We can get a chance in our number one to talk about what a beautiful day yesterday was. I love 27 in the fall because you've still got that cool breeze coming across the deck as you pop another bruski and go, all right, it's time to check the Barbie. It's got a great, great time to live in Alberta and we know what's coming, but we don't have to talk about it. Are you getting a new car before winter? Are you going to try to get through the winter with that thing? I'll probably be keeping the same car for a little while. Maybe in the middle of winter I'll end up getting a new one. Do you can plug an energy of shelter that you can use? Yes, I have a spot with a plug, but I also have to move. Maybe we'll get under, I'm parking, depending on where we go. Do you have battery heater or anything like that? I do have a block heater in my car. I don't know, you okay. You've got, like, if you needed it, could you route the battery and something because that
could help you. I don't worry about you. I don't know a lot about cars, but I know when they don't start, it sucks. I've only had one car problem my entire life and it's because it died, but other than that, I guess technically too, because my last car, the battery had issues and then we changed it and big bang boom, everything was fine. But you did the same thing I did when it died. You cleaned out the glove compartment and then waited for a car to drive by. No actually, the car drove by first before I cleaned out the glove compartment. Either way, you're fine and healthy now. I just want to make sure you're both... Yeah, I'll be like, listen, the car is not a piece of garbage. It's just got a lot of kilometers on it. Well, there's nothing wrong with that. Cars with lots of kilometers on it, chances are they're going to last longer than some of the newer ones because all the things that could have gone wrong in your car already have. Nothing like a straight shooter. Rachel, love it from Vic.
You guys going to give love to my Gator's deck? Big win against Auburn this weekend. They play Ole Miss next weekend and they're actually favored and I'll tell you Todd, I just made my top 25 earlier today. I had Florida coming in at 18. They are 21 in the official poll. I had them at 18. That was a good win against Auburn and their favorite against Ole Miss at home next week, which is going to be a big game. That used to be Coach Bowden, was he there? He was, Florida State. Florida State. Okay, alright, I get the mix up because neither of those schools have a lot of prisoners, but the other ones do. Urban Meyer was there when they were criminals and winning natties and stuff. Yeah, yeah, I got you. We had so many comments about Rachel. She was talking about Ottawa and Toronto and Southside chain says Ottawa is better than they were last year. They'll be fine. And then we had a lot of Leafs people chiming in as well. That first 20 games they want to sell. They've got to make a, like if they're 5, 5 and 1 after 11, there should be an investigation.
If the audits have a, managed to have a successful season, I hope all of these out of town media people remember to eat some humble pie. Well, I think what she said was it was risky, right? Like I don't think people are looking past the fact that they got me. David Drysaddle, easy schedule, Boo Shard. You'd like the goal to need to be a little more solved, but in fairness, you know, we haven't seen Levi in a game. Jari is healthy again. And you know, she made the point about Anderson. He might be, he might be exactly what the doctor ordered. We got to wait for him to get healthy. And you know, the word we got was Savoy is like a month or less, like maybe late September October. And then after that, Anderson. But really, I mean, by then the author should be well on their way to winning the division. I think doesn't mean it'll happen. I mean, I, I, so far I can think we can, we can just begin to see what Nabcock wants.
He, he, I think the reason that he's so focused on getting the big center on the fourth line is he wants that line to be the hammer line, like to go out there and really just discombobulate the defense and Colton doc, if he can play center, man, he could do that. Remember when he was with Frederick last year, they were like a tandem. It was like watching Stampede wrestling. Well, I, you know, if Abcock saw a video of that, he'd go, I, that's what I want. So if you, if you need another penalty killer, then maybe Samansky doesn't make the team, although I would have him on the team. And then you run doc in the middle with Frederick or other. And you've got Matthew Joseph as well to kill penalties. And then eventually, Matt Savoy will come back. The odd man out in all of this is probably Max Jones. Who's got really good speed. And he did play well in the AHL, but I don't know that he would be a penalty killer for this team.
Good day with the orders. Give up Savoy and plus for Larkin out of Detroit. Sheldon just the noise. I, I, I mean, I think they give up a lot for Larkin, but he has a high salary. They need value deals. Savoy is one for another year. Yeah, you're, and then we'll see. But I, if I had a choice between Larkin and Halibuk, I think I'd try for Halibuk. That's my opinion. But Larkin, man, I'm sure they would be in the conversation. It's just a matter of, do they have enough? You guys are not talking about the two and O. Rades enough. Well, we did talk about them at the beginning of the show. Josh was all in on that. What I like about it is they haven't ruined their rookie quarterback yet. Well, he's not in the game. So obviously he can't be ruined. Well, that must be whoever thought of the idea of not throwing your, your big marquee. It wasn't your idea, man. Yeah, the buy idea.
It was not your first to ever think of it. No, I'm going to have to, I'm going to have to push back a little bit there. First ever, everybody's saying me, um, well, it's fancy to stop at Larkin. It's not going to a Canadian team. Well, you don't know that. You know, you, you honestly really don't, I mean, that could very well be, but I haven't, you know, the honest, I'm sorry, they have a better chance when the Stanley Cup did try or when a big and, um, so maybe that's what Larkin was. I don't know what happened with Larkin there in Detroit, but what I thought would happen, this is what should happen, right? Sometimes losing teams do losing things.
When you've got a situation where it looked to me like just about everybody was not happy with Isomin and the GM's chair. You replace them and then you hire somebody and then that guy goes drives out to the Larkin family ranch or whatever the hell it is. And sits down and goes, look, I'm offended for you. And I apologize to you on behalf of all the people involved in the Detroit Red Wings. We want you to be our leader. You're our guy. Whatever happened was so difficult and impossible really to get over. And I mean, that's unfortunate. Detroit, not so very long ago, was a model franchise and it may still be, but it doesn't sound like it is. Larkin has value, folks. He does. And the others would be interested in him. But again, that's another big contract.
I imagine we'll see a lot of future Bakersfield condors in tomorrow's game. Nouget with Heimann and Icoherd. I suspect we'll see that. Dickinson, I did not read if Dickinson was, I saw he was practicing. I think Rashog had that. But I didn't see that he was full throttle for tomorrow. Babcock has spoken to the media. But I'm not, I haven't listened to what he said. So there may be a Dickinson update and we'll get that from Jason or Jason will pass it along to you. Babcock wasn't happy with his team today. Which I mean, par for the chorus, right? He has like, he has certain things he wants. This is a Babcock team. You don't have the puck go get the puck.
It's exactly the same as Sutter when he was in Calgary. Laywood did just, you know, they would pursue the puck and pursue the puck. 45 second shifts. Another group out there pursuing the puck. The Sutter said it. He summed up the style of hockey that Babcock and Sutter play perfectly. And he said, everybody says there's playing defense in the NHL. Really, there isn't. You're either chasing the puck. The goalie makes this spectacular stop. The goal goes in. You take a penalty. Those are your options. So you got to get the puck back before it gets into your zone. And when it gets into your zone, you got to get the puck back as quickly as possible, because 10 seconds later, it's in the back of your net or you've taken a penalty. That's it. And that's what Babcock does. And that's what he'll do. So when you see Fomenton racing down the ice and you see doc at center and with good speed, it's pretty obvious what they're going to do. They are going to hammer the defenseman. They're going to turn over the puck. They're going to contest everything in the neutral zone.
If you've got a good active stick and you can intercept pucks like Nugin Hopkins, has been able to over many years and like dry sideline, but David can. They need other guys who can do that. And it means everybody hauls ass. That's what Babcock wants. So if you're slower, you have less of a chance. And if you can penalty kill, you've got a greater chance. So Max Jones might not make the team because he's not a penalty killer, but he has reasonable speed. I'm a little surprised, honestly, that they're trying doc at center, but they clearly see something in him that that allows them to think about using him there. Does he does he intercept pucks in the neutral zone? We know he's a big guy. We know he's he's absolutely willing to hit, but if they can turn him into a center, man, fill your hat.
But he's got to be effective. Those for me are the big story. So far, we haven't gotten to the goal tending yet because we really haven't seen it. You know, the first game, Jerry played well, wasn't against great players, but you know, he played well. I think he stopped 14 to 15 or something like that. So you've got that taken care of. Jerry was healthy. He played well, stopped all the poxies. It hasn't been really been tested. But so far, you know, he's like anybody else. He's ratcheting up. The top line was really good. Farmington was excellent. The doc line was good. Little little less impressed with the other two lines. Certainly some landscape, but he's going to get an opportunity in a feature role with New Jenoffgens and Hyman. And we'll see how that goes. And they got to make the decisions, man. It is common quick. And there's guys out there who are not signed and there's going to be trades and waivers and all those fun things. And I haven't been talking about the defense because I think the defense looks pretty good on paper.
And so far, what we've seen, Ryan Shay looks good. They got that comb back with Bouchard today. So now we find out if Shay is going to be the second pairing guy or it's going to be Wallamann. I mean, you could, you can mix and match all you want here. They got eight guys. I think Spencer Stashton is the eighth guy, but Emerson can play right side. Malcolm and Dylan's lefty, but he can play right side. Gives them lots of room to wheel. And eventually there will be injuries and that will take care of the any depth issue that you'd have. So defense isn't being talked about because there's not that much to talk about. There it seems as though that area is taken care of and the goaltending we're just going to have to find out because, you know, that in a real way, Tristan Jari hasn't had a chance yet healthy to show you what he's about. Now he should get a chance of the fall. I should leave. I and Anderson when he gets here. This is the most interesting training camp for the others since the year.
Mike David was a rookie in my opinion. And you say, come on, they've been to just Stanley Cup finals. Yeah, but they were always plugging in playing veteran guys. They're taking real chances here. Like I powered might be on a skill line. You've got a lot of bets here. Pod calls them playing on the top line. Dry side of the day, but together there's, there's bets here that could go a ride. Now they can fix them right away. But it's interesting and Babcock's reputation suggests that suppression of opposition offense will be a factor. And if they can cut down on the goals against the goals have all never really been a problem since big David arrived. Okay, Jason Rager on the way also at 140 today, it's declinations mama MMA. Book your free consultation at favor dot CA looking very dapper on a lovely day after a great weekend. Jason Gregor, how are you? I love great, man. You're good. Now you were down at the ring today. Babcock seemed a little, not like overly unhappy, but there were things he didn't like. He just said, well, it wasn't a pretty practice. There's lots of miss passes and it reminds me. I remember way back when during when the orders were, they were an OK team in like 20 set 2007. And I remember back then, you know, teams would practice and lots has changed like this. Visiting coaches used to watch the home team practice and was not considered a big of a deal. Now it's like, oh my god, you can't do that. But I remember watching the Red Wings practice one day and I'm sitting there and I'd taken some notes. And as I'm watching the practice and I'm like, they never miss a pass. And for me, like I'd watch the orders practices and there was miss passes at the time. So I've just asked that.
And Babcock was a young coach second year in whatever. And he just said, well, that's not me because that's that's our leader guys. Like they kind of set the standard that you don't miss any passes. And so, you know, I think that's something that I don't think David might have to to to become a little bit more vocal on because now none of these guys can make passes like dry stomach, David in a game. But in practice, when there's rarely people covering you, right? Like you're on, you're doing flow drills up and down the ice. Those passes should be on the tape. They should be flat and and it just, you know, it's kind of an ugly practice. Now it's in training camp. You know, some of these guys have yet to play a game. So they've been training camp for nine. I know it's only five or six days, but then it's throwing the captain skates for for eight, nine days. Some guys are probably just like, oh my god. Can we get can we get going here? So that might be part of it. We'll see by yeah, the coach made it clear like, hey, today wasn't up to to the standard that he would like. The the the opportunity is coming for Ike Howard with new and Zach Hyman. You know, he did not show well in the first game.
Now he was on a depth line. But the the opportunity is still there for him, but it's time it's I know it sounds ridiculous. Game two, but there's not a lot of preseason games. Howard's got to show something. Yeah, I just I don't know. I the Matt Savoy injury gives Howard a longer rope. What whether whatever now he can play more preseason games. Here's my understanding. So tomorrow nights roster, you're going to have Newgen Hopkins and Hyman and Howard and probably Walman and Murphy. You'll have a few more NHL players. Then the game in Vancouver is going to be like kind of bare minimum. I don't think you'll have a ton of them. And then the other guys who can play their second game, that'll be the home game against Calgary. On Saturday. So that's kind of what I'm hearing. And and I tweeted it out on the weekend because I got like the new exhibition rules and what Deem's like a meal. Vinnie is considered a veteran because he's a second round pick in the last three years. That's never happened before. And now it's a first round pick in the last five years. So I coward is considered a veteran for preseason games, right?
And then you've got a hunt Seth Griffith is a veteran because it's 400 NHL or HL games combined. So suddenly they have more guys deemed veterans because you need eight of them. And so that Vancouver game will definitely have some of those type of players involved. So because they've got a skeleton roster in Bakersfield. They got the same. The two gold is down Johnson and Day. More cuts will be coming. Do you anticipate that after the second game? Maybe the odd one after the second game, but because the Vancouver game is where they've got to get all those guys in. I don't think it happens to Friday. OK. All right. And I mean, they've got time in the NHL to work towards that. How is the like because I think after the game, I was, you know, the just monitoring the fan base. They were obviously very happy. Winnipeg didn't send their best or anything, but they're looked like there was precision. And you know, it's always interesting when a new coach takes over. He's not going to do what no block did. You know, obviously he's got his own ideas. But I thought Doc in the middle, we had heard about it possibly in the summer.
But he seems to like that line a lot. So Doc, Joseph and Formentin are guys who might have a little edge just because a speed, but also penalty killing ability and doc in the middle is a, well, you can see why they want it. He's a big guy who can hit. It's very good. Positionally. That's the one thing. He's got a very good stick in the defensive zone. I was watching. I'm not like point shmoins. And that's not what I watch for in the preseason for players. It's I was looking at where he was defensively. He can run over guys. You know, he's big and strong. And it wasn't just in the game because today when I asked Babcock about Doc, he was very quick to point out that that line was their best line of practice again today. So, you know, there's little things that you that you kind of notice. And like, I think the lines what we see now are what you're going to get early on. Now, how long do they last? I would say a week, right? Because he doesn't know what he has. Like, you know, I coward, give him some time early on. You know, Josh Samaski, are they going to keep him as a 13th forward? Are they going to keep Max Jones? And then let Samaski play a lot of minutes in the in the in the AHL, right?
Or did they look and say, well, let's just keep the center around because the orders, the orders have an I wrote it today at orders nation. I looked at the starts in the NHL up until the end of October. Emton has probably, well, not probably they have the best, they have the easiest schedule to start in the whole NHL. They don't plan back to back games. They only play 12 of 14, 12 of their 14 games are against teams below them in the standings last year, which means basically non-play off teams, except for Anaheim, right? An LA, I guess. And an LA might have the like, so you just added two games to the schedule. You started the scheduler. The LA Kings play six games in the first three weeks of the season, six in the first 21 days of the season. Yeah, they're not going to be fresh. Yeah, like it's wild. Like, yeah, they'll be fresh, but it's hard. You want to play and it's hard to get into a rhythm when you're playing and then you're off for three days. And then you're playing and then they got a five day break in between games in October. So I'm sure the Kings aren't, aren't loving their schedule. But Emton, I would think might have the easiest Vegas is probably close to it when it comes to start.
Minnesota by far has the worst start to the season. They've got five of their first 15 are at home and only eight of their first 26 are at home. So they are going to be road warriors early on. Have Minnesota gets through that and watch out for them because they would have a very favorable schedule. So Emton has a lot of reasons out with practice time and whenever and Babcock, he was very honest. He goes like, I don't know. And he's right. Like everybody's trying to say, Oh, this is going to be the lines forever. They're not. And I wrote the article last week about it. There's so much time spent on lines that's no offense kind of pointless because say, Hey, here's a line for tonight. All right. It doesn't mean it's a line for two weeks. It just means it's a line for that. It does appear that and we don't know how often they're going to run. And make David and drive saddle together, but home games and those sorts of things and we'll see how it turns out. Nude with Hyman on a second line. What? Let's take Howard out of the situation because, you know, he's obviously the candidate. But would you prefer to have a bigger guy like a pod calls in a guy or do you think maybe Savoy?
Because of his quickness might be a good man. Well, in theory, you have Hyman, who's a great Pucker treaver. Newton Hopkins is more of a passer than a shooter. Now he's not as good of a passer as dry saddle, but he's still like passing. He's always been more of his forte than shooting. Right. And he can transport the puck. So I and then Howard's your shooter, right? And he's quick. And now the one thing I noticed about Howard was he was really making a concerted ever to get to the net. That is clearly something I think the coaching staff has talked about is to get bodies to the net more often. And you know, that's music to my ears. I've talked about it. The orders of fenceman were number one percentage shot attempts that actually hit the net last year at 42 percent. Best in the NHL. But one of the lowest teams in rebound goals because they don't got a lot of bodies in front of the net. So I think fenceman's father is like, well, why did you throw in? Well, eventually you got to put a puck on net. Yeah. What he's done, put it in the corner all the time. Like how about get your ass to the front of the net? And it's a one thing I noticed from Howard and that preseason game was he made a concerted effort to try to fight his way to the net. I get he's more of a shooter, but I don't mind that combination.
You could swap pod calls and Howard, but I like, I know why they have pod calls and would dry settlement David because he's a puck retriever. Right. Right. And they can like, they can work along the wall. He and Leon could do that. That's the thing like you don't really need a, like it helps having a puck retriever. It's more so a guy who can cycle because David and dry is not a rarely chip and chase, right? Like they're so good. They can carry the puck into the zone around guys. Not a lot of players in the league can do that. So, you know, they'll switch out and try different things. You know what? Would I be shocked the way he played in one game? A foreman didn't got a game there or something? Cappanan is another guy who's played up with dry settles. So they'll have lots of options. Mike Babcock is admitted and I agree. I believe him. He doesn't know what his line combinations are right now. He's trying things and we'll see what happens. Like, Bouschard was back with that coma practice today. So even though she and Bouschard both had a really good game together. Any word on when Jason Dickinson might play in a game? Well, he practiced today. I think there's a chance he could play tomorrow. I don't think he's playing Thursday.
They could wait until Saturday if they want. So we'll see. If he doesn't play tomorrow, I'd be a little surprised if he's playing in Vancouver just based on what I've heard. So we'll have to see. But he was in practice. He took all the reps. He was up and down the ice. And I think that's just one of those early season. Let's be cautious. What if they send all the condors to Vancouver and they beat the Kanox A team? What happens then, Jason? Wow, the Kanox are like, let's go. The Kanox are in a rebuild here. Yeah. I'll say, I believe that Vancouver as much as, you know, the record matters a little bit for them. It's more about getting a better culture in Vancouver. And I really believe that with the sedans and Manimo Hocha, they have at least are going to do some things better as an organization. It's not going to lead to a ton of more wins, but it might lead to four or five more wins, right? And if all of a sudden you become a 70 point team or 75 point team, at least you can say, OK, we're progressing. They don't want another 58 point season. NFL weekend was wild.
It feels like a bunch of teams are already like the chargers. I mean, I don't know what Kanox is going to do today, but probably doesn't want to talk about the chargers. Oh, wow. We try to talk about it. Last week in deck and iron agreement that they lose that game to the Raiders. Like, they're the first team in NFL history in NFL history to lose both games at home. Against two teams who had a winning percentage of less than 200 a year prior. No. Like, it's, oh, sorry, should say second team. And the 26, yeah, the 26 and they only played three lead games and then they folded. Like, you know, now the chargers go into Buffalo. Like, are you kidding me? Like, and they're banged up, right? Like, now they're down. They've down two tight ends. They're down an offensive tackle. Watch his name, broke his finger. One of their best offensive players. Like, it is. It's a colossal nightmare. I'm like, Harba looks lost. No. Like, why are they? You've got one of the strongest arm quarterbacks and you're just dimming and dunking all day long. What the hell are you doing? Throw the ball down field.
Yeah, it was there was Buffalo looks good. The bangles look good. That, you know, towards Ohio and then over the Eastern seaboard. A lot of those teams are doing well. What about New Orleans, dude? Like, hey, don't sleep on the same. And now they're scheduled. Yeah, it's good. It's, uh, gets pretty darn easy. That's they could be two and all here. It's it's interesting game tonight too, but Dallas, Doc, did you see that throw he made? Yeah, I was pretty good throw man and and Cleveland won a game, Jason. Hey, what about the jet? How do the jets lose that game? That's like, honestly, like if you're a jet fan, you're like, God, this is par for the course, but they had that game. That should be a game that they win. But yeah, good, you know what? Hey, the NFL, there's there's always some wild outcomes in it. No question. Like the chargers, it like I know they had high aspirations this year. Yeah. If you have no expectations, you can accept being owned too. You have high expectations and not only Owen too.

Yeah. And then it was just like all their problems from early in the year came flooding back. They could not punch it in the red zone. Is it place selection again? A little bit of place selection. I thought a little bit of just, I don't think a player's made the right place in the in the red zone either. Yeah. You throw two interceptions. That's not necessarily play calling, right? So now the Elks had two interceptions in the end those themselves too defensively. So it was a it was a defense win game by both defenses. They'd say they won the battle. But the red zone hurt them and just ridiculous penalties. Unnecessary like pre-snap penalty. Something I know they've talked about. Mark Killam to his credit. Did not shy away from that. He's like, Hey, that's something internally. We got to take care of. And that now. Hey, you got Hamilton here. So every now and then I don't mind in the regular season a little bit of a wake up call because teams out that aren't that haven't been good for a while. I do believe there's a little bit of, you know, looking in the mirror, thinking you're
good. You start to believe you're good. And then their motion from the Labor Day and all that. I don't mind that lost a Toronto because yeah, okay, it maybe gives two points back. But they still control their own destiny. And now you come home and you beat Hamilton at home, right? Then you go into the buy, then you play Hamilton again, right? And you know, then you finish with Winnipeg and Saskatchewan and by then who knows what happens. But every now and then getting, getting knocked down a peg or two for a team that isn't at the top, I think it's a good thing. What's coming up on the show? I've got a busy show today. Yeah, Kevin Woodley is going to be by Sean Brown returns to the show after a long summer off. He's, you know, Brown is just skipping training camp even. He's kind of a late camera. We'll see you might have to get into run some laps around the mall here when he gets in. We'll talk about the Elks. Obviously, well, we'll talk and I thought, well, Deckon, I might talk and I thought Connor might just very quite I think Connors, I think Connors, Mike's going to be, you know, malfunctioning a little bit today. We'll see. But and I will have Connors, David, because all of the changes for the team now, there's
one position that is still wide open and there's really no front runner. The orders don't have a team DJ. Oh, well, Darnel Nurse was the team DJ for years. And I asked Conner about it today. And he's like, well, we were all for one. He didn't really like the music of game one that their DJ thought is a little too much rock and ball. Right. So and I asked him like, who are the leading candidates? Didn't necessarily want to say about I'll have to dig a little deeper to find like interest who's going to step up because I'm telling you that's an important now. It's a thankless job. Anyone who's ever done it, it's a thankless job because you're going to try to appease everybody. But it is an important job. You want to have good tunes in warm up, etc. So having the the resident DJ right now is a position that is up for grabs. Gianny Neenable used to play head banger metal from Finland, I think. Yeah. Well, that was only he'd only get like one day a year. But he, when he did, it was just like unbelievable off the, like that. Yeah, Gatley was like, like real heavy G metal. Yeah.
Like, oh my god. Yeah. Pulling out of a, oh, he, he, him and, him and Brent Sake, those two love that stuff. There's a lot of, two blonde haired clowns. There you go. All right, Jason, look forward to the show. Thanks. I have a good one. All right, Jason Gregor coming up at two o'clock today. Guide you through the rest of the afternoon. Declan's declination straight ahead, Mama MMA. Low down with low tide on sports 1440 and YouTube brought to you by Wolf GMC Buick. 143 on a lovely day. It's time for declinations brought to you by the Edmonton, Alex W. He has clinched a playoff spot working on that home playoff game and maybe the division cheer them on Saturday when they host the Hamilton tiecats get tickets at goelks.com slash tickets. And now ladies and gentlemen, Declan Cruiser. Yeah, let's talk a little UFC 331, the pay-per-view that was this past weekend. Starting with the main event, Josh van retains his flyweight world title against Alex Pantosha. He won it in kind of, I'm not going to call it a fluke way, but it was really early into the flight. Alex Pantosha broke his arm. Josh van made a defense against Tesla, Tyra waiting for Alex Pantosha to get back
healthy. I really like, you know, what Pantosha did in the flyweight division. I really liked his prospect of being able to win this fight. Like it wasn't too long ago. Josh van had that lost to, oh, I just got a double check here. Malcolm, who was it in the middle? Charles Johnson. Yeah, no, like it was, it was only about two and a half years ago now since then he's gone on an incredible run. And how about this for a Josh van stat? He has been in the UFC since 2023. He holds the record for most significant strikes landed at flyweight. He's been in the UFC for three years and he has the significant strike record for the division and a division that is historically, notoriously, an active division in terms of punch output. So in strikeout, but I should say in MMA. So the fact he's done that the way he was able to defend this title now 5045 on one of the scorecards way too wide. That's we got to investigate that. And Andy Foster, who is the California State Athletic Commissioner, he came out and said like, that's not right. We got to look at that. We got to see what's going on there. But regardless, the right guy won the fight and he looked really, really good doing it.
Exciting, exciting flyer. He's from fighter. He's from Myanmar, which is kind of cool, I think, since maybe a little bit out there. But he just put on an incredible performance against a guy who I think is really underrated. He's obviously not the best flyweight of all time. That's Demetrius Johnson, probably always going to be Demetrius Johnson. But he put on a really good performance against a guy who I think is historically underrated for his stature in the flyweight division. Tomate event, Armin Surukey and Noctam Rusio Huffy in the first round with a vicious elbow. Vicious couple elbows, really. I've been beaten this drum for a while. Armin Surukey and with Islam up at welterweight, he's the best lightweight on the planet. I think he is overdue with title shot. I think he beats Justin Gachi with ease. I think he would have beaten Iliah Taporia when Iliah Taporia had been the champion with ease. I think he has a very, very strong wrestling base. He can strike. He has been in there with some of the best fighters in the world. He made his UFC debut at 23 years old against Islam Makashev. He knows what it takes to fight at that top level. He's been doing it for a while now. I think he's the best lightweight on earth and I would fully assume he gets the next title
shot because like I said, it's overdue. Sean Sharaff, we have a new winner for the biggest upset via the betting odds in UFC history. Sean Sharaff was a minus. Well, actually, let me phrase it this way. Gable Stevenson was a minus 2500 underdog against Sean Sharaff. He was the biggest favorite in UFC history and he got knocked out. Do you guys want to guess how quick he got knocked out? Any guesses on the time? 34 seconds. 13 seconds. Oh, Josh, you were close. It was 12 seconds. Damn it. He got knocked out in 12 seconds. Basically, the first left hook. Like, I don't even really know what he tried to do. Like, he almost tried to half-pair it, but his hand just wasn't where it should have been. And he walked into the left hook and let me tell you, the Twitter sphere was in a absolute frenzy to see Gable Stevenson get knocked out. I'm not going to go into Gable Stevenson's past, but you can go look it up for yourself and see why everyone was so excited about him getting knocked out by Sean Sharaff. And this is the other thing about Sean Sharaff. He was a tomato cans tomato can.
He was 0 in 2 in the UFC with two losses. I texted my friends after he won and it was an incredible hay watch, probably the best hay watch I'll ever have in the UFC. But I texted him after my friends won and I was like an actual can of tomato soup grew arms and won that fight because this was, I mean, it was poised to be a showcase for Gable Stevenson. They put him on the pay-per-view. They put him against a guy who was 0 in 2 with two knockout losses in the UFC. So, yeah, and he went out there. It's a cruel sport. And he went out there and knocked him out cold and clean. Like, my goodness, it was a picture perfect left hook for the heavyweight division. Well, puncher chance, right? Yeah. And the other thing I think is Gable Stevenson, probably the Jitamele is not as good as we thought he was. Like, he was an incredible NCAA wrestler, Olympic gold medalist. I think he won in Tokyo. So like, he has an incredible wrestling background. But it's different when you could strike and it was awesome to see Sean Schraff won. Also on this card, two other things I want to talk about. Taitui Vasa, he lost to Robely. They, they, I can't pronounce his name. He's a Cuban guy, Cuban kick boxer.
But with that loss, Taitui Vasa, he now has the, it tied for the longest losing streak in UFC history with eight consecutive losses. He knocked out Derek Lewis a while back to move his record to 14 and three. He fought a title eliminator fight against Serial Gone. And since then, eight consecutive losses. And still on the roster, not sure if he will be after this one. And then the last one I wanted to talk about, maybe a touch of a deeper cut from my MMA fans out there. Giguchi Katsui. Under the, under the rug fall from grace. Like he beat up Edson Barbosa, got a main event against Calvin Cater. Got beat up real, real, real bad. Now when as I believe the betting favorite, one, one more fight after that. But since then, four fight losing streak. So since that Edson win, he's one in five. And the win was against Alex Caceris, which isn't exactly something to write home about. So really good card this weekend, really fun card. Glad I got to catch Gable Stevenson got knocked, getting knocked out. And then like I said, Josh Van, unreal performance. There you go.

Hi, I'm Max Rush in the host of the Guardian Football Weekly alongside me Barry Glenn Denning my co-host, hey Barry. Hello, now, although every American found us during the World Cup, for the two that didn't,
what can they expect? Found us and fell in love with us, Max. They can expect three episodes each week of occasionally insightful analysis, covering a Premier League, Champions League and beyond. Football Weekly is back. Watch on YouTube or listen wherever you get your podcasts. So that one guy that you called a tomato can, not exactly live, would you say that's not what he brings? Well, I mean, listen, he won the fight and he did it in really, really devastating fashion. So I give him that credit. But he was there to lose. He was there to lose, make no bones about it. Well, and like it's, there are build-up fights, right? Like getting ready fights and... And this was definitely it. Yeah, and every once in a long while, somebody will get one through and that's why they make you do it. The fight game is a weird one and there's a lot of money involved in developing a fighter. I mean, I don't know how much MMA.
MMA. Yeah. And so from the old time boxing where you had trainers and you had investors and is it the similar thing where a guy, when he goes out, the expectation is you're in a win and you, there's been a lot of work done on a boxer. Yeah, like other than, like generally speaking, no. But when you get a guy like Gables Stevenson who was NCAA champion, Olympic champion comes in with all this hype. He's training with John Jones. So like a sugar ray kind of thing. But like it is different because like, you know, his sport was wrestling, right? And he's making the transition to mixed martial arts. Like it's different from coming up and being an Olympic boxer and going into pro boxing. Would he be like one of those fighters that it was really difficult to get a feel for because you hadn't fought that style much? Yeah, like, I don't know. Just like generally speaking, like when you get a guy that credentialed in a different sport but still a combat sport like wrestling, like those are the ones we have the investment behind them and get pushed to your first point. And then to your second point, I would say yes, because like I said, you can have this
great base and that's very important and it's huge and it's what it's a reason a lot of rest fighters have success. But it is still a different sport, right? And this was kind of evidence of that. Right. No. Interesting stuff. Mm-hmm. There you go. All right. So how are we going to handle Connor in the hallway this week? Do we do the hang dog thing? Sorry, Connor. Or do we talk about other things? I saw a butterfly today. Look, Connor, there's hope. Look at it. I took a photograph of it for you. Would you like me to send that to you? Is that how we approach it or we do? We say, God, man, that sucks. But the draft is good. I don't think you'd treat him any different than usual. Okay. So ignore him. I mean, if that's what you do, yeah. Well, I don't ignore Connor. He's a good guy. How dare you treat your former producer like that? I've had a lot of former producers. They usually end up independently wealthy, like Connor. Yeah. His life has gone very well since he was my producer.
And he spent most of the time he was producing me, watching Japanese game shows where people were trying to roll logs and not get wet. He's talked about that, yeah. That's one of my favorite, like, behind the scenes from yesterday's story. Yeah. We didn't have a lot of guests. And it was mostly just low tide pontificating, which surprisingly was not the kind of show that got a great list of ships. So we changed it more to a back and forth feel. Was that when it was on weekends? There was some of it was on Saturdays. And then he and I did work on the low down in the early stages, I believe. Then I got Lieutenant Eric. And I had Freddie Papernick. And I had Allison Curry. And then eventually, Urem Chokken, then U-Cats, and everybody we've had since then. And the only criminal element is the man will be here tomorrow. Yeah. Do we have like, are we aware of his past at all?
With Donovan's? Yeah. No. Okay. I've been afraid to check it out. I'll be honest. You know, the less you know. But hey, you know, his dolphins are only averaging one last point per game than the chargers. So. I'm not going to brag about anything. That's a great game on a neutral field. The El Tosa. The Eagles are 2 and 0. And is it the, like, how much of they won both games by like, but is their total different goal, a point differential? Because they've won by six combined. Yeah. So like, no bragging from low tide here. And they didn't exactly play the greatest team in the world on the weekend, and they down near lost that one. Bengals are looking good though. Yeah, they are. And the bills are just out of sight. I mean, they look really, really good. You guys can admit it. They look like the best team in the NFL right now. Yep. I would agree with that. They're the bills with the Bengals because the Bengals are the best team in the NFL right now.
Well, there seems to be an argument. And my team is 2 and 0. But I'm not arguing they're the best in the NFL. All right, Jason Greger on the way. Thanks so much for tuning in. Sean Bell will be our guest tomorrow. Thanks so much for tuning in. We really love that you come along. And we appreciate you every day, all day, even if we don't tell you, because we're old, and we forget things. Where's my car? Thanks for tuning in. Enjoy your day.
