Seahawks Lock in Smith-Njigba, Witherspoon

On March 21st, the Seattle Seahawks have picked up the fifth-year options on wide receiver

Jackson Smith and Jigba and cornerback Devon Witherspoon.

That secure Smith and Jigba for $23,852,000 fully guaranteed in 2027 while Witherspoon

gets $21,161,000.

Both were first-round picks in 2023, with Witherspoon going fifth overall from Illinois

and Smith and Jigba 20th from Ohio State.

Earlier this week, the move keeps them locked in through that extra year, giving General

Manager John Schneider more time to plan long-term.

Extensions.

Fans and analysts see this as a smart bet on the young core after their big roles in last

season's Super Bowl push.

Smith and Jigba broke out with nearly 1,800 yards receiving in double-digit touchdowns,

staying clutch in the playoffs, too.

Witherspoon anchored the secondary alongside tackles, passes defended, and key stops in

postseason games.

Meanwhile, the front-office had already signaled this approach, focusing on homegrown talent.

But the running back spot looks shaky now.

With Kenneth Walker gone, Zack Sharbenay sidelined by a torn ACL and limited production from

others, so far, Seattle will likely target the draft or free agency to rebuild that

death and keep the momentum going.
