Seahawks Lose Safety Coby Bryant to Bears

On March 9th, Seattle Seahawks fans got some tough news and free agency as safety.

Kobe Bryant agreed to terms with the Chicago Bears.

Under head coach Mike McDonald, Bryant transformed from a slot corner into a top free agent,

taking over a starting safety spot midway through the 2024 season after being benched the year before.

Earlier this week, reports confirmed the move, with Bryant leaving after four strong seasons in Seattle,

that included seven interceptions and seven forced fumbles.

McDonald's scheme often uses three safeties, and he quickly elevated Bryant when the opportunity arose,

especially after drafting Devon Wittispoon in 2023.

The lost things for the Seahawks, who also saw running back Kenneth Walker to part early in free agency.

Bryant's production will be hard to match right away, though Rookie Tyle Cotta could step in short term,

and the team might target the 2026.

Meanwhile, the Bears landed Bryant on a deal worth up to $40 million over three seasons,

positioning him to keep disrupting quarterbacks in.
