Royals POSTCAST: Kansas City Royals Crumble as Daniel Lynch EXPOSED in Brutal Loss to Blue Jays

1:05A series opener against the Blue Jays, these two teams saw each other very shortly ago. This was not a game that I was all that. I didn't believe that the Royals really stood much of a chance and I think that a lot of it was because of the guy they ran out of starting picture. And I think at this time of the season it's a tip of the cap to give Daniel Lynch starts to give him more opportunities to pitch. But this experiment has to end. Daniel Lynch is not a starter and cannot be a starter for this team. This is what you'll be talking about. What is that three games in a row where the Royals have just been smacked because of the first inning or at least been giving up a run in the first inning. Daniel Lynch today, you know, early on was not great against the Blue Jays.

2:05It is really hard to win a baseball game when it's zero zero in your batting in the bottom of the first inning. And I think that it is exponentially harder to win a baseball game when you're down for nothing before the doughnut is even off the bat of Carter Jensen. I think that it was a. I don't think that it was ever a serious push for Daniel Lynch to become a starter in 2027. If he would have become a starter in 2027. Hey, that's a great thing. I remember hearing, you know, listen to the radio broadcast a couple of weeks ago in Steve Stewart and Jake and Eisenberg were on the call and they were talking about, you know, they're wanting to build Daniel Lynch up to be a starter. This is kind of a long term play for them. And I could not help but think what an absolute disaster that would end up being if Daniel Lynch actually ended up being a starter in 2027. There's a role that he has and it is that in it is as a really good left in a bullpen arm.

3:05There's no reason for him to be starting games unless it's out of pure necessity. And at this point, you know, Lucas Braun, the feedback on him from Omaha has not been generally positive from the people that I have talked to. I don't think that they are expecting him to chase the moon at all. But I think he gives them a better opportunity than Daniel Lynch and he absolutely deserves more of a shot than Daniel Lynch does. I cannot for the life of me. I hate nothing more than this back to back of Lynch and then Lugo. Thank God they get Michael Walker before it. I'm not sure if you've heard as a game watcher as a Royals fan to really enjoy watching back to back starts from Daniel Lynch and Seth Lugo. He was not bad after the first inning tonight, you know, looking at his numbers after the first inning. He wasn't terrible. But it was just the fact that he was bad in the first inning for yet another game.

4:09It happened to him in the Cleveland series. You know, he was heavy on the sink or change up usage tonight. He's kind of abandoning his slider, which tonight was not a good pitch for him. Or I guess, you know, it wasn't a terrible pitch for him, but the blue jays loaded it the lineup with a lot of right handed hitters and it's a big reason why they, you know, blitzed him early. You know, his slider is probably I think his best pitch, especially against lefty lefty, but he didn't have that nearly through 13 pitches against lefties today. This was a lineup that would have posed an issue because he's kind of the opposite of John Schreiber in terms of the fact that he just can't get right. He's out. He does not strike out any right handed batters because he doesn't rule them has changed up is mediocre at best. His foreseemer is not hard. He's a slider guy and when you don't it is his role as a bullpen guy is coming in and facing lefties. He has a starter is being a guy that has to face the entire lineup, but I just don't see him ever in his entire career, you know, whether it's with the royals or without the royals five years from now being able to start games at an effective level because he does not have the stuff to get right anders out.

5:22And tonight he was heavy on the fastball changeup. That's a really tough combination for a picture to have success with when that's what you're relying on 100% of the time. He threw a couple of curve balls. He actually threw you know 10 curve balls against right handed batter. So at least tried to mix that in, but none of them were that great. They were all strikes, but it wasn't like he was getting it over and getting good pitches with them. They were all hit fairly hard. I just don't think that there is anything of substance there with Daniel and she did a super frustrating watching him start tonight. He just kind of let the royals out to drive four runs in the first inning. The royals were basically facing a bullpen game with what James and Tyrone provided for the blue jays. The royals aren't going to win those games and tonight was just another example of how far the royals are away. How many millions of dollars the royals are away from this being a legitimate contender. Daniel Lynch cannot start games next season for the royals. Daniel Lynch cannot be relied on to be a long goal reliever.

6:25This lineup still needs an upgrade and I'm not going to excuse the lineup whatsoever tonight because guess what? They were bad again and I'll break down why they continue to struggle when we come back here on the royals postcast. 7:31Shop back to school at Amazon and spend less on your kids. The royals offense was a big letdown tonight. James and Tyone is not a great picture and he threw very limited reps tonight. It was the bullpen for the blue jays that really shut the royals down and yet another drought for the royals and kind of a call back to what was a big struggle early in the season. Time to reveal where the game was once or lost. It's the turning point. You know looking at what the blue jays bullpen provided after just two James and Tyone innings they only gave up one hit until the eighth inning when the royals started to add a little bit. And they got of any pass when Tito homerun they threaten a little bit thanks to a Carter gents and double. But from any three until any number eight the royals had a single hit. I talked early in the season and I think it was right before the red series I think it was the series against Texas.

8:35The royals this season are really good at hitting for one inning at a time. They have really struggled this season that putting multiple rallies together in a single game. It has played them all season long. I think one of the biggest playing one of the biggest things you can blame it on is the lack of depth in the lineup. They just don't have enough guys. You know tonight they run out the lineup that was pretty. I thought it was okay by their standards. You still have Nick lofted in the lineup. You still have Michael mass in lineup. Those are two guys that have been sold this year for the royals. You still have two outs in the eight nine hole. You cannot next year run back with Isaac Collins and Kyle is bell in the outfield. Neither of them can be in the starting lineup on opening day. They both are in over three performances tonight. My biggest critique of the royals is the lack of depth in lineup. Salvador Perez and the past Latino are great five six hole hitters. They are really bad when they are things get really dark really early when you rely on them to be your three and four hole hitters respectively.

9:38I think that tonight the royals just didn't have very many opportunities to threaten because they just were not seeing it very well. It does suck because the royals are a very split heavy team. They are a very platoon heavy team where their lefties don't hit lefties well their righties rarely hit righties well. Anybody on the team really doesn't hit lefties well, but tonight in bulk action the blue jays turned to multiple left handers. Including one last week that the royals blitz pretty good and Brendan little tonight. They just didn't do anything against the array of left handers and then Michael or Ensen just kind of shoved it up and. That was that the royals were out of it by that time. I don't think that Michael or Ensen's outing changed anything. It just is super frustrating to see what the royals have turned into offensively when they have pretty much everybody back except for Michael Garcia. This lineup tonight you get a two hit performance out of Salvador Perez, Bobby with junior homers, but until the eighth inning Carter Jensen was over three with three strikeout.

10:40Sorry, over three with two strikeouts. Bobby with junior was okay tonight had a home run early. It's good to see him getting back into the power, but we're just not seeing the two three four hit games that we've seen from him when we've needed to see that from him. And they're absolutely going to need that from next year. They need him to play at the MVP level that he played at two years ago. They did not get a great game out of Jack gag. I thought that he had a couple of you know hard hit balls on the screws, but time for the royals. They just didn't really have much going. Many pass Latinos over until the ninth. They just it is frustrating because they are all kind of slumping at the right at the same time. But man, they just have to be better. They have to be more consistent. And that's my biggest issue with this team going into 2000 and 27 is there are a lot of really streaky hitters in the lineup, including the guy that we sung the praises of last night being Carter Jensen. We were super high on Carter Jensen. The fact of the matter is he's one of the streaky is hitters and baseball. Jack gag Leon runs pretty hot and really he runs really hot and pretty cold sometimes.

11:44Vity Pass, Quintino is probably the second most streaky hitter on the team. Salvador Perez is a guy that really until it heats up does not know how to hit. And then the bottom of the lineup like Isaac Collins and Kyle Osbell. Every once in a while they'll put together a two hit performance, but they're not moving the needle for you at all. They've got to add more consistency to this lineup. There's a ton of guys that I would target. I think that there are it's a really good class of free agents in the outfield that I think the royals could go out there and make a splash. But at the end of the day, they just need more consistency from the big baths in the middle of this lineup. And today this series this week, they haven't gotten there. They've gotten really good performances out of Carter Jensen and a solid performance at a jack cackley own last night. Outside of that, this was lineup is leaving a lot to be desired. And you know, my biggest hope with this team was that they'll be able to end the season on a hot stretch and gather some momentum going into 2027. Whether they made, you know, whether they won 75 games or 65 games really didn't matter all that much to me as long as they ended the season playing better baseball.

12:50You know, for the last for August, they were playing really well, but to start September, they've been just downright mature. So, they've been awful. And I hope that they can at least put together a couple more series where they, you know, thump some guys, you know, you think back to last year when they had that big game on a Friday night against these blue jays where I think they put up what 21 22 runs. Like I hope that they have one of those performances in them here or at least a series where they can score some runs and get some consistent pitching like they need a series to line up and actually had it in the last series where they had no a Cameron Randy Dobnak and Michael Walker they weren't able to win the series, but. Like the royals I don't have much faith in them winning a single start from either Seth Lugo or Daniel Lynch the rest of the way that's not to say they won't it's just to say I don't have confidence in those guys when they take them out. They need Michael Walker Randy Dobnak and Noah Cameron to pitch much better down the stretch to give them some better vibes and a better opportunity to win games down the stretch because it is imperative that this team ends the season playing better baseball.

13:55It was really fun for a while when they, you know, one 14 of 16 and they were feeling like the hottest team in baseball. That was against bad competition they're going to be playing some decent teams down the stretch they're going to need to up their play a little bit tonight was a step in the wrong direction for the royals this week has been a step in the wrong direction for the royals thinking back to that game on Sunday against the Cleveland Guardians in which the royals got absolutely embarrassed against the guard dogs, but tonight the royals just did not perform well in any aspect of the game. It is like I said, it is darn near impossible to win a baseball game when you're trailing for to nothing before the bat rack is even taken. Tonight I think is on Daniel Lynch more than anybody, but the lineup just left so much out on the plate against a pretty mediocre blue jays bullpen and I'd like to see them continue to push and hopefully make some strides here down the stretch with the royals lose tonight. Tomorrow I'm you know back home as you can see hopefully the connection was good. I understand that sometimes it can be a little shaky here when I'm in my hometown, which is kind of the middle of nowhere, but tomorrow have a family commitment so will not be able to do the show.

15:03But hopefully Seth Lugo can give the royals a much better start than last time out and hopefully the bats can put together some quality quality a B's and it's mac sure.
