I'm good. Are you tracking the Edmonton Oilers training camp, the lines, the parings, the Mike Babcock yelling? Are you sitting down and taking notes? I am not. I did that the year I went to university. I walked over to the Golden Bear Arena and that did not go so well. So I've always felt it was bad luck for me to do that.

1:04So I have not done it. I have not done it. Yeah, I think that there are stories that can come out of that and they do feed a very hungry fan base. But Babcock said it yesterday, he said, look, I, as some players surprised me and we sort of put the lines and parings together. Like we thought it might work, but I need to see them behind the bench for a few games and hopefully I'll know by the time the regular season begins. And that seems to me like a very honest assessment by the coach. Yeah, it's funny because he's required to talk, but I'm guessing he doesn't, he doesn't really have much to say. Like what do you want me to say? I don't know anything like that's a stupid answer, but that that very well, well, maybe his answer. Like I don't know anything because I think the older you get, maybe in a lot of ways, the smarter you get and the less you say and the more you think that probably makes some more sense and he may have learned that lesson better than anybody. But I just can't imagine what you would have to say over over one day. I mean, I read that he said his feed herd. Okay, I'll buy that.

2:08But otherwise, I'm not sure there's anything of substance anywhere. Yeah, I wish I'd learned that about, you know, saying less as you get older and thinking before you say things. You wish you'd learn, dude. You'd learn. Well, you know, I mean, you make your choice, right? So the, the, the Connor Halibuk thing keeps coming up and I, I feel kind of bad for the jets, but I, I feel like there's a lesson to be learned here. I'm reading people saying, well, they got to make a move here. They can't, you know, hang them on the line here. It's a bad indication to the other veterans. And I'm like, you know, Kevin Lo Trader, Chris Prager over the summertime. And they were just garbage that year in the year after they'd gone to the final because they didn't have, they couldn't sign the players that they had acquired like Spasheck. And then they traded Prager for a group of young players, like Lottieslead and, and, and, Jeffrey Lupe, they find young players, but they weren't veterans like Prager. And I think that the jets rightly have a concern about that. They don't want to go too young.

3:12And yet there's all this pressure. Where do you land here? I think they should hold off before they, and get something good that they can use this year. Do you feel the same way? It's so hard. I'll be honest with you. I'm going to pull a Babcock here. I don't really know what I think because you have to help me. You have to help me. The reserve clause Andy, Mr Smith, the Lou Brock was at the Kurt flood was involved there. Right. Yeah, Dave McNally. Right. Right. Right. Right. We're early 70s. Right. 75 or 6, I think it was. Yeah. I'll buy that. I need no. So there's a small part of me that says, players being, you know, having to play for teams forever is ridiculous. But then there's another part of me that says, well, I don't really want to play for that team. I mean, I don't want to follow the Ontario Hockey League. I think the Brampton Steelheads just created a guy to Sudbury for 17 draft picks. I saw that I wanted to play guy wanted to play in Sudbury. You want to play in Brampton. If you've ever been to Brampton, you might see why. But so I really, I don't know where I don't know where I land on that.

4:21I was a judge in court and I had to listen to this case. I don't know what I listen to. Connor Hello, Buck doesn't want to play with it. So what do you do? Do you just say, okay, no problem. We'll, we'll, we'll solve it for you. Or do you say you dig in your heels and I don't think the team can win. But the longer he sits out, the worse it is for him because as you know, every day to a player is one last day you can play for the rest of your life because there's an end coming. And it's I don't have an it. I understand why he'd want out, but I also understand the position the jets are in like, what do you do? Like you can't just roll over every time this happens. It's it's it's been a thing in sports for a very, very long time. I will tell you that if you were a judge, I would tell my lawyer to settle before we got to trial. You would do you would love me as a judge. Oh no. No. You're as emotional as I am.

5:24I listen to every angle that I angst about. I can't fully I listen. I'm going to the kitchen now. I'm going to get a knife. I'm going to stab myself in the chest because it would hurt less than what I just heard from you. I watch trial 12 angry men, the original about once every two years. I love that movie, but it scares the hell out of me about how how that kid is just teetering, you know, and and there's one guy standing up for him. And I'm sure that happens in, you know, in a judge and jury cases. It's it's it's tough, man. The responsibility is a boat as heavy as it gets, my friend. I could be a judge though. I would like to do that. But you hardly ever go from TV producer straight to judge. Yeah, there's a reason. Yeah, there's no direct line. Yeah. By the way, Brampton is the third largest city in the greater golden horseshoe behind Toronto and Mississauga. And it's the ninth most populous municipality in Canada. Did you know that?

6:26Dude, I lived in Toronto for 37 years. I know I know all about Brampton. If you took a bowl of vanilla and you you you you stirred it up and you poured it out over the over the north of the Toronto airport. That's it. You got Brampton. Okay. 7:36And what about where's Don Mills? I know that I had to send my craft coupons or close fax semiles to Don Mills. Yeah, you did with a Don Mills six or six or nine. I can't remember. Maybe that was maybe that was serious in Chicago. I can't do many game shows when I was growing up buttonville to Don Mills with no traffic is about 11 minutes. Okay. All right. All right. Good to know. Good to know. So I want to talk to you a little bit about the the junior hockey AJ getting going all around here. Well, Kings as well getting going. I know you're a big fan of it. I love that you are. Do you have your tickets ready? You got your schedule ready? You're going to watch the spurs of the connects. What's going on for you? This is the spurs. Just because I mentioned 1970s, there's no spurs anymore. I think they're the blackfolds. What are they blackfolds? Yeah, I see their sign. They look cool. Yeah. No, the game is tomorrow, first games tomorrow. Yes, I will be going five o'clock media pass, of course.

8:40And then they play against Sunday in the afternoon against Fort McMurray. I can't remember who they play tomorrow. Oh, drum hell. They're playing the drum hell. I dragged it tomorrow. Yes, I'm already got the scorchie ready. The clipboards ready. Oh, the whole deal is just just completely ready to go. I used to I honest to God, I used to be so involved in the HHL. I'd watch the the wrestlers play in olds. I'd drive down to olds and watch the Grizzlies versus the wrestlers on the like the Thursday or Friday night. And then they'd play back in red deer on the Saturday night. And that was the old building and freeze my feet completely off. But it was great hockey, man. I remember Ray Podlowski played for the wrestlers. I really liked him. There's nothing like hockey where the players are trying to get somewhere that NHL, I love the NHL, but they're already there. I love watching it where they don't know where they're going to be. I have coffee every morning with a guy who's cousin is trying to for the brand and weak King. Now he's ended up with the Drayton Valley funder. He's very disappointed. There's another one of the relatives down in I can't remember somewhere in Texas in the NHL.

9:49And it's just fascinating to hear about these kids just trying to live their dream and some will get it and many will not. I've heard, you know, from people that I know and relatives of mine who have kids who played in that Texas league and they get paid pretty well. This is still a major junior age. So yeah, and I it's not Amarillo. I can't remember the name of the town, but that's where he's gone. And that'll drive down there like twice a year from Calgary and see him play, but he just wants to play. They just want to play and they can't he can't. Yeah, I can't find a place closer here. I think last year we played for Winnipeg in the Manitoba junior hockey league, unless I'm mistaken. I won 111 low down with low tide on sports 1440 on YouTube Steve Lansky from inside the truck podcasts slamming Brent and can't remember the names of Texas towns. That's why we love him. I wanted to your your I don't think I'm older than you, but you remember the Elks slash Eskimos in the last, you know, 45 years or so.

10:58And I remember there were years where we could wrap up the title in the West division by Labor Day. The Eskimos would be so far ahead. And so it doesn't sound like it's exciting, but watching this Elks team rise from the ashes like a Phoenix after going 7-11, two years in a row. It looks like they got a hope they are secure in having a playoff spot looks like they're going to go home game and they might be able to host the Western final plus I think that people are starting to come around on the idea they could win when the break up, although Montreal would have something to say about it. Are you on the bandwagon here for the Elks or is it just the distant bell for you? No, totally. I'm totally on the bandwagon. I watched the Labor Day classic. I was going to go, but the weather in Calgary with like four degrees and pouring rain. Yeah. And I thought an attempting, but no. But yes, I'm totally on board. I mean, I get it. We love the late 70s and early 80s when we lived in Emmerton. All Eskimos fans did, but it sucked for the rest of the league.

12:06I mean, you know, what was the break up where auto actually came close? 81. They were ahead of the half time. Yeah. Yeah, right. So I mean, that was, you know, nerve-wracking, but the rest of them. And after they, so helped me out then 8901 to what year did they blow it with the staples in Montreal? Yeah, it was 41. 6 maybe. Yeah. So that was not fun to watch at all. And so I vividly remember thinking, OK, I, you know, I don't want to see that again. So fortunately, we didn't for a long time. But Evan, since that's a great football town. And they're just, they deserve everything they get. Whereas I like it if the Argos win, but nobody in Toronto gives a rats rear end about the Argos. They just don't, and they really don't care and Brampton about the Argos Hamilton. I like to see when I can cheer for underdogish type teams. And I think the Elks are that now because they haven't been, you know, worth watching for a while.

13:08Yeah, I'm looking forward to this weekend's game. Elks at Toronto for a couple of reasons. Number one, if they win, it puts more pressure on Saskatchewan and the Elks do have a chance to win the division. And I like watching Chad Kelly, I think is the nephew of Jim Kelly. And the reason I do is because he throws almost as many interceptions as touchdowns. So it's high event football, no matter who they're playing in Toronto. But I do also remember the times where if the Argonauts weren't going to make the playoffs, it was a national emergency. Like they were like, Oh, Toronto's not me. Toronto doesn't make the playoffs a big deal. And you know, I don't think I'm still that way. But you're right about Toronto. Like Toronto is like getting, you know, free matches at a restaurant. Like it's all, OK, I'll take two because I barbecue, but it's not like it's a big deal there. No, it's not. And soccer is kind of taken in. And I think they've taken a lot of that fan base away, which is fine.

14:09And I think when the Argonauts played in Skydome, I don't think it did the many favors. It now exhibition stadiums sucked. I think we can all agree on that. If you, if you were ever there, you'd be like, why are we the weather I ever come and watch a game here. But Skydome was not great for football. It was loud. It was cavernous. The seats were far away. It wasn't great for football. I like their venue now, but they've kind of missed the boat and pun intended and a bunch of the fans that are, you know, now you can get a little harder into the Leafs. The Raptors were really worn around in those days. So Toronto's a really fractured market. And if you find an Argonauts fan in Toronto, it's kind of a rare breed. It really is. Well, I think the Argos fans in Toronto are the owners, you know, of the team. And that's what's keeping it alive. And, you know, somebody grew up watching pinball and they're off to the races and they buy the club and they try their best. But it's a tough road to hoe. And I think it's typical of Canada where the one sport that all of Canada loves aside from hockey is the one that Toronto's kind of man about and wishes that they could get an NFL team.

15:17Yeah, and you know what, that gets so much talking Toronto not so much anymore because obviously they don't have a stadium that would house an NFL team in Toronto. But man, when the bills played one or two regular season games there feels like 20 years ago, you could probably look it up and might have been more. I mean, that was a big deal. But the bill, I mean, when you think about it, you got screwed out of a bills gamer to home in Buffalo, like that would never happen now. But Toronto honestly thought they were going to get an NFL team at that point. They never had a single chance in an NFL team. But Toronto fans care way more about the NFL than they do about the Seattle. Beautiful. All right. Have a great weekend. You're the man. Appreciate you, Steve Lansky. Hi, my fan Max here.
