Thank you, Matt. Am I the jerk 1310 at Gmail.com? Send in no scenarios. We'd love to have you. Here we go. Hey, invasion. A month ago, I moved and I moved to a town home community in a neighborhood that is currently being revitalized.

I knew going in there would probably probably be some people hanging around that are down on their luck, but as long as they don't bother me and I don't bother them, it's all good. The other day, my neighbor discovered that people are using the faucet on the side of the building to get water. With it being so hot outside, I get that people need water and don't really mind. Our water is capped at $8 a unit, no matter the usage, so I'm willing to just eat that if it comes down to it. My neighbor, however, has made a complete stink out of this and is suggested to the landlord to put locks on faucets and even going as far as threatening to call the police. Well, I do think something has to change. Let's just have a little compassion during these days of summer. Is my neighbor the jerk? So it's capped at $80 a person. That's the max that you could pay regardless of your water usage. Right. And I got to be honest and I assume these are apartments, but that seems relatively low for water usage. So it feels like a slow number.

Everybody's situation is different, of course, and I can kind of understand what the person is saying, but I would assume that when you move into this particular area, you kind of accept what those terms are. And I do feel like the email is right as far as, hey, something has to change, like we just can't keep giving it away because maybe it could be $25. And then it's $80 for the water they're not using. So that's an extra $55 and that's a lot. So I can understand the neighbor being upset by this and saying something needs to be done. Police calling and locks. Maybe that's the answer. I honestly don't think the neighbor is a jerk though. I don't really know because if you're concerned about that and it's your money, like you said, you don't know what people are going through. We think, well, $80. That's nothing, but an $80.00 wall, $80.00 bill could stop you from eating. It could. And to that point, that's where I just kind of wonder, it's, I get the frustration of it. But I got to assume that this is a rental situation and they would have alerted you when

you rent that, hey, this is how the water here works is that you don't just pay for what you're using. You pay whatever the the average or whatever you would call that for the entire building or whatever. Right. You know that going in. But if it feels like it's an unnecessary usage that you're not causing, it's almost like if you go to a restaurant and you're all split in a bill, but you have a chicken sandwich, someone else has four cocktails and you're paying the same thing. It's like, whoa, I just kind of want to pay what I'm using. And now what everyone else is kind of splitting. So I can, I can understand the frustration of that neighbor going out of it saying, hey, like what are we doing? What can we do? Because maybe I'm paying a little bit more than what I should. So I don't think that neighbor is a jerk at all. Yeah, I was going to use the restaurant example too, because it's like, there's a deal where you're like entering into this and you should know all of the details going into renting an apartment, what it's going to be. But once you get there and you find out the reality that, well, I ordered queso and all these guys got the

steak fajitas. And now I have to pay for that. That's not exactly what I was thinking. Right. Right. So yeah, I just think, you know, just trying to make sure you get a handle on the situation and trying to see what other avenues you can explore. I probably wouldn't threaten to call the cops. But any of the suggestions that I would put out there, I think, you know, saying that to your landlord, it's not jerk behaviors. That's just me though. All right. On Sunday morning, a couple weeks back, I pull up to our local donut shop. That's great. I passed some empty spots, but it's a one way street and decided I want to park in front of the shop. I'm pulling and notice the car that was already parked was over the line as I'm pulling in a woman comes out the donut shop bags and hand bug. I didn't start to waving her arms. I calmly rolled down my window and she says you're parked a little close. I asked her, am I within the lines? She says, well, yes, but there are plenty of spots. I say I'll back out and she passively aggressively and rudely says, I hope

you have a really good Sunday, which I quickly reply. Thanks. I hope you learn how to park. Am I the jerk? No. That's fantastic. Teaching lessons. I mean, that's I also hope that that person learns how to park. I don't know that look, if you park over the line and then complain and acknowledge if the car park next to you is between the lines, there's no way that car is the jerk. The overline parker is the jerk. You're definitely what happened. You're flirting with jerk, jerk tendencies, though. If there are open spots that you don't necessarily have to park next to that person, but I do support the the teaching of the lesson. I mean, I guarantee you what happened is that lady, there is no cars there. She was like, ah, nobody's going to care. Just zip down. I'll just run in real quick. It doesn't matter. And then it did. And we should all it's not difficult to park between the lines. Well, sometimes, you know, might take a couple tries. And that's okay.

I don't think anyone should feel ashamed if it takes you a couple of times to get in between the lines. And if you park the car, you get out and you realize your own the line, it takes five seconds to correct the mistake. So just correct your parking mistake. I'll do that all the time. I got back in the car like three times last week one day. I just could not get it in there. Man, for some reason, in our garage, on the right side, the farthest side from the elevator, I cannot park between the lines on the first time. That's why I'm always on the side Travis where you normally park or even the road before that. I don't know what it is about that right side. It gets me six times out of 10. And that's where Matt parks every day every day. There's no pedals over there to trip. Well, I don't know if it's depth perception. I have no clue. But I am 60% of the time when I get out, I'm on the line. What the hell? I'm in the other parking space and I'll back in and I mean, try to correct it and I'm still on the

damn line. I know I moved over. How am I in the same spot? So if you guys have noticed, I haven't parked over there in months. I just can't do it. I don't know why. I was wondering what this was about. I'm trying. I'm trying to correct it. At least you acknowledge it and you try to correct your parking. As long as you correct it, it's not a big deal. Right. Right. All right. Hello boys. I went to my dermatologist appointment this afternoon and the waiting room was quite full as it as is often the case. There were limited places to sit and across from me was a lady who was in her late 50s early 60s. I myself, I mean my late 50s. She was buried in her phone like most people in a waiting room. However, she was playing a game that think it was candy crush or something similar and she had the volume up too loud for a waiting room environment with the constant bells and cash sounds. And I was also thinking aren't you too old to be playing this? I had nowhere else to sit and could tell some others were getting annoyed as well. I couldn't take

it any longer and I finally had to say something. I politely asked her if she wouldn't mind turning the volume down. And as expected, I was met with the glaring look like how dare you be rude to me. She huffed. So I did turn the volume down a tad and unfortunately before it could escalate any further outside. And fortunately before it could escalate any further, she was called back and the candy crush was didn't crushed. And my other jerk for asking her to turn down the volume or should have just waited it out until one of us were called back. Love the show. Hope you guys continue for many years. No, you're not the jerk for especially if you go excuse me, do you mind turning that down since you're in a public setting and no one else is listening to anything audibly? Is that you don't have to add all the extra. I know. I know. But you don't just go excuse me. Excuse me. Do you mind turning that down? And if they say yes, you go, okay, and then you sit next to them. You turn your phone on and you turn it on something loud, sitting right next to them. I don't understand the people that will watch videos without headphones just in a public

place are taking a call on a speaker phone. Like it is and I do. And this may be wrong. And I'm going to apologize beforehand. Feels like it is age related. Feels like the older we get, the more we are oblivious to the surroundings or the etiquette of what needs to be done out in public. Well, the kids always have their air pod in any way, whether there's something playing in there or not. So they're already equipped. The olds are just walking around with that block in their hands and putting it at the highest volume it could possibly be on the highest text they can fit on there. I play games on my phone all the time in public. And guess what? It's on silent the way it's supposed to be. You don't need to listen to it. That's over the top. You don't need the wireless headphones or anything. Just who cares if when you when you when you get the high school and you hear the bells, you know it's there who cares. So I don't think he was the jerk for asking. Just knowing that

the but the results are going to be that she's going to take some offense to it. It's probably what will stop me from doing it in the first place. I'll just she's it. I think some people get offended when you point out that there's other humans on earth and that they don't they don't have the entire world of themselves. They kind of get what what what do you mean? I am I'm not the only person in here. They don't like that. Like she was thinking that he was rude to her, but she was actually truthfully being rude to everyone else because you know, having everyone all in her game all in their conversation or music anything like that. We don't I don't want to hear that. And you should know that's just when you see these people that will talk on their phones in public like on speaker phone or whatever. Having a full conversation and then you get act like you're on your phone next to them and they get mad at you because now the person that they're talking to on speaker phone is also hearing you talk. You've definitely had fake phone calls standing next to those people haven't you? Oh yes. Yeah, it's something I can't I'm just not going to fake the phone

call, but you will give the look and you know what? The look doesn't do a thing for a lot of people. So I don't know what I think I'm accomplishing by looking like are you seriously doing this right now? Because every now and then you'll go, oh, oh, oh, you know what? I'll call you back or something like that. But the majority of the time they just they just don't care. Pretty wild, man. It is very wild. All right. Invasion. Seattle based P1 here. My wife and I took our two sons to see the Harry Potter play Saturday night dinner reservations were limited. So we ended up at a nicer more expensive restaurant that we'd normally choose with the kids because they had a table available. Nothing on the menu was really speaking to me. So I ordered the $26 cheeseburger. I asked our server how they know these. Cook it. She said medium and but they prepared however I wanted. I ordered medium rare. It came out well done. My wife with my wife's blessing. I sent it back because it was a $26 burger. The replacement came out medium well.

Still nowhere close to the medium rare. I ordered and not even the medium they supposedly served by default. My wife didn't want me to send back a second burger. We had a show to get to. So I ate it. There was one thing. Other thing irritating me at the bottom of the menu was a disclosure that the restaurant adds a 4% surcharge because of rising costs and keeps 100% of it. On the bill, it was vaguely labeled something like a Seattle surcharge. Am I feeling if you need 4% more, raise your prices 4%. Don't advertise a $26 burger and tack on a restaurant and pose fee that sounds like something the city requires. Then the restaurant manager emailed my wife that night asking how our experience was. She forwarded to me. So I told him. I politely but directly explained that a $26 burger should be cooked correctly, especially after being sent back once. And that I thought the restaurant surcharge was misleading and should simply be incorporated into its menu and prices. Am I the jerk for sending back the burger and then when the manager asked for feedback,

giving him the full scouting report? No, I don't think so. I mean, if you order a burger medium rare and it's truly well done, I think that they have to expect that you just go, excuse me, you know, I ordered medium rare and you kind of show it to the waiter and go and this is well done. I would assume the waiter goes, Oh, wow. Okay. Yeah. Let me fix that for you. Yeah. That's way too far off. If the manager is asking, Hey, what is your feedback? I'd like you to tell me and then you tell him what your feedback is. I don't know that that's jerk. And I mean, depending on how he worded the email, there are ways of doing that that could be jerk, but I don't think either of those just on the surfaces a jerk at all. There's definitely the feeling of being a jerk when you're sending back your food. But I think at these prices and at this level of restaurant, like you, you expect them to get these things correct. And if they don't, then it should be kind of incumbent on them to make an effort into making it right. And feedback is exactly what they want. Right. Well, there's good or bad. You have to accept the good with the bad as far as feedback goes. So I don't

think he did anything wrong with that. It's even sending it back because if you order it, if you are in medium rare and it comes out medium, then I would probably think that you just say, you know what? Maybe it's just overcooked the tad. I think I'll be fine. And I will probably say I wouldn't send it back. But if it's you order medium rare and it comes out well done, that's too far apart. That's the way to go apart for you to to accept. So you send that back. And then the second time, if it's medium well, you'll, I may even think about it the second time. Like, man, I'm really, and I will probably over explain myself, well, maybe which will make it worse just to say, man, this is medium rare, medium well. It's, it's just too far apart. Yeah, I'm with you, man. I mean, a burger may be not just personally, but a steak. If I order to steak medium rare and they brought it out as well done, I'd send it back. If they brought it out medium well, then I might have to, that's what I might say. May I speak to your manager and just be like, I'm just curious,

what do you guys consider medium rare here? Because I feel like what my expectation and what you were giving me is different. So maybe I'm missing the way you guys are interpreting that. Yeah, maybe okay. But I think a lot of people will feel like you are being a jerk if you ask for the manager in that particular setting. Maybe we need to get past that and say, look, I'm medium to medium rare is one thing. Medium rare to medium well is just something that I just prefer. If I'm paying these prices for the food, I would like to get it at least close to my preference. Honestly, for me, having weighted tables, they never bothered me if somebody asked for the manager because a lot of the times I can't solve the problem at a certain level. And I've got multiple other tables that I've got a deal with. So for me to go get the manager, like, hey, I'm, they can't figure out what they want or we're not cooking it right. Can you please go help me out with this? And sometimes I would just send the manager over anyway because he can go or she can go directly to the kitchen. Right. Like, hey, guys, this is what this table needs. Let's make sure we

get this right. And that way it's not me and I'm taking care of my other tables. I honestly don't think it's a bad deal. I think in our heads, we go, oh, I want to speak to the manager. All of you, it must be horrible. And it's not always necessarily that way. Well, there you go. That's M of the jerk for this week. Please send in those scenarios. M of the jerk 1310 at gmail.com.
