Welcome. To Sounds of Brass.
Yes, what a brilliant starter to today show the torture freedom by Eric Ball and performed
by the Black Dyke band with conductor Roy Newsom. What a good start to the day. Well, after
a March and a normal concert, I think it's only apt to move on to an overture. Well, this
overture to the Wuer opera William Tell was composed by Rossini. William Tell premiered in
1829 and was the last of Rossini's 39 operas, after which he went into semi-retirement. Well,
we've got a glorious street for you now. We've got the William Tell overture performed by
no other than the grind soap, Colory band.

Well, after a brilliant march, a brilliant overture and a fantastic euphonium solo, I think
then, in a concert, I would just toad it down slightly, just a little bit and enjoy this
next item. And this is an arrangement of the tune St Clemens, originally written for the
2002 UK Territorial Gospel Arts concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London. It is based
on the hymn The Day Thou Gavest by John Eleton. This is Ray Stedman Allen's Evening hymn
performed by the New York staff band of the Salvation Army.
The Day Thou Gavest by John Eleton. The Day Thou Gavest by John Eleton.
Yes, that was the New York staff band with a brilliant arrangement entitled Evening hymn.
And that was obviously based on The Day Thou Gavest, wonderful staff, New York staff band.
Well, once we've had a hymn tune, it's nice to add a little bit of a lively performance.
Well, the next one is from one of the latest movies from the Masters of Animation at Pixar Studios.
The story tells of a family of undercover superheroes who, while trying to live the quiet suburban
life, are forced into action to save the world. The music is inspired by 1960s TV cop dramas
and spy thrillers and fits the action perfectly. This is the polished steel band with The Incredibles.
Yes, wonderful stuff thing.
Yes, wonderful stuff. The Incredibles. Hope that's got you going a little bit after a quiet subdued hymn tune.
Wonderful Incredibles. Love that every minute of it.
Well, Flowerdale is a forest in Westeros, Scotland, which is where I hail from these days,
which is well known for its beautiful waterfall. This piece for solo soprano call it is one of the movements
from Philip Sparks' epic sweet hymn of the Highlands. It depicts the tall trees swaying gently in the wind
with the serenity of the area being reflected by the subtle accompaniment of the band.
Yes, this is Flowerdale and we've got the most amazing soprano call it player ever to sit in a brass band.
It is of course the wonderful Peter Roberts. This is Flowerdale by Philip Sparks, performed by Peter Roberts on soprano call it.

Yes, as you can see, the raptures around of applause.
That was a live recording of Peter Roberts there with Flowerdale.
Absolutely stunning. Hope you enjoyed that.
Well, now we're going to go back to another overture.
Yes, this was composed in 1843 and first performed at the Sally Hart Paris on the 3rd of February.
1844.
A standalone overture intended for concert performers made of material and themes from Berlioz's opera Benvenuto Shilini, including some music from the opera's carnival scene,
hence the overture's title, Lacanival Romain, or Roman Carnival overture.
And this is only performed by the brilliant Brighass and Rastric band.
And this is the first overture performed by the brilliant Brighass and Rastric band.

Well, that's a wild factor. Brighass and Rastric band with a classical overture there.
Le Carnival, Romain. Hope you enjoyed that.
Well, I'll be back with you just after this short little promotion.

And after that real big heavy overture, it's time to lighten the mood a little bit, I think, anyway.
Well, this is a stunning brilliant arrangement from the following great foot tapping tunes,
another opening, another show.
There's no business like show business.
Get me to the church on time.
Oklahoma, that's entertainment and 76 trombones.
Well, if you guess what it is, it's breezing down Broadway by Goff Richards,
and it's performed by the bonacord silver band.
