Your calls. Oh, what? Hello? It's time for cheers. Oh, yeah. Cheers. Oh, no! And beer. Rammer! Dirty work on a Friday afternoon. Adam Copeland, Deepop, Danny Dunn. We are enjoying the fruits of the nighter's labor after the 27 to 7 victory over the Rams. And I do think it says more about the 49ers than it does about the Rams. How could it not? I mean, I know there's a lot of hype with the Rams right now, but it's all about the Niners. The way they were able to go into Australia, and they weren't, you know, the team that was chosen, the NFL wanted the Rams to go, and then the Rams wrote in the 49ers that come in and punch them in the mouth. No, it's all about the Niners today. Anyway, came beers, and I'm going to call in a text, 415, 808, 5627. Let's go to Brad, who says he's got one cheer about this game. Just one. Let's go to Brad.
Brad, you're on the sports leader. What's up? What's up, Cokes? What's up, Pops? What's up? What's up, Brad? I called in a few months back. I told you guys about my fitness journey that I've been working out with. Yeah, bro. Yeah. What's up, Brad? How you been, dude? How's the journey going, Brad? I'm down 113 pounds. Yeah, hi, guys. I'm all right, dude. I'm all right. I've dropped from 32 to 208 pounds since the mid-year or so. Nice. Good work, man. I'm sitting in the sauna right now. My gym puffing on my vape while the no one's watching me. That's phenomenal. Anyway, it sounds incredible. You got to, you got to tell them. Yeah, I know, right? Keep the towel on. Okay. Tell them on. One year, opening drive. Yeah. Beautiful drive down the field. Mike Evans, third down conversion. Mike Evans, third down conversion. Mike Evans, third down conversion. Then we get into the bolt that the red zone. No shots to Mike Evans. That was like, so what I was like, I feel like I'm on the ground. I feel like I'm on the ground. Is it like that? It's like, I feel like I'm on the ground.
I feel like I'm on the ground. I feel like I'm on the ground. And then we went back to the middle. We brought him here. We got to, like, and then we went back to him later in the game. Obviously, the beautiful catching, but it in the end zone. So I was just like, okay, they're going to go to Mike Evans right here in the, for whatever reason. I'm just saying this shows not to do that. Like sheers all around. It was so awesome to see both. Warner and Green, my back out there doing their thing. Both to lift amazing. Sort of all the other fellas and Kittles. to check off the rest, but it's just cool to see all the boys out there. And then a couple easy drops, one by Divo, one by McCaffrey. That could have been picked, but luckily it wasn't. And then a little bit of an undertone ball to Mike Evans on that flag and keg. But he could have caught, but it was a little bit under thrown. Yeah, just the phenomenal win through the Rams. All their hype is I'm so ready for for number six this year. And just hope the boys can stay healthy and keep it rolling, man. And yeah, go Niners. Appreciate the call, Brad. Thanks so much. By the way, if the year is going to be Niners win by three scores, like I frequently. And it's like, man, they should have gone on that one drive to that receiver instead.
Because they only end up with a field goal. I think is the opening right right. He's talking about, I'm good with that. I mean, again, we're like looking for cheers now. Exactly. I mean, the biggest and none of it is on usually a jury has something to do with like the coaching side of things or a bad play by like I will say on the. Um, what was the touch down or the was it the Pukka Nakua big run where Drake Greenland tried to like jump the route right. And then was it Jiger Brown. I believe so. Was the other defender there. And that was that was it was a big game. It was the biggest game of the game for the Rams. And it was kind of just blown tackling, mistackling on that. Yeah, but Pukka Nakua is a guy that alludes, you know, defenders. And I thought it was a pretty good damn good play by him. There was. That's probably their best to play. I'm a play of the game. It was. That's it. And I scored in four plays. I'm looking for something to give you. You know what? No, honestly, that was as good of a week one performance. I've seen for the 49ers in a long time probably since 2023, well, they went down to Pittsburgh and brought pretty through two touchdown passes to Brandon Ayuk that were perfect times.
And then in Christian McCaffery, that long touchdown run reminiscent of Adrian Peterson along the silent stiff arm and a guy. So yeah, I would say that's the best week one performance I've seen from the 90s since their Super Bowl run of 2023. 707 on the Golden State Lumber in showroom Texlan says, uh, nighters got me feeling nice. Oh, are we, are we getting those again? Because I know last year was like a sponsored thing from Groot. I don't know. I don't know. I'm not sure. I'm not sure if he's going to keep doing them. I haven't seen one yet, but it's only usually does it after a full week of games. Yeah. He'll identify a position or a coach or something like that. Right. Dude, here's a name on the, uh, on the phone lines here. It just makes me smile. Oh, yeah. This is the guy I wanted to hear from. It's my boy Edgar. Come on. Oh, man. Come on now. Come on now. Oh, man. Standing here. Look like the greatest coach in the league yesterday came out there. Oh, pretty. I told you, pretty smart guy. I told you, you did. You did. You told us. You did. You told us. We'll go as far as party takers. Man, my boy. Do a four. Four. Four. Four. Four. Four. Four.
Four. Four. Four. Four. Four. Four. Four. Well, you know, looking up the game. Um, everything. It wasn't the last Keith ó, if I shared my boy losing, he was blocking Uh. God, I was fighting. My boy threw up 40 50 yard of, for the first time. I'm like, oh my day. Come on now. Look. That was doubt up. That was doubt up. Then Stryb οι gone down. Kind of changed the office a little bit. But man and boys look sharp. David, they were ready to go think like a cavalry. Uh, bolstiah was a, like Bolse. was on display. They picked us to go to Australia. Here we go. And he looked like the best he NFL picked the right team to go to Rams, the jet lag. They looked like they were tired. I don't know if they was tricking on the plane, but whatever happened with them, man, we was going to beat him right. Godless man, but pretty, pretty is that guy. Pretty is that guy. Man, good stuff. Yeah, that's great, man. I appreciate the call. Do you? Thanks
so much. I was something you didn't you should cut them saying, he's a man. He's that man. Yeah, he's hyped on party. And I think there's reason to be hyped on pretty. I mean, you look great yesterday. You look fantastic. And just to the note that through 50 career NFL games, rock party has now the highest completion percentage of any player in NFL history. Come on now. Come on now. Come on now. Now you know what's ironic is, you think? Yeah. This actually kind of is ironic. Okay. Not like that, which is just a bunch of song, which is just a bunch of inconveniences. It is rain on your wedding days. Not ironic. It's just like, you shouldn't have got married in November. Man, you should have waited till June. What do you do? November. What do you do? I'm on a land. Yeah. That's not it. You don't know. You're in Seattle. It's not ironic. 10,000 spoons. What all you need is a knife. It's like me and the man in your dreams. Everything is beautiful. Why? That's the guy. It's a major convenience. Yeah. Dude, it's just a bummer. You know what I mean? But it's not. Anyway, this is kind of ironic. Yeah. Broccoli highest completion percentage through 50 career games, five zero, then any player in NFL history. Number two is Joe burrow. Good. And by the way, brock, pretty
in those 50 games, if you look at his numbers next to burrow, they're almost identical. Yeah. They're like off by like five or six touchdowns and interceptions. Burrows a little bit better. And I think he's got like, I don't know, 200 to 300 more passing yards in that span, which is pretty incredible through 50 career games. Number three on the list in completion percentage through 50 career games. Jimmy Garoppola. What? Isn't that wild? Yeah. He was like 67 and something percent. That is surprising. Brocks like 0.1 percent higher than Joe burrow. Burrows like the accurate dude. And Joe burrow was obviously, you know, first overall and Brock, pretty last day of the draft. That's pretty incredible. 808 came to us and everybody called Mike and Gilray. Dr. Don I say you fell off the line. We'll get to your call and we come on back. When we get back, we'll talk more about this offense. Can it become Brock, party's team in terms of like we saw the balance in the run game yesterday. I don't want to say this becomes a passing team entirely. I mean, they passed a bunch early. They also ran at 30 times yesterday. That's what Kyle's aiming to do. But if you can diversify the backfield, what level can Brock, party take this team to? Are you with Edgar in New Jersey?
Come on. Go as far as Brock will take a. Hey, now he's done now. Talk more about that and more your calls next 30. We're going to Friday on these sports. 30. That got make good stuff. You found dirty work with Adam Copeland and Derek Papa, where no job is too dirty on KNBR, the sports leader. 30 work on a Friday. Adam Copeland, Deepop Danny done hanging out with the United, was going to win 27 to seven over the LA Rams. Everybody's feeling good today. Now somebody did check in on the Golden State Lumber and showroom text on it 808 KNBR and said they did have one little concern. They said, should we be worried? I'm trying to find the exact test. About any pinierumist in that field goal at the end from my fantasy team. Yes. Did you miss? Did you have them too? I did. Yeah. We were talking about you didn't even tell me you had them also. I haven't been a league. I know. First of all, longest field goal he's ever hit outdoors. 56. Yeah. 52. Come on. That should have been cake. Come on. Hit the upright, right? Yes. Yeah. It's all good. You're up 27. I was at 11 points with Eddie.
I had 16 points from a kicker. What have been nice? What have been nice? That's some black magic stuff, dude. I got four points from staff for yesterday. So yeah, I could have used that a little. Yeah. Number two, QB and fantasy last year. As was Drake May. Yeah. That's a tough deal. Not good. What do you go last year? 46 touchdowns eight picks. I think it was 47. I don't know the amount of interceptions, but yeah, well over 4,000 yards. He was fantastic here ago. But yeah, not good. Yes. I can't find the texture, but a couple of people have texted it in 415 says this and somebody else did ask is in terms of some of the if you're going to have one nitpick sort of cheer about this game. Yes. Is there any reason to be a bit concerned about the run defense? Like they were running at the rounds were to a pretty good clip. 72 yards. I think in the first half. Yeah, it was pretty damn good yesterday. And again, they had to abandon it after the third quarter concerned. No. Like is it something to watch? Like again, they still and there's still there's still
multiple things to still watch. I'm going to nitpick with it like Spongebob. It's nitpicking, isn't it? Yes. Spinal tab. Like they didn't get a sack in the run game. That's nitpicking, isn't it? It is a little bit, but they still didn't get a sack. Nice. And they didn't run, they didn't stop the run effectively all that much in the first half. And then the Rams ran at six of the 12 plays to get down to the goal line. And then they didn't effectively run it down there. Yeah, but like pick your poison. Like I think also was we're going to we're going to really defend the pass here if they kill us with the run so be it, but let's see what they do when they get to third and long. Fair enough. So I'm not going to kill them for that. Let's see what happens with the pass rush. Let's see what happens when they play a team. Obviously they have a ton of pass rushers on the Rams, but let's see what happens when they have a pass rush that's really getting after Brock Purti there and Brock look great, moving in the pocket, not letting, you know, Miles Garrett, a Byron young get to him. So there's still some question marks obviously, but yesterday you got to come away thinking the Niners look pretty damn good. So I'm not going to the cheers get to me. There's one cheer. It's the injuries to the John Strabling and Jake Ton just besides that.
No, I was really impressed. No, I don't think I heard this part of Kyle's post game pressure on Tungus, but I saw Grant Cohen tweeted, I believe that they asked about the knee. Yes. I think they thought they said it was an MCL. Did he set out there? I did not see that. Yeah, I'll find that tweet exactly. I thought he said it was not good, maybe, but I again, I they're not going to know much of anything to like. I watch Kyle's press comments. I don't remember him mentioning MCL. Sometimes the entirety of it is not on whatever's being broadcast. And so sometimes the beat writers will tweet things out that were said that maybe weren't. It was like after because they won't carry necessarily all of it, but I'm not certain. Don't quote me on that yet. Okay, because he did he was asked specifically about we had the I have scribbling and he said, I think everybody's fear Kevin France in Texas and he said, dude, that looks like a kill. Yeah. And at first I was going to say, why do you say that? Then I was like, oh, for any tours of kill. Yeah. That's why we got Brian Bocaugh probably ended up with that. Well, you have you have Danny actually has the update from Shanahan, not update, but post game comments on Todd just from Kyle. Okay. We go. It wasn't good. I mean, it's not an ACL. It's
MCL, I believe, but there's some issues with it that we got to we got to see how it is. There's a little more information to it, but we don't know yet. Yeah. So that's sometimes what will be what'll happen is if you watch the entirety of the press around like the nighters YouTube channel or whatever they're streaming live, what it happens, you'll get the entire press conference. A lot of times we'll just put out even for us on post game on the network post game or on NBC sports is just the beginning or the initial stuff. And then the B-Rider sometimes will be they're asking more questions. Okay. And they'll tweet that info out. So we're not good. He said MCL not good. They did say about stripling. They didn't think it was in a kill. A kill. He's in tech. They said they believe the Achilles isn't attacked. And that's a good thing because they can usually check that like that's a good gauge. If a guy goes into the blue tent and you're fearing Achilles, if they go pretty quickly out of the blue tent just back to the locker room, the kill is one where you can sort of test it and feel if it's intact. Whereas like a knee injury, a lot of times they're like we they're trying to do some tests on it, evaluations on it. Now what was interesting is scribbling went into the blue tent. Yeah. Early here in the game with an apparent
ankle injury, I think comes back and goes non-contact. Yeah. So I don't know any and then he walked off or not really walked off. He was helped off with no pressure put on his his left ankle or whatever it was. We'll see what happens here, but I do remember a year ago. I think it could be concerned. It can be I remember a year ago week three when Nick Bozator was ACL initially Kyle said everybody we don't believe it's an ACL sure enough it was. So that's why I said I'm not so I'm still fearing potentially maybe not a kill ease, but like they got to do some imaging who knows if it's any this is anything else. I'm kind of waiting for an update. I would expect him to miss time. Oh yeah. I would think so with the way that looked. Yes. It sounds like tongue is could be that could be a tongue. Yes. But yes, regardless, the 49ers look pretty damn good yesterday. Let's go to Mike and Killroy Mike is in Killroy. What up dude? You're on these sports leaders. Hey, what's up guys? I think you're taking my call. I love your guys show. Appreciate you for us. I mean, what yeah, well, the idea to say is I mean, I'm on cloud 49 today and like nothing right now could really just tear me down. And then also hearing about Shanahan Shionn
other extension. I mean, I'm not surprised. We got to have that guy in the building. I don't see anyone else taking his job. I he should never fear his job. He's brought nothing but greatness man to this organization. What these guys are doing this whole brotherhood trip. It's something I remind you of what the men's were when you know, the loft was there. And I love it. I love exactly what's going on with these buyers. Man, they fight for each other. They bleed with each other. I mean, it's nothing but greatness coming out of that building and on that field. No, I appreciate the call, Mike. Thanks so much. That's why I like when they had a down year a couple years ago when six and 11 and Mike Florio, for whatever reason was like, you know what, Kyle Shanahan? He needs a breath of fresh air. He needs to leave the 49ers get traded. The Chicago Bears or something. And I'm like, why? Why? Because the Bears want him because Kyle had one losing season. He's had multiple, obviously, but just because he has a six and 11 season, they should move on from him. Kyle Shanahan. I think it's a top three coach in the league. And you could give it to Andy Reed or Sean Payton because they've won Super Bowls. And of course, Mike McDonnell
Dan Stillgoynex. He's been paid in like he took time away and he he still got, I mean, in two years, he went back to us to an, uh, an AFT champion. Exactly. So I still think Kyle came that was it wasn't even see it. Actually, I didn't even know the fog. Yeah, well, it was a snow. Oh, it was a snow. It was like, it was like, easy on the screen. Of course. I would, I mean, Kyle's such a damn good coach, man. And he knows the right guys are bringing us far as a defensive coordinator. And we'll see what the season goes with with him. Morris, but I'm I'm pretty confident he knows what to do, man. So I can't stand it happens every now and then, but I can't stand with 49er fans. Break up. I wish we had different coach than Kyle Shanahan. Be lucky. Be grateful to you of Kyle Shanahan. Real quick, just another note on on Matt Stafford's piss poor day. Um, the seven points for the Rams in that game were the fewest in a game started by Matt Stafford since his final season with the Lions. Seven points, a fewest that Matt Stafford has scored in a game as a starting quarterback since his last season with the Lions. He'd never had a game that poor with the Rams. So it's the worst game he's ever had scoring wise with the Rams.
He lost 20 to nothing to the Panthers in week 11 in his final season with the Lions and 47 to 7 to the bucks in week 16, but he only played one series because of an injury. I remember that. Yeah. So this is the worst game Matt Stafford has ever had in terms of scoring offense as a Ram. Yeah, and almost like a pullout stuck into that. I know, just a note. No, I know, but I think like, we've seen great quarterbacks come in and go through the motions week one. I remember a couple years in a row, Aaron Rogers, the Packers with like crap week one and they turned it on. So we'll see what this offense looks like week two against the Giants, but yeah, bottom line is the 49ers and with Dante, when it was talking about if they stay healthy, they could be a suitable team challenging the Rams. It looked like it looked like that yesterday. All right, let's go to a doctor Don in Benesia. What's up doc? You're on these sports leaders. Hey, Adam. Hey Adam and Derek. Hello, you know, I've been living with food while food in our land. Not only since 1957 and Julie 60s. That's when you know, feeling that difference was the key then still for me and the keys and that played defensive back in Australia. I
called it the good on football league and I in Melbourne and particularly in other states like let's do, but I remember in June, like Tom just heard in June itself, the legal collateral agreement. I had mine partially left. Just me, you know, over a month and a half, I said, to get back and then the last, you know, of the ideas that what I the only year that I have is not being I lived in Melbourne and myself else for 20 years, followed, did I in football or American football and I felt the ball. Mrs. Sovani that I had to form my own slight football team eventually entered the league in Melbourne and we got wiped out each of the years that I was coached. But nonetheless, you know, this is something I miss as a year. I miss being at the know that cricket ground, the MCG, over 100,000 people. I really, really felt bad that I was not there. Appreciate the call, Dr. Don dude, just loves football. He might love ball more than John Harbaugh did. He might do it. Dude went to live in Australia for years,
but in my defense, it's 57. He said, so he played and followed a gridiron football league, which is like 16 years or something. It's education might still exist or there's some form of it still exists. He's like, then I couldn't get ball anymore. So I started my own flag football team. There you go, man. Yeah, dude, I like it. Don't rely on others. Yeah, dude, break that ceiling, man. You make your own you make your own luck. You make your own happy. You make your own me pie control and a sausage roll, bro. Oh, sausage. It looked good. The meat pies are good. They're big. They're like, it's something about the pastry, man. It's better than like a, it looks kind of like a chicken pot pie. Yeah, it's not. It's got usually what type of meat is it? Usually, well, there's a variety of it. So at like rugby matches in Australia or AFL, Aussie rules football. A lot of times they use that's like kind of their hot dog like at a game. Okay. They've got those and what they are is those are messier. Those are more, not really. Those are more like like hot pockety kind of. There's some pies and they're more packed in. And they're a little bit cheaper. So it'll be like ground beef in there, but it's in usually like a little sauce. Okay. You can get nicer ones like I've had one, dude. That's like the pastry's incredible. It's like a full pie. And it's got like steak pepper steak inside with a
little gravy. They put some mashed potato on top and you eat into it like that's one with a fork and a knife. These were ones that could have just picked up and eaten. They also do like these like a spicy sausage like a fennel type sausage inside of a pastry. Yeah. So that's kind of like their hot dog and it's called a sausage roll. Okay. It's phenomenal. They're incredible. They're good. It looked good. I get like some people eat them with ketchup. I guess that's a little you know what Netflix with their post games and the food choices. Well, usually the players pass on it. Like a couple of years ago, there was a football that was a red velvet cake and Lamar Jackson to Edure Care were like, no, we're good. We don't need that. Like every food item they make, the players like I'm not eating that. It's just because there's one tradition. Stop trying to change that. John Madden's Turkey. It's turduckin. It's John Madden's truck and or now it's just the turkey, right? Yes. They just do the big turkey. I think they still bring in a turduck and maybe but all the guys just get a big leg and that's the thing. You get to play on Thanksgiving. You went on Thanksgiving. You get to eat the turkey leg. That's it. Yeah. That's it. There's no Netflix got a game. Let's where we play in this one. Yeah. I mean, I don't we don't need Jonas brothers either. Like I didn't watch it. But like, you imagine they're like Japan dude and they
roll out some like sushi. You want a hand roll, Boasa? I mean, I would not be the least bit surprised. You want some sashimi? He's like, how long's up and sitting out here? But I will say this. The meat pies look better than El Duncan's gloves. I don't know what that is. No. El Duncan does no wrong in my book. I love El Duncan. I'm an El Duncan. He didn't eat the gloves last time. She had the, she had the cut off, uh, sleeved tuxedo. She looked good with the gloves. Minus the gloves. Little hot for the gloves. That's what I thought. Yeah. Well, and Clay Matthews, what a fraud. Look his face. Oh, you mean that whole AI thing? It wasn't an AI. It was like a, did you see? It's like an actual, yeah, but I had, I had some friends like text me be like, this TMZ things. We're going to tell people what we're talking about. Sorry. Clay Matthews, the former defensive and for the backers, it was a photo of him walking out of a grocery store. Well, look at the crimson shin. He looked like really, yeah, kind of, but more mainstream, I think for people would be like the Incredibles. Yeah. Mr. Incredible. He's basically got like a big like cartoonish looking jaw. And it says Clay Matthews spotted that for getting a bunch of work done. Yeah. And he looks like he's a fake cartoon like weird plastic surgery. It looks pretty clear. Kind of like when the weekend
did that thing where he had like the fake, he said he had a allergic reaction, but it was fake yet all that. Okay. Procedetic on his face. It was a whole like ad campaign. All right. And then TMZ reported that like they reported that this is not AI. He actually had this work done. It turns out it was just some advertisement thing. Yeah. I don't think it was totally AI. And it was a, it was a gambling. I was going to say I didn't even know what it was for us. I was going to say I assume this is like some market thing. How can we trust TMZ going forward now? Oh, dude, they don't break some stories. Yeah, they will. But I used to be all believe them. Well, they were right. It wasn't a high. Oh, yeah. And then more information came out to like, oh no, it's like when they were throwing those green dildos on the court and the WNBA. Yeah. And then it turned out they were like people. Some people are being paid to do it. Yeah, yeah. Advertising. Exactly. Guerrilla marketing. I was a hell of a thing. Now, man, it's got to be for the love of the game when it comes to that. No backpacks and no dose. I mean, that's a dose. That's incredible. In only KBR's and over to Colin text, we got to take a break. Marcus Thompson joins us next, right? I think so. I can't. No, no, no, he's he's the only piece of paper.
Dating me to the schedule. Let's just see if he picks up the phone. You see how many pieces of, I can't keep track of anything. I don't know where any of my, we got many pieces of paper there. It was like 40 pieces of paper. 40? Less than that. That's an exaggeration. And one of them just says September 19th birthday is the list of names. You did that research today, Dan? Yeah, to keep you on your toes. Yeah. How awful my toes now. I started me iron. So I won't forget. I don't know who Daniel Panabaker is to these people. All right. We'll take a quick break. We'll try to connect with Marcus Thompson. We'll talk to him night or football with him next. And I want to ask him about, let's go down with this. You see the DOJ is now investigating. Why Leonard in the LA Clip? That seems like too much to me for like if there's some illegal thing that happened with like this, some companies or fake companies or money. Sure. Maybe. But I'm like, we're for a vading the salary cap. Yeah, I know. Come on. What is the investigation? We'll talk to Marcus Thompson about it. Thanks. Dirty work on a Friday on these sports leader. Now back to dirty work. Adam Copeland and Derek Papa in the KNB Arcasino Matrix progressive jackpot studios casino matrix progressive jackpots are here. Where are you? Just drop in. Please
play responsibly call 1-800-Gampler. Dirty work on a Friday 49ers dominate the LA Rams. And now we're joined by Marcus Thompson of the athletic who joins us every Friday. It's going on, Marcus. What's going on? How are we doing? Oh, we do great, man. Which is the last night's game between the 49ers and Rams. I'm so glad I booked that right here on dirty work. And so everybody was going to have it right. Did not do that. Did I do that? I can't recall. I actually booked that or not. I guess I guess I did do that. That was actually like how many times are we genuinely surprised? You know, yeah. That was actually a surprising outcome. Not that they won per say. But dominated. But yeah, they they it looked like the old 49ers versus Rams. Where the Rams just always kind of like play the role of Wally Coyote. It was just
interesting to see that they still have this mojo. And having Divo be central gave it a nostalgia to it, right? And I was really thinking about that like wow, they really do just just really give the Rams a problem. Obviously the Rams have a Super Bowl in this era of the 49ers. So you know, I'll listen to arguments that you know, it's the other way. But generally speaking, when these two teams match up, you got to feel really good about the 49ers chances. And this was the one where it felt like all that was about to change. And sure enough, it didn't like that. That was that was a bit of a shocker. That was that was surprising. Yeah, I mean, I'm with you on like they're being an argument because they're the team that's gotten one, but the riders have been to what two two NFC championship games and two Super Bowls in the last four years or seven years and they've lost. I don't know. They've lost two of each of those. But head to head, there's not really an argument in terms of who's dominated that matchup. And
the one that matters. I know is that NFC championship. But what you said about Divo is kind of how I feel about the defensive side of things like I'm questioning if I've undersold in my mind, the value of what Fred Warner and Dread Green law in addition to just having Nick Bosa back was going to mean for the defense because we had so little of those guys last year. No Green law. Fred Warner went down like week six or something and Bosa went down week three. So we saw so little of them and it was about surviving. I sort of think maybe I've undersold even to this point in their careers, what their value is to that defense. I mean, I feel like you can put some exclamation points on that with Fred Warner. Yeah. Like it was how easy was it to forget the best Fred Warner's the best linebacker in basketball. I mean, you just haven't, I mean, in football, you haven't seen him. So it was easy to be like, yeah, this defense. I don't know. Fred Warner is a monster. Right. And and that was evident when he got hurt and you thought, hey, excuse me, done.
Right. Like he felt like how do you weigh with our Fred Warner? But that was a long time ago, watching him out there with essentially his personal magnifier and Dread Green law because them two together. Like you know what I'm saying? They're like they're like the old couple who always end up back together again. We're like, man, y'all are meant to be very green law and and Fred Warner. Their ability to cover the ferociousness they bring. It is just, it just pops. You know, Fred Warner even dropped the pick. I was like, yeah, to go for it. Fred's back. First, first snap of the season. He always picks it off. And I was like, that was, I mean, I think that messed up stuff. Yeah. Jumped in with perfect time and covers the route. Had the burst of speed was there. And next to you know, he's holding his hands there. Like, well, I would, that's Fred Warner. Like it was a great reminder of like, oh, yeah, this dude is different. Right. Like he is a difference maker.
And now having that in there, it just it changes what's possible. And you know, the corners do look better, right? The secondary did look better. They played better. And perhaps that's another under estimation. But I do feel like a good bolster and a good Fred Warner would make, you know, deep hop look like a viable corner out there. That was pretty good back of the day playing safety. So safety, you played safety? No, no. I was like a white safety. I know it was like, what's believable for me? I know as a white DB. You're a fullback, bro. Yeah. Yeah. I'm not Jason Seahorn back there playing cornerback. No. Talking about the pins on the opponent. That is true. That is. That is. That is true. Talking to Marcus Thompson on the Uma guest line. So I said today, I'm not making excuses for the Rams. I think the 49ers dominated them. But do you think the travel played a huge factor in yesterday's outcome? Yes. Much to my glee. I'm really just feeling like they made me feel like I was stupid, right? Because I'm like, this doesn't
make any sense. What am I missing? What is known that I don't know me? I don't know what it was just crazy. And they did all your studies and all that. Like I'm taking enough flights to know. Like jet lag is the real thing. And I just, so, so there's a part of me that was like that to be saying. But then also they put these things put so much money and so much thought and so much research into this stuff. I'm like, yo, they must they must have found something out to hatch you because why would you intentionally like essentially endanger players? Like that, that's just crazy. You could see it. It was it was visible. Like this, this was an all star defense. And Brock Birdie is like turning the corner with no problem. Right? It's just like, well, Brock Birdie is like one of the best athletes on the field. Somebody's lost a step. It just felt like they were dragging. And second half, like it's it's a close game. They're there. And second half, they didn't look like
they have any they had anything. And after all that money, after all that education and the end comments is prevailed. We aren't dumb. So I was very happy about that because I thought I was going to have to rechange how I travel now. Yeah, I'm like, oh, I'm a quick turnaround trip to Milan. Let's see. But I would I would accuse myself out there. So I've done it. I'm glad we know what's up. Remember, he did it like two months ago. That's right. Yeah, I was and look at you. You still they recovered. No, I'm a mess. But you know what? I handled it better than Matthews D'Averdie yesterday. I'll say that. Yeah, well, same line basically. Yeah, exactly. D'Averdie, in front of touchdowns either. They're talking to Marcus Thompson on the Umer desk. Like, okay, like I never want to get to ahead of myself after one game. And one game doesn't mean the world. But a lot of questions have started to be answered about things we had for this team. And also the Rams looked really flat. And there's there's a case that like they're aging guys on the Rams. I mean, to add them, it didn't look great yesterday. At some point, Matt Stafford won't be the version of Matt Stafford. We know, but we can
fear the same thing about a lot with the 49ers. But then I look at even what we've seen so far with Seattle, right? Like we stack up this division. How long does Sam Darle that? And how long can that defense sustain them if it's it's drew lock based on what we've seen to this point? What where would you place the division after one week? I mean, I'm still going Rams. But without Donald, you're right. Like we're talking, where will they finish or provide everybody to help you at the end of the year you go with? Yeah, I mean, like that's the thing is just situationally based on what we've seen or contextually based on what we're like lock is there to be for the next couple of weeks? That's a big. That's a you know what? The reason I'm not too like starting to shrunk about it with the uh, see Hawks is I'm not the biggest Donald guy. Like I do feel like he's a pretty good quarterback who has a great situation. Yeah. So I don't know that he's elevating the sea hawks as much as he's benefiting from what they have. Now I'm not saying
he's a bad, he's a good quarterback, but like we all know if he's paying this thing to go go left. So like I'm not giving too much use to that. I do think they do take a step back. I mean, lock is clearly a step back from Darnell. I don't know, but I still think when they're fully healthy, they're still a problem. It's a massive thing. The Rams is the one where it's like I think they're the better team. I just don't think they want to see the 49ers. Like that's just it's like a logical at this point between Towsha and the end of Sean McKay. I love that. So and where do you play? Where's his game? Right? Do you actually want it in so far? I don't know. I don't know that you do it for them. I don't know that you want to go here and deal with a fan base that's going to like be Little York, right? So to me, that's just like a rivalry thing. That's different, but I still think the Rams are the better team. And I think if there is any
blowback outside of the fact that the 49ers might be tired, they really put, you can tell they really want to win this game. They put a lot into it. So you could, they're pride for a week to let down. But to me, the bigger blowback would be we start living that 49ers again, like, hey, hold on. Right? I think they really kind of benefit from the galvanizing of a team that counted out. And we see like, I mean, even the players they have, like the Fred Warner who missed last year, and it will he be the same. Nick Bolsa is not Nick Bolsa anymore. D-Bolt was a cast off still trying prove he's he was jaded. Brock hurting no matter what will forever be like the underdogs who have to prove himself like that spirit really plays well for them like they can use it. So I think just by nature of who they are, they don't want to get too ahead of themselves. I think they're like, yeah, you keep underestimating. Go ahead. You keep looking at the Rams and Seahawks. And then over time,
I do think they can figure some things out to be a problem if they say healthy. One more for you, Marcus. Obviously, Sean McVeigh has the hardware over Kyle Shanahan. A lot of coaches do, but I mean, even Ted Winne in the athletic this offseason went around football asking defense coordinators. Who's the best play caller? And everybody said Kyle Shanahan. I think Kyle Shanahan, like he gets disrespected by the fans enough, but man, was he prepared last night? Where do you place Kyle Shanahan amongst the best coaches in football right now? I mean, there's a feeling there until you win, right? Because in the end, that's the ultimate sign. But as far as the play caller goes, and especially if you give them time, like I think he is where Andy Reed was before Andy Reed, one of the titles. Like that title puts you there, but remember Andy Reed, like by week Andy Reed was a thing. Yeah. Like you're just not beating them up. Kyle's like that. Like he's a guy that like you better have an edge against him because he's going to figure out a
way to loosen up your defense. He's going to get you. He's great with the misdirection. And also, like just if we want to be frank about it, Chris McAfry is amazing and you can do a lot with him. Like he's there's there's probably nobody better at maximizing a talent like that than Kyle Shanahan. And you can just see it like all over the field. That's why he doesn't always need as much as we like kind of want him to go get the big quarterback and the big receiver. That's needed as much because he can do these things with that. But if you give him like, it makes you wonder if you give him like a Justin Jefferson, what happens? So I think Kyle is a lead. I think his ability to get his guys to grind like they have a good football spirit. And that that's what they'll be in the mix. Like no matter what happens, I mean, sometimes you lose enough talent the season's done. But generally speaking, a lot of this is just about will and softness and having the right mindset and positive. Like he's really good at all
that. The one knock on Kyle is can't he get over the hump in the big game once he does that his entire perspective will change, right? It will be like, all right, he's one of the great coaches we've seen it in football. I mean, he's truly a game changer, which by the way, game changers by Marcus Thompson, the new book. It's next week, right? Marcus is the 15th. I mean Tuesday, September 15th, you know, I'm saying like it's your copy pre-orders available now. I wouldn't even go and do it with my guy coach come to me. Come on, bro. You know, I got you to plus your publicist wants to be a real man. You're the Brock birdie of football. I gotta get it in. I was waiting to the end because I knew we were going heavy football, but seriously, I didn't want to plug in game changers. The go to revolutionized basketball. Can you, I mean, tell us about it. I've got a whole bio on it here. It's like statistical breakdowns and player lineage that trace how generations of superstars directly inspired the next. So error to error, how this stuff gets handed down. I mean, tell us the premise for the book, dude. You just did. That was excellent. I think it was good. It's good. It's
good. I mean, that it's evolution. It's fastball evolution. How do we get? I mean, I cut off. I was like, man, I'm not going back to George Micke because that's too much work. So I started with Magic and Bird. Yeah. Right. Thank you. How do we get from there to here? Right? And it's all one connected story. And really, I really just don't like the way we talk about basketball now. We're in order to lift up one, you gotta tear down to others. Yes. And other errors are terrible. And to me, it's really one basketball story. These errors are far more linked. And it's something that's it's something better to appreciate instead of divide, right? Like there's no Steph Curry without Steve Nash. Right? So Steve Nash, you're very flunger of all time. No, but you better respect Steve Nash because there's no Steph Curry without Steve Nash. And I feel like we need to do that more in the discourse instead of saying Steve Nash horrible. He couldn't he couldn't do this. You know, there's no Michael Jordan without Dr. J. Did he play in a different era? Yes, he did. Whether short, too short, if they were. But there's no Michael Jordan without Dr.
Vay. And that to me, these connections were just worth investigating and seeing like who changed the sport? When they were done, how did they change like how we lift the basketball on what was possible? We should revere these people. Now, I just want to know like, is it pure statistical? Like how the game evolved? There was a cultural stuff too. Because Magic and Bird were a major part of that into Jordan, into Iverson and so on and so forth. I mean, it became a fashion show. You know what I mean? Like the league is evolved and David Stern's like how much of that stuff is involved in the book too? Oh, yeah, it's all that. Like Iverson was a big cultural shift, right? Sure. I mean, every time you go to a Oklahoma City press conference, and Shay Gilgis Alexander's in there with a fur coat and a turtleneck up to a scene with some corn rolls in the head, then you better be you better be thinking Iverson, right? It is cultural. It is a lot of people and basketball is part of that, right? Like sometimes helping us see like how a culture needs to change.
And it's hard like basketball is as much emotion and culture and society as it is a sport, you know, especially the way we process it. So yes, some of those people really do nicks like okay, now that this has happened, like a humanized-newond opened up Africa. It's like that about that, you know, like it's a whole continent. He's like oh, oh, they they can hoop over there and they're smart. They have good IQ and they have touch and feel. Oh, that's good. Now, okay, let's go let's go scour the continent for other resources we can pillage. I mean, sorry, that was like a little historical. And you an African and you would tell it to the same time. You got to talk about it. I'm part blood diamond also available on HBO Max. Marcus Thompson's Marcus Thompson's new book Game Changers, available for preorder right now. It's artificially on Tuesday the 15th. The Go To Revolutionized Basketball.
I assume my copies in the mail from your public. No, not yet. I think it's not a twin because I emailed her back to send me a copy. It just hasn't gotten here yet. I don't think I was lazy on the I know. I was lazy on the I feel like you got a copy. You try to get another one. I think that's what I have to all take a copy. It never arrived. Yeah, I did. My I have a table that's uneven and I need to level it out. So I figured if I got a second one, I could sit at the table and read the other one. I'll take that one. Okay. I mean, table changes. Table changes. Go to table changes. Marcus Thompson's new book Game Changers. The Go To Revolutionized Basketball. Marcus, appreciate the time. As always, congrats on the book. We'll talk to you next week. Later, Marcus. All right, homies. All right. Later, bro. Sounds cool. That book sounds really cool. No, I guess I'll buy one. I can get an extra copy for you. Yeah, that'd be nice. Don't tell Marcus. It seems like he's really sensitive about that. Geez. Marcus told me one time he gave when he wrote the stuff, Currybook, Golden. Yeah. He gave his daughter a copy. And we're talking. I think we jumped about it with him with Tom.
And he was like, my daughter's never read my book. Yeah. And he's like, I gave her a copy and everything else. He did. He said, yeah. And I know she hasn't read it because I taped a $20 bill into the back page. I was like, and I would go back periodically and check to see if the money was there. Well, she never even, oh, never even flipped through the book. Damn, she went to the Jermarkis Russell Road. And so yeah, he gave him the blank tape or JP Lawson as Dante Witton told me. Where what we're referencing is is young quarterbacks. You they knew weren't studying film. And the NFL, they would give them a DVD or like a video to go home and study their their film studying all that. And it'd be blank. Yeah. Come back to be like, what did you learn? And they would get up and make them talk about it. And they'd like, oh, man, man, I learned this and blah, blah. And they'd be like, put it on. And it's the tape they gave him is there's nothing on this tape. It's like they put a graphic that says, we know you didn't watch this. Right. Yeah, tough deal. Anyway, that's what Marcus is doing. All right. I think he said at one point, he's like, I just went at one point. I took the 20 back. He's like, I should have there. In the book, Adam Copeland, Derek Popper with you. I want to get into the question. I just asked Marcus. This is a good topic you had it in the rundown for today. Based on what we know now, I'm not going to say, I won't say, were we wrong
and how we stacked up the NFC rest? No, of course not. We didn't see anything. But one weekend did give us a bit of data. We saw the three teams in the US. And we saw two of them head to head with each other, right? Marcus had a good point where he said, I think the Rams can still be the number one team. I just don't think they want to see the 49ers, which might also be true. It might be that might also be maybe the 90s are there a kill. It might be. Talk more about that. But what does the NFC West look like in your mind today? And don't forget Drew Locke is the starting quarterback week two against Arizona. We'll talk about that next dirty work on a Friday on the sports leader.
