Hi everyone, this is Hope. Welcome to the podcast. I'm so grateful you pressed play today. Whatever kind of day you're having, I want you to know you're welcome here. Maybe you've heard about affirmations, but aren't sure they actually work. Maybe you've tried them before and felt nothing. Or maybe you've always wondered, um, can words really change the way I feel, think or live? If that's what brought you here, you're not alone. Many of us carry a quiet skepticism about affirmations. They can sound too simple for our complicated realities. But today, I want to explore what's actually happening beneath the surface. Why affirmations can work and how to make them work for you. Let's pause together for just a moment. Inhale, exhale, let's begin. Affirmations aren't magic. They don't erase pain or instantly make things better. But they do something subtle and powerful. They reshape the inner dialogue that shapes your reality.

Our brains have something called neuroplasticity. The ability to rewire themselves through repeated thought patterns. Every time you repeat a phrase, imagine a new possibility. Or choose a gentler thought. You're actually strengthening new neural pathways. A 2016 study in social cognitive and effective neuroscience found that self-affirmations activate reward centers in the brain. The same areas that light up when we experience something meaningful or motivating. It's not about pretending life is perfect. It's about teaching your brain to believe change is possible. Here's something else fascinating. Research from Carnegie Mellon University found that people who practice self-affirmations before a stressful event had lower levels of stress hormones and performed better under pressure. So when you tell yourself, I can handle this. You're not just saying words. You're preparing your body and mind to act in alignment with that belief. But here's the key.

Affirmations only begin to work when they feel believable. If you're standing in front of a mirror saying, I love everything about myself. But deep down you don't, your brain knows it's a lie. The bridge is too wide. Instead, try something softer. Truer, like, I am learning to appreciate myself more each day. Or I'm open to feeling worthy. It's not about perfection. It's about permission. Permission to think differently about yourself. Permission to choose new words that reflect your growth, not your past pain. Let's try this together. You can whisper these to yourself or just listen. Affirmation one. I am becoming more aware of the words I speak over my life. Affirmation two. I am open to believing that change begins with small, consistent thoughts. Affirmation three. My inner voice is learning to be my ally, not my critic. Let's breathe again. Inhale, hope.

Exhale, doubt. The truth is, affirmations are not about forcing positivity. They're about creating safety in your mind. A space where your future self feels welcome. Over time, repetition becomes recognition. You begin to recognize yourself in those words. That's when they stop being phrases and start being reality. So will affirmations work for you? They will. If you let them become practice rather than performance, they'll work when you meet yourself with honesty, not pressure. And they'll grow stronger each time you return to them, even quietly, even imperfectly. Thank you for showing up today for being willing to question, to try, to grow your doing beautiful work simply by being here. And now a quick word from our partner in this journey of self-growth. If you want to start your own affirmation practice, or deepen the one you already have, I want to tell you about the app we created called self-pause.

That's S-E-L-F-P-A-U-S-E. It's available for Android and Apple devices and it's filled with thousands of affirmations, meditations and tools to help you build consistency in your mindset work. It's a way to rewire your thoughts with daily intention and gentle guidance. We built it with you in mind because your words matter. And so does your healing. So take a moment today, pause the scroll and download self-pause. Begin where you are. And let your words become the bridge between who you've been and who you're becoming. Thank you for being here. You are seen, you are growing and you are enough.
