The Invasion- SEC vs LSU

While watching the Colorado Georgia Tech Game, right before half time you got the breaking news, and I was shocked. I honestly thought, even though it was a judge in Baton Rouge, I truly thought that they would rule that, hey, okay, there's too much going on here. We're not going to keep this going. But we were all wrong because a court-rolled last night in favor of LSU and makes Dequan Wright and Xavier Harris, the two main players involved here that played for Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss that both signed NFL contracts,

1:01makes those two players eligible to play for LSU. And that is Judge William Jordan who approved a preliminary injunction. It prohibits the NCAA and the SEC from punishing any school that were to put them on the field. Now, this ruling does not apply to all athletes. It's only those that are named in this specific lawsuit. And what's crazy about this is after Sanky was on the stand yesterday and multiple people with the conference and then trying to explain in their view, they just reaffirmed rules and kind of expanded on the rule they already had in place. The plaintiffs in this case, the LSU attorneys, were saying that no, they believe that they made up new rules in response to the original temporary restraining order. The judge agreed with them and said, that sounds like an awful lot of wide open collusion in ruling favor of LSU.

2:04Like you do get to a point where you hear something you don't like and then you want to make a rule about it because even when it was first going down, my question to you was, to you was it like is it going to be immediately all those the people that are in this lawsuit now, they kind of grandfathered it in and saying, after this batch of players, then no one from the NFL, if you went to the NFL or signed a contract is allowed to come, like it's just so convoluted to try and figure out everything that's going on. Even when we spoke with Greg McElroy asking him about it and like, man, you're good as good as mine, I don't know. Because very legally. Right, it is, but it's just so, you just, because what's what's stopping the SEC now from getting another judge to say that judge is full of crap. Which is what they're doing because this is a state court ruling. Right. It only applies to these players that are in this specific lawsuit. There are other judges and other states that have not ruled like this judge in Louisiana. South Carolina, for instance, was trying to get a guy that had signed and that didn't happen. So the SEC filed a federal lawsuit in federal court yesterday.

3:09If that judge rules in favor of the SEC that supersedes this state court ruling in Louisiana. I know one of you so fired up for Rutgers and you miss. Man, I'm telling you to get all this stuff out of your head so you can just concentrate on football. And so the rule, and this has nothing to do with this, but there is a rule in the SEC that you must finalize your roster 24 hours before your first game kicks off. So since LSU plays tomorrow night, they have to finalize their roster by whatever time that is seven o'clock tonight. That this is the roster of our 105 players that we're going into the season with. So now LSU has to weigh. Do we want to put these players on our roster? Because one of them's been practicing with LSU the last couple of days. Do we want to put these players on our roster and play them against Clemson and run the risk that this federal court judge over rules does state court judge.

4:10And then does that mean that the SEC can go in and punish LSU with the 50% suspension of lane kick in the million dollar fine. All this. Because gracious again, is it worth it? And that's where I know you want to be the bad boys of college football, but is it worth you risking that over those players? You have two guys that are coming in and one that Xavier and Harris say he's not going to be ready for another couple weeks, right? He's not going to play against Clemson, but they call right said I'm ready to go. I practice. I'm ready to go to play against Clemson. If you run into risk of the expectations that you have in that school to win national championships, that the courts will say that dude is ineligible. Does it take the win away if you win that game by 40 points? And they say, well, you use an ineligible player. You you forfeit that game is a now loss. And the keep in mind that the college football playoff, the executive committee of that

5:10had been talking about because they are not a part of the NCAA. This is its own championship that these teams play in that they are considering if you play a player who had signed a pro contract, you are ineligible for the playoff. So we don't know if they're going to come out and say that and LSU has to decide because that that would be outside of what the SEC wants to do the LSU. And since they weren't named in the in the lawsuit from yesterday, right? The college football playoff committee could just say, well, no, here's our rule for this year. You can't you're ineligible to play in the playoff. And so the weird thing about this ruling from yesterday is that the judge in this case enjoined the LSU LSU as a football team and all these other teams as well. It's not just football players. The SEC sanky all these guys. They enjoined them from doing anything to negatively impact the players. So until the federal court rules, it almost reads as if you have to roster them because that's what they want.

6:16And if you don't, it negatively impacts the players. And then therefore you're going against a court order. And that means that the SEC under this ruling can't do anything to punish them. Can't levy any penalty against LSU or anything against the players because that would violate this court order. So then what I don't know is if that's the case and then say today or next week or whenever the federal court reverses the ruling, can you retroactively go and punish them when the state court ruling said that you couldn't. Oh my gosh. And I don't know the answer to that question. I'm assuming that because the state court, that's the ruling that works until the federal court rules that anything that happens under this ruling, you couldn't go back and retroactively punish. It would just be, hey, let's say next Labor Day's Monday, let's say Tuesday, the federal court judge goes, hold up. No, they played against Clemson, but no, you can't play anymore. And the SEC then would not be able to do

7:17anything because that was under the state court ruling. That would have to be the logical thinking, right? That's what I would think. But I don't know. Is there any one thinking logically at LSU? Like seriously, like you have all these like really gay rebel head coaches of all your programs, that almost want to turn their nose up to everything that's going on because they're above everything. And just to say the risk is not worth the reward. It's not your starting quarterback. It's not your starting running back or ad Russia or anything like that. It's players that you feel that you can find anywhere on your own team. Yes. That will have the same talent that those players will have. But an LSU is the only one willing to touch this because there was a lawsuit in Texas this past week where a judge granted similar protection to three other players who signed NFL contracts that have not said which college team they would join if they do end up returning to school. LSU is the only program that is out there saying, yeah, we're going to get these guys,

8:19although they haven't said for sure that they're going to roster them. They have just been practicing with them. But this is not just Louisiana. And that's the whole thing where it almost feels like there needs to be a federal court that rules and goes hold up. Since different states are saying different things. The thing is with these other kids, there isn't a program out there. And they're not saying where we would go play. And there's not another program out there saying we're going to play you because it almost feels like everybody is waiting to see what's going to happen with LSU. Man, it just feels like with these conferences, they'll spray it out now. No, it's not regional anymore with these power conferences that it feels like the conference should be able to set up their own rules to say this is how we're going to enforce. And this is how we're going to play. Right. That's what it feels like. But man, we're again, just like with NIL, how things kind of got out of control. This has gotten out of control. It's insane. And if you just don't like anything. Right. But don't worry about it. Take it to court because you'll have at least a little bit of time to try and see if you can maneuver it the way exactly the way you want it. And it is because I

9:24know some people are concerned, well, it's unfair to freshmen. They're going to lose their roster spots. LSU has open roster spots that they have kept open. So again, you could argue, well, these players didn't exist. That would have gone to freshmen, but they're not cutting anyone. No one currently on the team is going to get kicked off the team if they decide to roster these guys. Yeah, I don't worry about that too much. If you were good enough, you'd be playing no matter who's out there and available. You would think. Yeah. And the other part of this is that the leadership council, which again is probably upper classmen, but the leadership council of LSU, which is all their players, which weeks confirmed this, they unanimously agreed. Kiffin went to them and said, hey, we're thinking about doing this. Are you guys cool with that? And to a man, the leadership council said, yes, we want whoever you think can help us win. And they told Kiffin, bring them in. I would love to know if he thoroughly explained all the ramifications. Like you can welcome to the leadership council and say, man, we have two really good players that want to come in and help out the team. Would you be guys up for that? And yeah, what guy would say no? But if you're explaining

10:30everything that could possibly happen, right? And put it all out there on the table. I wonder if those their minds would change. I know I would. If I'm thinking about all these ramifications, you mean to tell me that we're doing this for a tight end and a defensive tackle to come in. And that could derail this entire season where we have championship aspirations, right? Because they can enforce their rules of the, you know, the coach suspended half the season and out. No, that's not worth it. Yes. And that's where I don't know the answer if the if they get ruled in favor of the SEC and the federal court does that mean, hey, as long as you take them off because now the SEC can punish you starting immediately. And then if they go, okay, well, we kick these guys off the team, you, it seems because the SEC can't do anything right now. As of right now, the the SEC cannot do a thing to LSU or these players, otherwise they're violating a court order. So until another court order comes along, they have to allow this to happen. If LSU so chooses to

11:35do this, it feels like that they are going to because they're LSU and they can. And it's just because I do feel that Lane Kiffin, everybody is ripping Lane Kiffin and you can rip them. Rip them all you want. Fine. He has bosses that have to approve this. And to me, the AD and the president of the university, Wade Russe, where is the president of the university allowing if you believe it's Lane Kiffin going, oh, well, we're going to do this. They, the guy who runs the whole damn university has to allow this to happen. And that's why I asked you, is there anyone thinking logically? And it's you and it's not just the coaches. It's everyone that's involved. Like to me, why isn't someone at LSU going to Lane Kiffin, the people who hired him, yeah, and are paying him? Why aren't they going to Lane going, hey, dude, we're not going to do

12:36this. The entire rest of the SEC doesn't want to do this. It's just not worth it. But are they blindly following the guy that they pay him a 13 million to say, I'm going to bring a national championship here. So this is how we're going to do it because it's, it's, it's more than the football program. Again, in this specific lawsuit, I think it's a 42 athletes or something like, yes, and just in this group in the Louisiana group, 11 men's basketball players, five softball players, four women's basketball players and two LSU soccer players who have already been competing. And there's this whole argument because the NCAA has allowed multiple athletes and dozens of current sports that are allowed to compete, despite having previously earned money professionally in European basketball leagues. So the argument on part of this is, why is it just if they go pro and America? Because you're already in, and it has been happening that players have played in Europe and in different sports and have come back and played. So this whole thing is so weird and convoluted. But I just don't get why the hell the president of LSU goes, we're not doing

13:41this. Sorry lady. Right. Everyone just kind of gather around. Use the other 103 guys on your roster to win. It's not worth it for these two. Yeah, go get two more guys that are eligible to come in if you need the help or the athletic director of LSU to say the same thing, but they're like, no, Lane, whatever you want.
