In 1965, during the Gemini 4 mission, astronaut Ed White became the first American to spacewalk. While it was a historic moment, it was also nerve-wracking as it was a brand-new and untested endeavor. In 2013, Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano faced a terrifying situation as his helmet started filling with water during a spacewalk, prompting an immediate return to the ISS. The 1984 spacewalk by Bruce McCandless, using the Manned Maneuvering Unit, showcased breathtaking views but also highlighted the isolation and potential dangers of untethered spacewalks.
