What is going on guys, it's springtime, the weather is beautiful.
So what are some springtime gun-related stuff, gun-fighting related stuff we can talk about?
That's today's episode.
Welcome, where we talk about guns, gun-related topics the right way, with God Almighty at
the center, the biblical Judeo-Christian values, and real world firsthand experience, bio-bullet
points, and the show notes.
Okay, now it shouldn't make any difference what season it is, you should always be praying
and reading your Bible, reading your Bible and praying, that should be a constant in your
life, I hope.
One of the things about spring, one of the things that got me thinking about it is I've
been able to run outside with my shirt off, you know, David Hasselhoff style, if any
of you are old enough to get that reference, I never actually saw that show, but I'm aware
of his existence.
Just running outside, I will run on the treadmill, I will do cardio in the winter, I will
even rock on a treadmill, but it's miserable.
If you ever want to experience time travel, just run on a treadmill, time basically stands
still.
So just if you ever want to experience that, just run on a treadmill, it's pretty miserable,
it's even more miserable than regular running.
But since the weather's getting nice, run outside, cardio, cardio, cardio, gun-fighter
life, part of fighting is cardio, whether you like it or not, I didn't ask you if you
liked it, I don't care if you liked it, you should be doing it.
It will help you live a better life, whether you ever get in a gun fight or not, cardio,
it's important.
Running outside is just so much more enjoyable.
If you get a chance to do some trail running, I'm blessed to live, so the Oregon Trail,
part of the Oregon Trail is on my way home, so I can run on the Oregon Trail.
It's beautiful.
But wherever you live, there's probably some kind of trail, even in Mordor, even east
of the Mississippi River in the People Hive.
You can probably find some trails to run on.
Running outside on trails is, although it's still running and it can still be miserable,
it's a lot better.
So get that cardio in, it's springtime, get that cardio in.
That's one of the constants of warriors throughout history, fighters, gun-fighters, they're warriors.
So that you're talking about Greek hoplites or Spartans or Roman legionnaires or samurai
or the Zulu to whomever, today's Special Forces guys, Marines, right?
Cardio.
Cardio is a constant in there, they're all need to be good at cardio, and so do you.
Cardio.
I think I've hampered that enough, but that's important.
I know we talk a lot about guns, and I talk a lot about guns because I've been a professional
gun fighter most of my adult life, so I have, I started the podcast because a lot of people
talk about guns, don't have a lot of firsthand experience, and that's fine if you just want
gun entertainment, just click on YouTube, Glitterati and watch them shoot watermelons or whatever.
But if you want real-world firsthand experience, that's why I started the podcast.
That's why I talk so much about guns, although there's a lot of gun content out there, there's
not a lot of it with a vast variety of real-world firsthand experience, so I focused on guns
a lot.
However, your cardio is probably much more important, because again, even if you never
get in a gun fight, you know, cardio is important.
So cardio, live a better life whether or not you are into guns or not.
So there's that, cardio.
The next one, very similar, training.
This is the time when weather's nice.
A lot of the serious firearm training is going to be done outside, taking classes, although
some places in the country, you know, like Vegas or Phoenix, you might be better off in
the winter going to a class, and most places, you're going to be better off spring or fall.
I like summer because I like it hot.
I would take 101 over 40 degrees any day for a firearm class.
I like it hot.
Ironically, I don't live in a very hot place because I love freedom, and a lot of places
with heat don't, they have way too many people, anyway, or they have really bad hunting.
Anyway, where was I?
Get a training class, right?
This is a good time of year.
Now, unfaulable.
Fall is hunting season.
So it's one of the worst times for me because I want to be hunting.
I want to be out in the woods, slaying beasts and putting meat in the freezer, feeding
the family.
So spring time is a great time for training.
I just had some training, it was the last week, this week, I don't know, it's been so
long.
I've been working so many days, I can't hardly keep track, but I just got some training.
You should be getting some training.
It's training season.
So if you're looking at taking a training class, whether it's your first or your 50th,
get training.
Now is a good time of year in most of the country, again, some places, it's not.
Some places you might still have snow on the ground, but in many places now or quickly
approaching is a great time for training.
Look up training classes in your area that are germane to what you want to do, defensive
handgun or fighting handgun or fighting carbine class or whatever it is, right?
Seek training, get training.
Range setup.
Now is a good time if your range is normally super cold.
If you have a place where you can set up your own range like out west and you're blessed
to be able to shoot on BLM land or anywhere like that, you have a place where you can
go shoot on somebody's private property if you live back east.
Now is a time to look up.
Now would be a good time to start looking up your range setup.
Your steel targets you want for this year, all your range kit, your target stands.
I need to replace some of my target stands or pretty beat up, but I've been doing a
little bit of that, getting that stuff reworked, but you get the idea, right?
Get your range setup ready so that when you do get really nice stage and you get some
time off, you already have the stuff to set up your range and do your practice sessions
to hopefully train the skills that you learned in the training classes that you've taken.
Okay, another one.
Hunting season.
You're like, well, hunting season.
Well, there is turkey season in the spring.
And some stuff like varmins, you can hunt year round, but if you want to be a successful
hunter in the fall, you should be scouting throughout the year.
And again, a lot of places is a really good time of year to be in the woods.
Again, not if you live in Mordor because you might get Lyme disease because there's
so many ticks there that it's just a communicable disease.
I know so many people back there that have Lyme disease or have gotten it or AlphaGal, it's
just gross.
But if you are not concerned about Lyme disease where you are or you just don't care,
then now is a good time to be in the woods because it's such a beautiful time of year.
And a lot of things blooming, a lot of things having babies.
It's just a great time to be out and about.
So now is the time if you want to be a successful hunter in the fall, right?
You don't become a successful hunter in the fall on November 1st, or whenever your
hunting season is November 15th, I don't know, whatever part of the country.
You become a good hunter, scouting out areas and looking at areas, not on the computer
in real life, boots on the ground, this time of year and throughout the summer and all
throughout the year.
A lot of places like Ryliv, you might have a snow pack in the winter, see, unless you're
snow-shoeing, you're not getting too far in.
But now is a good time of year to observe all those wonderful things in the spring.
You know, the flowers blooming in the birds chirping and the little babies running around.
I got to see a little baby bird barely able to fly, just barely able to get off the
ground yesterday.
I was watching them.
Adorable.
Enjoy that stuff.
Get out in God's creation, right?
Psalm 19, the heavens declare the glory of God.
Okay.
Another one.
Competition.
It's gearing out to be competition season.
And at least where I live, April is the start of two competitions that I'm looking forward
to competing in this year, which is Steel Challenge, and CMP, High Power, Civilian
Martianship Program, High Power, Service Rifle.
I'm looking forward to both of those things, both of those things where I am start in April.
I don't know where it will be for you, but if you've been thinking about getting any
competition, now is probably the time because you'll have a long season.
You probably don't want to get into it when there's only one or two matches left of
the year.
So, look up one that's good for you.
I've talked about, I've done all episodes on competition to look at what you're interested
in and what's good for beginners and what's maybe not so good for beginners.
But look at getting into competition.
That is a good thing for the spring.
Let's see here.
If you're doing any kind of spring cleaning out in the garage, right now would be a good
time to go through your ammo inventory, if the ammo is available when you listen to this,
I'm kind of surprised that ammo is still available now, considering all the things that are
going on.
But it is.
I've seen ammo dry up for, in my mind, much sillier reasons.
But ammo right now at this time of this recording is still widely available.
I've seen prices start to creep up, but again, if ammo is available when you listen to this,
do your ammo inventory when you're doing your spring cleaning going through the garage?
Check boxes like, okay, whatever, I've got plenty of 9, I've got plenty of 22, but maybe
I'm short on 223.
That was my example.
I had plenty of the other calibers, but I was like, I'm kind of skint on 556, so or 223,
and you probably should stock up on that calibre.
But that's a good example of you go through your stuff and you're like, oh, you know, I've
got this in that, but if only got half a box left of 243, I should probably get a couple
more boxes of that.
Whatever your example is, right?
You don't have a decent stock pile of ammo, especially with everything going on.
But do an inventory when you do your spring cleaning of, you know, okay, I've got plenty
of this, I've got plenty of that.
But this is the one thing that I'm lacking in.
That way, when it is competition season and you're competition shooting at ammo dries up,
you can still finish out the season.
You can still continue to go to training classes.
You don't have to be like, oh, I've got to cancel that training class because it's, you
know, 2000 rounds of ammo for the training class time, I don't have it.
Well, you already have it.
So when things do dry up, you can still train because it's not really important how many
tens of thousands of rounds you have in your bunker.
It's important in gunfighting that you're good with the rounds that are in your magazine
on your hip or in the magazines in your rifle, the rounds in the magazine in your rifle.
That's what's important.
Otherwise, you're just going to be a loot drop to the guy that died with 10,000 rounds.
So if you can't win with the rounds that are in your gun, the other rounds are going
to be inconsequential to you.
So the main, for me, I do prep and I am in a survival, but the main storage of storing
ammo for me is I like to shoot and I like to train and I want to be good with the guns
that I have.
And that requires ammo.
So now is a good time to go through if you're doing the spring cleaning, going through that
ammo stock pile.
I organized a bunch of ammo this last weekend because of whether it was nice.
And the wife was like, this place is a mess.
I'm like, fine.
I'll help clean up the garage and it's mostly my stuff, the reloading bench and the tools
and all that stuff.
Anyway, that's a good thing to do right now if ammo is available when you listen to this.
Which is going to bring us to the tactical tip of the day, baby wipes.
You might think baby wipes are just for babies or baby wipes if you were in the military
is just for when you have an out of shower in a few months and you got to get to grime
a little bit, knock down.
But that's not just what they're for.
They can also be very good for cleaning guns, especially like the outside of guns, especially
lives somewhere like Arizona, Nevada, real dusty, nasty environments.
Just wipe them down with a baby wipe.
And those kind of environments, you're probably not worried about rust, right?
Because things dry almost immediately.
So if you can just wipe off the dust on the outside of your gun with a baby wipe that
works really well.
Obviously, if you're in a more human environment, make sure they air drive before you put them
back together.
But baby wipes can be really good for like a quick clean outside of your gun, especially
if you sweat it on it or stuff like that, just wiping it off with a baby wipe is a really
good hack for quick cleaning of at least the outside of firearms.
Depending on what you want, some of them will have a little bit of alcohol in there, which
can help in cleaning.
Some of them will have a little bit of soap compound in there, which can also help for cleaning.
So if you just be aware of that, just maybe not any of the ones that are like scented or whatever
the girly stuff is.
But you get the idea.
This can be a good thing for quick cleaning of big surfaces on firearms.
Get a bunch of extra lube on something.
You're like, oh, I don't want to put that against my face.
Wipe it off with a baby wipe.
Like you put way too much CLP on it, it's leaking out all over the place, baby wipe.
It's just a good thing to have around.
