Yeah, classic movie. The new America, the most rare. The juricle met with become jumping on court. The CYBER All you want to take is this all. But this is one you want to take a look. And here's the typical value of keeps consistently like Fr完全 and not only that I'm invit intermediary but this is the thing to get the coins on campus to try for other people to get to get into work with you guys and theite this is not why T's has introduced applications so far system and that's why they're willing to act in Spain. Ok, you know, I think I already called it SIPA I mean, you're in the game. It's 24, 24 going into the fourth quarter. You're probably thinking you're going to win. You got a great quarterback. And I was just so surprised to see JKS have two interceptions in the fourth quarter. It's not like him. I mean, he was playing a little banged up. But what was your analysis? Was he, did he try to do too much? Was it just a bad bounce off the hands? What was your analysis of him throwing two picks in the fourth quarter? Well, you know, as I was breaking it down, you know, I was thinking about, you know, the, uh, was the, uh, the botch snap, uh, quarterback center exchange, you know, JKS was checking
the, uh, the, the play call and, and the spinner didn't hear it and he snapped it on, on the, on the count. And unfortunately, uh, we fumbled that, uh, and, and he's giving, you see all the ball back right away. They scored, but then we come back and, and, and we're driving. And JKS puts one out and even the receiver's on the opposite side turns up, you know, and tips it gets it intercepted. At that point, I didn't think that was too much. The next throw is when I was a little more concerned with that. I thought he was trying to force it, trying to get it back shoulder in there. And unfortunately, the receiver, he ran on the same page and, and the result was, it was, uh, it was another turn of back to back. So that was disappointing. I mean, we had good momentum. Guys were playing really well, playing really hard. And, you know, I, I, I, I don't disagree with you. I thought when we had that ball early on in, uh, at the beginning of the fourth quarter, that we were going to go down and put some more points on the board. Unfortunately, we didn't. And Critos, uh, you, UCLA, were playing the wild the way they did.
Ron, this past Saturday was Tosh LaPoi's first game as a head coach. So how would you assess his performance with everything leading up to the game, the actual game, and then how he's handling his first losses, head coach? I'll tell you what, I've handled the whole week in preparation very nicely. In fact, um, the, the, the Friday night before we did an entire, I mean, excuse me. Yeah, we did an entire month, month, two days. We went through everything. We normally go through on a Friday and then on Saturday, he did a night practice. And he didn't want the new guys to experience it for the first time that it would be like. So he did everything he could to try and build that up so the guy's understood what it was going to be like. Uh, then Saturday, I thought he was his, his game presence and management was very good. You know, very active on the sideline for, for, for all three pages of the game, engaged with his coaches very, very nicely, checking in on this players constantly. Um, but well, I was probably most impressed was was the way we handled the post game. You know, he, he got up in front and took responsibility right up the bat, told the players
before I do anything guys, I'm going to take a look at the tape and see how I could have been better to help you guys. And I thought that struck a very good corner with his players. I really did. I was very proud of the way he handled itself. Listen, Cal played great. It was a really, really good game between two teams that might have good seasons. I mean, we might look back and say that this is a really, really good game and week one between two good teams with two good coaches who are on the rise. I want to get away from on the field and get off the field a little bit because in our intro, we play you say you got to get butts and seats. USC got knocked nationally for empty LA Coliseum. I wasn't empty. Saturday night in Berkeley. And I mean, you must have been absolutely over the moon with the return of the atmosphere. I guess the tough question would be, you know, how do you keep that going, but also just bask for a little bit in that atmosphere you guys created. What, how, how did that happen? How did you guys get that place so electric? Well, I think the first thing I'm seeing was, was bringing Tosh back and infusing the,
the community with, with the idea of hope, you know, that we can get better. We're going to get better. We are getting better. And those are the three things that we've got to do. You know, we got to bounce back play very well against here to, you know, get a W to be honest. You know, get that big win. And then we can carry the momentum. You know, we do play a smaller school the next week and Wagner. I don't want you to have far ahead of myself, but we do. And that's going to be important that we get a good showing a fan as far as that game is concerned. Build some more momentum up because then we've come, we follow that up with, with Clinton. So, you know, there's a chance for us to really, really pick it back up. Again, big, big, big week this week against Syracuse. So really big. Ron, you mentioned it the matchup against Syracuse this weekend. Now it's not as long as a flight that the Ford and Anarchives took down to Australia, but it's still a long distance for your team to travel. So how are you guys preparing these kids to play this Saturday against Syracuse? I like what Tasha has done. We started the week out early. You put a lot of emphasis in the early couple of days and now he's backing off a little bit because he knows that travel is coming and you want to make sure these guys are as fresh as can be.
So we're taking off tomorrow as a team. They'll give the Syracuse tomorrow night and then and then have an extra day of the good solid Friday preparation walk through day. I get them off their feet. You know, they'll have have an opportunity to take a little bit of break. Actually, I have some study time that they have to have as well, but I do like the way he's playing this week out. So I'm pretty excited to see how I got to handle it. Syracuse opened their season with a 66 to three win over new Hampshire quite the different opener than cows trading haymakers with UCLA. So Cal, maybe a little more battle tested going into this one. It's a 12 30 kickoff. You'll hear it on 8 10. Of course, KGO. Well, I still call KGO. Now they call kids. I'll just go with 8 10. Hey, Ron, we know you got a donor event. We only have a few minutes to squeeze in with you because Kevin Harlan's swinging about. But you said to us last week, you said we can talk Niners too. And so just getting off Cal for just a second and calling that a huge success for the community on Saturday night that everything was great and good luck against Syracuse.
On Saturday be great to get that win and talk to you next week with an ACC win under your belt. But just quickly, I mean, this this game for the Niners, there's so much excitement, you know, Australia, et cetera. I want to stay on Australia when you were well in the famous Bears teams that were so good. Did you guys ever have to go to Europe for anything? Yes, we were one of the first teams to play in London. We played in Wimbley. We played against the Cowboys. Actually, a pretty season game wasn't it wasn't a regular season yet. They hadn't gotten to that point yet. So we played that we played Dallas there. That was a big thrill. I played in Dublin. I played in Berlin, played in Berlin against the 49ers one year. That was that was a fun trip as well. So, you know, we did, but back then, you know, we were still doing it in the preseason. So, how big a deal do you think this is? I guess Stanford played rice down in Australia to in 2017. Nobody remembers that. But I mean, the 49ers went a week ahead. The Rams are landing in a few hours. Do you have an opinion on who had the right strategy?
You know, that was one thing that we studied when I was a head coach in Carolina was what's the best time? I mean, I've been on it or you've gone for the whole week. We went for just a Friday trip. But the one that we found to be probably the best was was leaving on a on a Wednesday night after practice. Get on the plane to fly in. We have what we call the recovery day. We bring in about 12 massage therapists. And the players go through everything from from hot and cold bath treatment to massage therapy to stretching. I just a lot of work out and then we come back and then on Friday, we get rolling because my whole goal with that regular Friday practice. I think that you can do as much as you can to create that that sense of things being normal. And to me, Friday, especially important practice is because you review everything. And if you guys are are flowing and getting things down, I think, you know, that's kind of the way to do it.
I do know that the philosophy that my understanding is that the Rams are using is what they want to do is they want to be there for a short period of time. And supposedly doesn't really affect you. But it's going to be easy because this is a lot longer than normal. I mean, this really is a much much longer flight. So I'm really going to be real curious to see how the Rams do do play. Ron last question for me is on my Gevins who was expected to make his 49ers debut tomorrow against the LA Rams done in Australia. Now of course you matched up against my Gevins a lot in the NFC South while you were coaching a Carolina Panthers. So what type of wide receiver do you think the 49ers are getting? They're getting a guy that can can can be an impact guy just because of his presence out on the field. They're going to have to pay attention to them because you know based on what I saw last year. Watching him play and and go chance to really appreciate it because I you know I still follow the Carolina Panthers and they had a big game against him and he played really well against him.
Unfortunately they didn't win. This guy still hasn't and I think this is a guy that can really make an impact immediately for the Niners. You know and I also think you know having having a new running mate in Christian Kirk helps them as well. I mean that I think they upgraded the wide receiver position. I really did. And finally Ron just ending so you're in New York now so you're staying out there I guess for Syracuse. Yeah yeah I'm actually actually truthfully I'm actually in the in the Uber headed to that's a phone right now can you fly out today yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah and then I get a slice of pizza there when you're there you're going to get a slice. You know I'm not in New York some Chicago style like that. Come on that's like Lasagna come on man. Well you know what is Chicago right I'm a bear once in a while. Both Golden and Chicago I love it. Well listen we're rooting for you guys to get that win this week.
You know I know the run game look pretty good I thought Adam Muhammad ran hard. I think JKS is going to be that guy I think he maybe was a little dinged up and maybe he's just want to just sharpen up the tackling a little bit right Ron. Yeah so I don't disagree you know you go back and look at it. He's actually we we needed to tackle better we really did and that's something I know that we did emphasize this week so I think we I expect our guys to play a little bit better but you know to your point I really do like the fact that we played against a team like you surely to open the year. Really good Gage on who we are who we can become I know that's something that these guys understand so this should be really the challenge for us coming up against Syracuse but like you said we we are battle tested now and I feel I feel pretty comfortable and confident that we can come out play very well again. Yeah and I imagine Syracuse probably I don't want to predict too much but it's not going to be like that raucous of an atmosphere 330 in the dome. I don't know but let's put it this way just go let JKS do his thing run the ball get some points on the board and play from ahead and get that win and come on back one on the ACC and then we'll talk to you next Wednesday have a great trip Ron.
Alright guys appreciate talk to you there he is Ron Rivera yeah I mean it would be really big because there was so much momentum with that big crowd at Memorial Stadium Bob Chessney's good man yeah Bob Chessney's good he had you see a fire off the ball they made the plays when they had to and like we were said Texas with Justin Allegri the Cal guys. Cal might look back on that as a really quality loss I mean like UCLA might have a really good season. I can't believe I'm saying yeah which is wild. We got to be San Diego State this weekend you got there's supposed to be a basketball school. Got to beat those Aztecs going on. Chessney greater than Mick right now buddy. Oh my God. Kevin Harlan greater than all next on these sports later. Facing a TCPA or SIPA demand or lawsuit. Trapman Amin LLP defends businesses in TCPA and SIPA suits across the state and across the nation.
