One of the most significant pieces of advice I picked up when I first started my business was this - stay in your lane.
Staying in your lane basically means to focus on what you are doing; that the lane you are in, is the lane you are in.
The lane somebody else is in, is the lane they are in.
Our job is to know our own lane and not to drift into each others' lanes.
We can run alongside each other, inspire each other, challenge each other, lift and support each other.
But my race is my race, and your race is your race.
We each bring our own set of what makes each of us, us, to our own race.
We cannot BE each other.
Similarly, looking at what someone else is doing and being jealous or envious of them, mad at them, comparing yourself in a positive or negative light.
It actually has no bearing at all on your race and the lane you are in.
When you are looking around you, beside you, behind you all the time. All it does is stop you moving forward. When we know our lane, and stay in it, we can focus on being the best we can possibly be, and bringing the best of ourselves to our own race, without losing ourselves and wasting our time and energy to a lane we don't belong to.
