Welcome to The Terrible Take, a daily segment telling Steelers Nation what's on our mind. I'm Jake Brockoff. The Steelers are finally back on the field to kick off the regular season this Sunday at Acresure Stadium. A long off season filled with several coaching changes, a few new faces on both sides of the ball, and even a handful of contract extensions will finally culminate into the 2026 version of the Steelers who take the field on Sunday. Things should look good, at least against the Falcons. The Steelers have a relatively easy start to the season before the schedule gets a lot suffer at the end of the year. On paper, the Falcons aren't the toughest test, but they do still have some playmakers who will threaten the Steelers. Yet, if the Steelers can follow these three keys, they should come out with a weak one win. First and foremost, they've got to stop the run. Whether it's Tuha or Cooper Rush at quarterback, either one of them benefits greatly if the Falcons are able to run the ball consistently. John Robinson is one of the best running backs in the league and the Steelers have to contain him early.
If they can, it's going to force the Falcons to beat them through the air, a strategy which could prove successful against Atlanta's quarterback. Secondly, the Steelers have to get after the passer. On the heels of Nick Herbig's large extension, Pittsburgh will likely have their top three edge rushers on the field simultaneously in this game. When the Steelers played Tuha last year, consistent pressure forced him into a couple of mistakes. Whether it's him or Rush throwing the ball, if the Steelers can bring the heat consistently, things give much more difficult. Finally, Pittsburgh has to establish a ground game of its own. Falcons are very depleted up front on defense, missing their top two edge rushers. If they are strong in the secondary, at both cornerback and safety, if the Steelers have to beat them through the air, it might be tough. So if Rico Dattle and Jay-Wan Warren can find a rhythm within the first couple of drives, it would be a massive help to the offense. If the Steelers can do all three of these things, they may be looking at a weak one win, which is important given the fact that they'll play a Patriarch's team
which went to the Super Bowl last year in week two. And Owen won't start mixing things much trickier going into that game. But if the Steelers do these three things, a win should be within their grasp. Be sure to follow us at stewersdepot.com and check out episodes of the Terrible Take every day at 5pm Eastern Time.
