Well our next guest Rob Havenstein, 11 NFL seasons, a Super Bowl champ, a four time captain, started all 161 career games including the playoffs incredibly durable. Boy Rams have had some good tackles, right? Whitworth, Havenstein, Elleric Jackson's undrafted, that's rare to get an offensive tackle that plays at a high level that's undrafted.

3:11He knows all about the Rams and the Niners who played the night. He knows a bit about the Seahawks who played last night. Didn't play particularly well. You know, it's funny with Seattle. Ten penalties, bad in the red zone, back up quarterback. And I was saying the NFL's a copycat league. You can't really copy what they can do. Hell, their corner with their spoons, one of the best blitzers. They're in these battles with Seattle. They don't just the speed and the versatility. I mean, did a Seattle game Rob just feel different? Yeah, no, 100 percent, especially when you're playing in Seattle because like that stadium is always loud. It's always rocking. That defense is playing with their hair on fire. I mean, the depth that they have on defense is unbelievable. I mean, they're bringing new ones who off the bench. He'd be a starter anywhere else. And so like their depth up front, especially is unreal. And they have great blitzers on the edge.

4:13And they're just very fundamentally sound. Like, you're not going to have to go beat them. They're not going to go beat themselves. And so everything just felt a little different every time you played those guys, especially in Seattle. You know, it's interesting in this division. I mean, it's been a, I want to talk Rams tonight with the Niners. So let's first start with, I like what the Rams are doing. I've been calling it SEAL Team 6. Fly in, attack, fly out. Niners, it's like a wedding. They've been prepping it for six weeks, six months. It's like, I'm not a fan of that. Now they have an older team. Maybe that's the reason. I am much more into the Rams discipline here. And further record reportedly, the LA Times reported the Rams. Something like five guys over there in the off season. And they just kept asking them, how did you feel as a veteran player? Would you have liked a few days to do it? I mean, Rob, you know, you for, you're four and you're eight or a different player. Which way do you prefer?

5:15Yeah, you know, this first kind of started with the London thing last year. I mean, I want to say we were there for 23 hours or whatever the heck it was. Like it wasn't a long time. And so that took a lot of trust. Because they kept saying around the buildings, like you got to trust the science, trust the science. We've researched this. We think this is what's best. And so having that experience last year and then going on to this year, it's like, it's almost kind of that same thing where you just kind of. You got to really trust what they're telling you and what they're telling you has been researched and studied on. And we think this is best for our football team. We want to trust with there and then you know, Matthew said it in his presser where you know, guys are going to be tired at the right time. Like yeah, they're probably exhausted. I don't even know what they it is there right now. But you know, when it was time to go to bed, I'm sure everybody was absolutely exhausted, which is good. It's that time. So go to bed, wake up, get some eggs, go play some football. But you know, Colin, that's a.

6:16From what it seems, that's kind of a hard stance to have on the ramps. Because a lot of people are killing them for this this approach. But for me, I'd rather have it like that because you know, you got to go into week two after week one. And so if you get there a week early and then you leave and then you're taking half your week to, you know, get used to the time change again. And so it's like, you know, it's you can't have your cake and eat it too. So it's when are you going to feel bad? Is it potentially before this game or you're trying to do what the Rams are doing and just not feel bad at all and just wake up late? Or about, you know, the flight time and that stuff, but you're not really adjusting to different time zones per se. You know, the Niners lost another player, a defensive tackle two days ago. And you know, there's been this, I guess it's mythology, the substation issue. And people said that's, that's not it. But it is weird. The Rams and the Seahawks do not have a lot of injuries. Okay, the Niners, it's a six year run here.

7:16Now, my theory, Rob is Shanahan likes and recruits and drafts physical play. Kittle is more physical than most high dents. McCaffrey takes a beat, debos a physical player. I just like, how fun go when they had him was hurt at USC, but he was super physical. They put him in the box. He blow guys up. So my reasoning is Kyle likes guys that play a little wild and out of control. Other than that, I cannot explain it. What are players for the Rams? What did you guys say watching the Niners fall apart every year physically? I mean, it was just kind of one of those things where you just kind of knew it was going to happen. You know, you don't have a rhyme or reason why. Maybe it's the substation. Maybe it's not, you know, I mean, there's got to be something to that because it's been every single year. And it's not like, you know, a little boo-boo here and there. Like, I mean, these are serious injuries that happen every single year. And then to go ahead and lose a guy like Alfred Collins, you know, he was a rookie last year and played well.

8:17He had that punch out of the goal line, burst car in. Like, that was a huge point in that game. And so, you know, good young player and you lose him for the season. I mean, that's just, that's tough. And, you know, obviously, Nick's fit to go, but he's coming off of two major knee injuries. And so it's like, you know, he's he can continue to be the same player. And like he said, George is a, you know, a special player. And then he, you know, he's coming off the Achilles and how does that affect how he kind of gets around a football field. And it's week one, you know, is he, does he, did he have the time to come back? Sorry, I'm getting a little tangent here, but no, it's, it's something that just seems to happen every single year. And it's not one position group, which usually the injury bud bites one position group. It's the whole roster. Anyone, anyone could get it. It's such a strange thing. Yeah. So you think about this. You were a, a, an all American in college at Wisconsin. You were two time all big ten. You were a second round draft pick.

9:19I'm reading where the chiefs are going to start undrafted free agent, Khalil Benson at left tackle against the Broncos pass rush. So you were a highly decorated dominant, tough guy. You know, Wisconsin, you'd played against NFL guys. Go to your first start in the NFL. What is this kid going through? Yeah, man, he's, he's going through it. I, that is a tough situation to put him in. And the biggest thing for me, the biggest point with him is that he played right tackle in college. You know, he's a right tackle and you, you're going to start him on Patrick Mahone's line side. When Patrick Mahone's is coming off his own injury, I mean, that, that first start is nerve racking. I remember we played, actually, it was Seattle. It was Cliff Avril over on my side most of the time. And that was, you know, it was sink or swim. And I was sinking with a breath pretty much the whole game, you know.

10:23I wasn't drowning by any means, but I was not doing very well. And I was just trying to hang on, trying to get the game, the speed of the game. And, you know, things just happen faster in the NFL. And that's something that a practice really can't recreate because your quarterback can now get hit. And that is a big, big thing when you go to the regular season. It's like, oh, this guy doesn't have the reggers, he on, I know he's the chiefs. He's going to have probably a reggers, he on or a white jersey, whatever it is. But that's beside the point, you know, so, and then, you know, for him to flip right to left, that's doing everything backwards. That's tough. You know, OTAs and a training camp. It might be enough time, depending on the kid, but for me, if you had to tell me if I was right talking the whole time of Wisconsin, if I had to go play left, my first career start, I would have fallen down half the time, just trying to get into a set. I mean, you're just so ingrained into your movement patterns. We're going backwards, basically, with your other flip back, it's just seems so foreign. Yeah. Rob Havenstein joining us.

11:24So Aaron Donald did not make the trip to Australia for the Rams. I, my take is, you have the luxury because of Kobe Turner and your defensive front. You could plan 12 snaps in week two, 13 and, I mean, you can really bring him along slowly. It is kind of remarkable that you could leave the league for several seasons and come back and play. They just play. I think he's going to be really good. And because you can't double team anybody on that line now, which I remember his last year, he got triple teamed. I saw videos of triple teaming. Okay, he can't do that anymore, especially with Garrett on the edge. So he's going to get more one-on-one blocking. But let's say you decided, and you were a high-end tackle. You took two years off and came back. What do you think your biggest challenge in Aaron's biggest challenge will be? It's not like he's entering a bad division. It's the Seahawks twice. It's the Niners twice.

12:26What would be the biggest challenge? Yeah, it's just kind of those movement patterns. I mean, you're two years out, you're two years older. You might try to do some things where you used to be able to do it all the sudden. You're not quite getting around. The body's just not moving like it used to. And obviously, even though I was around for 11 years, my career to Aaron, not even comparable. Aaron's one of the greatest players of all time. If somebody can do it, it's going to be him. But he's going to have to adapt a little bit to how he's moving right now, how things are feeling. Taking on double teams. I wouldn't want to do that two years removed. Talking more specifically in the run game. For me to come back after two years, you would have to pay me $600 million. And I still rather retire after we won. That's just the truth of it. But that's the type of fire and passion Aaron has for.

13:28Or has for the game of football. That was the biggest thing when he retired. He said he didn't have to passion for it anymore. For him to find that in the two years is remarkable anyways. I think within him coming back is just going to be body movements and how to see go about playing that. Basically a new chapter in his career. By the way, before we let you go, there was a story recently about CTE and players can struggle with it. And they have made advancements in terms of helmets. You played for Sean McVeigh, which is like the four seasons of facilities and camps and treatments. The Rams aren't everybody. It's remarkable how few injuries you guys have considering the physical nature and culture of the organization. How long did it take you? You're retired. Before you woke up in the morning and thought, man, I feel like just a guy. I feel great. Or you could go to your career. You could go to now because I do think you're facing their biggest strongest athlete.

14:30You're facing the ed rusher. And you got your hands on him. You guys have shoulder surgeries. How long? How do you feel today and how long did it take you post career to wake up? And I'm going to go play with the kids. I got nothing but energy. Man, when that day hits, I'll let you know. I'm not quite there yet. I had off-season ankle surgery and it wasn't like, hey, let's just go fix up a joint or attend. Or go fix up a tendon where it's going to heal and it's going to be great. It was more of a, hey, we're going to go ahead and slap some lipstick on this pig and try to get as good as we can. So whenever that day comes, I will be sure to text you first to let you know that, hey, today's the day I woke up feeling great. But in terms of just, for me, it was really just losing the weight. And then I got more mobility in my shoulders. I've had four shoulder surgeries. I can pick up things and reach across my body or play with the kids and they throw a ball and up with something go like that.

15:32And it's like, that didn't hurt. It might be getting somewhere. Then all of a sudden I stepped wrong and my ankle hurts. I'm like, oh, okay, we're not all the way quite back yet. It was funny watching last night's game because to see a guy like Morgan Moses out there and Morton's a guy I looked up to for a long time. I loved the way his game is. I wanted to year 14 still doing it. He kind of had a hit where he kind of went over the pile and somebody kind of came into a side. And I was looking at him like, man, that was me right now. Like that's got to hurt. You know, like two more years on top of when I am or three more years on top of when I ended like, man, I'm glad I don't, I'm not out there anymore. I am at peace with it. So I know probably your next question is Aaron came back Rob when you come back. But believe me, I'm not doing it. I'm here. I'm feeling good. Lost a bunch of weights. I'm feeling pretty good. What is your weight right now?

16:32274. It looks like a J-Max reaction. It's like you look great, by the way. I would have guessed it. 250. 250 is the goal. I mean, I haven't seen under 300 since high school. So it was, it's good to be under 300. Let me tell you that. They got stuff now you can put in your side and you can lose that weight really fast, Rob. But I wouldn't. I haven't done it yet. I haven't done it yet. So I'm going to try and do this all natural. And then, you know, maybe we need a little little compound help. We'll go ahead and jump on it. And I'll be two thirty. I feel that it's that's the best thing to do. It's that substantial and he'll be in a place in a much better place than he was today. Smart move, right? They've been playing a little better. You've got to, if the national league is much deeper and much better, the Phillies are good. The Braves are good. The Cubs are good. The Brewers are excellent. The Dodgers are talented. Padres and Arizona are good teams. Hey, you know, I haven't been to Ridley. The last time I was in Chicago, we were trying to get tickets walk up, and they were sold out. I mean, this was like 20 years ago, but still. Congrats to PCA. Yeah, years, is that when you were wearing the double hoop earrings? Was that? Yes, yes. And the girlfriend at the time who's now the wife was like, you got to drop that. I can't be traveling with you at an airport. Another reason to respect her. Yes, yes, for sure. Let's go to the New York Giants, Colin, and your boy Jackson Dart, swagged out Jackson Dart. Everybody loves him. Trump loves him. He is got a big hilt to climb in week one against Dallas.

25:53By the way, you know the Cowboys own the Giants? They've won 16 of the last 18. It's not. Jack Prescott just dominates these guys. He's got Jackson Dart. He's walking in with the confidence of somebody straight out of central casting. I feel like most rivalries have totally dominated. I don't know if I've ever been on the other side of the rivalry. I mean, we lost one in college against Mississippi State, but I feel like all this has dominated that rivalry. We're dominated all my high school ones. And then, you know, just trying to stack them and build on that. This guy sleeveless shirt. That's like a come out. That's what I would do. Okay. He looks like he should be in Cobra Kai, the TV show. You know the karate kids back. That has made that has made a living on beating the Giants and the commanders. I think. Yeah. Dallas is going to be in headlines tomorrow and I'll have some fun stats for you on deck ownership of the division of the G-Men. I mean, I just, I love the Cowboys this weekend.

26:54I love it. You love them. You feel that strong. I want to make love to that two and a half. Cowboys, Giants, are you kidding me? All right. Now, final story, Colin, this is just breaking here in the last 25 minutes. What? Not great. To a tongue of Ilo was at practice today and was feeling so discomfort in his drawing drills and went down to the ground. They're calling it back spasms, back issue, something's going on. And with Michael Penex out. And Tua now dropping to the ground, what, 72 hours before the game? There is a lot of chatter that Cooper Rush will get the start against the Pittsburgh Steelers if Tua cannot go. Didn't he go five and one with Mike McCarthy and Dallas? I think it was four and one, but he did have a good run. But that was also like six years ago, right? I mean, that wasn't recently. I don't think. Maybe it was four years ago. Whatever it was. This Tua situation is bad. You see the line there, spiking to Steelers. That's just tell that something's going on with Tua. This was three, this was three and a half. Well, this isn't, this has been in my blazing fight.

27:54This is my second favorite pick of the week. But we locked that in earlier. We've been talking about this game a week. The event in four and a half, that's a little bigger. But man, this Tua story, Colin, it just stinks. I like the guy a lot. Again, he's great at the podium. His story's amazing. Family man. It's just, I just unlucky with the concussions and now this back thing. And I don't know, man, his career could be over a lot sooner than later, man. Yeah, I did. They're not winning a lot of games. I don't see. Honestly, in the first two months, I don't think they're winning a game. Two months? I don't think they'll win before the buy. Saints? Before the buy, they're all in ten, you think? Yeah. Come on, man. I'm not joking. They're going to beat the Steelers. They're going to beat the Panthers of the Saints. They're not beating the Ravens. One in nine. Going into the buy. I mean, listen, two indoors can cook and there's a lot of indoor games on that schedule. The problem is now Cooper Rush, who's a statue in the pocket going up against her big and

28:54whot off the edge. You know, these are fried guys fresh. It's not like a TJ Whatton Week 10. Yeah, you're right. This could get ugly for Atlanta quick. I mean, there's an Arizona and Atlanta. I did just put them in. Jets, jets. Jets, but the jets have talent. Yeah, a lot. You know, a lot of the sharps are picking the jets against the Titans to win out, right? Oh, I am. I think the jets are going to be the... Geno Smith, with that group, the Jets Offensive Talent is actually B. It's not A. Because it's a lot of... It's a lot of... Well, it's a lot of unproven. Got their whole lines fine. It's not great. It's not Tick. They've got their left tackle. They're fine. They got their left-hand right tackles. Yeah, they're tough. That's offensively if Geno throws a lot of picks. I think Geno, when he has time to throw, it's fine. He made a pro bowl like three years ago. He's fine. Listen, I'm not... We got to do a moratorium on no more pro bowl references. Okay, Shedore made a pro bowl.

29:55Snoop Huntly made a pro like... Come on. Geno was okay like three years ago in Seattle, wasn't he? Two or three years ago? Yeah, it was okay. I mean, there was a lot of picks. He's a big, strong arm guy. The Jets are not going to be picking number one. I think they have too many good players. No Atlanta will pick number one. Arizona will pick two. Cleveland will pick... Shedore. Yeah. So no arch to New York. Okay. Eli still lives there. I just talked to Eli yesterday. Eli still lives there. What did you talk to him about? A little pod. 36:03Sunday, the NFL is back on Fox with a week one double header first at one Eastern. It's the Falcons versus the Steelers or other regional action. Then in America's game of the week, we got the commanders against Sichuan, Berkeley, and the Eagles, or Dolphins Raiders. Check local listings for the games in your area only on Fox. Bears Panthers, Box Bengals are really interesting. Baker Mayfield got that new contract. So tonight, Rams against the Niners. Now it's interesting. The Rams went and get Miles Garrett, but the Rams were already good defensively up front. Trent McDuffey solves an issue. Rams were really good last year. Quarterback was the MVP. Why did they beat Seattle? Because the Rams weaknesses were shaky special teams. Seahawks special teams were great. And they were below average at corner. Seahawks were good at corner. So the Trent McDuffey signing, though not as revered or valued, is actually you could argue was an urgent need.

37:09That was an urgent. And Miles Garrett feels like a luxury signing. They had Jared verse. So it will be interesting to watch tonight because there was a way to move the ball in the Rams last year. And Carolina did it twice. If you had guys on the perimeter that you liked, and you weren't getting great pressure, you know, if the Rams weren't getting great pressure on your quarterback, you could beat him down the field. Here is Greg Kosell last hour on the Rams Niners as they square off tonight. There's so many variables in this game, but the Rams defense last year was not very good in the three games against the Seahawks and the two games against the Niners. They gave up an average of 405 yards per game in those five games. The Niners moved the ball well against the Rams defense. Yeah, the Rams D line end of the year finishing fifth in the league.

38:09Miles Garrett to luxury signing didn't need Miles Garrett. He makes them better. And they're all in as as Stafford gets older, but I mean, they did what they needed was a corner. I mean, it tells you their their first pick was a quarterback. Who's not going to play their second first round pick they traded for a corner. That's why I defended Ty Simpson. They had one need corner and, you know, so and that's what they attacked. The Rams ended up 26th on special teams. That was the issue, but there's nobody in the first round. You're going to draft for special teams. So Ty Simpson and giving up a first round pick to get Trent McDuffie. I think that solves the issue. I think the Rams win tonight. I would not be surprised if they win comfortably. Although I don't think either team will play brilliant football because a lot of the starters have not played. This is week one. And I you saw it last night with Seattle and the Patriots run game was inconsistent. Online play was inconsistent.

39:14It as far as the Niners go, they lost another player defensive tackle two days ago. I don't understand their injury bug. Nobody in the league does. That's why the substation conspiracy theory. Has kind of mushroomed nobody can figure it out. Here's Rob Havenstein, a former ram on his thoughts. You don't have a rhyme or reason why maybe it's the substation. Maybe it's not, you know, I mean, there's got to be something to that because it's been every single year. It's not one position group, which usually the injury bug fights one position group. It's the whole roster. Anyone anyone could get it. It's it's such a strange thing. I go back to Shanahan likes big physical players. He has more physical practices. And at some point you'd think he'd scale back, but there's there's nothing to describe the Texans can't keep a wide receiver healthy and the Niners can't keep anybody healthy. The Rams and the Seahawks. Now those are younger rosters. Younger players get hurt less often and they recover more quickly. That's part of it as well. Here is the week one schedule. The two upsets to keep your eyes on to me.

40:20Indianapolis getting over a field goal at home against Baltimore. We just don't know what Baltimore is with the new coaching staff. Carolina getting a field goal at home against Chicago. I think there's there could be big scoring in this game. Carolina is a tough match up. If you don't have two legitimate corners. If you are a little light at corner there. Carolina is a trouble match up. Rams last year. Not graded corner and Carolina exposed them twice. So J. Mac. I've said week one schedule. I will say Denver on Monday night against Kansas City. The chief starting an undrafted college right tackle it left tackle to me is incredibly problematic. Yeah. Bengals look like they've moved to four against Tampa. Interesting. I think Tampa's a live dog in that one. I don't. Texans bills still, you know, in the one. I don't think Texan bills. That doesn't feel like an I think the Texans are going to win. I think I love Buffalo. I think Buffalo is going to get the Super Bowl.

41:26But if you look at Josh Allen against the Texans, he has struggled big time. How about this? You know teasers are fun, right? Yeah. Would you tease down the Jags and the Chargers under three feels like a lock, right? Those teams are beating the Browns and the Cardinals by a few gold, right? Well, here's the game. Here are two games. There's not going to be an upset. The Jaguars at home against Cleveland. Yeah, that would be absolutely stunned if they lost. And the Chargers at home against Arizona. Yeah. And I'm not sure I may I may throw in the Steelers at home now against Atlanta. Yeah. Well, there is a little curveball. A buddy told me about the Packers. Isn't there new defensive coordinator Jonathan Ganon who was in Arizona last year? The last couple years. He was in Arizona with Kyler Murray. He knows all of Kyler Murray's tells what he likes, what he doesn't Kyler Murray starting for the Vikings. I think I'm pretty sure it's Ganon as the DC. That could be an edge for the Packers. So it's scaring me off the Vikings, but you could talk your way into any any game. Can't you Jim Harbaugh undefeated NFL career in week one.
