I'm like, all right, whatever. But I'm not going to lie to you. Just AI stuff recently. Little weird, little worrisome, little worrisome, not going to lie. Did not know that you did not give any hint that we were going to be talking about AI here in the intro. I'm with you, Casey. I have no idea where this is going. I'm just going to figure it out along the way, I guess. Devin, what about you? What about you? And I'm Devin Brown, A. Listen, it is time to get back to work. The spurs are ready. You know, like, you know, that is a company guy. Yeah, that's right. I have a group of that. That is me to a T company guy. That is you. All right, knowledge, so to speak, is the topic of conversation. I guess the theme tonight or lack thereof because, yeah, we alluded to the AI thing off the top. Everyone's worried about that in the world.

3:08Apparently it's ending. So we got to see if they know what the spurs are going to do before it ends. We've had a couple of prompts for chat GPT that I want to throw out the fellas and get your guys' take at home. And plus, we're going to talk about some of the takes that we've had. Now that we're hitting the end of the road and we're having a fewer, fewer, fewer of these fun episodes. And that business is starting in a couple of weeks. We're going to revisit our best and our worst takes of the season and get out of here. Of course, with more Q and A for Devin Brown. But let's start with something. I didn't have bad take. I don't know what you're talking about. I don't know where my worst takes were. I'm not sure. I don't know if it was a bad take. It was just a hated take. A hated take. A hated welcome. Anyways, huge animation. We got a lot of questions to deeply internalize. I guess you could say about this spurs. Now that the summer is over, we are less than a month away from pre-season games. Just a matter of two weeks and change away from training camp getting underway. We can have these conversations with ourselves a little bit.

4:09An interesting offseason for your San Antonio spurs. Some good, some bad, some stuff in between. But that's where I posed the question. To you first, Mr. Devin Brown. When I ask you to put a tidy bow on everything the spurs have done this season, whether it be personnel, whether it been seen them out at work, whether it been something as simple as watching those YouTube videos with the trainers that always make the guys look good, what is your overriding sentiment that you learned about the spurs going into the fall? Well, Casey, and it's a great question. Let me start off by shouting out those guys with the foam pads, taking a beating, whether it's our spurs or you see them against the players all around. It makes you think sometimes that those guys going off in some of the NBA players work on defense. That's crazy. Now, my biggest thing is are the spurs ready? Are the spurs ready? And when I say that, are they ready for the season that they're getting ready to have?

5:14Are they prepared for what's in store for them? You have some polls that have them winning it all. You have some polls having them against New York in the finals, against Philadelphia in the finals. Is Coach Mitch going to be able to bring this group together? Keep them focused for 82 basketball games. That's the important thing. When you look at this, and I just right away think about pop bringing us in day one pre-season and he said, listen, if you come in here listening to that outside world and everything that's going on out there, get your stuff, he didn't say stuff, get your stuff and get out of here right now. So for Mitch, it's going to be, yes, the guys are going to be excited at the beginning of the season. Are you going to be able to stay focused, Matt? I'm going to turn it to you. Are you going to be able to stay focused and win those games that you need to win and take some of the games you're not supposed to win on the road and have a good year because

6:16I'm going to tell you right now, you know, you were the hunter last year, but now everybody's going to be coming after you. Yeah, I'm glad you brought up pop because this offseason reminded me of a pop off season. This offseason reminded me of continuity of like we're keeping this team together. We're not going to go out and make like big splashes. We're going to go get someone like Tobias Harris and that's kind of it. Like of course you draft your terrace read and your and your jaden, jaden acquaintance, but those are kids at this one. What? Terace read is 23 who is that's like that's like middle of the road for this first team. It's like that's kind of right in the middle, but but this offseason really reminded me of like the old school spurs, Devon, like keep these guys together. Don't go changing a whole bunch of stuff just because you lost in the finals. Like you were almost there.

7:17And so yeah, this this offseason really reminded me of like this is what a team that knows it's ready to compete. This is what a team like that does during the offseason. They don't mess around too much. They bring everybody back basically except for the expendables and we all know who they were. But I just I think that they nailed it. I really do. And I think that you keep your powder drive from a financial standpoint. Like obviously you get you are really fortunate in that Victor, you know, decides that I don't need that extra $50 million on the back end of the contract. I can I can do without that if it helps the team. We will see obviously like what sort of ramifications that has down the road, what kind of impact that has maybe even like on other dudes mindsets when it comes to contract negotiations because

8:23I know that's something that we've talked about a whole lot this off season. But I just thought that they they looked like the old school spurs with a new school taste right? Like all these young coaches, young players, all this stuff, even with the the dudes. Forgive me Devon the old dudes in the background like yourself like having this same like this is what the spurs looked like back then. Well, now they kind of look like the same type of deal like bring everyone back run this thing back. We believe in what we have. We're not going to change too much. Let's do this again and see where it gets us. Yeah, I would think the word if you had to package it all up and put one word on it. I think I would probably have used consistent. Probably the word I would have gone with to piggyback off of that because consistency for all the ways and listen, I'm guilty of it.

9:23I'm probably the biggest one prisoner of the moment for all the all the stuff that went wrong in the finals. We have to remember that look perspective right there. This was an immensely positive season. They got to the finals. They get to the finals in 160 plus games, right? I mean, some of the criticism I think I have is fair, but other times at least, I'm aware of the moment. Whatever, whatever, I'm acknowledging that. I know. I know I can be even posted, but I listen. We're going to get to hot takes coming up a little bit and we'll tie it back in together. But I think consistency is kind of thing and that's kind of what you wanted to go off of knowing what you saw even at the start of last year. The off season going into last year of kind of finding a formulaic type of flow to build a foundation and progressively, I hate saying build the steps because this is the stuff is media. We get beaten over the head with it by Brian Wright and Mitch and all this stuff.

10:25So I'm just kind of playing into that more. But like building the steps to get to where they need to be and this is where they need it to be, right? This is everything that we've seen come to fruition has been a byproduct of those steps and whatever. I think that does play very well hand in hand though with kind of just the old school idea of this first in the past, right? Not to say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. But like it's clearly not broken. Things are going very well. It's tidying things up in the finals for what you learned from the finals and putting that into play to fix that once the game start again and things are in a good spot. The tinker with the pieces a little bit on the outside, they did. Consistent is probably the word I would go with going from the summer into the next game. Just to your point, Casey. Yeah. I can say and make fun of you and all that stuff and I can say continuity. It's all good. But a lot of this depends on roster development and development with youth.

11:31It's not a done deal or anything like that. They obviously still have things to prove, but they're betting on that, right? Like they're just betting on these 20 some things to continue to improve. And it's not like we're not going to have an answer right now. It's like Devon says pretty regularly, we're all right right now. Like today, we're all right. Like whatever our opinion is, we're all right. But it's going to have to prove itself on the court for sure. So it's not, hey, you got to buy his Harris title right now. Like, that's not how it works. So yeah, they definitely, they're banking on youth and that is always going to be a question mark, no question. And so in that capacity, like your skepticism or anything that you've,

12:32through any lens that you've looked through this, through with the idea of skepticism and like, do they have enough in place? Is the personnel right? Like is the fit right? All of this stuff? It's valid at this point because they have not proven that they can win it all. They're just banking on that development, being a huge part of what's going to happen in the future. Kevin, I had a question about kind of a player's mentality off of something like this from one summer into the next and kind of building the steps. You went through a similar, at least from the heartache aspect of it. You went from the Lakers' loss in the conference semis, ultimately winning a championship the following year. And it comes to building those things and building that player's, I guess, callus, so to speak. Be aware but not let that type of thing tear you apart.

13:35How did you do that as a player going into the new year? And how much did that kind of motivate you going into that next season to ultimately take some historic stuff out of it? Well, you know, for us looking at how we, you know, had to deal with the point for a situation and then going back to L.A. and having to really perform when we needed to game six and guess what, we felt flat. We didn't force the game seven season was over. So when you're building for that next summer, all you're really waiting on is a text or some sort of sign. And for us, the sign was it was a week and a half later and Tim's already in the locker room. And we got out about that that he was already at the prax facility working. So what happened? You get back. Yeah, it takes a couple of days. And the whole roster was back in the gym with him. So you see things like that. So when you look at what the spurs are doing and how they've, you know, kind of changed

14:40from last year to this year was they got away like, you know, when you talk about their style of play, they can play fast, they can play slow. They can hit threes when they're not in threes, they get you locked down defense, things like that. The big, one of the biggest keys and I know we've talked about this before, but adding a Billy Donovan as the coach. Now what you can do is he, and I'm pretty sure he's already done it, is going to break down where Wimbee can get the ball in different areas. If you look back to last year and the different spots that they tried to put Wimbee in, it was kind of hampering everybody else around him. Well, now what Billy's going to do is Billy's going to give you more schemes. He's going to give you some movement off of the ball where others are still involved, even though Wimbee's in an ISO situation. So when you look at the things that the spurs have done to clean up the coaches, the roster and things like that is going to be very interesting because now there's three keys here.

15:41You're going to get a different Harrison Barnes. You added Harris and you're going to get a different Fox next year. Add those three ingredients into what you did last year and I think that should get you off to a good start. I'm actually really glad that that Devon brought up Billy in this capacity because it's like, so I don't want to say this in a way that would like take away from what Sean Swini is good at and what Mitch Johnson is good at. But like both of those dudes are defense first all the way through. Billy is someone who over the years and you could say with in a lot of cases, like not always, but a lot of cases during a lot of seasons had a little bit of a lack of just overall talent on the offensive end every single year.

16:42Billy Donovan offenses look good. Think about how many times the spurs had to play that Chicago Bulls team with like, nobody on it. I'm not saying that offensively, but nobody we know. Nobody. Nobody. I mean, unless you're a basketball nerd, like you're talking about like how are these dudes like pushing 118 points or something like that, but he did that every single season. And I think I'm with him and I'm glad that he brought that up because I think it's going to matter. I think that between Mitch, between Coralus Williamson and let's not like take it away from Billy Donovan, he's a schematic dude across the board. He ain't just offense, but you have guys like Coralus and Mitch in place to carry over. A lot of what you did last year defensively. And by the way, you got that Victor Wimbongam guy, the scheme ain't that complicated.

17:44You stick him under the rim and you figure it out from there. You have a guy who can produce offense and he has throughout the course of his career not just as an NBA head coach, but as a college head coach that won back to back titles at that level. Like this dude knows what he's doing and schematically that's going to matter on the offensive end because I think that we can all look back at that the NBA finals and say like what happened to the offense down the stretch of those games where it just all lacked all of it lacked Billy Donovan matters, man. On the topic of coaches, the Spurs small new, small piece of news, but always tends to be a bigger one down the road. So take note, because it might become more applicable in five to seven years, the Austin Spurs announced their new headman today, a gentleman by the name of Chris Kent in case you're not familiar with his work.

18:45And I know a lot of you probably are not because I was not prior to about an hour ago. Chris recently served as an assistant and the director of player development at Florida State for the 25-26 season, has experienced coaching with the Fort Wade Maddance. He was actually an intern over there before joining FSU as a grad assistant and some video coordinator roles, intern roles along the way working his way up. Found a pretty good spot in the San Antonio. Can I shout him out real quick? Shout him out. Shout him out. Hey, Cogs Kent, there's Devin Brown here, former Spur. Love the fact that you went to Florida State, one of my favorite college football teams. You're going to have a young man at your tryout there on Saturday's, named ZLJ Brown. That's my son. Give him a good look. Thank you. Thank you, Casey. You're welcome. I'll, LJ is a great kid. My mother. He is. He is great. This is coming from a dude who has a pretty unique tryout history in his own right.

19:51Don't you, Neiman? Yeah. You know that? Yeah, had a heck of a tryout with the, was it the 0102 after that season with the Spurs? It was quite a tryout. They went well. Sure did. You have one of the most unique stories in NBA history. I'm not even going to lie. You know, what's crazy about that is a lot of people, like when you get into the depths of it, you have no idea, but Matt, you're absolutely right. I mean, I'll tell you what, like looking back at it, you're like, nah, that's not a true story. You're like, oh, that's actually me. I did. Honestly, can you imagine if that happened today? It would be unbelievable. It would be all these platforms. Yeah. Just imagine if Devon, the social media. Whoa, you see my tag right there. That's maybe my tag ever since I signed up.

20:53Yeah, there you go. And you know, I'm glad that you did that because as you guys can see on screen, coming up on the other side of the break, we're going to be talking about this whole AI thing. And I wanted to put AI's knowledge to the test. Artificial intelligence, not Alan Iverson. No, no, no, no, thank you for clarifying. Artificial intelligence. Chat GPT to be specific. And one of those things, Devon spoiled it. I actually asked them about Devon himself. We'll put that at the end, but it's, there was a contextual relevance that I at least had to acknowledge now. 22:55podcast? It's not me if there's any inaccuracies because feel free. I'm not perfect when articulating this. But there was a AI researcher who long story short said earlier this week that it is a very reasonable chance given the way that AI is growing. Should things go sour in their minds, it might be a wrap for the human race. In the spirit of that. I wanted to, yeah, that sums it up time you say. Yeah, I mean, I feel like we've been like, yeah, yeah, I think they're accurate. Yeah, yeah, you know, I don't know what else to say. Just, you know, maybe one day it's going to be humans versus robots and we'll see who wins. That's all I'm going to say, you know. Didn't work out great in the movies. No, it just, just the rowing it out there didn't work out for us. Hopefully it turns out a little bit better because we want to see things Victor Wombonjama

23:55can do. So that said that mine. I said, all right, chat GPT. I know when your demise is coming, you already know that. I want to see how much you know about Victor Wombonjama. So I asked, I said, okay, give me the projection as to what you see the rest of the way going. My pal chat was a very, very precise about this because in what he calls or she, I'm not sure, the ascent ages 22 to 25, you have the first MVP probably within the next one to three seasons could potentially average 30 points a night. And he says, I would not be surprised if I won two to three defensive player of the years or Victor did. And he is predicting a championship this season. Now the dynasty window. I'm going out on a limb. Yeah, I was like, all right, chat. Mr. Chat. You said, this is chat. Whatever you are. Now, I was more so impressed with the way he categorizes ages 25 to 30, the dynasty window,

25:01which the spurs have a five to seven window of contention that they will win two to four championships. So at the end of it all, when it's all set and done by the time he hits age 34, the veteran evolution, he's throwing in one more. The final consensus, realistic. This is his realistic one. 12 to 15 all star selections, 12 to 10 all NBA selections, 4 to 6 DPO wise, 2 to 3 MVP's, 2 to 4 titles over 30,000 points, 12,000 bars, 4,000 blocks, top five to 10. That's the modest one. The egregious one is that he wins the next three. I said, okay, chat, dial it back a little bit, buddy. You got it. Dial it back. That one made me feel like, all right, maybe the human's got a couple like two years, man. We made it at the 2032. I need to reaction. Or not. It's not the craziest thing I've ever heard. Or not. Or not.

26:01I mean, I need a little bit more to be sold on three in a row. I need your guys to react before we move on here because he's got some better ones. Oh, there's more. There's more. There's more. There's more. I didn't come in here with one idea. I came in here with several Matthews. Okay. Well, you know, I think that the general topic or at least like the, I guess, conservative view is probably a pretty good one. I'm with you. Like, you're going to win the next three. Like, that's a lot. Historically, just speaking in the NBA, winning back to back to back is an incredibly difficult thing to do. And I think that today's NBA is about as talented as we've ever seen the league. So going to be tough. You're not just that, but you're talking about the physical demand on the players with the game that is being played at a faster pace and more.

27:08If you want to look at it this way, Miles traveled per game, like speed on average per game. It's never been more demanding from just an athleticism standpoint. So expecting everyone to just stay healthy the whole time. And especially because we have seen kind of what happens with, oh, man, I feel it feels dirty for me to even start talking about this. But we've seen like what happens with dudes that are as big as Victor is. And like we've, so we have, we have to be proven other. It has to be proven otherwise that this guy is going to be able to handle and withstand year after year after year of these runs that are incredibly demanding. Like we've, we've, we've looked at the fact that like this guy played 30 minutes of game during the regular season.

28:09And suddenly you're pushing 100 games and those final 25 or whatever you are damn excuse me playing 40 minutes a night, basically. It's a lot. It's a lot. So I do think that the general, the more conservative viewpoint that your friend misses, misses chat, Mr. Chat, they chat, however you want to have however you want to say it like, them, them chat, like it's, you know, I'm not putting any sexual identity on these all right. Stop, stop. We got, but like we're, we're, we're looking at a situation. I'm interrupting that the ship we're, we're not, I'm trying to train back on track. We're good. We're good. We're good. So I'm going to look at it.

29:09I'm going to look at it individually, right? So you know, you talk about three straight MVP's. There's a big problem there. He's going to be playing against GAs, one, two in a row, and he's going to continue to grow in his thing. Then he's talking about defensive player of the year. And right now where Victor is, you didn't have to look too far in the locker room that he's in, Rudy, go there. He's still going to be playing. And he's, you know, going to have to play defense in the next few years because you see the roster that they're putting together. None of those guards play defense. I don't care what, I don't care what you say about Lamar. Lamar and Anthony Edward. None of those guys play defense. Lamar and Lamar, you know who I'm talking about. So when you look at that, so are you just combining the first names with their last names? That's all they're all family members. When you think about just those two alone and then to go to what Matt said, you know, nowadays

30:10you're, when you're making deep runs like that to the finals, you're adding almost 30 games. And that's a lot of minutes. And you know that San Antonio is not, if they don't have to, they are not going to have Victor out there playing night in, night out, every trying to chase down records in this and that. We already know San Antonio is not going to do that. They've never been built like that. So when you look at that and you look at what that would do to Victor's body, not to mention the international basketball, it's just something that, you know, it's cool to hear. I know we're going to keep going. It's cool to hear. But man, that's a lot, not only for the player, like Matt said, but just for the team, for his friends team, for the friends team. It's a lot. It's just a lot in general. Right. Yeah. We're not even talking about, you know, feeble world cup basketball. We're not even talking about Olympic basketball. Like we're talking about all of this stuff. It's demanding for sure. All right.

31:11I felt like stirring things up a little bit more. So I said, my next prompt, do you think Dylan Harper will hit an impasse with the spurs in a similar fashion to James Harden with Oklahoma City? To which chat said, yes, I think the hard and OKC comparison is legitimate, but I don't think it's the most likely outcome. He then went in depth like chat is known to do that that's that's chats think, you know, as we've learned, as you saw, very deep analytical breakdown season by season, how things went. And I just kind of wanted him to narrow it down to a percentage that said chat. Thank you. I appreciate that. Thank you. But give me a percent chance at robot. Thank you. Thank you robot. And you better be worried now. You're worried about humanity surviving and you're out here thanking the robot. Like come on. Matthew, I didn't actually thank the robot. But being when I got to the end of the conversation, I said, OK, give me a percentage. He said, I put the probability of a genuine Harper wants out situation at only 20 to 25%

32:19right now. Hmm. It's chat feeling a little bit spicy. You tell me who goes first. I'll just say I think that's way too spicy. I don't think he's going anywhere. I don't think it's a James Harden situation because to be fair, that was by I didn't, this is on me. That was by 2030, not this season by 2030. Oh, then even even more so probably know. I think by then he's going to be established as like this is your number two. Like this is Wendy's running mate. And I don't think that there is going to be a scenario in any situation, no matter whether it's in San Antonio or elsewhere, where anyone thinks that they are a more impactful player

33:19than Victor, like whether they should be the guy or anything like that. I also don't think that there is going to be a scenario in which players don't believe that they are flat out better playing next to that guy. And I think that is more important than anything. One year covering Dylan Harper. So you know, take that for what it's worth, but that dude does not seem like someone who is just after his own stuff. Like I think that he is someone who respects the game, respects like winning just in general wants to win. And so when you put all those things together, I think that he's first of all wise beyond his years. And I also just think that like that is a player who knows like I want to be right next to that guy, that seven foot six extra terrestrial.

34:19I want to be next to him for as much of my career as I possibly can be. I think that's real. And I think the spurs, I think he will figure out a way to be paid. And the spurs are going to figure out how to pay him not too worried about that. But that to me is sort of the last, I've talked to people in that room, man. They're like that guy's not going anywhere. Like are you kidding me? Like no, that guy is a superstar and he is going to be in San Antonio for a long time. Yeah. You know, when you look at the comparison itself, as far as the six man that, you know, makes a huge impact on the game, but that's where it stops. When you talk about what James did when he left and the points per game going up and the sheer 30, 40, 50 that he was putting up night in, night out. I don't know if, I mean, Dylan is a good player, but not what James did for seven or eight

35:24years. So, you know, to James's credit, he just took off in a whole nother deal. But yeah, when you talk about, you know, that six man impact, and like Matt said, you don't have to worry about, you know, Dylan going, you know, anywhere because the contract by the time he comes up, there's somebody, I, you know, I forget his name because we got these takes coming up. Number four, that contract's going to be up. And so it's going to work out. So you don't have to worry about that too much case. I'm actually really, I'm glad that Devon just brought up something that I don't think enough people have enough respect for just simply because of the narrative around that dude. James Harden is like a top 50. I know he's already in the top 75, but I'm going way higher than that. That dude is, I know he's had his playoff struggles, stuff like that.

36:26There is a long way to go before Dylan Harper gets to James Harden conversations. Like people don't give that guy enough credit for how good he was in his prime and still is frankly. Like, so if if if Dylan Harper becomes James Harden, he's kidding me. Right. Are you kidding me? No, no, Steph D. No, no, no, no, no, no. All right. Well, in the spirit of a lefties who make a lot of money, there's another one on the Senate, Antonio Spurs. And I asked chat, I said, hey, chat, where will Dehren Fox be this time next season? And he said, I think Dehren Fox is still a spur one year from now, but I think the odds of him being there two years from now are considerably lower.

37:28My prediction for September 20, 27, 70% still a spur, 20% traded during the 26, 27 season, 10% traded during the 20, 27 off season. I, this is chat, I guess to a lesser extent, me says, I actually think Fox has a really good 26, 27 season. So I don't think the Spurs trade them because he's washed. I think they potentially trade them because Harper becomes too good. And that was pretty much the juiciest part of it. He's 28 years old. He's not washed. What are we talking about? Didn't chat didn't say he was washed. He was agreeing with you. Chat was agreeing with you. Yeah, when it comes to, you know, Dehren, it's, it's got to be this year, right? It's got to be this year where you're okay, you're comfortable. You're coming off of a finals that, you know, wasn't up to his standard. Spurs probably would like to see him do a lot better.

38:31The 29 point situation, not all on him. The layup when you could have just went to the free throw line, that was on him. So when you talk about some of the things that went on last year and a lot of the criticism that he's still taking, yeah, it needs to be a big season for him. Now when you talk about the trade during, during next season, yeah, that's tough. Yeah, because the spurs aren't going to, I don't think they're going to be in a situation where they're going to have a tough, you know, record right off the bat and have to make a quick decision like that. But the season after that, I would give it, I wouldn't go 10%, I'd probably go 12 or 13%, but that's just me. I got another going on the limter. What they're going on the limter, seeing all the stuff we know. Hey, I got a question. I'm going to live with them. I got a question for Mr. and Mrs. Chat. I got a question for both y'all actually.

39:34I am of the opinion that if there is a higher likelihood, in my opinion, there is a higher likelihood that Deerren Fox is dealt next off season. He's not going to be dealt during the season. Don't even, nobody, no one even think of that. It's not happening. I'll put all, I don't know, a couple hundred bucks that I have to my name on that. But don't because if you lose, you're not living in my house. We about to be neighbors too. You don't have to deal with that. I swear. I'll figure out a way to make things, make ends meet. But I think that there is actually a greater chance of Deerren Fox being moved if the Spurs went into title this next year. They get the title out of the way. They say, okay, we accomplished what we wanted. It's time to expedite things and move because they're going to have to move at some point.

40:40So my question to y'all, and I think this is right, I think it's probably more likely that if they win the title this next year, that Deerren is moved at that point. Do you agree with me? I agree because if they win the title, that means he would have had to play really well in all likelihood. And that maximizes the trade value infinitely. Then maybe this is a question. Like, certainly not, you know, singling anyone out here. But like Devin, you've been in that building. Do you think that there is an element to them that's like, we want to get one for that guy. We believe in him. We made a, we paid a price for him. We want to see this done in sort of the vision that we had. Like is there anything when, if you're talking about that equation in its entirety where

41:45they're looking at this and thinking to themselves, like, let's get that done and then get over it, right? Like, like move on and get past it. Yeah. So, yeah. So when you think about everything that the Spurs did for Tony, Monu and Timmy, right, everything that they did, they gave them everything, every opportunity to win, right? Right. Okay. But when I look at it, when you talk about Deerren Fox, like you can go just go Fox, Wimbee, Harper, whatever, just sort of the sake of what you're saying. Yeah. So, they've done everything right now and they're in the middle of doing everything right now to have them win. But the problem is, is that you got other pieces around there that are like really, really good. So, Fox himself needs to play up to the contract and push the Spurs towards giving him

42:46more time. Yeah. So, you're kind of pushing Deerren to be pushing to a box to play a certain way and the Spurs are being pushed in because of his contract. So, you're saying when he's on a timer? Yeah. So, yes, on both senses of that because he's got to live up to it. You know, because if you look around and you go, you can go one up or you go one down to the guys that are around him getting paid and guess who's around there and Casey knows who is. Steph Curry's right around there. So, when you see Steph play and then you see Deerren play, you're going, hold on, this doesn't, like as a fan, you go, this doesn't make sense because Steph is over there almost pushing 40, but he'll give you 40. He will. He'll give you 50 if he's playing in San Antonio. Yeah, you'll be 50. You're over here playing, you know, Deerren's 28 and you're like, yo, what's up with bro? What's up with bro? Yeah. So Deerren's got to, he's got to do a better job next year of playing up to that.

43:51And sometimes, and I told you guys this, sometimes when you're coming up the court, you got to go, fellas, I see y'all, but not on this possession. I got to get my own. Let me go. I got you because you're not going to get in trouble. Yeah. Now, Devon with the 0405 spurs, I used to do that. Okay. I got in trouble. Matt Casey, I got in trouble. You got, I've heard, I've heard the story. I got to. I've heard the story. You told me all the time. Yeah. What the hell you do? How did they, how did they say what the hell? Did he say what the hell? Yeah, he said what the hell you doing? I was like, I don't know. I said, I said, I'm not. I mean, I could probably say something to my bad, my bad, my bad. Well, chat GPT. There were a couple ones that, yeah, I wanted to get to Devon because it plays into this. There was a couple of throwaways. I didn't think there were two crazy. He had them winning over the nicks in the finals. Okay, fine. A lot of people do. Then I asked, tell me about Devon Brown, basketball player. He said a whole bunch of really great things.

44:51Talked about all the things you do. He talked about the program and how you offer a nice color analysis both this and your UTSA work. And then he talked about your story. And the notable part is I read to you such. So his story is basically the quintessential San Antonio basketball story. Little kid, high school star, UTSA legend, undrafted, almost takes an HEB job. Pop discovers him. NBA player, Spurs champion, San Antonio sports hall of favor. And there's a nice connection to what we were talking about earlier, whatever chat and I were talking about earlier. Brown knows firsthand what it means to go from being a young local player to playing for the Spurs and learning inside that organization. That's a pretty valuable perspective on the current Wembee era. Yeah. Yeah. There's a lot of things and I like that. You're scaring me with that with that chat. GPT. Can you see why I open them and you got you got you got you got you got you got you. Right now. Right now. If you're not, you know, you know, you know, you can you see why open the show away.

45:52You want a Casey, but I'm looking also like what's going on? And my blood. Dersen. But yeah. Yeah. Um, what I wanted to say is and and and Matt, you might be hearing this for the first time, but I told Casey, you know, when we started doing this, uh, and I'm watching the games, um, I can be 5,000 miles away or I can be right there inside the locker room. There's a lot of things that go on in that locker room that I see on the court, uh, that whether it's the 2026 or it's 2004. And that's what I've always appreciated about San Antonio. Yeah. That's why I appreciate about the style they play and the things that they do. And that's that's what I'm hoping to bring as the inside for for everybody is, man, I'll tell you what, I'll get in there and I'll see Mitch, you know, make a face. And I'm like, oh, I know what he's going to say. Yeah. And I'll just leave it at that. Well, that's what I brought. That's why I brought it up at the top that like one of my biggest takeaways from this

46:55off season is it felt like the old school spurs. Like it felt like like they're sticking together. Like they believe in this, uh, not not just the program, obviously, but like they believe in the people that they've already brought in. And so they're just looking at, they're not looking to replace. Right. And that just feels. And it's good because I've been on both both sides of that, you know, with San Antonio, you get that stability, you get that egg, you know what? I pop, you know, and when pop's telling you and pop, you know, had the GM title and the head coach, when he's telling you, that means that's what he's telling you. Hey, I believe in you guys. We're going to give this another run. Let's go. Hey, I don't need to hear from any agents you guys in. Yes or no, everybody. Yes. Boom. We move on. Yeah. Now, I've been on the side where they'll come in New Orleans. They'll come in and say, hey, listen, we're only 13 games back.

47:56We have 18 to play. But we believe in you guys. Next thing you know, you walk into locker room and you're like, hey, how you doing, Denver Brown? What's your name? Oh, okay. And you got this whole new locker room. Oh, you're on a 10 day. Oh, you're trying to figure this thing out. Yeah. And so you're like, wow, so I've seen both sides of it when it comes to the business of it. And so when you have a team like San Antonio that believes in their guys, gives their guys a second chance. I'll tell you what, there's a lot of NBA teams just because it Fox. There's a lot of NBA teams that the year last year, the year that he had, he would have been somewhere else. San Antonio believes in what he can do. And at the end of the day, he's going to pick it up. He knows what he can do. And next year he'll show that. I think that plays pretty well into what we got coming up on the other side of the break because hot takes and we had a lot of them at least not in surrounding deer and fox

48:58and other ones on top of that. Now that the new season's almost here, going to look back on our best and our worst takes that we had during the regular season. And I will be the first to tell you, I thought my good take was really good. My bad take was really bad. So I'll just go out there and I'll say that I got right that I said at length many of times that if the spurs lose in the playoffs, the air in box is going to get scapegoated. I nailed that one. Boom. 100%. No problem waving that back. Right. I could not have nailed that one any better. The other one that I got. I'm looking for I'm looking for like an electrical. Oh, I got this USB cord here. It's like about the size of the limb that that you went out on with that one. No, but this was no, no, no, no, no, no, but this was before you were this was like December. Okay. I first.

53:04Okay. After. No. Yeah. I think he had that disaster stretch in the second golden state game on national TV. Yes, that was all the way back in November. So yeah, that's that's. It's take. You can take your limb and throw it out the window. Something that I said amid this time, factor in a victor injury in a real big rookie wall that Dylan Harper just drove that car into. I was saying this if the Milwaukee bucks say, hey, we want one. Dylan Harper or Stefan Castle and we will give you Yannis on to the coupon. That's it. It's all it takes. I'm like, fly Dylan to the airport, man. Yannis here. Yeah. We'll see you there. That did not work out very well. No, if they probably made that trade, they would probably have won the finals this year. That's not a year or there. That's not even like that terrible take on my it. But it's not that.

54:04I mean, like, Yannis on to the CUMBO is incredible. Like the Hall of Famer, you know, but it's tough. Yeah, that's that's a tough one for sure. It's a tough one. Yeah. Well, I'll go ahead and jump in here. One of mine was probably about a month, well, two months ago, maybe. I saw France's team in their little preseason for FIFA and Wimby was that Louis Vuitton fashion show or something. And I wondered what was going on. Was there some friction there between the two and that was terrible because he just wasn't ready yet. And now he's playing with them. So that was what a mine. But the rest of them, I don't remember. Now my best takes, there's about 100,000 of those. Yeah, right. We don't have time for that. I'll tell you what, you were right there waving that flag to get Dylan Harper and Milwaukee right along with me. So you're in that. For Yannis?

55:05Yes. Yeah. You and I were standing right there at the airport. I was sitting in the moving company over there. I know some people. Yeah, we were getting him on out of here. So that applies for you too. Okay. Well, there's two of them. All right. Okay. Go ahead. I think that my worst take and just simply because like they had built up, I going into the postseason. I think I even said it on this show. There were two teams that I felt were the worst matchups for the Spurs and that was Minnesota and New York. I saw them just run through Minnesota. Minnesota was banged up. So it's kind of one of those things where you're like, eh, that there wasn't a really a fair testing ground for that. But I felt like because of everything that San Antonio had accomplished in the postseason, that they were going to get past what I felt was a New York bug-a-boo and straight up

56:13wrong. I mean, and I thought that as the series went along as they played more games that they would get past the late game stuff like the Spurs had figured out all year how to build upon like their mistakes. And I was really confident that they were going to be able to do that. And it just, every, every fourth quarter just dissipated, just fell apart. So that would definitely like by far be my worst take on the season is that eventually I thought that they would figure out the nicks and they were just flatly outmatched. My best take was I wanted to wait. It took me a while. But after that stretch around Christmas of the Spurs just dismantling Oklahoma City, I was

57:14like, oh, no, no, no, this is a like real title contender. Now, and specifically, because one of the things that I have noticed in this matchup is that San Antonio's guards on the whole are too much for Oklahoma City's guards, just because that's how Oklahoma City wants to attack you. It's just wave after wave after wave of guard action. And if you have these three dudes who can combat that and like deal with the adversity that they cause you defensively, then Oklahoma City is sort of neutralized in how they want to attack you. And I know that there were injuries and stuff like that. So it's not the cleanest of predictions. Like what happens if Jalen Williams is playing?

58:14What happens if AJ Mitchell doesn't get hurt? Who knows? But I think that that was probably the best one that I had. I'm not a big prediction maker. I'm not a big hot take maker. I'm more of a analyze the situation and tell you what's going on. Type of thing. But I think that there came a point where I went sort of beyond what I typically do. And I said, I think that this is the best team in the Western Conference. That ended up being true. I guess injuries happen. Whatever. And only play who's in front of you, man. You can only play who's in front of you. That's right. Yep. All right. Almost time for us to get out of here. We got to time. Yeah. One more break. 1:00:21and San Antonio. He says, as a fellow fellow road runner alumni, I would like to know what was the most difficult part for Devon in the transition from college to the MBA? How did life change? So that puts a lot more time on your hand and being able to get away when we hit it hard with the spurs for three or four straight days. So what was getting out of the bubble for me was going and playing golf, whether it be lock and terror, silver or in quarry, wherever it was, and just relaxing, family, friends,

1:01:26things like that, and just trying to enjoy the ride. The biggest thing that people get in trouble is that time management. Just because now, basketball is just not a sport anymore. It's your job. So the more serious you take it, the more years you play. I have a question. Part from the sort of the go to is the standards. Like you talked about the Corey, lock and terror, TPC. What I'll even put Breckenridge in there. Breckenridge, because I think that's a pretty well known, like it's right in the middle of town. So like people play there. What's the best sort of low key hidden course that you've been on? Yeah, hidden gem. Valored. 281 right before you get into Blanco right there on the right hand side.

1:02:27You go in those gates and it's just having a nice little tight course. They're building a lot more homes out there. And so it's really narrowed that course. So you can't go out there spraying it left and right, which I tend to do when I get angry. Yeah, it's a problem. And so it's going to force you and I think this is where you're going with the question. It's going to force you not on those short part fours. You got to pull out a hybrid or you got to pull out an iron. So you got it. You got to put the ego aside and put the driver down. I'm six five, six five and six five for a long time. This ego is huge. So sometimes I'm like, ah, and it's a, hey, hey, and is this easy casing drop two, hit three. You said that's a valid that was valid. Valorant, yeah, valid creek up there to anyone north. Those guys do a great job of keeping that course in great shape.

1:03:27We go out there every December. Have a little I got a guy about we got about 32 of us go out there every December. And we call it guy shopping day. We've done that for 10 years now. That's a whole damn tournament. 32. Oh, yeah, four four days of golf. Everybody knows you don't want me to coach and do all that. There's no coach in the first weekend of December. Devon is out. Well, I'm a golf man. Yeah, right. All I'm going to say is that when we meet again next week, both of you guys, your hats better say valid and not what they say right now. Eight thousand dollars. They don't know me anything. I don't know about that. Oh, no, we just gave them a solid two minutes to close the show. So that's what I'm saying.
