Seahawks Face Offseason Challenges

On March 18th, the Seattle Sea Hawks rode high after winning Super Bowl 60 last season

against the New England Patriots thanks to a stacked roster built by General Manager John Schneider.

But the 2026 offseason hit hard with salary cap realities as they lost five key free agents,

including four who made big plays in the world. Championship Game 1, even earning MVP honors.

To soften the blow, Schneider resigned several standouts like wide receiver Rashid Shaheed

to a three-year deal worth $51 million. Cornerback Josh Joe for three years in $24 million,

and others including linebackers and specialists. They also added running back Emmanuel Wilson

on a one-year pact worth $2.1 million, plus a safety and defensive back to bolster depth.

Fans and teammates felt the sting of departures like running back Kenneth Walker.

The third to Kansas City and outside linebacker Boyet Mayfay, Doe, Cincinnati, both landing big three-year

contracts around $43 million and $60 million respectively. Safety, Nick Mnwari captured the mood

with the somber social media post, while linebacker Ernest Jones IV stayed positive, saying,

the guys, earn their paydays and it's time to trust the team. Big questions linger now, especially

a running back where Zach Sharbanay returns from injury, but newcomer Wilson faces tall orders

to match walkers. Production, the defense, which topped a league and points allowed, loses tackle

leaders and turnover creators in the secondary and front seven, potentially, exposing past defense

weaknesses ranked 10th last year. And quarterback Sam Donald, fresh off a career revival,

heads into age 29 with a new coordinator, could regression derail a repeat. With free agency

settled, eyes turned to the April draft for young talent to rebuild that championship core,

setting the stage for whether Seattle can. Defend its title or face a drop-off, come fall.
