So the big topic this week and even last week was the State Board of Education meeting on the actually this was a meeting that had been put off I believe and it had to do with high school social studies and history courses to go into effect two school years from now I believe. Tell us I know you've had people up there this week. Tell us what that's been looking like and what the discussions are about. Well, Mary Elizabeth Castle and Jonathan Cuddy from our team were there all day on Monday and a little bit yesterday and they took preliminary votes yesterday on a high school social studies primarily and we'll see final votes later this week. And a lot of it is about how we teach

2:10history at the high school level government and there's been a lot of discussion as you might have seen in social media and in the public about how you have people from radical Islam factions that are trying to rewrite our Texas history and American history or they're trying to have an influence really in a negative way on how we teach about some of these issues. Now it's always important to be sensitive when we talk about issues related to other religions particularly some that have had a history of hostility towards the United States which we've often seen when it comes to radical Muslim factions and Islamic terrorists and a lot of things we've had to deal with particularly you know just being a few days away from the remembrance of 9-11 and so there's a way to be considerate about some of these issues but also to be honest and when you have people up there testifying really challenging the fact that you know the

3:10United States and the governor of Texas the state of Texas has designated groups like care as foreign terrorist organizations the council on American Islamic relations and you have them admitting that they're openly hosting meetings for those organizations in Texas that's going to create some problems. Absolutely and I just think it's fascinating that this curriculum is being called anti-Muslim curriculum. I don't I've seen quite a bit of the pieces of this and heard the discussions and it's not anti-Muslim in any form or fashion it seems to me it seems to me it just speaks truth and I didn't that what we're supposed to be teaching Jonathan. Well that's absolutely right and you find this a lot of times particularly when it relates to stuff going on the left or liberalism people that want to really they want us to be ashamed to be Americans or to be Texans and they really want to rewrite history and they want to move away from

4:16the roots of America which are Judeo Christian you know whether people like that religion or those beliefs are not that is part of history of America and that's a big part of who we still are culturally and in many ways government in the local state and federal level and so people want to rewrite that they want to sway things I mean you have people that were testifying in state board of education trying to convince people that Muslims were the victims of 9-11 I mean look it's just but they will say it with a straight face in a very stern and very aggressive way you know it almost like a threatening way you know and over time people start to believe that stuff sadly. So let's move on to something a little more exciting and that is y'all's events coming up in September and I'm getting more and more excited about that. Now last every it seems like every Wednesday you tell us we have another special guest but I can't tell you today and so do we we had one of those last week do you have a new addition since last week all right let's hear

5:21we do actually but I was told that what's the right way to say this I can't reveal the name just yet okay and I think that I'm going to get clear and see their today or tomorrow and you know I'll just put it this way I mean we want to make sure that the president's administration is happy about how we navigate these things and that our friends from those that administration when they come to speak to our event you know feel like all the eyes have been dotted and the tees have been crossed before they make an announcement which I totally respect that process so I got a phone call yesterday from a very high level Trump administration president administration official who will be speaking at our event but so I got the private confirmation but the public side of it I think I'm going to need to wait another day or two so but that's that means people that want to come to our event don't wait because the event is going to sell out and as we start announcing some of these last

6:25couple of speakers that are going to be quite dynamic and well known and interesting ticket sales are going to pick up and we're going to run out of seats particularly for the dinner for Brandon Gill so this is an event that we have in Cedar Park on September 25th and 26th this is Texas faith fest and what we've been doing over the past oh no Jonathan I think I've lost you what they've been doing over the past couple of years has been events on Friday all day as well as Saturday and then they go to the dinner on Friday night and this year they've decided to put it all in a jam pack to Saturday and dinner on Friday night with Brandon Gill is going to be a different is a separate event but is but the dinner always sells out I've never managed to make one of them I just don't want to go to Austin on a Friday night Jonathan did we get you back I guess not all right so there you go we will what we're going to do is I'm going to complete oh I'll accept Jonathan

I don't know if y'all remember this but when I was teaching school back in the day teaching math and one of the big conversations I taught math and science and one of the big at junior high we'll get all this out in one complete sentence. I taught math and science middle school and I've got the bald spot on the top of my head to prove it. Middle school kids are woo let me tell you and from what I hear and talking with middle school parents and teachers these days it's not much different you know human nature doesn't change human nature does not change

10:42and so it is these things that we experienced that you know generation experienced another generation is going to experience something kind of a different version of that but when I was in teaching middle school math we had a big deal about are you ready what you could bring into class calculators oh my goodness bringing a calculator into your math class as well as your science and even physics classes I remember there was a point in time when you were able to calculators became smart enough that you could actually save different different formulas onto them so if you were going to be you could put physics or chemistry formulas in there and going in to take a test at the university level in this physics class or a chemistry

11:42class and oh yeah let me look at your calculator they would allow you to use certain calculators but not programmable ones and but boy that was a big deal don't take your calculator boy have we gotten past that now it is cell phones and during the last oh man I got I feel a sneeze coming on so when it happens I'll try to hit my button but the the issue of course we're all dealing with has been cell phones cell phones in the classrooms our kids getting addicted to cell phones the companies that are creating the social media platforms are addicting our kids we've heard rules about this recently rulings on this and I don't know the different companies that are having to pay out billions of dollars because they finally admitted that they're that their apps and their their things are addictive of course they are that's how capitalism works we sell you a product

12:42that we want you to come back to it you know I get my all changed at the same place every 5,000 miles we got three vehicles and we just pray that two of them are running at any one time and so the but they want me to come back in fact if they had a choice they would figure out some way to get me addicted to coming back that's capitalism they want to give me good service they want to have good price they want to treat me well when I'm going in there so that I will have this affinity to go back and do business with them again so when a media platform they want you to keep coming back then they're going to do things that keep you coming back that should not be a surprise to anyone if you're shocked that you know Facebook is addicted to verse scrolling is addictive to certain types of personalities well don't be shocked don't be shocked that is actually part of the

13:47way capitalism works now being honest about it in an honest business should you tell people ahead of time that oh yeah we've got this new app and we've made it so that your child is just going to love being on that app now you can call it addiction you can call it whatever you want to so in Texas in the last legislative session we passed a bill that banned cell phones in Texas classrooms and this it passed it did not pass unanimously in the house it was a majority a bipartisan majority the Senate it did pass unanimously in the Senate now one of the issues I have with these devices first of all or with these types of laws first of all you shouldn't I don't think they need I don't think our students need cell phones in the classroom all right so I'm just going to put it that way make sure up front that you understand where I'm coming from but I still

14:52need to kind of deconstruct the process so parents are responsible for your children I am not the parent of a teenager during the cell phone era but I do know lots of parents that are and just through the just through news and other stories I see the frustration of parents and can you imagine you're no your child being your 14 year old daughter being the only 14 year old that doesn't have a cell phone right the pressure at home would be boundless it would be endless and so the parents are very happy when the school says oh we can't have cell phones in the classroom all right cleared that one out and so you can see the relief on parents faces when

15:58oh they can tell their kid oh honey I wish you could take your cell phone to school but you know the school they they they they don't want you to have one and so it's not my fault it's not my fault honey I love you I wish you could have your phone all the time but it's not our fault but it's a school this that's mean guys at school well if you can figure this out some school districts and many school districts for many years they did not want to take up this battle either they did not want that fight because they knew what would happen if the school started banning cell phones oh my goodness man there'd be parents coming to school board meetings there'd be all kinds of issues because you know the school did it so the schools got they they passed on their responsibility because they didn't want to have to deal with that and so now they can happily say you know man I wish we could let y'all have cell phones I know how important it is for y'all but man that mean nasty state of Texas is just passed the law that says we can't allow you

17:05to have cell phones in here so you see where I'm going everybody gets to push the bad guy off to the state the first bad guy it should be the parents and and don't don't don't talk to me about you know oh the pressure parents are under if you wait to discipline or take control of your child until they reach thirteen or four if you wait till then and you don't have that discipline and that respect in your family then you're not going to get it when she turns fourteen all right there's not going to be any magic there so this this demise of parenting is showing up all over our communities everywhere and so every time we pass a law that you know let's we're going to ban minors from media from social media platforms you know like some countries where you got to be

18:06thirteen or sixteen to get on to social media I have a real problem with laws like that because those are not the responsibility of the state they're not they're the responsibility of parents they're the responsibility of your church there are responsibilities and yet we keep passing these laws that takes the moves the bad guy from being a parent to being a school to now being the state and so everybody gets to wash their hands and say oh I had nothing to do that gee I'm really sorry you can't have your cell phone all day every day in the classroom and but nobody else does so you know so I think these types of laws really bother me and we see them over and over and over again and we pass all new kinds of laws all the time that say it's for the children it's for the children and basically just taking more and more liberties away by telling

19:10us it's for the children goes back to security versus liberty and the line that Franklin is credited for saying which is if you desire security over liberty then you deserve neither folks I have never been able to find that that quote in any of Franklin's materials it's great he might have said it could have said it maybe he did say it but I haven't found it yet if you know where that quote is the original document please send it to me I'd love to have it so let's get back to the school the phone the cell phone ban in the classroom and teachers are saying oh my goodness they're saying it's shocking it's shocking how well the students are doing I it's are we are any of us surprised that that getting the cell phones out of the classroom increased

20:14their the kids ability to focus it increased their ability to interact no of course we're not um and uh so the cell phone ban is working here in Texas teachers are happy with it I have not heard any knockdown dragout fights I haven't heard of anything negative if you heard anything negative if you've seen anything negative then feel free to let us know I know there were some parents and I knew several personally who were so concerned about what teachers may or may not do in the classroom that they wanted to make sure that their students that their child had a a the ability to record either audio and or audio video to to keep their teachers in line so I know there's some parents that are not quite happy with that but there are other ways to record what's going on in

21:19the classroom without a cell phone and in Texas yeah a teacher doesn't even need to know it Texas where one state a one only one person has to know that a conversation is being recorded you don't have to let all the parties know so there's lots of uh recording devices that if that's your if you're that paranoid or if you're that concerned or maybe there is a history of something that you want to make sure you get a record of there are a lot of ways to record what's going on in the classroom outside of your cell phone and uh many of them would be very difficult to even spot so if you're one of those parents find that uh recording device and uh have your child have your child wear it every day put it in their pocket or bag or wherever and uh go ahead and record and that way that's not the same as a cell phone and yet you can still track what that nasty mean teacher is doing to

22:23your child and I'm not saying that lightly we do have teachers that uh mistreat certain children for many different reasons and uh so I just remember one of them recently where a parent was an activist uh in their community and their their children were punished at school and uh not not outright punished but uh their their children had consequences for the behavior of their parents and so um it was uh we've we've seen that before we've seen that before and uh it exists because teachers are just like you and me where humans human nature does not change human nature does not change uh no matter the circumstances around it all right folks we're going to take a short break and uh we will be right back

23:35all right we are back it's Wednesday let's wrap up the fourth quarter of this uh program today before uh Lorraine Lamon comes in here um I got a couple of quick things I want to hit quickly on not spend a much of time on well I yeah I'm gonna I'm gonna try um there is uh one of the hearings last week in the uh interim hearings at the the Texas uh capital in Austin um there was a lots of here lots of hours about the effectiveness of the Texas Public Information Act it's called the TPIA uh we we refer to them if you put a request in for your county or the state or your school board it's called a PIR a public information request people use the term FOIA

24:35FOIA is not interchangeable and I know tomato tomato what have you but a FOIA is for federal things freedom of information act that's a FOIA request that is for federal information when you're when you're looking to get information from a Texas uh division of Texas government and by the way your city is a division of Texas government so as your county uh we're all subdivisions of the state of Texas um those are not called FOIAs those are called public information requests PIRs um the PIRs I I have seen them um abused on both ends I've seen them abused on both ends uh first of all the interesting thing is that when you put in a uh PIA uh public information request in Texas they have 10 days to respond to it now they very often they will treat that 10 days as the

25:38goal and not the limit in fact I even had an official in Gillespie County when we put a PIR in in Gillespie County they said well we have 10 days uh and so I'll get you the answer you know 10 days from now well I knew this was something that they could go get in the next 30 minutes and actually I could have waited around and they could have handed it to me but they're going to use the 10 days and in this case it had to do with elections and so yeah putting it off 10 days before election season and doing that on purpose um uh to give you less time um in fact they have 10 days to tell you they need more time okay and so they'll wait until the 10th day to say oh we need a little more time you got a grants a little more time um it gets abused on both ends on the other end of that are some of the morons uh public members of the public I'm sure you know at least

26:43one of them all of us do and uh who send literally hundreds if not thousands of PIRs into a city or county um in fact there was even I think I read an article about the uh an AI agent who was able to submit just automatically start sending these public information requests and it's obviously a move to disrupt the uh disrupt the business of the office uh should I you know how do we solve this well you know it's kind of like we hear this like a good neighbors in Texas well anybody that puts sends in hundreds and hundreds of uh requests into a single city uh is you're you're creating issues you're doing that on purpose whether to draw attention to yourself or draw attention to the issue

27:46and so it is abused on both ends which means that someone is going to come in and say well we have a solution to this um and which means well we've got to do something and so they will pass a law of some kind that'll make it more difficult for a public information request um and so the other way that the uh the government uh on this side uh can uh do uh can slow down the PIRs is decide how they're going to charge you um so it was uh there was a Texas Public Policy Foundation I believe it was one of those maybe it was the uh maybe it was the uh freedom of information foundation of Texas but they what they did was they sent in a request the same type of request the multiple school boards

28:49to multiple schools many of them came back and said oh this won't cost anything we'll get it to you and then others sent them back with um a higher price in fact one of them and i'm not finding the number in it but it was multiple thousands of dollars that they were going to charge um so that was they can charge you all right uh oh here it is they set the uh cantero that would be Texas Public Policy Foundation he had requested the same set of information from multiple public school districts all right so he's sending the identical thing it says while many complied for free some required charges ranging from hundreds of dollars to just over one thousand dollars but in north side independent school district i believe that's in San Antonio isn't not for the same thing that other

29:51schools were charging for were for free um they charged thirty three thousand dollars for that same identical set of information so yeah if you want to slow down the public information requests i've heard complaints here locally in the hill country how the uh county clerks um are just inundated with these requests well it's part of your job it is part of your job it's nothing new it's always been there and it is part of your job and you need to figure out a way to deal with that or find yourself another job don't don't complain about the number of the the public information requests um do your job that's part of your job if you don't like it find another job um and at the same time the maroons who send in thousands of requests in order just

30:53to swamp the whole thing you guys are idiots too all right i'm telling you you're no good leave us just just go away leave us alone you know it reminds me of a number of years ago when uh some when we were uh putting uh election seasons and people were putting up signs for elections and someone came up it was about a day or two before the election and they must have had a whole bunch of extra signs in the back of their truck that they had not distributed probably they'd told somebody we're gonna distribute these and get them out into homes and then uh two days before the election they realized they didn't have uh they hadn't done their job so they decided to go up to the Gillespie County Courthouse and completely cover the uh make a long long line of all of these signs in fact it was almost it almost looked like a high school prank right uh i don't know

31:58gathering uh for sale signs uh from yards uh some of the uh less harmless things i did as a as a team hager and taking them all over to one house and you know putting 30 for sale signs up in a house or uh cones uh uh taking cones and piling cones up in uh in uh one of your friends is front yard traffic cones uh so this looked like a this looked like a prank a silly high school prank someone just said oh we're just gonna flood the whole courthouse all it'll be so cool no you know what happened because of that because of that the judge then came out and said all right we're done with these um signs on uh public on public land and uh they uh he passed uh new regulations and new laws so all it took was one maroon amongst us to ruin it for the rest of us uh we need to

32:59take personal responsibilities for these things whether it's putting up uh campaign signs or freedom of information requests um uh we've got to pay some respect uh uh but tearing down the system is not going to help anybody any more um so we uh have uh voting at churches all across the state of Texas i know bridge church has allowed uh elections in uh the lobby of bridge church um mosques are also being used as polling locations and apparently there's a lot of people who are upset that a mosque is acting as a polling location i'm uh you know it's a shame i have to say this every time um i don't think muslim is islam is a true religion i think it's well obviously it's not the true

33:59religion i uh islam is a cult i think those who practice islam are not even compatible to live in this country if you practice islam you're you're you're living in the wrong country it doesn't even match with our values as a country so having said all of that if i had to go vote in a mosque i i wouldn't be but heard about it all right i just wouldn't it's a building and you go in there and you vote and then you leave so i guess there's some people who are upset um that the that you can vote in those buildings you know how to solve that problem folks it's so easy it is so easy you know how you solve that problem you let people vote in your church that's so that's how easy it is you know we used to vote in schools we used to i remember seeing that a lot voting at the middle school or the high school and uh i guess i remember one where was it somewhere

35:04Arizona somewhere and a polling location was inside a gun shop i loved that one and yet people were there were oh some uh democrats that were afraid to go vote in the gun shop because you know maybe all those guns would just get up and shoot at them while they were voting um i i'm i'm not concerned about voting in a mosque you shouldn't be if you want to solve that problem if that bothers you then why are no why are there no churches in your neighborhood christian judeau christian tradition churches um well i'll tell you why because churches most of the churches out there they believe this lie about the separation of church and state and uh so many of our churches buy into that that they want even host an election so the same thing i've said about the reason islam has made such

36:05gains in the state of texas is because we left a vacuum we left we left a void christian stepped away churches stepped away from our responsibilities and we left a big old void and islam looked at that void and satan looked at that void and said you know what we're gonna fill that void up and they have done so and uh so until we decide to take that back that's that's where we're at and so if uh if if there's a mosque that is allowing voting if there's a mosque going on that is uh bringing who's who's saying yeah we welcome the election process in our building it's probably because there were no churches that would do that so the mosques stepped right in if you're voting district is in a mosque um don't be afraid to
