We get one team, minds the Houston Oilers. I'm not the Texans and I'm not the Titans. So I'm out of pisses early break.
Welcome back to hour two on a Wednesday, Steve Simple, Jake Swords and Bill Bush, on early break hour two, sponsored by our friends at pinnacle bank, member FDIC equal housing lenders thanks to Brian Marlford, of course, running PBAs always. We love Brian and his orange shoes. Equal housing lender. That's the key. Equal. Equal. That's what they do at pinnacle. Doug Gans, Jeff Pippet, equal. They're in charge of food bank too. They are. They're very very involved in the community as pinnacle bank. There are many, many no joke around on that. Yeah, they're heavily involved. And all you got to do is look over over right into the A market and see that big building. One of the best basketball venues in the country. They jumped into that was remarkable. How they got that thing going. They did. If pinnacle doesn't jump into that, there's there's there's still playing in the coliseum or the Bob one of the two probably the defiant. They may have went back to the coliseum. They may have
went back on the volleyball. They have taken over the Bob and playing at Lincoln East. It's our place. It's what could have happened if it wasn't for Marl. Really odd. Huskers are playing at Lincoln East now. Good parking. Not really. Hey, state championships used to be like that. State tournament would be played in high schools. Do you know that? Yes, that was not that long ago. That changed in the last 10 years of going to Lincoln high to watch basketball games. It was cool. Lower divisions. Yeah, we'd lower you know. Class. Yeah. Class C and lower. Yeah, absolutely. Covered those games as a young reporter. Thank you, Petticoke Bank for helping us. Yeah, I was still broke as I'm pinnacle. Yeah, four six four five six eight five. Call or text is always. We did hear from Daniel Horbys in the show. You were in the room for that. Sit Rob Arge. All for you in the room for this also Steve. Do you ask any questions to Rob Arge? Yes, you asked. I'd go right away to Sean's first question, which was about the first play in the the first play where the corner froze and they got a they Ohio got a 68 yard gain the response to that.
It's a great question. So we have a coverage bust on the first play a communication issue on the back half that we fixed after that snap, but you know, we allow the third of their yards almost on a single play on the first play of the game. That was a that was an eye opening experience for us. And it was a great opportunity to see how we respond. And so one thing I was pleased with is the guys came to the sideline, you know, settled back into what we do. But that was an unexpected event. And so we had changed a state moment and we had an opportunity to respond. It's very difficult. I mean, I don't know. I think that kind of play can put you on your heels for I mean, Bill, I say more than a quarter a half. I thought there are and I do think it put in a brass gun. It's heels a little bit. A play. The only thing you can say is that if you they just if a certain play breaks out and you just got beat up physically, you do have a it's like, hey, listen, we just made a critical air. And those are much easier to fix than getting the crap kicked out of you. Okay. That's the. This they didn't get the crap. You came back like
you were a boxer. So in between rounds, you sit down and they're sort of telling you they're giving you all this advice, right? You're like going, I don't know what you're saying because I'm getting the living crap kicked out of me. So that's hard to that. That's like, what are you going to fix here? I didn't know what to tell you. Everybody has a plan to get punched. Right. Well, they got punched by mistake. That one is easier to to be able to say, okay, we didn't get just abused. That's a good point. We made a mistake. And that is easily fixable. It's hard to say we made a mistake. If they hand the ball off 38 times in rush for 296 yards, you just say, just made a couple, you know, nuts and bills mistakes. No, no, we didn't need a problem. You got a good point. So because it didn't affect them that much. Yeah. And it only affects also the deal lines and I go and like, they're not going to like, what do we do? Right. Let me just the back in instead of huge air, fix it in a way we go. The second, I thought there's a good question too by somebody. What did he think of the general aggressiveness of the defense? Try to find that one. Oh, great. That was the question. I mean, that was
so you yelled at Jake about not having it. I didn't cut the audio here. Did you get clarity from the, did you get any clarity from the plane to secondary? What do you think about the plane to secondary? Cut that one. I was thinking. It's all mixed up in here. I'm sorry. Here's your my, Jeremiah Charles. Jeremiah Flash for his first game ever playing D.M. in college. I think he can really run. He plays at a high speed. For a kid that was playing receiver and catching fade balls a couple months ago to what he's doing now. I've been really pleased with his progress. I think you're going to see a continued role for him. Part of the cheetah. Yeah, he's far rushed package. I'm third down. We call it cheetah lion, whatever African cat you want to use. But that's normally how we get those guys on the field. How did you, how'd he earn that? Well, he won a lot of one-on-ones in camp. And he has an elite trait of being able to cover a lot of ground and short step and few steps. And so we think there's a unique trait there that we want to continue to lean in. Rough to a little bit of rough start on that. This insurance isn't one

I'm talking about Jeremiah Jones who's number three and he was playing receiver last year
another plan a defensive band. Jeremiah Charles is a core. I realized that I just go over was labeled here. I'm sorry about that. Jeremiah Jones, a Mike lockslee type situation. Yeah, we get that real quick. Yeah, Mike lock off track. Mike lockslee was talking about the next opponent. Okay, now what happened here? We're shifting gear. Yeah, we had to real quick. Okay, well, Mike locksies has press conference yesterday. The Maryland coach. Maryland head coach would just beat Howard 62 to zero. Nice win off the back. Now, it's a good Howard. If you look at the schedule, Maryland plays Yukon this weekend. That's not who Mike lockslee thinks they play apparently. Here is the starting off the press conference yesterday. And then use yesterday to get recovered to get some guys in here get healthy and to get a jumpstart on obviously this week's opponent, Toledo. Also, I want to also say that I'll be remiss for not again shouting out the student section. I think don't play Toledo. They play Yukon. Yeah, he pot like you. He
obviously this week's opponent Toledo. Also, I want to also say that I'll be remiss for not seeing Twitter. It said is someone going to tell him. So you're sitting there as the journalist of the year. And you know that he's just said the wrong team. Do you raise your hand or do you just let it go? Good question. I mean, good question. Because it could be first look at me. Are you trying to embarrass him? Right. Yeah, I'd lean towards not bringing it up. Or do you lean in with like that? Obviously coach, you know that you're playing Yukon. I don't think you can do that. Either. I don't just hope it goes away. I what do you do? Yeah, I don't know. I hope it's self correct. That's what you probably hope. Yeah, you hope is all of a sudden he says hold it. Right. And I say Toledo. That's not what I'm that. If he says Toledo, I'm sorry, I just blanked out there. Anyway, I know we're playing Yukon. You thought nothing of it. Right. But it can't
go on. I hope it's self correct. I just want they don't even play them this year. They don't play Toledo this season. Okay. Now it's different. They're not on the schedule. It's worse. They're not conferences is hampties. I have hampties. They'll be at 62 0 Yukon and Vottec. He really delegates a lot of parents. So there was no they don't play Toledo this year. Okay, now it's got a lot more issues. I thought me Toledo is next. No, they're not on the schedule. They don't play Toledo. That's gold. Because it doesn't even school. Yeah, that's gold. Is this is are people making a deal of this nationally or is it just what? Yeah, it'll get hit pretty good. It's when you don't play him at all. If all of a sudden, if all of a sudden, you know, if you if you talked on Sunday to rule and all of a sudden he goes, we get this. And then, you know, South Carolina is a bear. And you're saying, what? Right. Yeah. That's what he just said the wrong Mac team. Yeah. It'd be problematic. It would be. He could tell he's think he pauses for a second one more time. Sweet opponent Toledo.
They don't play him. I thought they played him in the following week. If that I would understand that they understand something. They play Virginia Tech next week. They play Yukon this week. There is no Toledo head coach Jason candle Yukon head coach Jason candle was that Toledo. Oh, so that maybe he's thinking about the head coach. Yeah. No, could you phrase that? Is that the confusion? Could you frame it up that way? Probably because they because they watch all of that. Toledo. Toledo film. Okay. Okay. Okay. All right. You can frame it. You still missed it. You still missed who you're playing. That's good. Yeah. But you would have been watching a lot of that film. Here's the way I if you're the AD or someone close to locks. Listen, he's been watching a lot of film. His brain has been working over time. He just slipped up. Oh, yeah. It's like, yeah, it's all you say. Yeah, I've screwed that one up. He's been working 20 watching Toledo and thinking that that's all is in my head. That's all we watch for all summer. It's probably okay. Could they spend a lot of time on this? This is this is a must win game because I don't
I think those probably struggle against botek. But this is a must this is a must win game for them. Yeah, they have to be because Yukon was what they won nine last year. Yes. And so it is a must win for Maryland. I've swayed towards it's not egregious. I've swayed that way quickly because of what Connor conscious. They're watching Toledo. I'll have a hard time getting off of egregious when you say they're wrong. When they don't play him at all. Because if there's an explanation, it rule would have said something. Then we know we got North Dakota coming up and this because out of order and they haven't been following week and stuff. And that wouldn't I wouldn't freak me out too much. It really would be okay. I should have had that but they don't play him. And I know there's a tie there to it. But I have a hard time saying that because you because you never said the word Toledo ever out loud and we're in preparation wise. So but at least there's a plausible there is a plausible explanation. I agree. Hmm. Hmm. Locks. Not locked in apparently.
It's really an October yet. It's really locked in. I mean, I don't know. The fade begins in October. He's already fading out after the first game apparently. It's September locks. Come on. He got locking the rest of the month. Locks. Lee fade. It's a real thing. We can ask Sean about more about orange when he comes. Yeah, Sean's got to be out at 8.20. Yeah, I see that. We got fitness. Yeah, fitness fitness fitness. Yeah, fitness. Well, we can ask him about Rob. Well, we'll we'll shout with him about that. We'll come back. Bill's thrills is next. I'm really breaking the ticket.
