess what we call helicopter parents. And they're like, I have to be available every time. I have to check on them. I have to do all of these things because they're going to do this. And I remember my mom's best friend. So they moved up to Barry together, not together, but they made the choice. Both of them. They ended up in their own houses, of course. But I'm not, of course, some people migrate as a group. But anyway, my mom's best friend from when she was 16 years old. They lived in Toronto. And I remember growing up. And when we moved to Barry, I remember
like the mom, my mom's friend, but I would always say that she never said anything bad about me. But she always said stuff about my brother. And she's like, oh, he's going to end up in so much trouble. And he's going to be like the scum of the earth. And he's going to end up like needing a lawyer and going to jail because Marco's a bad kid. And I was like, what? I remember it was actually her son. And I'm not saying any names in this person's not even around anymore. And I didn't understand as a kid. But I remember they blamed my brother for like lighting a church on fire. It was an abandoned church across the road from their home. It was in Barry. And my mom was like, excuse me. Marco wasn't even there. I was like, huh? It was like the one son and the other two friends. It was like three of them. And my mom was like, I get a grip on that. And I remember that she used to be so hard on my mom for her parenting lifestyle. And she was always like, my kids are going to grow up to be better than your kids and your kids. Like they're not,
they're not emotionally taken care of. And they're not parented properly. And you're always yelling. And yes, sure. My mom is still always yelling. Okay. Like that's just that's for me. That's a normal thing. But like I'll never forget that. And like this woman, she was like, Oh, I'm going to take away all my kids things. And she had three of them. And she's like, they're going to be grounded. And like, do you know what you did wrong and all these things? And like I'm not saying that's not a good parenting style. I'm just saying the contrast and how they said that we were going to turn up, mostly my brother. And in the contrast of what she did with her kids, I was like, okay, that's cool. And I remember as a kid hearing that all the time. And now fast forward, like we're all adults in this place. My brother goes to work. He goes home. So I think sometimes he fishes. I know he likes fishing. Now he picked up tennis because he's lost some weight and he's feeling good about himself, which is amazing. So he's picked up tennis. I'm like, okay, do you want to play pickleball?
He's like pickleball tennis. I'm like, okay, Mr. Elite over here. But like, yeah, he's a little bit of a shit distributor here and there. And he has a temper on him. He's like the Hulk. Sometimes if you never know when he's going to go off, that's the thing. But like, he's doing all right. Like he's not in and out of jail. He's not doing drugs and he's not doing any of those things. And I'm not shitting on some people have addictions. And that's just what it is. On the contrast, this woman that was always saying bad things about my brother and my family, that's her kids, all of them. So like it's it's really, really interesting how sometimes people can pass judgment and say, well, you should do that or you should do that. So I'm not going to say, I'm not going to sit here and say, you need to ignore your kids because I'm not a parent. I can't tell you that. You're going to figure it out on your own. All I'm all I'm saying is that if you don't take the time for yourself and you're always on 24 seven, the same, same way that I was doing. And of course, like mine are not with living beans. I mean, I have animals. I spend lots of time with my animals, but like my work is not a living being, living being. I mean, like there's living
beans obviously inside of it and you're listening to this. So you're a living being as well. However, it's a little bit different. But what I'm saying is if you're always on and you don't take the time for yourself, maybe it's empowering the people around you to be able to do things that if you have like two year old three year old four year old five year old kids, anything that's small like that. Like of course, I'm going to be like, I entrust you to take care of the house. And then you lock the door and you leave. Don't do that. Not only is it illegal, but it's incredibly not wise. It doesn't doesn't even need to be illegal for it to not be wise, right? So like things are in place for a reason. There's babysitters. There's there's there's family. There's whatever you could pay someone that you know and love and trust and that that's a whole nother can of worms. That's up to you. That's not up to me. I can never even imagine. But like if you don't take care of yourself now and give yourself that piece, stress is ugly and stress shows up in sickness. It shows up in pain. There's all different ways that stress shows up. It shows up with a tight neck. It shows up
like a cramp in your foot sometimes. Like stress can show up as so many different things and you will grow resentful. If you're like, I can't even have two seconds to go to the bathroom by myself without my kids needing something, you can also implement those boundaries. So that's that. And it doesn't matter if it's kids or your profession. There's sometimes an I know. So I'm going to say maybe like eight months ago, we had a staff meeting about communication and about how things how we want things to be inside of the gym, how we want our communications to be, and how we want how we expect conversations to be on the gym floor. And like all of those types of things like I'm like, okay, we just need a refresher because we went through a little bit of turmoil with someone that I ultimately ended up letting go. And I'm like, okay, team, are we good? Are we all right? Like I know you all have emotional damage also from that individual. So I'm here to make sure we're having an in person meeting. And I don't like to have meetings and less it's like I'm like, oh, this meeting could have been an email. I'm very big on that because I know
people have very busy lives. And a lot of people in the gym are working different jobs or corporate jobs or nine to five jobs out of town jobs, online jobs. And then there are three or four people that the transformation station is their meat and potatoes. And that's how they pay their mortgage. So we have all different types of people. And I'm like, you know what? This is definitely a need for in person because I want to make sure that the energy is to look cultivated. Everything is still strong. And do you need to be taken care of right now emotionally? Like what do you guys all need for me? Because I'm here to help. And I want to make sure that we are not drilling holes. Like there's that person was drilling holes in our boat while we were all in it. So I'm like, okay, this is damage control. Also, I want to make sure how do you like to be communicated with? And this isn't a whole team blanket. This is as an individual. Do you want me to send updates as an email? Do you want updates only as it concerns your classes at your coaching? Do you like text messaging?
If you are not working on that day, I don't want to text message you. And there's sometimes I think about that. Like I on yesterday. So it was Tuesday. I said, I'm like, you know what? Powerburn 545. Let's try buts and guts because let's just throw that in there. I know the coach prefers it better. And I know that we don't have a buts and guts at 545 during the week. And we do have quite a bit of strong fit. So I thought Powerburn would have been a really good fit. It used to be a very good fit. So I'm like, let's just try buts and guts in that spot. And let's just see how it rolls. Then I made that decision. I make my decisions pretty quickly, not based on emotion, but just based on, okay, what time and effort can I do in this spot that might show that it'll yield success. And I looked at the data for buts and guts. And I asked people around the gym throughout the weekend, like, hey, do you guys like buts and guts or Powerburn or circuit? What's your favorite classes? A lot of people were like, both, both, both. I'm like, okay. So I'm like, let me just try that. And I was like, oh, I should probably it was Tina. I'm like, I should message coach Tina. I'm like, it's a holiday Monday, like Christina relax. And although there's certain people in
that actually everybody was like, just message me as you need. Like we don't really care. I'm like, okay, I don't want to be messaging you on time off or like, you're not paid for that. So I want to respect the boundaries. But this I don't give me an answer right now. Think about it. Let me know in the next 48 hours how you want to be communicated with. And some people might say, Christina, that's overkill who cares. However, there's some people out there and I hear their bosses are horrible monsters. And they're always constantly. I watch the show, the show, the movie, Spaw Weekend. Actually, my friend, Christine and myself and Chris, my spouse, that's all three of us are essentially Christina's actually. We went to the movie theater and we watched the show, the movie, Spaw Weekend. It was so good. And the one woman there, she was on vacation at a resort. And her boss was calling her having mental breakdowns of things that weren't real mental breakdowns. But that could have been handled without her. But it was no. And if you don't answer me right now, you're fired and all this stuff. I'm like, that is such an extreme type of boss. So for me, I'm like, if you're happy, I'm happy. The gym's happy business is happy. Members are happy. Everyone's happy. That to me is the
goal. I want to make sure that my team is happy because when the team is happy, everybody's going to be happy too, right? So like, I remember she said to me, she's like, no, message me. Like it's good. It's gravy. And if you know coach Tina, like she's so laid back, I know on our podcast episode that I did with her a few weeks ago, she's like, I'm moody. But the thing is, you just got to put your toes in the water and see how it's going. And like, that's just that's people. Not everybody is going to be exactly that. Like I appreciate the authenticity. I appreciate when people are genuine. And if you're genuinely a crabby person, sometimes that's going to be okay. If you're genuinely a happy person, then that's going to be okay too. Not one again is going to be better than the other. They're just different personalities. And I don't ever expect everybody on the team to be cookie cutter. They exact same way because a, that's exhausting and b, that's not providing members with different coaching styles, different personalities. So we're all making the same recipe. Like I say, like we always do, this is what we do. This is the transformation station. These are our standards. All of our coaches hit those standards. What is it that they're
uniquely bringing to the table? So my first instinct was, oh, I should probably message her, but then I went, uh, pump the brakes. It's holiday Monday. I know that she said you can message me any time. However, I don't feel good about that. So I'm just, even though I was working on a Monday and coaching and working 10 hours in my desk, that was a choice that I made not for somebody else. So I waited until Tuesday. And it was like the afternoon sometime, I think. And I sent her a quick text. I fired her off. I'm like, hey, just so you know, I don't know if you saw it already. There wasn't anyone reserve for the 545 power burn. I subbed it in with butts and guts. And then a few people reserved. I sent out a mass text. So people knew. And then the class was glorious. It was great. And I on there's two ways I could look at that. I could look at that from her perspective and make judgment, say how she would feel about it. And I could say, oh, Christina cared more about letting everybody else know and changing on on the schedule before she left me, who's coaching so that could be one perspective. The other perspective could be well with the true perspective is,
is, oh, she respected my holiday off. She cares that I have time. That's not just about work. Because she knows that I'm very heavily loaded with my my day job all the time that I needed a I needed space to breathe. So thank you. I really love that she cared about my holiday that she let me know on on the Tuesday before the way before the class and the programs already done. But enough notice that she can go and check in the programming to see what it was that she was teaching for that evening. So like that to me is different perspectives and that's respecting space. So sometimes there's a boss or your workplace or your coworker that's always blowing up your phone and maybe it's having the conversation of, hey, how do you like to be communicated with? And I know that sounds like 2026, hokey, pokey, but like people are people and people are amazing. Like I, firstly, I don't know what Tina's take was on it. It wasn't that deep. We didn't actually talk about it, but I'm using that as an example as someone who allows you to have your time in space
even within a professional setting inside of a workplace. And if your team around you isn't respecting the space, maybe it's having a meeting to say, how do you like to be communicated with? Because I want to respect that. And I don't want you to answer and say, oh, this is someone I love that's on the team. And they said this way. So I want to be like them. And I don't want to be the odd person out. I said, get back to me. Think about it. You got 48 hours. Everybody in the in the spot was like, for you know, who cares? Like just message us. We don't care. I'm like, no, hold that thought child. You get back to me in 48 hours. These answers are private because I'm going to respect you guys as individuals, not as just one clump of a team. And that's why I do believe we don't actually have high turnover at the transformation station. When you look at the coaches we've had, they've all worked there and been members there for at least one, two, three, four, five, six, seven years. So like it's it's proof in the pudding that helping to cultivate our culture, not just within our membership community, but also within our staffing community as well.
That to me is one of the best things that that we can do. It's taking out the team. Like I spoke to another business owner. Actually quite a few of them. The specific business owner was from out of the town and we hooked up on Instagram. And we were talking about like the team and just different business things and what the area is like. And I said to her, I'm like, no, I take care of my my team. And she was like, well, are you subcontract? Do you subcontract any of your coaches? So it's like you hire them as their own business. It's actually technically better for business on taking care of the employers side. But I'm like, no, actually all my staff are on the books. And they are employees of the transformation station because then I can start to implement things that are taking care of my employee, not just taking care of the business or myself. And I said, I'm like, we do fun things. We go and do things like when we have things where we go out as as a gym, the coaches and the ambassadors, the staff, they don't they don't pay for their things because I do. And like we go out for Christmas and we have like a big gym community thing.
But then we also do stuff as a team as well. And the gym covers those expenses because I want them to have like a perk to be like, you know what? Yeah, you're getting paid to do these things. But also I appreciate you so much that I want to go above and beyond. So like on Friday, this week, soon actually, I'm taking the whole team to go pickleballing and I hired a coach. We could have went outside and it's free outside. But I'm like, you know what? I want to I want to generate a really good experience. I'm excited. I at first, I'm like, well, don't you guys want to go paint ball? And everyone's like, we don't want to get hurt. We don't want to have bruises. I was like, okay, I guess we're not doing paintball. And then we went, I'm like, what about rock climbing? What about pickleball? What about these things? And I said all these different things. And the Comagen Omnator was actually pickleball. I was like, okay, team, we're going pickleballing. And now I'm super excited. I saw I saw the group chat today. I got to get back to them. But I was too early for me to message the group chat. But I saw them like talking about it and oh my gosh, so coach Kim is really good at like everything. And it's so irritating to everybody on our team.
But like, even stuff she doesn't normally do. She's just naturally like a sport athletic person. And she's competitive, but like she's not mean, of course. And like someone was like, oh, I'm not, I don't want to be on on the same side as as Kim. And then someone's like, no, I want to be on the same side as Kim. And then someone's like, nope, I'm out. We're not like not out as in like leaving. Like we're all going to go and it's going to be fun. But like, I don't want to be with Kim. No. And some people like, I need her on my team. And I don't know what what Tina actually, I'm talking a lot about Tina. This podcast episode. But I don't I don't know exactly what Tina had had written. But I was like, oh my gosh, same. And that's what I wanted to write. But it's way too early to respond. And I'm like, no, I'm with coach Tina, man. Like I'm just there for the good vibes. It's not that serious. I'm just there to have fun and laugh. I'm going to I'm going to watch like the the takedown between the coaches playing pickleball. But that's something that I did say to this business owner. I'm like, no, I want to take care of my team. And one day I hope that the business
racks up enough air playing miles. That one day I'm going to take us all for vacation. Like that to me would be a dream. And that's something like people have asked me like, what's your goal for your business? And I'm like, well, everyone already, the clientele of the transformation station, they already are really excited about the space. They're always getting upgrades. They're doing all these things, even on the coaching side. Like everyone now has their own microphone. Like we got fans that no one has to fight over the fans. Like we're always implementing fun and good things. But my ultimate goal for the transformation station is that it thrives so much for the members as well. But also for the staff, there's one day that now we're gaining momentum. But there's one day that I hope that the gym is prosperous enough. The transformation station brand is prosperous enough that it can pay for flights for my staff to go on vacation. I hope one day that all of it we get along really well actually, especially when we get together. It's always like, why do we wait three months to do all of these things? But it's like, oh, right. Because every time we try to make plants, everybody has so much stuff on the go in their own lives. So it's nice that at least once
every three months, we can get together. And I laugh because of that because there's some friendship circles where they see each other once a year. But I hope one day that I can provide that gift to my core staff and say, okay, we're going on vacation. Like it's over Christmas time. The gym is closed over Christmas. Let's go bring your family who cares or like, you know what I mean? Like stuff like that. So that to me would be amazing. But that is also interesting people and making them feel good because when people are entrusted and you're like, you know what? It's not that I don't care about you. It's that I trust you and you have the confidence to do what it is that you need to do because you know, a, we take care of the business and the members, the members and the business. I'm not going to say one before the other, but both at the same time. If it takes care of the member and not the business and insane that, I want to always take care of the members. It has to be as an umbrella. It can't be. We take care of one person's needs and it distrusts the rest of our members group. It has to be that it's good for all members and that umbrella.
It also has to be good for the umbrella of the entire business as well. And insane that if it's good for the whole umbrella, it's going to be good for the business as well. So that is just something that I always keep in the back of my head. But it's also interesting your people, places and things, whatever it is that you're working on taking care of in order to have that rest. So maybe it's turning around and working to, you got to maybe sometimes work a little overtime to have those uncomfortable conversations in order to have the takeaway that, okay, I'm going to work hard and communicate and make sure that I'm having sometimes. I know I have a lot of any Graham twos around my circles. So that's people that are, they're considered the helpers. They want to help everybody. They don't want to be an inconvenience. And that's why I'm like, hey, I know you're giving me an answer. Wait 48 hours because I know how you operate. You want to do your best. Do you want to help and help and help? I'm like, I want to make sure that you are helping when you want to help and how you want to help. And you're not going to turn around tomorrow and have any animosity because if you don't tell people what it is, if you don't explain
what your boundaries are, not even explain it, even just implement your boundaries. They're not going to respect them because they don't know. How do they know if you don't tell them? How do you know that you want? How do your kids know or your family knows or your boss knows if you haven't communicated what your communication style is? If you're trying to go to the bathroom and you're always letting your kids win and open the door and you're like, oh my gosh, I can't even go to the bathroom. I'm sorry, but you deserve to have five minutes of peace to go to the bathroom and take care of yourself without every time someone banging on that door and needing something. It's going to be a hard conversation. And sometimes it's going to be uncomfortable because you're like, well, really, I feel bad. There's a lot of people that they don't have these conversations or implement these boundaries because they actually feel guilty and they feel bad. They're like, well, now I'm carrying about myself and not everybody else, but you got to care about yourself too. Maybe there's a happy medium that you can find that says, okay, this is my schedule. It's only 4% of the day. I'm taking that time for myself and I'm not going to feel guilty. And push comes to shoves. There are real things that happen and you miss that time. The one day it's going to be okay. All right, I just looked at the
time. I got to go. So I'm going to leave you with this. Sometimes rest doesn't mean that you have to pull back and disappear from your entire life and isolate yourself just to have that little piece of rest. Sometimes it is being present in your life and letting yourself be in your life without consistently needing to people please everybody else or needing to feel like you have to have that sense of accomplishing something all the time. So that to me is going to be your takeaway for this episode. It's the same thing that I've taught myself. It's I'm trying to explain this episode in the very best context, but I do understand that there's so many different people that listen to this podcast episode. So I hope that there was a little piece of this that resonated with you. If this did resonate with you and this is something that you're like, oh, this was great. I love feedback.
