Starmer & Reeves: Cost-of-Living Battles & Iran Conflict

On April 1st, Prime Minister Keir Starmer is holding a press conference at 10 a.m. today

in Downing Street. He'll cover the Iran conflict and have the government's helping folks back

home with rising costs. It's the start of the new financial year in April and labor is pushing

their support measures hard. Meanwhile, Chancellor Rachel Reeves is out there clarifying her plans.

She's ruled out broad help for everyone on energy bills. Instead, she's eyeing targeted aid

for lower income families and pensioners, holding off until autumn when heating demand ramps up.

Reeves explained on BBC Breakfast that gas use drops way low from July through September.

She's drawing lessons from the old conservative handouts after Russia's Ukraine invasion,

where the richest third of homes snagged over a third of the cash that didn't sit right.

The opposition's firing back. Conservatives claim Starmer and Reeves have jacked up costs,

leaving families about 1,000 pounds worse off this year.
