Whatever the moment, it's never ordinary at Bet365. Tyler Euremchuk and Carter Hutton with
the huts. How was your weekend? Traveled back to Thunder Bay. All safely, I assume.
It was good. I was delayed. So being the good dad that I am, I picked the early flight Saturday.
7.30 a.m. So I get back to Thunder Bay. Just after nine, I sat in the airport on the island in
Toronto till about 11. We got on the plane. Thought we were leaving and fog came in.
Then they got us back off the plane. I had to sit there, but it was all right. We got our home.
I missed the kids hockey games, but that's all right. I got enough NHL to fill my hockey void for the weekend.
And that's where there is nothing worse, travel-wise. Give me all the delays in the world,
as long as I haven't boarded the plane yet. There is nothing worse than when you get on the plane.
And like, I've had times where you sit there like two and a half hours on the damn thing. Nothing
worse than that. Yeah. And we were on the plane too. What they said was that we were just waiting
for the coffee to show up in the condiments. I don't know what they held you would call it the
refreshments to show up. So I was just like, okay, whatever. And then we sat there for half an hour
and got kicked off, but we made our home. And nobody deal. It was a great trade deadline.
Not as exciting. The double retention is killing us and the playoff cap, but it is what it is.
And we just got to abide by the rules. Hopefully the Vegas Gold Knights know that now.
Yeah. That's a good point. We're maybe going to have a conversation about that with Jeff
Merrick when he pops on the show later on this week. But lots of deadline-related activities to get
to today. But I actually want to kick things off with one of the games on the ice we saw last night.
Huts, they're dubbing at the game of the year. And I think the people might be right eight,
seven, the final between Buffalo and Tampa Bay. It was absolutely electric in Buffalo. You
had the Sabers getting out to a big lead blowing it going down by two goals in the final 10 minutes.
And not only do they come back and win, they win the game in regulation, which means the Buffalo
Sabers are currently the number one team in the Atlantic division with 84 points on the season.
And before we get into kind of our thoughts on this whole thing, I wanted to play the last couple
seconds of the TV call of last night because it shows just how electric Keybank Arena was in Buffalo
Pat if we got it. Let's play it.
Seconds, Kuturong carries it in. The Magic Band out of strip. The Sabers are in first place
in the Atlantic division with the win. Eight, seven, the final. And yet one more melee breaks out.
Against the boards, it won't matter. The Sabers have won seven in a row. They have climbed
a regular season mountain to all of a sudden have a two point lead at top of the Atlantic division.
The fighting was insane. There were seven goals in the second period, seven goals in the third
period, 70 total shots on goal, 105 penalty minutes, 10 players with multi-point games.
The Keybank Center was absolutely rocking yesterday, Huts.
Yeah, it was unbelievable. And what a game like, you know, I guess there's tales of this game,
where if you're the Buffalo Sabers and you have a lead, you want to protect it. They weren't
able to. And then obviously the lightning come back, but then they're able to get back in the
game and fight away back. And what I did notice in this game, I think a few things that stand out
to me is the aggression toward all lead, right? You look at Hagel targeting him going after him
a few different times. Then there's another play on the wall in a big scrum breaks out where they
Hagel Hammers, Taged Thompson from behind as well. And what I see here, truthfully Ty, if I'm saying
if I'm the Tampa Bay Lightning, you're on a back to back. Yes, you had Jonas Johansson in that,
you could say that if Vaseleski's in that, this doesn't happen. But that being said, they are
sending a clear message to the Buffalo Sabers that if you're going to come through us in the playoffs,
it's going to be absolute hell. And they're going to make it hard on these young guys that haven't
been in the playoffs. The experience, everything's going to end to it. But for the Buffalo Sabers,
first in Atlantic, 39, 19 and six, unbelievable. And it's been a great run. And I think for them,
just the confidence you can take away. Yes, you don't want to win games eight seven. But you found
a way to win a game that you probably had no business winning. Hagel, by the way, a $5,000 fine
for everything you just talked about. That came down from the Department of Player Safety
earlier today. This run that Buffalo's been on to put them up to the top spot. I mean, again,
this is a team that fired their GM earlier on in the season because they felt like things were
falling apart. And that Kevin Adams hadn't built the winner. Well, those same players are kicking a
guy like Josh Don, he's been unbelievable. And how about this number since December 1st,
they are number one in the NHL with a 769 points percentage. Second in that stretch is Colorado,
all the way down at 716. You can see it on the screen here. Look at that gap from first to second
in points percentage since December 1st. Look at the gap from first to third. This run by Buffalo
has been, I mean, everyone knows it's been unbelievable. In this stretch since December 1,
they are outscoring teams by an average of 1.05 goals per game. That's wild. They're the only team
to lead over that stretch who has a like goal differential per game above one. Everything's buzzing
their way. And when you look at like the energy and the arena, the passion they're playing with,
like the way they're kind of embodying that fan base, I don't want to play them in the playoffs.
That's if I'm another team in the east. No, and that's something that's important to talk
about is I don't think anybody does right now. And momentum is such a powerful thing. It's so
hard to predict. It's so hard to generate on your own. And you see those swings and teams coming in
with the right kind of momentum. It's unbelievable to watch. I think like you touched on what
don't has been able to do there. It's been great. And I don't know if you saw that fun fact about
how he switched sticks and he's been using a stick from Thompson and it changed the whip of the stick.
So he had a whipier stick and he went to a stiffer stick where because he's in more net front battles
and he's getting a lot of his goals in those tougher areas, it's added a little bit of stiffness
and flux to his game and it's helped them net front. I think that's a little interesting fact.
Like as you play and as you start to define yourself in your role, the awareness to make changes
and do that, I think has been awesome for this team front to back. And again, a crazy game. But
like when you see that crowd rocking, like you don't want to go into Buffalo playing them game
one of the playoffs. Like I can't imagine what that or it gives me goosebumps just thinking about
it. Yeah. I mean, you're a guy who again like played there and you were a part of that one year
where you put together a really good first half of the season. And now for Buffalo,
it looks like that playoff drought is going to come to an end 98.8% chance of making the playoffs
according to MoneyPuck.com. On the flip side of that, you said it for the Tampa Bay Lightning,
who are five and five in their last 10. They've plateaued off a little bit here. But I think last night
or yesterday, I should say it was an afternoon game. You could maybe sit there and say, hey,
if we have Vashel left ski, we're probably not losing that game eight to seven. But as we switch over
to our man of the weekend awards here, Hutz, you wanted to give some love to Corey Perry. How could
you not two goals in two games since rejoining the bolts? And a scrap to open the second period to,
you know, the veteran gets moved out of LA comes in Tampa Bay, a similar place where he has been,
and he was doing this on like no rest as well, right? He flew into the play in that game against
Toronto where there was no rest. He came and he's a difference maker scores a goal and then he's
able to score again in this game. And this is exactly why you brought Corey Perry in because he
knows how to play like a game like this is awesome for him. This is right up his alley. And again,
even though the lightning lost this, I think you walk away from this game being like, hey, we sent
a clear message and Corey Perry's going to be a big difference maker. And I think for a lot of
confidence for the teams in the Atlantic and in the East is there is no Florida Panthers anymore.
They're not going to make the playoffs. So who is going to be that team that's going to be
hard to play against? And I think Corey Perry makes this Tampa Bay team a lot tougher down the middle
and are just down in their lineup. Sorry. Yeah. And obviously it's been well documented. The
Corey Perry curse, but he's played a ton of hockey over the last number of years going to cup
fine after cup final after cup final, but Tampa Bay obviously valuing that experience there.
And it paid off early. It's such a Corey Perry stat line as well like two goals in two games.
He's playing under 12 minutes of game two, but impressive stuff from the worm. The guy I wanted
to highlight from the weekend was actually let's go to Boston. Pavel Zaka with four goals in two
games. And he helped the Bruins get a couple of big wins. They beat Pittsburgh and they beat
Washington. And if you go look like just because I had the stats open, the Boston Bruins since
December 1st this year, they've been a top 10 team in the NHL. The only thing that's hurt
them is that the Habs, Lightning and Sabers who are all in their division are all ahead of them.
They're all also top 10 teams in the league since December 1st, like they've been playing some
pretty consistently good hockey as a team. It's just man, everyone above them has also been
read hot. I think Detroit as well as a top 10 team since December 1st. So for Boston, even though
they continue to play good hockey, they have points in eight of their last 10 games.
They're still only three points up on the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final playoff spot
in the Eastern Conference. And Columbus has a game in hand like it's not a lock, which made
these two wins over the weekend again over both Pittsburgh and Washington just massive. So Zaka
was huge. He's on the verge of scoring 20 goals for the third time in four seasons as a Boston
Bruin, a trade a number of years ago that is working out really, really well. But this Bruin's
team, again, every win is massive and they got a couple big ones this weekend. Yeah, it's huge,
right? And again, it's that time of year where, hey, this is what you have. There's no one coming to
save you unless it's a pickup from the minors or someone getting back from injury. And you look at
the deadline, some of these acquisitions, like I wrote it, while it was in a second game, it gets a
game time goal yesterday in a huge match against Minnesota Wilde and a Colorado. Cauldry had a big
assist, Lawton scored, Fogo scored for Ottawa, Carrick for Buffalo, Drew and for St. Louis,
Doc had assisted Edmonton and Strowham had to go on Calgary. So you look at those initial games,
they come in. That's a pretty impressive stat line from trade deadline. How many guys had an
impact immediately on the games? Yeah, and we're going to keep that conversation going in a few
minutes when our guy Brock Sagan joins us a few players to keep an eye on post deadline. But let's
keep the deadline talk going here a little bit. Who are the trade deadline winners and losers?
Everyone had the weekend to kind of sit on what their teams did. And I'll be honest tuts.
I'm having a really hard time looking around the NHL and finding winners of this deadline.
Like I think you could sit there and say like, Hey, Colorado got nozum cadre right at the buzzer.
They didn't pay a ton to get them. They got some retention. Like all of those things
that cadre deal looks great. Colorado improved down the middle. It's going to make them that much
more difficult to beat four times in a seven game series. But I also kind of sit there and go like,
all right, Colorado, if you thought you could get cadre, do you maybe want to redo on that
Nick Watt trade because it feels like they got a little bit desperate in giving up a first-round
pick for Nick Waw, because they felt like they weren't going to get cadre. Then they went and
got cadre anyway. So it feels like again, they spent a lot on a guy in Nick Waw, who I know you
said scored over the weekend, but like he's a fourth line center for you now and like pretty clearly
a fourth line center. And you paid a first-round pick for him. So I have a really hard time finding
a team that I would label as a true winner. Is there anyone who you really like?
Yeah, like I like Colorado in the sense of being like, we're trying to win the cup right now.
There's no first-round pick. There's whatever we gave up. This is our chance to try to win the cup.
While we have McCart at his number, while we have a healthy Nathan McKinnon, our D is good,
our goalies are good. And they're going for it, right? It is what it is. And we'll see because
that central division is loaded. The team for me that I thought was kind of sneaky like getting
rid of a few players. I know they didn't move on Kyra or Thomas is a St. Louis Blues though.
After the Colton-Pere co-Shananigans and the publicity of everything that's gone on,
he's able to go and just make a move where he moves out fall and he moves out shanning,
he acquires some picks. And I think for Doug Armstrong, the important factor here is this is his
last year in St. Louis as well. Like he's handing the keys over the castle to Alex Dean. He's going to
take over. And I think that's an important factor here too, as he was good enough to set this team
in the right space for them to start the rebuild. And I think for them, just with everything that
had gone on, that's a pretty good pick. And maybe Kyra and Thomas are something we assess in the summer.
Yeah. And that's the other thing with St. Louis. Like I liked the return for Shen, right?
You move off from an older player. I like that. Honestly, that was a win-win deal for me. I know
people were kind of bitching and saying, the Islanders paid too much. I sit here and go, hey,
they're in a playoff spot. They got young Matthew Schaefer. I think that the way Schaefer's
playing this tier is signals that the rebuilds kind of over on Long Island. So yeah, go get a guy
who's under control. They signed Pazzo again. They got a lot of work done. But for St. Louis,
you got the first for Shen, that's good. You got a piece for Justin Falk, the guy who's got another
year on his deal, but good to cash in on what you could get for there. And then the other guy's like,
you said, you can do that at the draft. Like Robert Thomas isn't going to see his value drop off in
the next 20 some on games. You'll still get a haul for him at the end of June or in July. Jordan
Kyra was in the same boat. And even a guy like Cole and Peraco, you know what Buffalo was willing to
give you the market to an extent has kind of been set. Maybe he's more open to waving his
no movement clause in the early stages of the offseason, right? When he's got some time to think
about it. So I don't mind that a few other teams that I didn't love. I just look at the eastern
conference huts. And like it's so wide open. And I know everyone was bitching about Detroit. They
went and got Justin Falk right at the end. So they did something, but like Carolina did nothing.
Montreal did nothing. Boston, maybe not a team who I expected to do a tonne. So I won't lump them
in the same conversation. But I look at Montreal and Carolina as two teams who have just
noodles of cap space. They had assets if they wanted to. And they did nothing. And I think again,
they could end up one of those teams could lose and round one. And I think really be kicking
themselves that they didn't push their chips a little bit more into the middle here.
Yeah. When we were sitting there during trade deadline, Penoeta kind of came through and said
that like, you know, Carolina's supposed to get in the bottom six guy, right? This was kind of
off the record. He had talked to somebody and I was like, okay, you're getting the bottom six guy.
But then when it came out, it was Nick Deloria, which I love Nick Deloria. But like, how does Nick
Deloria help you when a playoff series? Yes, he has a presence. And yes, he's pound for pound,
probably the toughest guy in the league him and Matthew Oliver. But like I thought they would go
and do more. I thought, you know, it was all in on Tro checker. There was going to be, you know,
somebody else to push them over the top in an eastern conference where like I know the
islanders are good. Depends are in the mix. But like, it feels like it's Carolina's to get to the
eastern conference final. And then you're going to place what it looks like. Somebody's got to go
through the wings, the lightning, the sabers. Like, this is your chance. It feels like there's no
Florida panthers and to not beef that up is really questionable for me. A team that gives up a
ton of chances off the rush. I think their number one in goes against off the rush. Like,
where is that extra defense, especially when it comes to playoff in the way the game's going to be
played? So Carolina is definitely a disappointing one for me. But that being said, you know,
they're so particular in the way that Rod Brindamore wants to play. He has his unit. And I guess
they never saw anyone that fit those pieces. Yeah. And maybe they got a little gunshot just based
on how everything played out last year with with meco ranting because you're right. Ranting is
a guy who is a bona fide superstar and he couldn't fit into the system. So I think you're right.
Carolina is just maybe a bit more picky than maybe some other teams and that even goes back to the
fit over flare kind of conversation that we had. The other team that confused me one more quickly
is just the Anaheim ducks. Like I love that John Carlson trade. Such a good deal. I think when you're
in California, you always have a great shot to re up anyone who comes in even as a pure rental.
But then for them to go move on from strome, I know it's about creating maybe some financial
flexibility in the summer. But we talked right out of the gates in our DFO live trade deadline
special Johnny Lazarus was like, Hey, I'm watching the ducks. Like if they're willing to pay this price
for John Carlson, go keep adding. And then the fact they kind of just subtracted again,
strome's not having a great year. It's not the biggest loss in the world. It's not the end of the
world. But I just felt like the ducks maybe could have done a little bit more because in the same
breath that the the Eastern conferences wide open, the Pacific division is also wide, wide,
wide open. Yeah. No one's really grabbed the grabbed it and run with it there. And again,
I don't know if I look at this as just like almost the rental factor or what they think of getting
into the playoffs and gaining some experience because John Carlson at 36 years old is a UFA next
year. Jacob Truba 32 UFA goodness 35 UFA. So you think three of your top demon on the right
side are going to be they all play right D. They're going to be done expiring contracts. We
interesting to see how that builds out for the next year. And I think for the ducks right now,
just trying to gain some experience. But I think time will tell what they do there because they are
building in the right direction. Cutter Gochay looks like he is a man on a mission. He has been playing
so well lately. But I'm interesting to see what they do in free agency. That's a team for me that
definitely going to have an eye on. All right. Let's get to our big segment for the day.

Brock Sagan from Daily Face Off joins us.
Brock, before we get into a few of the things that I know you want to touch on,
starting with the Red Wings. We have some Wings fans in the chat who are pissed off. How did you
feel about Eisenhower's deadline? It was underwhelming, but I think it was we watched the deadline
unfold and nobody really made any crazy moves. I think the asking prices across the board were
massive and like, yeah, I want the Red Wings to be in the playoffs. I want the Red Wings to go as
deep as they can, but I don't also want to just mortgage the future on 2025-26. So I thought the
fall condition was good. He looked good this first game yesterday. I think he'll help a lot.
Having mex year two is helpful, but yeah, like I just I think that's like it's you always want
them to do something, but I don't want them to give up everything to try to compete this year.
I was okay with it with the asking prices that were going around. I just want to say one thing
about Caroline, I like, is anybody getting concerned about Caroline as goal-tending? Like,
Brandon Bussey, like the shine is starting to wear off there a little bit, 8.59, say you
percentage in his last seven, still just never loses hockey games, but like you were talking about
Caroline to being confused at the deadline, like their goal-tending situation with Kitchekov,
maybe not being ready to come back in the playoffs is looking sketchy.
Yeah, I'm with you there too. And again, nothing against Brandon Bussey because he's been
awesome this year and he's finding ways to win games, but the leash of giving up bad goals
or giving up four on 22 changes a lot when he gets to the playoffs, right? And everybody knows
that. And the team for me that I think about when it comes to that scenario was obviously
McKenzie Blackwood and the call about Avalanche, you know, last year's lack of playoffs success
against Dallas, but they go out and get Nazum Kadri. Like, where do you think his value is right
now from a fantasy standpoint with Kadri going to the apps? Well, Kadri's, like, own percentage
and fantasy dropped because he started to struggle a little bit in Calgary. And you know,
he's a guy that was like 100% older than he's down to 68% now. And he becomes a must-add in
every format following this trade to Colorado. Obviously, you know, that addition's nice,
but now you got Gabe Landis cog out week to week. And you talked about it, Ty, like adding
Nick Waw, really increased their center death. Well, their center death is so good that there's
like, yeah, we'll split Kadri on the wing. It's totally fine. And he started on the top line with
Nathan McKinney yesterday picked up a gorgeous assist. Like the past was unbelievable.
Ended up finishing the game with five shots, eight shot attempts, almost 22 minutes. Like,
if that's a sign of things to come, he's a league winning pickup in shallow leagues. Obviously,
he's not available in the deeper competitive leagues. But if you already rostered him before
the trade deadline, congratulations on your massive upgrade because it's going to be huge,
probably a huge finish year for Kadri playing with McKinney. Yeah, it's crazy to think there's
only 20 some odd games left, which does kind of make you question like how quickly can some of
these new guys fit in? One guy I'm curious about and I know you wanted to talk about him was Bobby
Brink in Minnesota again, the wild. We all kind of thought they'd do something flashier with that
forward group they didn't, but where do you envision Brink fitting in there? Yeah, this will be a
theme for kind of the rest of my pickups. A lot of really low own guys that are available on
fantasy hockey waiver wires. And I think Bobby Brink is an interesting name right now. He really
started to come into his own. It seemed like with Philadelphia towards the end of this 10 year
there, 4.2 shot of tennis per game in his last 10 games. And then his first game with Minnesota,
he's on the second line with Eric Snack and Matt Boldy. And I think that's a spot that they've
been trying to solidify markets. Yo Hansen has been fine there. But I think that they needed
some wing help in that top six, maybe a center two. And I think Brink can bring them a little bit
of that. So he's somebody I'm keeping an eye on right now if he continues to play with Eric Snack
and Boldy. I think he's a guy that is good enough offensively to contribute with those guys.
The issue is he only played under 13 minutes in that game. So not a name that I'm Russian
the waiver wire to add right now. But if he can solidify himself in that spot, it's a really,
really nice spot. The roster. Now the Preds, they got rid of a few players, not the big names that
potentially were expecting. And what does that mean for when we talk about Matthew Wood there,
like he scored the other day, like is he going to be inserted into the lineup?
It seems that way. I mean, yeah, like you said, they made a couple of minor moves ahead of
the deadline and just it opened up some roster flexibility, opened up some spots in the lineup,
moving out guys like Michael Bunting and it shifted Matthew Wood to center. And he's on
a line with Philip Forsberg and so far in those two games in that role, he's got three goals.
So fire six shots, 12 shot attempts in those two games as well. The underlying metrics
granted. It's a super, super small sample size, something like 20 minutes. But Forsberg would
evangelisa have been absolutely great. Evangelisa is an absolute five E five stud. So I really like
that line for Wood. I think, you know, he's a he's a prospect former first round pick in 2023
that could have a really strong finish to the season. So again, a real theme today is just like
some young guys that are getting new roles that are really worth keeping an eye on.
Well, New York's kind of in the same boat almost as this predator's team where everyone kind of
thought they would sell off more than they ended up selling off like tro check obviously stays
with the Rangers. And now again, way out of the playoff picture. So the focus in these final 20
some games is going to be like, all right, are some of the young guys there maybe going to get some
opportunity. Yeah. So like with the first couple guys I've talked about, I'm maybe not rushing
to the waiver wire to pick them up right now. But like I think Alexi Lafernier and GamePro are
guys that you can confidently pick up right now. I mean, the first overall pick in Lafernier in 2020
and the 23rd overall pick in 2023 are just they're playing massive ice time following the basically
gutting, maybe not a full gutting that it totally clean house. But you know, Bener and in company
gone, really opening up ice time in this top six. Lafernier has been over 20 minutes per game in his
last three are, excuse me, three of his last four games. And he's picked up eight points in his
last seven games, including four goals. He's also averaged 4.4 shot attempts per game. So he's
playing a ton. He's getting pox on that. He's producing right now. It's great to see a little
bit too little too late here. And then Perot played over 22 minutes against the devils and his
averaging nearly 19 minutes per game in his last four. His sky shoppers absolutely skyrocketed
in those games. He's averaging six shot attempts per game. So both of these young players, tons of
you know, production at lower levels. And, you know, and maybe if it takes 20 minutes of
night to kind of really get the offensive offense out of them, that's what it takes so be it.
Because the rest of the season, it looks like they're going to get all the minutes that they can
handle because there's really no depth on that lineup anymore. Well, I think that's the
important factor right post deadline. I actually ran through Brock, I don't know if you heard earlier,
I went through every guy that scored already in the trade. Now the other factor is if guys get
moved out or this time of year, you're going to see guys moved up. Now Alex Bump in Philly, he scores
in his debut. What can he bring to the flyers now that he's getting more of an opportunity?
Yeah. So he's seemingly Bobby brings replacement, right? And like you said, he scored his in his debut.
He was on that top line with Christian Devoreck. He finished the game with only one shot on
goal, but he had seven shot attempts. And that really lines up with his AHL numbers of volume
shooter, three point two shots per game in the AHL. He's a highly skilled winger. He likes to hit
as well. And if he can remain in this top six to the end of the season, I think he's a deep
pick up that can fill a lot of categories. He's going to get a lot of shots. He's going to rack up
hits. Now I think long term, he probably profiles a little bit more like a third line winger,
but right now, I mean, if he's going to play on that top line or somewhere within that top six and
play around 16 minutes a night, I think he can rack up some good, some good total. So I'm interested
to see, I know flyers fans are really excited to see him in the orange uniform. I'm excited to see
kind of how this plays out for them. And I think what's so interesting is this is such a weird year
with how tight everybody is in the standings and like teams who are seemingly playoff teams
selling at the deadline, but they've got now these prospects coming up. They're going to play big
roles. I think it's going to be really fun to to watch down the stretch kind of a different
storyline. Well, yeah, they always kind of say like front offices can wave the white flag and
teams can rebuild, but players never rebuild, right? And maybe on a veteran team like Washington,
you'll see some guys kind of be and we heard that like that room was gutted after everything they
did over the kind of 48 hour, 48 hour period ahead of the deadline. But yeah, some of these teams
with young guys who are down lower in the standings, like they're not just going to sit like they're
playing for contracts or playing for their NHL careers. They're not just going to sit here and
like wave the white flag and go, we sold. I'm going to stop trying now.
Yeah, and that actually is kind of perfect for who my next guy is. And the last guy here is Logan
Mayu in St. Louis. And you know, following the Olympic break, Colton Paraco was injured. Now they
traded out Justin Falk and Mayu, seeing massive ice time 22 or 21 and a half minutes since the
break in the team during that time. Excuse me. He's second on the team in shots. Hungol, not just
defense, but second on the team and second on the team in shot attempt. So he's he's getting a big
big minutes bomb periods on the second power play in Falk spot. And I think he's somebody that
could finish pretty strong here as well. And you know, anybody that's playing 21 minutes. And I
think I was actually wanted to ask you guys like it's so funny to me how everything leading up to
the deadline was like Robert Thomas and Braden Chan and Colton Paraco and how like all these
St. Louis Blues players would help push these contenders over the top. Why are the Blues better?
They've got all these guys like all the sudden they're starting to score goals and I just I don't
understand what has happened with the St. Louis Blues team because like when you look at the roster,
it wasn't terrible. All these guys were supposed to be huge bumps to these contenders. And they,
you know, I think at the start of the season, they couldn't score in the middle of the season.
They couldn't get a save. So maybe it just didn't work out, but I think it's so hilarious how,
you know, all these great players and they're just terrible to share a goal. That's funny.
I heard and I heard Armstrong talk about this a little bit earlier in the season when they had
a little bit of a pushback at times they look good and then they went on a road trip where it's like
it felt like their identity got defined that this just wasn't the core. It wasn't the group to
get it done. And again, that's something inside a room we're on paper and fantasy and what we try to
predict. Sometimes doesn't always come true. And we've seen it this year more than ever. I thought
the start of the year was definitely an odd year compared to what we expected it to be.
Yeah, they obviously aren't meshing well and it'll be interesting to see how the summer
goes. Like a guy like Robert Thomas, I mean, team should be just lined up to add him. I know
that was the one guy talking to you time. Like boy, if the Red Wings could get Robert Thomas,
that would be that just can like he's a type of player with that contract that can like completely
changes your outlook moving forward. So that was like my like when you asked about the Red Wings at
the start, like ideally we would have went out and got Robert Thomas, I guess I'll have to settle
for Justin fall. Yeah, and a little bit of help on the back end for Detroit who's sitting in a
spot this year. Brock, appreciate you popping on man. Thanks for your time.
Thanks so much for having me, boys.
All right, Huts, there are a couple of questions that I want to throw your way. One of them comes
in from Jeff Krasinski in the YouTube who said the wild have accumulated 37 points via three on
three gimmick or a skills competition. They are 24 and 16 in games decided in regulation.
How good are they? Well, I think one, that's a fair point. And you can look at a lot of teams in
this conference, like look at that big 14 next to the Vegas Golden Knights and the OT losses column.
Like Vegas has eight or only have 21 wins in regulation through 64 games. We're deep in the
season and they've won less than a third of their games in regulation this year. And many's not
all that much different. They only have 24 regulation wins in 64 games. I think it's a
totally fair point to kind of look at the the Minnesota wild and say like, you know,
why aren't you winning more games more will say handedly? And it's part of the reason why I wanted
them to make that big sexy forward ad at the deadline. Yeah, I think you can go both ways, right?
And the fact of like, hey, you're not able to get leads and hold it and where you are. But then
the other side of the factor is like, you're going to be comfortable in these tight games and
you're used to playing tight hockey. And I think there is a benefit to that. So it's not like you're
trying to turn a switch on to get there. But you know, it is going to come down to when you look at
the Minnesota wild and you look at the Dallas stars. And and I think you like Dallas with Robertson
and Renton and Wyatt Johnson, the offense that they're going to be able to create versus Minnesota.
There's going to be a lot of pressure on Caprice off and Boldy to generate that ink when he was
from the back end. So will they able to go like stars versus stars in this lineup when you got to
go through Dallas and then you got to go through Colorado, expecting they win the first round as well.
So it will be a challenge to Minnesota. But I think they're, they're comfy in those tight games.
But it's going to be it's going to be a tough hill to climb.
I wanted to ask you also just we were having a conversation there about Brandon Bussey and
Caroline. And I know you've been talking about how poorly they defend off the rush. One other
thing with Bussey specifically. And again, his numbers are still fine on the year, although the
save percentages now dip below 900. But in the American league over the last three seasons,
32 games. He did play 41 games one year, but then 33 games last year. He's already at the
30 game mark. Do you think there's anything to the fact that Bussey's having to play a little
hot of NHL hockey in his first NHL season? 100% and it's, it's a big adjustment, right?
To play this way. The only thing I will say that tips the scales in his favor of it is they
don't give up a ton of like quantity of shots, right? Like a lot of times you look at stat lines and
the numbers are lower. They protect a little bit. But that was a, that was a stat that I got from
Stephen and Stephen Valakette. And that was off the rush, right? So there's 30 second five on five
goals against off the rush. And the other teams that are down there are Chicago, San Jose,
Anaheim, New Jersey. And I think when you pitch your Carolina, you picture them being so
like sound defensively. And off the rush is one of the hardest safes to make as a goalie. So I
think this is going to be a challenge for Carolina if they're not able to generate five on five,
because they've always had that trouble without that superstar player to really be a separator.
Yeah. And again, like that rod brinda more style. It's always, always tough to beat. And then
you get to the playoffs and it's a totally different beast. Let's get to our daily bets for bet 365
download the app today. Whatever the moment, it's never ordinary at bet 365. I got one puck line cover,
but I did not get my other one on that would have been Thursday. Pat's got an X2. Huts is getting
hot. It's going to be an interesting race between the two of you guys. Obviously I'm, I'm tanking,
but Pat, you got some pressure on you. I know I'm back in the negatives. I mean, I got the
money line and taged. They got five goals, but nothing from Thompson. He's been a passerly,
leaving four assists last night, which is crazy. But you know, it's nice seeing some green check
marks up there. Huts. Yeah, actually got holes too, because I won. He shot, like might have went in
and took out a stick on it too. So like look at Thompson kind of look like he scored. He didn't know
what happened, but I was able to hit that one. We have another one tonight. I'm coming, Patty.
I am coming in. I don't know. I just see you know, like you don't get a drop pick.
Have you finished last one? No, damn. Well, I'm going to take another big shot here,
because again, it's late in the season. So I got to start swinging. Give me three puck lines tonight.
I don't feel great about it, but I'm going auto a Utah Washington three big, big favorites tonight.
All the win by two goals or more auto has got Vancouver. The connox are brutal. Utah's got Chicago,
Black Hawk slumping a little bit coming out of the deadline. They've sold a whole bunch of
pieces, just two wins in their last 10 and that third team is Washington over Calgary. Calgary
actually found a way to push Carolina to overtime the other night. I don't like their chances of
playing in two straight close games. So Washington has me a little nervous, but still three puck lines
plus 1000. Why not? Pat. Honestly, for plus 1000, I don't hate that at all. I'm going to copy one
of yours with Utah minus one and a half for Chicago. As you mentioned, they've sold off a bunch of
pieces. Utah has been playing greatly lately, but I'm also going to add Clayton Keller to
plus points. He's got seven in his last five. He's got two points in three of his last five. So
plus 360 for that one. If you just want to go one point, it's like plus 160. So still not bad,
but I'm going for some juice today. What about you, Hudson?
Okay. I took the goalie route today. I'm taking the unders and I like the LA Columbus game. I think
we'll see Jed Greaves and Darcy Kemper in the end. Again, I just think both of those scenes are
going to defend hard. Now, this is my long shot here. I like Famelka getting a start tonight,
but Drew commissals in the pipes for the Chicago blockhawks. His last start was in January,
and he had a shutout, 36 or 36 against the preads. I'm hoping he can sometimes win like a younger
goalie gets to start. The team is more amped up to try to protect them. That's my theory here. If
it doesn't work, I'm off tomorrow. So we can't even talk about it. All right. Let's wrap up with a
little bit of garbage time. And yes, hot to your gun for the next week. Is there a Disney world?
Yeah, we're going to Disney. We're taking the kids. My wife has advised me that this is our sweet
spot to go. We got a six and an eight year old. I've never been my anxiety. Couldn't be
higher about going, but we're going to have some fun and we'll have to a little reset. I'll be
back with a tan, hopefully. Are you are you a rides guy? Are you just going to be kind of sitting
there and holding the backpack and the stuff while the kids go do it? No, I'll do rides. I'm just not
like a like a spinning ride guy. Like if it's a roller coaster stuff like that, I'm on this
spinning. I feel like my stomach will be tough. I don't know what happened to me. I used to ride
any single ride roller coasters at fairs and then all the sun. I got old and I became a
absolute loser type. No, I'm with you like pointless spinning for me. That's like where I
draw the line, but like give me a good big roller coaster and I'll get behind there.
Anyways, you'll have fun in Disney world. Our garbage time for today. One of the best stories
in the NHL over the weekend. How about Dominic Shine, a Michigan native who made his pro debut all
the way back in 2016, 17 with the Grand Rapids Griffins. Hots. He went on to play in
area. He went on to play eight full seasons in the American League before eventually getting
his first crack at NHL games last season. And then this weekend after 521 career games in the AHL,
he scored his first career NHL goal. I love stories like this. No, like I absolutely love it.
At 32 years old to get that chance to, you know, be up there and finally get that goal. And he's
played a little bit in the NHL, but this is unbelievable. And I think what people don't understand
is the amount of work it takes to even stay in the American hockey league, right? Like it is so
hard to be in the NHL, let alone be an American hockey league or so good to him, good credit.
And this is the time of year where guys get chances and you got to take advantage of it. So
Kudos to him. Yeah. And I mean, he even got rewarded with a nice two-year deal by the Red Wings.
It was still a two-way contract. But again, when you kind of go through like the minor league
salaries for a guy like that, man, to turn that into what's been a couple of actually decent
contracts over the last couple years, it's a really, really nice story for Dominic Shine out in
Detroit. Huts is off for the next week. I'm going to have a little varying run of co-hosts
for the next seven shows. So I look forward to that. Jeff Merrick tomorrow, Steve Peters,
and Max Lapierre on Wednesday. So that's a little taste of what we got coming up over the next
few weeks. Everybody in the year and the next few days, everybody in the YouTube, great stuff.
As always, excited to kick off a week where every night feels like a playoff intense night
in the NHL. Huts is off to see Mickey Mouse. Everybody else is going to hockey. We'll see you tomorrow,
