2:06Andy, I'm going to throw some penatue today. Obviously college football is in full swing. I know you're paying attention to it, but obviously Gonzaga is a basketball school. I don't think we're breaking any news on that. And Gonzaga needs to be, you know, Gonzaga fans need to pay attention and need to care about Pack 12 College football because there are so many ramifications on how that can help improve this conference as a whole. I'm going to throw on right at you. I mean, I think the easiest thing is, is if the Pack 12 is a successful football program and they get themselves in the college football playoffs, it's three to four times over the next five years, that's only going to help with things that's like the media deal, more money, which means more resources for all these programs, which means it's a competitive conference. That's even better for Gonzaga down the stretch. Yeah, I think there's a question I've gotten a lot over the last couple of weeks is, you know, from people like what, you know, what, which we make of the Pack 12 for football, like should we be rooting for every team? Like, you know, and I tend to tell people like I do what you want as a fan, like I'm

3:07not going to tell you how to, how to root. Like if you've always hated Washington State and it's really painful for you to root for the Cougars fine. I understand that if you've been a lifelong Washington State football fan, which a lot of Gonzaga fans have, because that's the most local, you know, high end football program, then great, keep rooting for them. Like that's awesome. But I would say what I say to those people and what I want to say here is like, there is a financial advantage and a reputation advantage for Gonzaga every time a Pack 12 school does well and vice versa. Again, I Gonzaga's reputation is not tarnished by Fresno State getting killed by USC, but it like if those results continue to happen, if repeatedly this conference doesn't do what is expected of it from a football perspective, that is going to hurt. That is going to hurt Gonzaga's reputation a little bit, which is fine. Like, that's, you know, people can say whatever they want on Twitter and that's okay. But it ultimately could hurt meteorites deals. It could hurt national perception in terms of like how often they're on CBS versus being

4:09on other channels. And then financially, I mean, I think that's the big one is more money coming into this conference. Gonzaga is not going to get a piece of any of the football revenue, like the football, the money that they get from making the conference, the college football playoff and making ball games and stuff that gets split out among the eight football playing schools. Gonzaga does not get a piece of that pie nor should they. I think that's completely justified. And the other eight football playing members probably don't want to give up their specific football money to Gonzaga. Gonzaga obviously will get a good chunk of the basketball money for making the NCAA tournament. But so that money doesn't directly come to Gonzaga. If Boise State's continually, you know, in the top 25, which they should have been this week, they make the top 25 next week and then they make, they get that college football playoff spot, that only serves to help Gonzaga for a variety of reasons. So I think it's important. You don't have to pick a specific team. They don't have to, you know, watch every game by any stretch, but it's important to

5:09have to understand that there is a vested interest for Gonzaga and this conference doing well. Yeah, I like the hidden success factor there. It's the fact that if the Boise State, the San Diego State, it's if the Fresno State can turn it around, they have a really good defense, by the way, the offense is just struggling. Washington State, we saw that defense on full swing in the Apple Cup. He's got to get that, that offense rolling as well. But these teams can be successful to the fact to wear fans, not just on the West Coast. The fans are willing to stay up and bring back that good old Pac-12 after dark, right? And they want to watch Pac-12 basketball. That means that they're going to start liking those programs even more. They're going to get that feel. We saw it happen with the old conference. You can get that happening with their new conference again. And that's only going to help in benefit Gonzaga down the long run. Yeah, maybe not for an actual dollar to dollar immediate standpoint saying you're getting a college football dollar, but I love that point. The Boise State to the world, the Fresno State, San Diego State to the world can get more competitive in all their sports, especially basketball, it could make that conference

6:11even better. We're talking about Kempom and Dorvik rankings being even better. And that only helps Gonzaga's and their strength of schedules and all that stuff. And we can go into basketball, we can go into baseball. It means a lot. It's football is where it all starts. It just is. I think we all know this. That's why Gonzaga's takes along, I think, to become into a conference. That's why there was maybe some controversy about them being a full share member. Obviously, I love it. But it starts with football. And if they can find a way, Gonzaga fans, you find a way to love it. Find a way to get invested in it. I think it'll go a long way for the basketball season without question. Yeah. I mean, to me, I just think it's one of those things where the idea of football has been kind of foreign to Gonzaga fans for so long. I mean, with WCC hasn't had it. I think a lot of fans of Gonzaga are either wazoo fans or they're Washington football fans or they don't care about college football at all. Obviously, you have some who are like Eastern Washington fans or Idaho or somewhere else entirely.

7:11But there is a reason to at least be paying attention to this. And I think while we talk a lot about like rooting for them to be successful, I think another, maybe even more significant part of it, is rooting for them to not fail. And there's a slight distinction there of like if a team plays, like if a team does, like boys, you stayed lost, but they played extremely well. Washington stayed lost, but they held their own against Washington. And then Fresno stayed lost in a way that was a bit worse than expected. And then obviously, have Utah State falling on their face. And like, the bottom tier teams aren't going to matter all that much. But if boys and Fresno and San Diego State and those teams that are kind of expected to be near the top are really faltering, like significantly to the point where it's making national news of like, wow, this, like if people are starting to talk negatively about the conference of like, oh, they thought they're going to be good and they're not, that is more concerning. If the conference just does what it's supposed to do and is maybe slightly better great, but them being bad would really, I think, could seriously hurt as they're trying to rebuild

8:13right now. So I think for people who really are trying to care about this and just are having a hard time, root for them not to fail. Like that's maybe the easiest way to do it. Obviously, finding success making the playoffs would be great. But as long as this conference doesn't completely, you know, underperform compared to where they're expected to be, that should be fine for Gonzaga. So if you decided that you didn't want to watch college football last week, but now you're deciding to get into it and you're like, oh, no, I'm behind. When we got you covered, obviously you can go hang out and check out lockdown pack 12. We drop multiple episodes every single day. But we just released our latest pack 12 power rankings, boys, these states at number one, San Diego State number two, those two had great games over the weekend. Washington State did lose to Washington in the Apple Cup, but they looked successful. Morgan State, they had a really bad year last year, but they kept it close with a top top 25 team against Houston. They did fall, but they looked really good. They have a really good quarterback. Seems exciting stuff. Colorado State might be the most surprising team in the conference so far with how their entire team just kind of look consistent.

9:15They won their rivalry game, the border war against Wyoming. We talked about Fresno State kind of having a down game. They're number six, Texas State at number seven. They got the breaks blown off them by Texas, but they'll be back. Don't worry. And then I made a joke. And honestly, Andy and I said, Gonzaga is actually eighth in the power rankings and then it's Utah State at number nine. So Utah State had a really bad game. They lose to an FCS Idaho State. So there's your little fill in about college football where the pack 12 is heading in the week too. And then we miss this week, Gonzaga fans or anybody else that's listening to this show. Tune in. There's going to be some really good games. Boise State Memphis is going to be a really good game that has college football playoff implications. Lots of good stuff on the docket. Andy, it's been a minute since you and I talked we missed last week. We didn't get a Zigg or Zag. I didn't get your serious or non serious questions. We'll get those in just a minute. Don't worry. Get an update on everything that's going on. How's your law degree going? How is the litigation happening? Give me an update. What's going on in the college basketball world, especially with Gonzaga basketball as we

12:17enter the month of September? Well, it was a good time for us to miss a week, Christian, because it was actually for the first time kind of a quiet week. There haven't been a lot of quiet weeks for Mark few in the Gonzaga Bulldogs this off season. It feels like they've been adding players, losing players, having players be eligible, all sorts of chaos, losing coaches. It's been nuts. It was a little nice to have a bit of a reprieve. It was the first time pretty much this entire year where I was like, you know, I actually have to think about what to talk about on the show. I have to plan before it was kind of like, well, it was laid out for me because we knew kind of things that were happening. Right now, where we're at with Gonzaga is they have nearly a full roster assuming everybody is eligible, which they are not. It's obviously part of the equation for the team. Scotterwicks decommits from the program after Xavier and Lee does commit. So now we have one extra spot. Five guys still in eligibility limbo of those five. Two of them are currently eligible. That would be Florida transfer guards, Xavier and Lee and Florida state wing, Chancy

13:17Wiggins. The other three are Javon Bennett from Dayton, as well as the two international players, 23-year-old French guard Nathan D'Souza and 21-year-old Big Man, Easton, El Monsa. So a couple of recent updates to talk about there. The Ohio lawsuit, which was the first one where a judge granted a preliminary injunction for student athletes to be eligible, that was the case that was stayed by the NCAA meeting while the appeal process is happening. Those student athletes are not eligible to play that includes Javon Bennett, which is why he is currently not eligible to play for Gonzaga. The plaintiffs in that Ohio case, which again includes Bennett, have made a request to the Ohio court of appeals to have that reversed essentially. So instead of waiting for the appeal process, which God knows how long that could take, the NCAA certainly not any hurry to get that case heard on appeal, because they want these students to remain in eligible as long as possible. So while they're still waiting for that appeal, the student athletes have essentially gone

14:18to the court of appeals and said, hey, we want you to reverse this decision. We want to be eligible. Classes have started. The opportunity for us to sign professional contracts overseas are drying up as those seasons are getting underway. So we're in a position right now where this is doing a lot of damage to us waiting for something that if it doesn't happen, it's going to really hurt us in the long run. So we'll see what happens. It'll be a fascinating decision if the Ohio court of appeals does reverse this day. What does that mean for the federal lawsuit in Colorado? What does that mean for some of these other cases? So that's something that we're certainly keeping a close eye on for Bennett specifically. And then a player for St. John's named Bobbockar Sonet. He is played in the G League of Night with Eson Almanza. He also played professionally overseas. He was successfully granted a TRO in the state of New York to play for St. John's this year. That could be a good sign for Eson Almanza's ability to get eligible this season as well. We have not heard whether Almanza has been denied by the NCAA.

15:19We would know if he was approved so we don't know if he's been denied or if the NCAA just has not given a ruling yet on Almanza. But the idea, the fact that Sine suit and got a lawsuit makes me think he was denied initially by the NCAA. So I'm expecting Almanza to get denied. We don't know that for sure. It's possible it has already happened. But there is a path for him to potentially getting eligible this year as well. Andy, this is wild. We're in September now and there's potentially five Gonzaga players who might not be able to play. Yeah. Well, man, I use a word that we haven't, it might trigger some people after six years or so unprecedented. Like maybe we shouldn't use that word anymore. I think that word might need to be retired after COVID. Regardless, this seems wild. This seems like this isn't something that happens every day. I've got this question on social media a couple times when I've discussed Gonzaga or retweeted something, what are your articles or things like that. I've about, okay, what happens if all five of these players are not eligible and

16:22Gonzaga walks into the season with hardly any opportunities to replace this. Like, what do you think they're back up plan as if that happens? Yeah, it's a, it's a tricky situation. I think for starters, there's just, there's no deadline. Like, and I think that's like the idea of Gonzaga walking into the season without two, three, four, five of these players doesn't mean that they won't have some of these players a week from then, two weeks from then, a month from then. And I think that's the unfortunate reality that I think a lot of people are starting to kind of come to terms with of like, there isn't, there isn't an end in sight to this. I mean, we saw it last year with Charles Betty Acko getting eligible to play in the middle of the season for Alabama and then being denied like two weeks later and playing at what three or four games with the Crimson Tide. Like, that's probably what's going to happen this year. There's a real chance that Xavier only is eligible one game and not the next. And I hate that. And I think anybody who roots for college sports in general should probably dislike that. It's not fun. It's chaotic. It's frustrating for the players, frustrating for the fan experience, certainly frustrating

17:24for the coaches. But I think that part of Gonzaga's backup plan is to continue to fight to get these players eligible. Obviously, if, you know, if the international guys are denied, they will likely move on. Like I think Nathan D'Souza would eventually just return to France and not pursue the opportunity to play at Gonzaga, same with Eson Almanza. But the fifth year guys would probably keep trying to play as much as they possibly can. So that's kind of the backup plan for Gonzaga at this point. The nice thing is that this roster has 10 players on it who are eligible. And they're pretty good. Like, they still have a lot of talent. The point guard position is obviously the concern because you have Lee and Dent who are both fifth year guys. I see me with Dent Lee and Bennett who are both fifth year guys who are pursuing, you know, through the courts and then you have D'Souza who's the international. So there's a possibility all three of those guys are not eligible. My guess is D'Souza will get eligible. And then he will be either your third string point guard or your starting point guard. Like it truly could go either way.

18:25That's chaos. I mean, that's unbelievably just kind of cruel, frankly, to be doing that at this point in the off season. But yeah, that is a potential reality for Gonzaga. Now, a lot of people said, oh, if Gonzaga doesn't have all their guys, like, you know, are they they're going to finish third or fourth in the pack 12. I honestly still think this team is good enough to win. I think maybe second Utah State, a lot of their fans kind of are, oh, you know, we would win the pack 12. Well, if Gonzaga doesn't have any of their guys, Utah State doesn't have Down Hall who they recently landed as a fifth year senior as well. And Down Hall is a big part of like he makes that team a lot better. Utah State without Down Hall is still a better situation than Gonzaga without all five of their guys. I think that necessarily means Utah State is better than Gonzaga. It's awfully close. It's awfully close between those two teams. But I would still take Gonzaga over to the state. I would still take them over Boise and Colorado State and Oregon State and all the rest of the teams in the conference. I think they would get smoke in some of their non-conference games.

19:25I don't know that I like their odds against Michigan State, Purdue, Duke, UCLA, et cetera, without all five of these guys. But again, I it's hard for me to believe there's a reality where all five of those guys don't play the entire season. I think it's just going to change periodically, which again is arguably the worst situation we could be in. I want you to put on your lock down college basketball hat for a minute. You can keep on your Zag's hat though. You can want to still a Gonzaga flavor to this. So two hats at the moment. Is the Pac-12 in the worst spot for this type of situations because it's truly potentially impacting their best team, Gonzaga, heading into the basketball season when you look at maybe some of the other power conferences, mid-major conferences, teams that could be potentially seen as a multi-big league when it comes to the NCAA tournament. I think the Pac-12 certainly has that opportunity to be a multi-big league for the tournament. Do you think looking at it as a whole? Because I know you have done that more than I have, more than many have, as you're the host of Lockdown College basketball as well.

20:28It's a Pac-12 in a bad spot compared to most. That's a really interesting question, Christian. And one that I would have to ponder a little bit more. But I think there's a pretty strong argument that they are in, from a conference perspective, the worst spot, simply because, like you said, the program that matters the most to this conference is one of the teams in the biggest state of limbo currently with the NCAA. The biggest is a team I thought about because St. John's has some eligibility questions on their roster that are going to be determined by, you know, by the courts. And St. John's is very, very important to the big east, but Yukon's roster is set. And they're not any concern for Yukon right now. So that makes a huge difference. I think Villanova's roster, unless I'm not thinking of somebody, is also set at this point as well. I know St. Paul has some guys in limbo, but they don't matter as much to that conference. I think for the Pac-12, Gonzaga has five guys in limbo and Utah State has one. Those are two best teams in the league. I don't think San Diego State has anybody. I don't, I'm not sure anybody else even does at this point, but those six players alone

21:33makes a huge difference. You know, the SEC LSU's roster is complete chaos, but heck, they don't even want them in the conference anymore. Oklahoma added, I think, three or four players who are all potentially not going to be eligible. So they have a pretty vested interest in this as well. But I think those are the only two teams that have, like, made really significant moves. I know Arkansas has some international guys that are still waiting on eligibility and that would make a big difference for that conference as well. The Big 10 Oregon made an addition, Minnesota just made an addition. So they're having a few of them over there as well. But those conferences are big enough and have enough depth of talent that striking out. Like if LSU ends up really bad, that doesn't hurt the SEC all that much. If Gonzaga doesn't end up as good as usual, that hurts the Pac-12 a lot. And I think that that alone probably makes them the conference that has the most writing on how the NCAA handles these cases. That's going to be insane. And we definitely have to pay attention to over the next couple of weeks, months, years, hopefully not. Lots of stuff, pay attention to.

We might have to get the camel in here if we're going to drop on Wednesdays as a collect. That's a moment for sure. Hey, got some maybe more serious than super serious ones today because a lot of things happened over the weekend in the realm of college athletics and obviously the NFL starting today want to get your predictions on that. But we have to start with what happened in that Michigan game? Are you kidding me, Andy? That was insane. I have to ask you Zigg or Zag. That rigged. Who won that thing? Who won the Mandy? Well, okay, West Michigan won the game like that. Thank you. At this point, pretty much undeniably true. Was it rigged in the sense that the big 10 recognized that that was going to happen?

25:40Made a split second decision to change the call, give them an extra second, and then somehow made it so that they could complete a long pass for a touchdown. I don't necessarily think Barry D'Lepur a minute there. Yeah, it's hard. Like I mean, so many factors had to happen for that play to go as disastrously as it did. And again, if Michigan had just thrown it in complete pass on the next play, none of this would be talked about, but they didn't. They did. They did complete a pass. They did score a touchdown and they did it without with being granted a second of time that they shouldn't have had. And I think that's very clear at this point. I'm not sure what I mean, I follow the story right every article. I'm still not really sure like what the mysterious clock that showed up and it sounds like they're trying to put new protocols in. But yeah, what a huge challenge for the big 10 when they've already had, you know, all of the cheating scandals in the conference recently and now to have this happen and to seemingly rob a team like Western Michigan.

26:42I mean, just a really bad look for the sport on the first week of the season on the prime time game. I know that now the Mac is after which they made a huge mistake and basically saying, hey, this is fine. We were okay with the results. I don't know why on earth they released that statement to then back it up, like backtrack on and be like, no, we're actually are going to challenge this later like that. They kind of stepped on their own foot in that way. But I definitely feel for Western Michigan and I'm curious what's going to happen next. Yeah, I agree. Man, this is insane. It has obviously has group of six college football players and foundations as well. So it's something that us packed wealth hands need to pay attention to without question. How about this one? How about LSU potentially getting kicked out of the league? There's a talk about the SEC potentially wanting to, you know, expel LSU. It seems like that's starting to slow down a little bit, but they are planning on having some sort of hearing on Thursday. This is getting insane, right? LSU, are they just trying to be, are they just trying to bully this? Is this an LSU problem? Zigg or Zag? Is this an LSU problem or a Lane Kiffin problem?

27:44Oh, it is, it's an LSU problem. I mean, I think real way to, for the basketball program is attempting to bring in a player who played at St. John's left St. John's to go to the NBA draft, spent a year professionally. He was hurt, which is part of the reason he attempted to come back. But he left and like, that's a long standing rule of like, you go forgo your college basketball eligibility, or college athletics eligibility when you declare for the draft. So LSU is trying to do this in their two, you know, they're two money making sports. So it's not just a Lane Kiffin problem. The SEC is, is they got in their feelings about what Lane Kiffin said at half time of that Clemson game. And that's kind of why they're going after them and it makes them look sort of petty. I don't particularly agree with a lot of how LSU is handling this situation. But I also think that the SEC basically saying, we're going to kick you out because we don't like what you said. Doesn't make them look particularly strong. Either I talked about this on my show and some of the implications for for Gonzaga, especially with a game against LSU this, this season on basketball.

28:46So I think it's an LSU problem. I think that they, I mean, even on the women's basketball side, they've been questionable recruiting decisions recently. So it does seem to be an institutional thing going on there. But I don't, I don't agree with the SEC trying to kick them out. And obviously I don't, I don't think it's what happened. Um, I took this out. Okay, you're on a long trip. You, uh, you need snacks. It's I'm going gas station snack order on this one. I, I'm a, I'm a classic Coca Cola guy in a bottle. That's the only time I drink sugar soda. I usually drink zero sugar. But I do a classic Coke on the road trip, a Snickers bar and some beef jerky. That's my go to the gas station. I, I like it. I also do beef jerky. So I'm with you on that one. I usually do a yellow gatorade, which I know is odd, but that tends to be what I go

29:46after for the drink there or depending on the energy levels. I'll go for a red ball as well. Um, sugar free red balls to me tastes basically exactly the same as regular red balls. So we'll go for that or a yellow gatorade will go for beef jerky. Don't usually go for like chocolate or sweets as much. Uh, it sort of depends, um, usually the beef jerky, maybe like a power bar of some kind, something like that, um, or sunflower seeds, uh, like if it's a really long drive and I'm by myself sunflower seeds is the way to go as well. That's a good one. That's a good one. All right. Final one before we get out of here. NFL starts tonight. New England Patriots, poor Seattle sea hawks. Who do you got win in this one in a suit, low rematch? Yeah. I'm going with the sea hawks. I think they're getting a lot of, they're getting underrated. Um, I mean, I think that you'll obviously they won the Super Bowl last year. Um, but a lot of people have them like, there are a lot of people have their, their trendy pick is they're not going to make the playoffs. And it's like, they return, I think something like 17 or 18 starters from last year's team, like for a team that won the Super Bowl. And like, yes, I know, you know, Kenneth Walker not being back is, is obviously a huge loss for them in their back or their back court, their backfield.

30:49Um, but I still, I'm still going with them. I, I think it's funny that we're starting on a Wednesday. Sure, we're trying something new. Um, I saw a tweet that was like, at least if we're going to start on a Wednesday, let's make it the most boring Super Bowl rematch ever. And that's kind of how I feel. It wasn't a particularly exciting game. Um, hopefully tonight's game is a little bit juicier than, than what the Super Bowl was. But I'm going to, I'm going to rock with the sea ox again. Yeah, I'm going to Seattle as well. I think it's a close game, though. I think the Patriots kind of bounce back a little bit after a, not, yeah, not good Super Bowl. I'm excited to see Drake main AJ Brown together. I think that's pretty fun to watch for sure, but I'm taking Seattle with that game as well. All right, let's get down. I hear thank you so much.
