2:03So let's start what got you in to rap. And I heard a story. Okay. That when you were five years old, yeah, uh, I guess in school, everybody said what they want to be. And kids were like police officers and firemen. And you said you wanted to be worthy like low-wing. I don't know when you heard. Is that true? I'm gonna say five that's a lot of work. No, no. What the hell told you? That's a crazy story. Stop. Don't be that story. That's a totally pop. Like all the problems. I said, tell me some questions. Maybe, maybe, maybe, I don't know. Maybe he remembers better than I do. But really, it's from the upbringing for real. Like, as you know, pops, it's just like a behind the scenes guy in the industry and just coming up and being privy to what the lifestyle was. For me, that was the eye opener. It's like, I know y'all got some money. And it's from this thing. And who doesn't like music. So it's just like, I'm around it all the time. And I always express myself through art. Like I hated sports. I wasn't trying to be a firefighter or a police officer. I'm not doing that. Like, rat, I always been go words. And I just took it there and I kept going.

3:03Now. When you call a project boss not dead, are you defending lyricism? Are you challenging the people who keep saying this generation don't care about lyrics anymore? I think it's just a bit of both. I'm defending it because I like the rap a lot. It gets frowned upon sometimes, especially now. She's never gonna hear all that rap-y rap-y. Why do people say that? I don't know. When everybody to me, I don't know. I look at the last 15 years, the guys who really thrived are rap-y rappers, the Kendrick of the rap-y rap-y. The legacy-ex. It's just like, they're a lot more booked than the newcomers. That's right. Because of what they did. The cold is like, rap-y rapper. Cold is a rap-y rapper. Yeah. His shows look crazy every night. Yeah. So it's just like, I don't know. But it's a little bit of both. It's like, I want y'all to stop saying this thing. And then I'm challenging everything else at the same time. But you came up in the era where, I hate to say the rap-y rap, but the rap-y rap wasn't necessarily as big as some of the other stuff that came out. This is the thing too, because it wasn't,

4:04but at the same time, we had it. And it still was like something that people looked to. I had a argument with one of my peers. And he was just like, oh, seven. Lafay Taffy was number one. I'm just like, but Tia was still. Yeah. Little Lane had just gone into the card of three. Like, it was balanced. Now it's just like there's no balance. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. I was still out. I was like, how was the person you was going back up with? We the same age. So, oh, seven. I'm 29. Oh, seven, I was what, 10. Because I feel like it's a taste level. Like, there are people that are probably were listening to Lafay Taffy that weren't listening to like, if you did hear Tia, I was like, you at the skate and ring. But I was like, oh, no. But I'm not going to lie. Tia was like, yeah, 100%. Kanye West graduation. What I know is that. It's a great thing. And that's it. It is. But that's what that's my whole. The whole. I'm not everybody listening to loop a fiasco. And a lot of people that were listening to Kanye West and were listening to like a Lafay Taffy. There's a lot of a little synergy there. But a lot of people, if you if somebody said that you

5:05pointed to Lafay Taffy first, that's a whole different. Like, not you. The person I was talking to is a rapper rapper. Oh, wow. Exactly. Case in point. It's just like, I don't we. OK, let's just bring it back to a space in place where everything can go can coexist. I'm not trying to say like, nah, this over for that. Who am I to dictate that? It's just like, let's not shy away from this thing as well. Because this is how we got it. And what got you? What got you into to rap? Because you got your degree from Hampton. And what was your major business management? To be honest, I went to school because it just seemed like the right thing. I'm not even going to lie to you. I'm like, if I could have went to school for the hip hop. I don't want to go to school for him. So you knew this is what you wanted to do. Yeah, I've never had a job. Like, this is just my only thing. I, this crazy because I asked my pops for a job going somewhere like, he had reopened world on wheels and LA. I just wanted to make some braids. I used to go there. Yeah. And I was just like, yo, I just need a job. Like, he's like, you got a job. Keep doing it. I was like, wow. All right. Wow.

6:05That's great. Yeah, we're all right. That's just what you're doing to kids. Like, you know, just like, you know, I do this. You got a job. You figure out how to make some money. You do it the right way. Now we're speaking to your pops and, and I, I think you can't rule. I was saying, yeah, I'm saying I'm talking through like, who is that? It was the guy that's the BK rule. Of course, one of Biggie's best friends. I'm a pseudo-napper, baby. That's right. And it's nothing wrong with that at all. No, I'm not. I used to look at it like, no, I don't want. No, now it's just like, yeah. Yeah. He was the first person to play me a wreck. I am who I am. No, I'm a good guy. You see, I'm saying. But also, I feel like you, like, when you say you're a pseudo-napper, baby, it's like, but I know because of the type of cloth that means you came from that. Like, you still worked. Like, you said to work for something. No, you know how to fight. I worked for everything. You know how to fight. I worked for everything. Yeah, like, that's what a lot of people get confused. Like, I can speak for myself. I worked for everything. But that's also how I was brought up. It's like, I'm also a person. I don't like things handed to me. Mm-hmm. It's naturally. I don't want you to just come with your hand out. Like, oh, yeah, here's this thing. Go do it because it's just like people can tell.

7:07I don't even know who this kid is, where he came from. At least now, I got a little bit of a history. People can go back and be like, oh, he's been doing this for a little minute. And it's just now finally clicking with people with it takes a long time. That's what I've said. I didn't know Rubin's your pop. Yeah, you know what I mean? I had heard your music before, but over the holidays, Nala was just letting me hear. And like, Shalameh was not a fan in the beginning. No, no. Shalameh, Shalameh, Shalameh, Shalameh. They're not going to have an experience with me. No, I think Nala might have played the last tape. And he was just like, huh? It is what it is. But you got to admit you stepped up, Larry. No, one. I was like, you was making records that you thought were going to be that radio. I did it in the air. I did do a lot of conforming. You were doing it on your pen. I did a lot of that. He is just like, I've completely stepped out of it. That whole person that was doing that is, I didn't know. I don't even know. But the first time I think Nala played it was, it was May 2025, right? You know, remember listening to it. I remember hearing I was like, this kid is dope. And that's when your pop singer is like, you know what, that's my son has to kid I've been telling you. That's what they were playing with you.

8:07That was when he was with me. But I was lyrical. Did your dad want you in the industry seeing that everything he's seen through biggie and bad boy? Did he want you in the industry? He never told me he didn't. More than anything, he just like, this is what you asked for. Like when I call him, I'm cooked. I've been out five days. He's like, and like, yeah, you're going to be out a lot more days. You keep doing what you're doing. So my mom's was more so like, oh, you don't want to, you don't want to go get a job. I was getting a job. You tripping. I got no. I'm sorry. I don't knock nobody that has a job. I just I'm not doing it. What's in your path? Yeah, I just dream. Yeah, like I got to do it. But pops was always like, I see it. Like you can do this. Keep doing it. Let's go. What do you tell you the most difficult thing was? And the reason I asked is he's seen big when nobody believed and big had to go to rounds of wrapping outside and freestyle and to the world court. So what was his advice to you? Just keep the most cliche advice. It's just like keep doing it. Because you exactly like you see it all. You see from one day it's just like your man's it's just a hustler on the corner.

9:09And then he's the biggest thing in the world before he passes away. And then when he passes away, he's even bigger. It's just like I seen this from my own two eyes. You can you can definitely do this. Like you just keep doing what you got to do. So I'm just here doing what I got to do to the best of my abilities. It's always been Jay-Z for me since I was a kid. I didn't like Nas. Damn, tell him how you feel. Yeah, that's how bias I was. Jay-Z was just like his days the guy. But getting old, it's like, see, Kendrick and Cole. Kendrick is somebody that I feel like never conform to nothing. And he figured it out.

12:16It's mad people that don't like Kendrick. Even before the Drake beef. It's like, we don't want to listen to that. There's too many words. I don't know what he's talking about. I don't know how to pin for butterfly. I don't get it. Whatever the kids may be. And it's just like, look at him. Why not? Just do what you got to do. Because everybody that's super successful, even though the legacy acts I was just talking to him. I was like, they all did, they earned things. And that's why they're still here. 50 years old selling out of stadiums. We got four or five of us my age. That could do that right now. What made you believe it? What was the moment that you said this could really happen? What was that moment? You know what I know? It was crazy. I dropped my first song on all the DSPs. In 2018, right? About a third song, I went viral. I dropped the song called The West, where King Cones, L3Greeduh, that went up. That was like it. Because after that, I got a feature from Chris Brown, just because he liked the song. So just out of GP, he just said. You feel me just being around the right people? They're playing my music. I was in Hampton stress. Just like, oh my gosh.

13:18My man Ralph calling me like, yo CB, he did what's to get on this song. I'm like, stop calling me about this. Do it. I'm not going to say no. I don't want Chris Brown feature. And it just kept going from there. I got to push a T feature after that. But this is all out of the respect of how I'm operating in this space. Okay, this kid is actually nice. Yeah, we do know who he is, but that's not everything. That's just extras. So for me, it's just like, it's always been little points that I made that just shows me like, I, you got something. If you keep doing what you're supposed to do, whatever's supposed to happen, and click is going to click and you'll be straight. When Chris Brown, who from Chris Brown's can't call you? Somebody call you at the day call you. My man Ralph is actually from my camp, but he on some just LA hanging around. He got cool with CB. So he started hanging with CB's camp. He's playing the music. You tell me he playing the back home stuff and CB is just like, yo, I already know this. Like, I know him. I know his pops. I know the whole crew. I like this song. I'm in CB's one of those people.

14:19If he likes, so he's, he will get on your song. He did it. And maybe in the school, he's like, yo, let's shoot the video next week. I'm like, uh, bro, like, I got class tomorrow. I asked them all. And business and business and every turns, you got to wear the pseudo on the top. I got class. Then I look, I'll now look back like them. I should have left. I swear, that wasn't a video. I was following the rules so much. No, there was no video. I thought that that was something. You bugged. But I just said, yo, I tweaked. Like you could have said you was saying, I could have been embarrassing. You could have missed the day. I could have did anything. Yeah, but what was like at that point, it's like, you knew you had something, but you didn't know that you had something enough where you was like, I gotta go shoot the video. Now, let me tell you what it was. I was about to graduate. Okay. I'm so close. I'm just like, if I leave now, I'm never coming back. I think I respect that. I get you. That's what I was that that was my logic behind the rules. I'm like, if I leave, no, let me tell you something. If I left for that day, I was never coming back to school. Gotcha. You want to go back and it's just like, I've already wasted this much money and time.

15:22I barely wanted to be here. I'll be damned if I don't finish it. I'm right here. I respect that. You know what I mean? So I just like, that's, that's, it was like a, it wasn't a dream deferred, but it was kind of a dream deferred because once we put it out, it was just like, well, that's that. Did you understand because you was on a college campus and it can be like such a bubble? Did you understand of our reality other song? Like, did you fill it? I dropped the song with CB during COVID. So no. Okay. Cause I remember that that was a for, I didn't, it's crazy because I, that song they would play it a lot in, I was living in LA at the time. I dropped it. The text song or the West, no, the West. Oh, no, that's so. Okay. I, I, yeah, I experienced that by the way. That's that was my first time here. But I didn't know you were the same person when I started talking about this. How crazy it was, right? The song was so much bigger than me. And I was in school. I wasn't about to graduate. This is like prime time school. I would escape every other weekend or so. The song was so much bigger than me. They were performing at live in my, my man's V used to be my manager. He's my, my like one of my best friends. He would perform for me. Cause nobody knew what I looked like. That's crazy. So the people that I'm going to school with,

16:23they know it's my song. Cause I go to school with y'all. But outside of the world, like I would be just outside and people are listening to the song. I mean, we would be a hookah bars, everything that someone was going to crazy. He didn't start recognizing what I looked like until this year. Wow. So what got you to, to, to, to draw in the generation now? Because they are a Southern label. Yeah. You are East Coast rapper. Yeah. What I mean? I'm on my, so now, no, look, I ended up, and after, after I graduated, I was like, I don't really know what else I can do in New York. I was born and raised here. It's time for me to spread my wings and fly. Atlanta was like the next best thing. I moved to Atlanta, December 20th, 2019. I could you not, I had a soda shot, SOBs. Then I drove down to Atlanta, started working, getting, you know, the studio in Atlanta is like the stoop in New York. Everybody's, everybody's in politics. Anybody had any studio? I'm talking about wings, everything. Literally. So I'm, you know, me and my manager, we just juggling around. Atlanta, we finding studios to record in for free, just building, doing all that. And by, I say, 2022, one of my uncles moved around with Lakin,

17:27a lot, he was just like, yo, I know y'all looking for a, like a real rapper. I got to check out, like, I got to check out, and even my pops would double down like, yo, 2022, right? And Jack Hall, Lordy was looking for a real rapper. Yo, you're not. No, no no no. And Lakers, like, Dan, don't put me in this like. Like, no, yeah, Lakers here right away. Lakers. Lakers told me to come to the office. And this is how I knew I was, I was going to Jenna, I went to the office, I played 15 songs. If you've ever been to a label meeting, guys, They'll never let you play more than three. Ever. You never get more than three. I play 15 and they just locked in like, well, okay. And then after the last song was done, the link was like, yeah, I want to send you. I started recording and he was like, the last person you got to get to is Canon. Canon is a tough critic. He doesn't like anything.

18:27If he likes you, we're good. Canon came to studio one day and was like, yo, what up here? It's a beat. He gave me a beat. It was like a rendition of a song. I might have did the whole song in 20 minutes. He was like, oh, no. What the craziest thing is, two years, a year before that, I had DM Canon like, yo, I got a son. He opened the DM thing. He was like, it's trash. Hey, it's a special, man. He's laughing. This is tough. It's a terrible night. It is. It is. Cause I ain't gonna laugh. Did you tell him that during that? Yeah, if he was here, he'd be like, yeah, I did. You wouldn't have wanted what you were doing then to be like, I think where you are right now and how it's happening is like, this is you. Yeah, exactly. Crazy putting you with that song, those other songs. So you really got like a whole different person there. Man, because what is something that Canon or Lake or drama corrected in you that initially irritated you? But you, but you realize like Danny, right? Why the hell is Lake Lafayst? I must have been more. I said, have you run away? I said, have you run away? A lot of, cause he met the the the timid soul. The one that's like, I don't want to do nothing.

19:28I don't you feel me so a lot of that. I feel like the grand scheme is artist development. I really wasn't a firm. I didn't think it existed. But being with them, it's just like, okay, I could still be developed. Like I even thought I was at that. When I dropped the oil and records, I'm like, I don't need no coaching or nothing. Like, I've been here before. It's like, no, you have not. It's a lost art. It's a lost art. You, you have not been here. But that's what I think generation now does so well. Yeah. What that other label's don't do. Like you can see the work they put in the ooze. You can see the work they put in the whole. You can see the work that they put in artists that most people won't do. I think a lot of it too is they are producers in DJs so they can they hear a different sound. Exactly. And for me, it's just like, why not listen? Cause in the beginning, it's just like, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not care what they say. And I might not have vocalized it, but it's just like, well, I'm not doing that. Like, I'm a country, I'm not. That's crazy. But now it's just like, nah, they write. Not at all. Not at all. They got it in the short. They know what they doing, they write. 20:34Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm not at all. It's been nobody lately. It's just me and myself. I'm a fool who knows where they should I. You should keep them myself. Knowing in the heat of the moment, I'm pound and refute and fighting. And hold the heat by myself. Gonna leave by myself. So many comments, questions and concerns. But I'm doing what I do. You just got some nerve. And reach to them. Glad you worry about how I been driving. Now my legal team has been $8 on my albums. 20 you wonder, because I haven't pushed the button on nothing. I'm just getting a queen. Getting my balance like a bank statement. Girl from development. Some probably think I'm championing again. But I'm becoming a man. And I feel a greater despite the pain. I can't ponder on. I'm still at it. It's lighting on everything that gets hit to me. Quick fast. Like Ramadan. This remind me of my trips taking a childhood home.

21:34From the empty every weekend while I'm dealing with my. On my morning everybody is DJ and D just hilarious. Show them any guy. We are the breakfast club. Longer roses here as well. We're still kicking it with Kai Cash. His new album bars not dead is out right now. Shall I make? I've heard you talk about dealing with anxiety. The anxiety. Yeah, because you wrote a book called a book about tranquil. Trinkle. Yeah, overcoming the experience while I was a Hampton. I was going through it. Rolls-o-Bad. What was difficult? I had went through something before getting there. At Del State, it was crazy. It's like an experience I never went through, especially being from Brooklyn to go through something like that in Delaware. It was just like, it's makes no sense. But I'm a traumatized. It wasn't really traumatic. It was just something that I really never go through. And it almost got a little bit too real. Really than I ever would have seen it coming. But in the moment, it's just like I'm dealing with it. Head on. Like I'm not I'm not tucking my tail for nothing. What was the moment if you don't mind? It was just I just got into over the bunch of people that I didn't even know I was getting into it. It's like it's just coming from angles. And it wasn't just me. It was just a group of my peers.

22:35And it's just like people we thought we was cool with. They did something shady one day. And now we're just at odds with Philly. Philly from Delaware. And it's just like, all right, I don't even know what's going on. But I do know I'm protecting myself by any means. So whatever it is, it is. I left and asked when the anxiety started to crack for me. And I'm just like, yo, what's going on? I'm having heart palpitations. Panic at that. I go straight to the hospital. I'm like, I'm about to die. It's over. It's over for me. I guess the hospital day like you having an anxiety attack and a panic attack. I'm just like, oh, okay. But it happened after the fact. So it's just like, okay, I didn't know what was going on. So I only left Del State because I initially wanted to go to Hampton straight out of high school. My grades, I just didn't need it. I didn't meet the requirements. So I went to Del State first. I had like a three three went to Hampton sort of. I got to Hampton. I'm thinking it's going to be just is like in a beginning. I'm like, oh, it's going to be just as fires down state because Del State is to get. Oh, I loved it there. I got to Hampton. It's like booney. Yeah, you got to be inside at 11 o'clock.

23:37I said, whoa, curfew into homecoming. I said, whoa, yo, my first roommate used to have seizures. My auntie didn't tell me like it was just like, I just you know, you like your music. But the crazy. It's like. I'm not. I'm not. I'm not. I don't know. He's good. He's good. Okay. But nobody told me. Right. So what? When I'm just chilling in the room, like I might have been the first day. I don't even know what to do. And I'm not even laughing at it. I'm laughing. Just all the way. Just all the way into this. I don't know what happened. He started. He's I'm just like, whoa, no, hold on. The R.D. was like, oh, yeah, by the way, I'm like by the way. This is not something you bought away. I'm right. Are you supposed to tell me this? I was like, cool. I might be able to deal with it. He might got to like the third, fourth joint. I'm like, I bro respectfully. But I don't know what I'm going through right now.

24:38And I'll be there. But we both in hand. We just. I get out. All you was in you was James Hall. Hardness. Hardness. Yeah. Cooked. It was cooked. And he was like, now I respected it. I end up moving downstairs. Everything was. I wanted to. At the end of the beginning, I kept you know, I wanted to transfer the week I got there. I was like, I got to get out of here. I feel like I'm in prison. I can't. There's no visitation. I'm like, what is this? I hit pops. I'm like, yo, can I go to Clark? He was like, no, you're not. You got to thug it out. And then as time progressed, it got better. Like I just, I think it gets better once you realize. I think things. I just. I just. I think it gets better once you realize. I think things. I just. Yeah. But that's what it is. It's about discipline. It's a, it's, you got to think when people go to college a lot of times, they lose themselves because they never had that much freedom. Yeah. So what happened? So it guides you to get to that point. Imagine having the freedom. Yeah. Cause that does date. You just. I got my car. You better be smarter. I'm in the co ed dorm. My R.A. is them in my age. So it's like, I'm not ever listening to you about nothing. And it's just turned. I get to have to.

25:38And it's like, I'm in an old boys dorm. 11 o'clock. Can't have your car. Can't have your car. You will get out by 5th. And I'm just like, wait a minute. Hold on. It's a lot. It's like, I didn't even have this back home. So for me, it's just like with the anxiety I already had. And then just dealing with that. I went to therapy. That's the first time I'm going to therapy. I am thin. And it was just like, that's good. I'm tonight. It wasn't good for me. Cause I went and I'm just like, miss. I'm bugging out every day. But that's a. I did. Coming to you once a week is not efficient. You got to go more. Cause once you realize it, once you realize it's something happening to your mind. And not your body is able to put it in the proper first place. And then I just started like, I don't mind. It's really the playground devil. I started just getting out more. All right. Let me go tap in with people. Let me go work out. Let me go to the calves. Let me just do the students in or whatever I can do to just ease my mind. And then it helped. And then I ended up writing a book. So I'm just like, I know it's not only helped me or the people that's in school. Everybody deals with it at some point. That's right. So this is something that I can just share with the world. But you know what? That's what when I went to Hampton, that's what put me tight with the locals.

26:39Yeah. Cause what I would do is, first of all, I would be out on the weekend. So I would get out. Or I would be out. Or I would be out on the weekend. And then I would be out on the weekend. So I would get out. Or I would sneak out, sneak out. Yeah. And I would walk down the back by the, uh, the barcloth on behind the cemetery. You the hardness. That was James. Okay. And I would sneak out. But that's what got me cool with the locals. Cause you couldn't be, couldn't come after 10. So I'm hanging out with push a tee at Tim, Tim Montgomery. I'm with Alan. I said, I'm with all the local in the 75s. I was in the 75s. So I knew more people locally than the actual school. Because it's because of all those. And I was, I was, I was, I was jaded in the sense. I was like, I got a little bit of Instagram. I got more followers than everybody here. I don't care about nothing. Y'all go and know me.
