My dearest Martha, I'm tired of playing old text-to-speech that reads every chat message in the same monotonous voice. I wish it had more variety. Well, now it does. Give your chat unique voices with Bumblebee, a voice fit for a wizard, or a little sweetheart. I have my suspicions. You're streaming companion for Twitch and YouTube. Get started free at Bumblebee.buzz. Best chat text-to-speech in this life. Did you know that Bruce Wayne was originally named Rex Tyler?

It's true. Anyway, support TMS today at patreon.com slash TMS, or you'll make the Joker happy. And that would be bad for everyone. Coming up on the morning stream, my favorite dog breed is Cat. We've got worms. I don't like that triangle lip thing. Hanging at the ping-biggle with Dunno-Way. Just rub Vix on it. Grapes. Nice. I like baseball records. Flick the turd. Go in full-in. You can go your subway. Talk like you got some sense day. Flying fast as a concord. Right into failure. Waste high, herby. To plump in the middle. Mostly husky with Tom and more on this episode of The Morning Stream. Had you like some fresh beef? We haven't had a piece of beef in ages. I like dong. The Morning Stream. Raw meat. Do you like raw meat?

A bit of a theme today. Didn't actually mean to do that with the Fletcher. That was an accident. Hey, everybody. It's the Morning Stream. It's TMS. It's Wednesday, September 16, 2026. I'm Scott Johnson with Brian. I bet. Hello, Brian. Hello. Hey, man. Hey, man. Look, it's a hump day. We got a hump it. Let's hump it. Everybody get on. Give it a hump. You know, a hump to hump. Yeah. We did our trivia again last night. Oh, I was going to check the the sub stack thing this morning. I did not, but I will do it after the show. But yeah, we went to our trivia. So week four, I think of the six week league. And we won again, beat the Jackrabbit Slims team. Take that. I love that name. Great name. Yeah, they're fun. They never come over and say hi. Or they never, you know, I clap for them when they, when they, when it reveals their score at the end, they don't clap for us. They're like, you think that's a, that's a thing they do as a, as a technique to keep the game face or something?

I don't know. I think they're just poor losers. Yeah. There's only two of them too. It's just a couple. So I mean, they're really good. They, you know, they give us a run for our money. It's like, um, staying within, you know, a few thousand points, 10,000 points of us. So that's great. And only two weeks left. That's crazy. Okay. Only two weeks left. And we're, and they have not updated our scores yet as far as, uh, let's see, if, let's see if that's changed this morning. Because now there are two days of. This is a guy whose job is definitely got AI coming after it. Whoever's supposed to be the next day. No kidding. He's to get on it. Yeah. Still has not updated our, oh, funny. They've got our score from last night. They don't have our score from last week. Oh, they skipped a week. Oops. They skipped a week. That's all right. We've got, we've got a document. We've got on record. So. All right. But your head is far ahead.

Well, we're in, we're on their chart. We're in fourth place. But if they'd accounted those, those things, they would be higher. We'd be in third. Yeah. We'd be in third if they were up to date. We might even be in second. I don't know if the nomads. It's funny because now they don't have the, it's really weird like the, the, the scores they have in here. It's great that they have last night. That was quick. That's the quickest. It's ever been that they put it into the, the form. But, um, I just forgot or something. I guess. Good news is I have it documented. So I know what our score was. So I can, if I need to, I can email in the screenshot because I took a screenshot. Do you want to, do you want to a little test? See how you did with the final question from last night? Yeah, I love these. Let's do it. Okay. Let's open up. Oh good. I can open up in photo. If my answer is all going to be this though. Right. Everything. All right. The category is the words of Victor Hugo. All right. Okay.

It's your category. That's a little bit of a, a hint. All right. The answer is this object, quote, is the ultimate expression of law and its name is vengeance. It is not neutral nor does it allow us to remain neutral. Oh, 30 seconds. I don't know. Um, what is something he told in the less miserable. No, I don't know. Yeah, there was, there was one of these in LA, Ms. Rob. It's a guillotine is what we're doing. Oh, shit. Yeah. I figured out we doubled our 162,000 point score and ended up with 324,000. Did they not get that last one? They did. Oh, they did. They were, um, they ended up, God, I think what did they end up at? Oh, I guess it's still actually up on the page. Um, it's just funny that last night's score.

They've got, uh, they ended up with 265,600. So we beat them by like 60, 60,000. Man, they really, they went full yen with this point system. It's just like so many numbers. Well, here's the thing. Like it, it scored the same as this is if, if you were just a perfect player at jeopardy, like the, the Alex Trebek jeopardy or the Ken Jennings jeopardy and you answered every question and you daily doubled and went all in. This is roughly how many points, how many dollars you would have at the end of one game. But you'd have to, you'd have to crickly answer every question and you'd have to get all of the, because this is how we play. We get all the top rows cleared out first before we go to the bottom two rows because we want as much as many points as we can have before we hit the daily doubles so that we can double that, you know, the bigger numbers, right? Yeah. So, well, you guys have strats for all of it. We do. Yeah. It's, it's, and then we figure out which, which category were least, least strong at.

And then we take care of that one first that we've got, you know, other questions to make up for it if we, if we screwed up. Nice. Well, if there was any reason why you guys were hungry and you needed something that was less than 15 minutes away. Uh-huh. Nice segue. That's as good as I got today. Yeah. Scooby Geek wrote in about the sandwich thing again. He starts it with this, Hey, soapapia and Benet. This will be my, this will be my final submission regarding the sandwich facts. He says, this is it. All right. No more of these. Unfortunately, I actually really like these. So I hope you, I hope it's not as last. He says, yes, I misspoke when I said all US households are within 15 minutes of a subway. I was quoting what I was, what was said to me by subway during that interview. You can't trust them. No, but, but, but I've heard something to that effect. So I feel like that, you know, that, that subway is either spread that, um, miss it, that propaganda far and wide or somebody else has repeated it.

I mean, these people put the people put freaking, you know, yoga mat in their brain. Yeah. Yeah. If you worked for them, you'd be yoga geek. That's how it worked. I said, as a keen listener or as a keen listener, call me out with specific examples proving that statistic was invalid, I felt the need to provide the accurate statistic. Therefore I create a 15 minute drive time around each of the 19,736 open US subway locations I have in my database within those drive times. There are 100,000 16, 200, 100,000. 16, no, 116,000. Yeah. 116,200, a five, no, that'd be 116 million, 285,000, 46 unique households. The quarter for 2025 estimate households in the US is 130 million and 525,690. Therefore, the correct accurate estimate is 88.4% of all households are within 15 minutes of subway. That is all scuba geek. Yeah. You know, that math's still pretty convincing.

That's still pretty sad too. 88.4% of all US households are within 15 minutes of a subway. Yeah. I mean, subway, honestly, at this point, they'll do anything to try to make people forget the Jared stuff. So they'll make up anything. Everything's within five minutes of the house. What about Jared? Don't let's not talk about Jared. Let's talk about that phone we put in our food. We're right. Exactly. I can see an executive saying, all right, if we put a subway here, that'll actually give us 10,000 more households. Let's see if we put a subway here, just looking at these numbers. They could, how they work. They could dink with it. They could dink with it. And we know they're capable of such things. So to give you a couple of that's not your last or a thing about sandwiches, if we have some sandwich thing come up, we're looking to you to, you know, pipe in. So yeah, yeah, there we go. Yeah, don't, don't die on that vine, buddy. Or he will. Yes, he will. He will. Or this guy will. He's cool.

He's cool with the yoga mats. He's fine with it. Yeah. Isn't that a problem? Yoga mat actually contains 53% of the US daily requirement for vitamin D. Do you want us to save you this road, kill? That's yes, and his speak. Yes. I think the question is, are you going to finish that road? Yeah, and his answer is, even a little at the end, like he was done somehow. Snack in his lips though. All right, guys, let's get a game going. We got to compete. Yeah, yeah, you do. We got to compete. So here's how that's going to work right here. Welcome to the program one, Brian Dunway, who will do the competing. Hello, Brian. Oh, hi, it's gotten Brian. Hey, man. Hello. Hey, what's going on with you? What are you doing? You work? I've been, I've been, spend the last couple of days, boning up on my, how to annoy your

friends by talking like a pirate day on Friday. No, yeah, is that Friday? It is Friday. Are we all excited about that? I'm calling out sick from the internet. What's funny is, I feel like in recent years, people are less prone to do it. Like I just don't see it everywhere because we're not, we're less of a community worldwide and now we're just everyone hates each other and yells at each other. So it's not, it's not a lot of that anymore. We can't rally around the talk like a pirate day like we used to. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I mean in like stranger circles. Like if you, but go back to 2008, Twitter was full of that on talk like a pirate day and it may have annoyed me, but at least everybody was kind of in on it. And it was kind of nice and everything. And that didn't happen anymore. It should, well, I wish you pushed like, talk like other things day, like talk like a wookie day. No, that'd be fun. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, I don't do like, yeah, don't do it. Because they'll come up with like wookie Wednesday or some shitty name and talk like Yoda day? It'll be everything from Star Wars.

Yeah. How about don't talk like an idiot on Twitter day? Is there like that? Like the way we do that? Oh my gosh. I don't think it'll work. Talk like you got some sense day, I like that. Right. Like that. Who? Interesting. Can it be really hard to enforce, though? They're from a, well, we're going to play a game and see if we can enforce those rules. Brian Ibit here will explain to Brian Dunway and myself how it works. How's it going? Let me explain and pay attention because this is very important. It's time to play the tadpoo leaf. I've surveyed the tadpoo on so nerdy topics. Scott and Brian have to predict the answers that they gave us. It is their job to see how many of those answers they can guess. One, two, three, maybe 10. I don't know. At the end of the game, we're going to add up all the points and the winner will actually be winning prizes for their listener contestant and contestants will be pulled from our supporters on Patreon at patreon.com slash TMS. I said that like it's happening in the future. No, it's already happened. Scott is playing for Bob Finnegan. Yeah, Bob means you better be no pick. No, no, no, no, no. Postal worker extraordinaire if I'm remembering correctly or more.

I think that's one of them anyway, right? Yep. Yep. And Brian is playing for Andrew Lee. Andrew Lee. Andrew Lee. Actually, my two for an adverb. It could be an adverb. He's really. Andrew Lee. Andrew Lee. I like that. All right. Oh, man. I've got you. I got you. Andrew Lee. I made this sound. Really? I swear to God, I will laugh every time you play that thing. I cannot not laugh at that. It's amazing. He gave us a real gift. So we're grateful to Mr. RFK Jr. today for nothing else but that. That's it. Keeps on giving. All right. Put your hands on your buzzers and give me your best answer to this. We asked 455 tadpullers. What is your favorite dog breed? Dog? Scott. German Shepherd. Shoe me German Shepherd. Wow. Sixth answer on the board. Five answers will beat it. Brian. Well, then 80s answer. You know, it really is.

And this is tough. All right. I guess I need to get into it. All right. I get first. First answer is supposed to be fast. All right. A chihuahua. Everybody loves a chihuahua. Do they? Okay. All right. Are you serious? I'm not even going to do the chihuahua. Shoe me chihuahua. I thought I'd least be on the board. I thought it'd be like number four. People are annoying. Those are annoying most people. Those bad. It did make it to number 21. And we, you know, we, we, we love our listeners and have chihuahas. But out of all of the breeds of dogs, the chihuahua couldn't even make it into the top 10. Not even into the top 20. No. Holy smokes. All right. You're just, you're still, you're thinking. Like pocket dogs is the problem. Yeah. What you like about them, you're still looking. I think you're still Taco Bell 90s guy in your head. Yeah. That's actually probably it, right? Yeah. It was, it was just the first dog that came to mind when you asked dog grief. Actually, that's not true. Pitbull came to mind first and said, nah.

Yeah. I mean, I've loved every pit I ever saw. But yeah, yeah. Mr. Worldwide. All right. Anyway, I'm going to go. You've got control and six points to start with. Yeah. I'm going to go with, um, uh, uh, uh, get the golden retriever out of there. Let's get that out of the way. Yeah. Usually named, uh, Tanner. I think we've got two golden retrievers in the neighborhood named Tanner. Uh, and they both have bandanas that they wear around here. It's really cute. Yeah. They're both, and they both have been charged with their guild, uh, raid runs and everything. But that's right. They're not as cool as our Tanner. I'll tell you that. No. He's the most golden of all retrievers. That's right. But I do need to get him a bandana. Anyway, show me golden retriever. Oh, not number one. We are number one answer. Yeah. Okay, that's interesting. Yeah. Yeah. I got it. I got it. Well, good. I'm going to have to turn. Um, should I be a bit? Can I, I got a question for the judges? Sure. Sure.

Something in the vein of a common crossover, like it, crossbreeds are okay. Crossbreeds are okay. Okay. Yeah. All right. Cause I know one of the most popular dogs right now may not be on this list. Cause I just, I don't think the tadpole is made up of a lot of people who think they're overbred. And I would agree that they are. And it's, it's kind of got ethical issues. But I'm going to say, we'll try it. We'll say the golden doodle, the, the total, the golden stuff. Yeah. My sister-in-law breeds them and makes a lot of money on them. Oh. All right. Show me golden doodle. Muggles, muggles, muggledog. Let's see. Golden doodle was on here. Where is it? Um, it's low. Surprise. There it is. Number 36 golden doodle. Get low, get low, get low. I think they're huge in sales, but maybe not so much in the minds of people. I don't know. Yeah. All right. All right. My dog is listening.

I better say that breed after I embarrassed myself the Chihuahua. So I'm going to say Husky, even though German shepherds are, he's a German husky mix. So I'm just going to say, yeah, I'm going to say Husky. All right. It's a husky. We had a German shepherd husky mix ourselves named Meg when I was growing up. Oh, Niko. Very loyal. Oh, really? Very loyal. Husky husky mixes are the sweetest, most loyal food in dogs, man. Yeah. Let me tell you something also. Let me tell you something. Dumb as dirt, but also smart is in thing. The German shepherd have very smart. Yeah, yeah. I'm like, I'll be doing the same thing over and over again. I'll be walking down like, you know, like the hall or something. And I'm like, you see me walk by here like 20 times and you at like, I'm doing this for the first time. But then if you step out of the room, it's like, you leave and you come back in. He's like, so on a sweater or something. He's like, he's the sneakyest little thing. It's funny. Does he bark like? Yeah, he's a talker.

He's a talker. He's a talker. All right. Show me Husky. Yeah. Answer number five, my name. My favorite clothing size in high school. My favorite shitty bike. My parents bought me for Christmas. That's a huffy. Oh, huffy, you're right. That's a huffy. My favorite brand of tools. There you go. Yeah. I always will. All right. How about we go with the dogs that I've had growing up? Sure. Um, um, no. People don't like. No, that one's not. People don't like. I want some points. And I'm going to say poodle. All right. Did you put, did you just time me? Did you just time me? He did. He started it. But you got it in the timer. You got it. Yeah. He said poodle just as I started the time. All right. No, a lot of people though, the people who did pick poodle number 27 in the list, one of them said only the true poodle.

No, big, big, not the miniature poodles. The mini poodle was exactly the full ones are the sweetest ones. The full one. And they don't shed like regular dogs. Right. Good. Yeah, they're not bad. That one. They look weird in your shave. I'm knowing I got to take care of their junk all the time. Yeah. And you got to make their heads a perfect sphere apparently. Yeah. Not my favorite thing in the world. Yeah. All right. I'm going to say terrible. Let's get. No, no, no. Well, you have five points to Scott's a. That's all close game. Yeah, we're on the board here. I'm going to say the chat would have been pretty fond of, you know, like rescued muts. So I'm going to say just a, you know, a mud. A mud? Yeah. Sure. Sure. But that's number one. Half of my, one of my favorite comic strips going growing up was mud. But Jeff, yeah, but Jeff so me mud. Yeah, Jeff number three. Thought that would be one. Hmm. No, no, no. Still one more dog breed that people like more than any of the others. Uh, lab lab or doors and retrievers aren't the same like labra scootle.

No, I wasn't going to say that. But like, because I had a dog that was a cock a shits a poo, but we're not doing that today. Today, that golden retriever and golden or labrador retriever. That's not the same animal. Is it? No, it's a different animal. Well, I'm doing that. Let's do the labrador of some sort. This is going to laugh when you said labrador and retrievers aren't the same animal. Well, tell that to labrador retrievers. Uh, yeah. Okay, show me labrador retrievers number one answer. Yeah, because you have your chocolate labs, your black labs, your yellow labs. Yeah, the golden, the golden and they're a golden labs and they're a golden retriever. They're not the same dog. Not the same thing. Yeah, longer hair on the golden retriever than on a golden lab. All right. He peed a lot, but we really liked my neighbor's beagle. So let's try out. Beagle. Oh, beagles are great. Until his little yellow bird friend, uh, flew away and then he got really sad. Snoopy's, Snoopy's supposed to be a beagle, but come on. Yeah. Was there a more horrible sound and like, like, uh, tore your soul out as a kid than Snoopy

crying in those old, uh, uh, peanuts cartoons? There's only one sound I can think that's worse. Right. Right. Okay, you're right. Yeah. You're right. Yeah. All right. Show me, uh, ping beagle. No. That big point. Good points. Hey, uh, Chrissy Janet, I'm going to go head down to the ping beagle with, uh, oh, that is hilarious. Larer. That was a workplace called right. That's it. Yeah. Yep. Yep. We got a place that never called the brutal poodle and I can't think of the brutal poodle. I can't think of the brutal poodle without thinking about the regal beagle. Yeah. Well, kind of, uh, they got a cool logo like a pissed off looking. It is, it's, uh, they have, it's a heavy metal, like a hair metal, 80s hair metal bar. And the food is awesome. They got these incredible burgers and waffle fries. And the decor is like, you know, if Gene Simmons was a poodle, uh, the makeup and then this alert. I love that question. Yeah. Are they free hair nets for all? Yes.

Yes. Everybody gets a free hair net. Last time we were there, uh, on the four TVs that I could see from where I was sitting. One of the Broncos preseason games was on one screen. Lord of the Rings was on another one. Um, the Martian was on another one. Like it was like all nerdy stuff except for the football game. Oh, that's great. All right. I'm, I'm feeling, um, I'm feeling a little bit of pull toward the, uh, the pug. No, I love a puncher. So cute. But they're adorable. They're medical. They're kind of a medical pain. Um, they're not as bad as bull, bulldogs, philon and bulldogs are really medical issues. They live like seven years. They're just a mess. But I'm going to say it's like, why am I alive? Let's do a pug. Yeah. Yeah. Show me your pug. Oh, gross. Number 11. Why would you say it like, oh, Jack Russell tied with it. Jack Russell tied with pugs at seven votes each. So that was your number 11. You get another guest, but you don't get any points for that. There are any other dog names that are got a dude's name in it, you know, like Jack Russell. Like we got any more of those like, feels here is.

Give us some. Give us some. Shepard. Give us some guesses. Give us some more dog names that are on the board. Um, no, he's not going to do that. Um, okay. Oh, man, I'm getting in weird territory here. How about a doxin like one of those weird looking doxin doxin doxins? A wee sausage dogs. A wee dog. A wee dog. Yeah. People like that show me doxin dot sound nice job. I think you've mathematically won the game. What's the way does any German dogs in a row? Uh, yep, y'all. Yep. And then you get to be equals which sound Canadian. I know they're not. That's right. So Scott 27 points. Let's see. Brand has five plus 19 plus four is 23. Oh, you could, you could still win if Scott whiffs on this one and you get the last three. I think that's Johnson. All right. Boxer. Oh, that's a good. That's a good. Very good. All right. It's a good one. This might be it. This might be all show me your cute little black and white boxer.

Oh, all right. You're your task is set before you. Shit. Everybody likes them little short-legged corgi things. That's my friend's dog. He loves that thing. People do love their corgis. I look at him and get annoyed. But I hear that they're wonderful little pets. And the other queen. The queen's fond of them. Yeah, she liked them. That's a good point. That's a good one. Well, yeah. What do you think Charles has? I think Charles got big old, gnarly, slobbery dogs. I think that's probably got hard dogs. Hard dogs are starving. Yeah. All right. Show me corgi. Yeah, man. Number four. All right. You're working your way up. Right. Right. Right. A friend also has this. The last two would get you 28 points. All right. I'm going to say what my boy has. My boy, he's got, he just had to have one. And it's a big, then he had a baby.

He has a great dain. Oh, sure. And the people who have their great dains really love their dain. Wonderful dogs. Wonderful dog. Yeah. Because they don't have shit to prove. And they will lay on you and just be amazing. And they don't have to fight nobody because they know they'd win. They're intimidating. Yeah. Scooby-Doo is a great dain too, right? He was right. And they just don't live long enough. They're only problem. Yeah. They're short lives right now. All right. Show me your great dain. Oh. Oh. It's not so great. It's not so great. Great. Let's see. Great dain. I love great dains. 20. I'm sorry. 37 was great dain right under golden doodle. Oh, wow. Yeah. The Claire dain just kidding we're not. How about the Taylor day? Oh, yeah. There's more dains. Okay. My dearest Martha, I'm tired of plain old text to speech that reads every chat message in the same monotonous voice. I wish it had more variety.

We didn't do a... Oh, we haven't done that yet, right? We didn't do the Dalmatian. Yeah, the Dalmatian. Let's get a Dalmatian in there with the most common Dalmatian name.

Spot. Yeah, it is. Or even New York Times Crossword Puzzle thinks a lot. Yeah, those two days ago, right? Ooh, do I suppose something lay there? It was about that. No, it's not spoiler. It's two days ago. Yeah, it's two days ago. You had two days to do that crossword. It was two days before now, then you didn't do it. I didn't do it. I didn't know any of your New York Times. Oh, was it only Ella? The whole family. Oh, look at Mr. Will Schwarz here in South Carolina just keeping it all real. Jesus. Well done. I'm impressed. Holy crap. Show me Dalmatian. Come on. Come on! Oh, no. Dalmatian was number. Do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do. Wow. Well, I hate to get the whole thing. Dalmatian. See how low that was. Jesus. I know. I am not seeing... I could have sworn somebody said Dalmatian, I am not finding a Dalmatian. What is wrong with you guys? That's insane to me. We had one named Cecee. It was short for cookies and cream because you looked like that if you... Oh.

The colors. I was just a dog except the time she barked in the bathroom and it scared me so bad because I didn't know she's in there that I jammed my toothbrush through my cheek. Oh, jeez. I was brushing my teeth and she went, Roar! And I went. Oh my God. And just tore through the... Whatever that... There's like a... Like a... There's like a... There's like a tight little... Oh. The little connector vein. Yeah. It ripped right through that blood from a month. It was off. Did you go... Broory. I did. She went... Roar! And I went... Roar! Anyway. I'm Brian, who two answers on the board. Both of these and you win the game. Miss... Well, not a problem. Well, not a problem. I've got him. I've got him right here in my back pocket. Okay. How about... I don't know. We don't have enough small dogs up here. I see that's a problem. Mm-hmm. Every time we set a small dog, it's been nope a whiff. Mm-hmm. Do we already say... Do we say...

Do... Do... Do... Do... Do... Yeah, we didn't say... I mean, you should start that time, or... Don't you start your guess is out loud because it's... Scout doesn't get another guess. Oh, we can't. Alright, good. I'll say... Higgins Dogs. Actually, it's not Higgins Dogs. It's Higgins. Who's the guy's name? Mr. or his Mankin' PI. I'm thinking about the Domerim Painter's sofa. No. No, Domerim Painter, yeah, that's it. That's a Domerim, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You can leave off the pincher. If you want. Alright, for the game. Pincher. Pincher. Not for the game, really. Oh, and then he just taught us there. He gave it away. He just told me Domerim... Crap. Yeah, I totally... I mean, yay, I won. That's what I guess. Yes. Yeah, your last two here, let's get to him because I know Tom's... Wait, I see him waiting. Oh, sorry Tom. Wait, he's right there in the wings. It's good. It's good. Number nine... Didn't even come up as a guess when you guys were talking about border collies. Oh, it's very popular. Oh, yeah. Number 10, you should have said it. You talked about it, Brian, and you didn't say it.

Pinch... Oh, dang it. Oh, there are... Pitbulls are so maligned. They're wonderful dogs. Pitbulls. Pitbulls who like... Pitbulls. Pitbulls. Pitbulls. Pitbulls. Pitbulls. I always said the same argument. I have no problems with pitbulls. Just be aware. Like a chihuahua. Yeah. Even if it's a mean-ass mother-humper, he can't kill me. Yeah. If he's bad, he's been mistreated or whatever. Even if you're doing a nice thing, like you just need to know the history of the dog. But their disposition overall in dog breeds is very nice. Yeah. We had to be like... It'd be like having a lion and going, yeah, but my lion's really nice. Okay. My daughter had a dog name, Izzy, and they got... Right. They gave her to a friend when Van was about three months old. And the reason they did it wasn't because she was dangerous to the dog. It's because she became so devoted to the baby that she would get mad at other adults trying

to take care of the baby. So that's the kind of loyalty those dogs have. Yes, what dogs have personalities. Yes, what? And they're exposed to environments. It's like everything else is. So yeah. I love that dog. But if it can murder me, I try to keep it as far as ways I can't promise. This is me. It also, like, it'd like eight-a-couch kind of once. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And I love that. Well, she ate sideboards, like the corner, whatever that sideboards. What do you call that, the molding that is at the bottom above the carpet? Oh, hold on. We just did some in her bathroom. It's called Baseboards. Baseboards, thank you. Yes. She would just lay on the... On her side with her mouth on it and just chew it. Yeah. And it's like, we rubbed the fix on it. And that's why we kept her away from doing it. The fix did it. But the whole house smelled like someone was getting over her cold. It did, yes. That's great. Well, well done. That means we have a winner. Oh, good. Two things happen here when that happens. You get a victory pickle.

And congratulations. This goes to Hubrime. What did they win? Bob Finnegan. And congratulations, Bob. You're going to get a copy of Liberated and Bloodshore on Steam. But Andrew Lee, you're going to copy of Quadroids. Also on Steam, all of these courtesy of Judiper. Nice. I don't have... Liberated. I don't know the other two. So this is a rare one of those rare days. I'm not sure what you're all getting, but I'm sure they're good. Watch for your private messages on the Patreon. You'll be getting those right after the show today. Hey, Dunnoway, here's the good news. Today, me and you meet up at 4 p.m. mountain time to discuss a video game. And let's just say pirates are in the air. Oh, Sid Meers. Pirates both from 1987, the original Commodore 64, and the 2004 that came out. Yeah, but I guess for the PC and Windows, and maybe Xbox, I'm trying to remember. I didn't play that one. Scott's got that one. Yeah, we're going to go... What is it? Rapier? What is a cut list?

Cut list to cut list. Cut list to cut list. And I will pronounce it, Sid Meer. Sid Meer. And you'll call it Sid Meer. Okay. That'll be the deal. Meer, Sid Meer. Sid Meer. Sid Meer. Sid Meer. It's going to be great. We'll do a watch retro right after that. Right. 4 p.m. Right here on the YouTube end. Twitch. With Bryan Dunnoway and myself. That sounds like fun. Hey Bryan Dunnoway. Do me one tiny favorite kiss my butt. No, no. And one tiny favorites kiss my butt. Oh right. Exactly. By the way, to September and Jerry Tolbert. Cats was on the list. And number 32 was Cats. Some of the Cats. That's funny. Yeah. Couple people put cats. And my favorite answer was... Well, there was one that was in all caps. Long Heared miniature doxxand. and I just hear the Irish accent coming off of that one. And then, whatever Murray from Mad About You was. Oh, okay, fair. I don't, I couldn't remember what, I thought Murray was their friend, played by Stuart Pancaw or something like that. Oh, the guy that walked the dogs, that was, that's the guy that's been on me in Chicago.

Yeah, no, the guy that walked the dogs was Hankus area. Oh, right. Yeah. Who am I thinking? It was he a neighbor? He was on there for something. I can't think of his name on the side. He was, yeah, no, he was, he was definitely on there. Okay. And Murray was a colleague, a colleague mix. Colley mix. Colley's a great. But the guy you're thinking about is kind, Richard Cahne cheese. Yeah, still I never washed that part of my body. Where he's been on it. It's, it's tattooed. This is where Richard kind of spit on it. That's right. When he did it, it was like, we're right. All right. When he used it every chance I get. All right. Hey, everybody. Time for a new thing. A non-new thing, a regular thing. A new thing today though. Here you go. Isn't technology wonderful. Yeah, it's a sure can be when Tom Merritt joins us. And he's just waiting in the wings very patiently to be here. Tom Merritt, welcome back to the program. Well, thank you, Scott and Brian. It's good to be here. It's great to be here. It's good to have you know. Seven the dog, my dog is mostly husky, but he's part pit bull. Oh, really?

So that would have been 14 points right there. No. We were gonna put Brian on a better footing for sure. He's husky than shepherd than pit bull. Oh, wow. How much of the stereotypic personality of which subbreed did you see the most in the dog, do you think? Yeah, his personality is mostly husky, talkative, impatient. He's got a little of that pit bull chewing and a little of the shepherd guarding thing, but yeah, mostly husky. This is one of your hot, see, this is, Tom's got this hot topic in the mall. Nothing to do with what I'm about to say, but there are three hot topics Tom has. The ready at any time as far as I'm concerned. It's dog breeds and dogs, baseball in St. Louis and K-pop. Yeah. The Cardinals have made it much more interesting than they should have this year. And I'm going to see Les Serafem tonight at Crypto Arena. Nice. Wonder if they're pooped from their time at Blizzcon, I wonder, I don't know. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know. Do you know how long did they play at Blizzcon?

How long was it sitting? I was about 45 minutes, I think. Okay. They still probably do like triple that at the show, right? Yeah, those were two hours. Yeah. Yeah. And the one, the Blizzcon one, my understanding is they, oh, was it going to say about that? I forgot, there was something. There were something while they were, but oh no, that's what you said, they streamed it. It was a, that's the weird YouTube and Weverse. That's the weird thing about this year's Blizzcon generally speaking was that nothing was, was held back by a paywall of any kind. Nice. I don't know if you could have any of that. And what was odd is at first, it looked like the music performance, they said it's in room only. This will not be streamed. They met Blizzcon wouldn't stream it. But then Lacer FM streamed it or hive their, their agency streamed it. Yeah, yeah, that's true, because you couldn't get it on the same channels. Yeah, although some channels that were just carrying the coast stream, just carried right into it and coast streamed that. Yeah, well, that's great. I hope you have fun and that you walk away with whatever t-shirt you don't own yet.

Do you, do you already have a Lacer FM light stick? I'm sure you do. Oh, yeah. Yeah. No, and when we went to see them in Yokohama, I bought the Che-1 baseball jersey, which you could only get in Japan. Wow. I'm wearing that. Very cool. Is that what the dawn right now? That's cool. No, I know. I know. Because it's not Jersey than this one. What's the, what's the shirt with the 42 on it? What do we got? This is an old geek shirt that's just 42. Oh, because it's, because yeah, the life in the university and all that, all right? The life in the university and everything. And all that stuff, the restaurant and the cow. It's the end zip. It's the end zip. Well, thank you. Yeah. It's, it's really good to have you here. We're going to answer one of these tech questions. We finally got one that was more than a paragraph. You guys really going all in this week, but the longer question. You don't pick them based on how long they are, right? No, I do like them when they're short, but also interesting. Those are, that's a magical combination. That's the best combo for sure. But this is long and interesting. It is. It's down while you, I can't stand for this whole thing.

No, it's a big one. And it's Ryan and Michigan, which makes it even harder. Just kidding, Ryan. We love when we hear from you. He says this, I've been playing or, sorry, I've been playing the same subscription-based VR workout game called Supernatural, which is Sarah Lane, and it's way into this or what. Yeah, she still is. Anyway, for the past five years, I need routine in my life and it's how I start most, almost every day. Over the years, I met a lot of amazing people through the game. Some have become real life friends. It's helped me lose 40 pounds. Jesus, Louise, that's fantastic. That's great. Last year, Meta bought the game. I remember when that happened. And I also, I remember having this worry, but we'll get to that in a second. And it slowly began to feel like the life was being drained out of it. Not long after Meta announced that it would no longer be creating new content for the game. Early this year, many of the people who made Supernatural, what it is, including all of the coaches, the original developer, and some behind the scenes members of the team announced that they were creating a new version of the game, which is expected to launch in December. I guess it'll be a new name too, but anyway.

I'm thrilled that the game will live on and that I won't lose the morning workout routine and it has become such an important part of my life. At the same time, I'm nervous about what the future holds. A new company is taking over a product that already had an established community. And there's no guarantee that it will succeed. Are there examples from the tech world that something similar, or sorry, world of something similar actually succeeding? Or are my concerns about the future justified? Thanks, as Ryan. My first thought, I always go to the nature of the games business right now, because there are a lot of examples of like a studio bought by Sony, let's say. They did this with that, I forgot the name of the game. The game that failed within like 12 days and they pulled it. And I forgot the name of it. Anyway, it was like supposed to be a big Overwatch killer. Game is a service game. Someone in the chat's gonna remember the name and I'm gonna be annoyed that I forgot it. Anyway, that thing came and went. It's a big, huge, famous example of like bad marketing. They didn't really do it right. There was a lot of problems before. They maybe shouldn't have approved it in the start.

Concorde, that's it. Concorde, people say Concorde. So within like 12 days, that thing was shut down or less than that, or maybe a few days more than that. I don't remember. But it flew as fast as a Concorde right into failure. Yeah, right into the sun. That's what it did. And at the end of it all, they shut the studio down. And this was an example of them buying this promising studio and now it look like, oh, flush with money. All the opportunities are there for them. They can keep going and go crazy and instead it's the exact opposite of that. And there are many examples of this, but not just in gaming, other parts of the tech world. So Tom, how justified are his feelings? What's your overall on this talk? I mean, yes. Whenever there's a big change in resources and organization, that is always a risk. And so it's right to be like, oh, I really like this. I hope it survives. It's also harder when you go independent as Scott and I know. Because you don't get the resources that you have when you're under that big corporate umbrella.

Bungie is an interesting example. Member Microsoft bought it in 2000 and then spun it back out in 2007 and then Sony acquired it in 2022. So that's something to look at is like, oh, it might actually just end up getting acquired by somebody else. They just have to survive long enough and then maybe they can get that corporate money. I mean, Bungie may not be the greatest example, especially if you were a destiny fan. Yeah. Things are a little weird over there and the laid off ton of people. Yeah, yeah. But it is an example of like they didn't flat out fail and Haylor didn't go away, right? PayPal's probably a better example here. PayPal was acquired by eBay in 2002 then spun back out as a public company in 2015 and it has of course gone on to be incredibly successful. So there's an example of and granted its financial so it's a little bit different. But there's an example of a company that, you know, it went into the corporate coffers

and then got spun back out, but it's succeeded for years and years and years. So it is a little bit of a target for acquisition or merger right now again, but that's a long time away from 2015, right? So it's, who's got their eye on her right now? Does that, I don't think that there's any particular company that is leading right now. I've heard Square, you know, was looking at it or something like that. But those rumors seemed to have settled back down. I feel like maybe PayPal was trying to foster them to see if they could, you know, up a price, haven't heard anything more recently. So they may, they may end up just staying independent. We'll see. But you know, even if they did get sold this year, 11 years later, that's, that's pretty great. And they own, they own Venmo, right? So they have kind of all the, yeah, right. The cool kid internet pay stuff sort of. Yes, yeah, anyway, you want to pay. Yeah, you want to be a cool kid? Use Venmo and forget the PayPal owns it. You want to be a stodgio guy like me?

Use PayPal because I mean, it's become crucial to the business. Like PayPal, without PayPal, I don't know what the last 10 years look like for me. Right. And that was a company that when it was spun out in 2015, I don't think it was as doubtful as supernatural because it wasn't as small. But it was like, oh, can they survive on their own? There's lots of payment options now in a way that there wasn't in 2002 when eBay bought them. So I think that's probably your best example. Skype is another example. Also eBay bought it in 2005 and then spun it back out in 2009. And obviously it's been shut down. So it's not the greatest example, but it was bought by Microsoft when it was very successful. So it got spun out as an independent and did great and did great enough to be acquired. And you could argue it just outlived its time. And that's why Microsoft shut it down because teams and Zoom and other things passed it by. But it declined while under corporate ownership, not independent. So if you're looking at a good, it went independent and succeeded story.

Skype's another good one to look at. It does seem like if Microsoft, Apple, Google, or Meta, let's say, buy your company, there's that, I think that should make people a little nervous if they're invested in it staying exactly how it is and not changing the things you like the most about it. So like Instagram, if you go back and look at Instagram, like Instagram is wildly successful for Meta. You could argue it's their most important social imprint, right? There's an argument to be made for that. And Meta owns it. But when that thing started and it's very basic features, it was this quirky little thing and it kind of grew organically and it did all these things. If you go back and it's hard to do this, but if you could go back in time, I suppose we could do it the way back machine or something, but look at old Instagram. And then compare it to what that thing is now. That thing has been bodily moved in the direction that Meta needs to move it. And there's no way that somebody who loved the state of it back in the day, there's no way that this is what that is still to them.

They may still use it, but it's not the same. Any more than X is for original 2008 Twitter people, 2007, whatever. So I get this feeling of like there's something personal about the thing that really got you and pulled you in like this supernatural app. And the way Sarah talked about it, like I felt like she had some real, this is like the most passionate person I had ever heard talk about her workout routine because VR and supernatural were changing the way she did it. And it was like fundamental. And so to hear that that was getting chewed up, changed, left to the side, squandered, whatever is a, it's just a bummer feeling. So there's a lot of, I can tell you this, as somebody who is deeply ingrained in the steam ecosystem, I love it. I fear the day where Gabe Newell dies, new people are in charge, changes are made, maybe somebody finally says, you know, that idea of not going public, we're not doing that, we're going public.

It was dumb not to go public. And then going public changes, expectations, and how to stay permanently profitable changes, all these sorts of things change. I fear those days because this is, it's not like this stuff hasn't happened before. Yeah, so he may be in this same boat with this and the new thing may not be as good. Like these are all possibilities, but I think the good news here is that the base, the people who made Supernatural are added again. Yeah, I think that's the more important part. There is the risk of financial success, not coming and keeping it going, but when a company is bought by a bigger company, that bigger company has its own goals and it has its own directions. And that smaller company may like Instagram, swim right inside that and continue to develop and grow because it's aligned well. Sometimes the company that bought it thought they were going to use it for something and then they changed their mind or a market conditions changed and you end up seeing Skype get shut down, right?

And so the difficult, I think we often misinterpret it. Like, oh, the big bad company acquires something and they want to squelch it. No company acquires another company because they want to shut it down. It has happened, but it's incredibly rare. You don't spend that amount of money and trouble and regulatory approval just to trash something. You think you're gonna get something valuable out of it. So most of the time when you buy something, it's like, oh, we think it aligns with our goals, but in a company that's really big, those goals change fast and you're not attached to the reason the company was founded, the way the founders are. Which is, that's the positive for Supernatural is like, you've got the folks who believe in this product running it. And to me, that's the most important part is that you're able to do that. And your Gabe Newell example is a great example of that too. Like, he's the one who has the vision and the understanding of what that vision is. And when he's gone, maybe you'll have a Tim Cook, maybe you won't.

You know, it's hard to say. So. Who will be the capable hands after Gabe leaves? I don't know. Another positive example, it's not from the tech world is Harley Davidson. Harley Davidson was sold in 1969. And then in 1981, a bunch of people bought it back and made it independent again. But a bunch of people who believed in it and Harley Davidson is incredibly successful since then. So, you know, to me, it's what's most important is, are the people in charge of it believers in that product? And then it's subject to market conditions and demand and you know, can it actually make money and be a viable business? But the most important thing is, do you have people who believe in it? So, supernatural has a leg up in that. Yeah, plus I think it's just good for us once a while to be reminded that all things are ephemeral. And certainly in the tech world, things are maybe even extra ephemeral. You occasionally get a company that thrives for IBM levels. But look how much they had to change to thrive and stay

and exist. So, it's just the nature of it. No one from 1900 is alive now. No, not one. I think about that all the time. I know you do. I like to look at you. When Tom and I were doing, nobody doubts that. What was the show where we did the movies? What was I called? Not autopilot. It was a autopilot. Was it autopilot? Yeah, but that was for pilots though. What did we do? Oh no. We went and watched all the classic movies. What did we call that? That was a current geek thing. Was it? It might have been. Anyway, when we did, we did Casablanca. I remember that day. That day in particular, it was crazy because I just look at that IMDB list and nobody's around. The camera people, dead. Everybody's there in the room, gone. And I had a dream that the whole, the bar where I'd play it again, Sam or all that stuff happens. All of them are gone. This is an empty place with nobody in it making a movie. It's so weird to me. All that energy's gone. So it's just good, I think,

to wrap your head around the ephemeral nature of man. Everything changes. The only thing constant is change. Yeah. I like that. Oh, I thought there was going to be more there. That's it. That's all I got. The only absolute if there are no absolutes. There you go. Right. Reduce your attachments. I don't know. We're getting very zed up. Sure. But here's the good news. We didn't talk about AI today at all. And that was fantastic. Hi, how you doing, Dan? Oh no, we just did it. Oh no. What have I done? You had to bring it up. Well, hurry up in the show, and we're on it by telling us what's going on on DTS. Or anything else you have going on right now. Oh, yeah. DTS is great. We've got a new format for our Friday show that Scott took part in last Friday. Super fun, by the way. How do I look? I'm glad you think so. The big tech question of the week, where we do a little debate style format, where everybody takes a different angle on whatever the big tech question and tech news is that week. We also have some weekend stuff coming out. Last week, Sarah Lane would let a round table

on the new Apple phones. This weekend, Roger Chang and Patrick Norton talking about what to do with your old cables. That'll be a Saturday show. And then on Sunday, Jason Howell is going to be talking to Scott Stein from CNET about the steam frame. Oh, nice. Because Scott got a chance to play with it ahead of launch. So they'll be digging a little deeper into that. So that's all available on the good old fashion daily tech news show feed. If you're like, oh, yeah, you still listen to DTNS. Come on back. There's never been a better time. We will keep you up to speed on an increasingly turbulent technological world. Yeah, you'd like the turbulence. Guess what? That ain't going away. Yeah, we'll make you feel a little better about it. In fact, Justin Robert Young's spot on Monday talking about the intersection of politics and AI, even made Rob Dunn would go, oh man, when Jury's on it, just makes me calm down, makes me feel better. So I want to listen to that one if you haven't already. I'll bet that one's good. There's also, you know, you're doing some really good work in this area is Dan Patterson,

who we both know. Oh, yeah, Dan's great. His stuff where they're, the company works for right now. They do like, they can tell when, when they're doing like, up to the second sort of misinformation campaign tracking and how AI falls into it and like where the bots are actually coming from and what they're focused on with any particular issue or whatever. That's a good idea. Oh, you totally should do it. His stuff right now is freaking fascinating. Anyway, it is Tom Merritt, everybody. He is ace detect on all the social media places where he's like the one human in the rest of bots. So go check that out. Tom have a great week. We'll see you next time. Bye now. Bye, Thomas Emeritus. He puts his name in the thing is full caps. Yeah, he did like K-pop band. Yeah, I feel like, is that a thing K-pop band bands? Yeah, yeah. When you look at in hyphen or twice or LeSarifim, it's always in all caps. I didn't know that was like a trend or like a... I don't know why, but yeah. You think they have a thing where they're like into,

I don't know, there's some cultural thing or something. I don't know. They just want their band names to be louder than other bands and much, much louder than Katie Lang. Just not hard to do. That's right. Okay, real quick here in email from Herbie, not Hancock and not the car. Just a new... Not the robot that assists the fantastic for. No, none of them. I always forget that thing's called Herbie. Yeah, there's some... There's some Taffy guy actually sent me a link to a dude that has made a 3D print full size Herbie that you can download and print yourself so you can have a little full size Herbie. How big is it? Like a four footer or something? Yeah, yeah. Like, you know, you can see where I'm putting my hand, but about waist high it looks like. You can do it, you're gonna make one? No, no. I mean, I don't think so. It's one more thing to have to store and dust and what am I gonna do with it after I print it? It's gonna be really cool for the few minutes after I print it and then be like, yeah, now what am I doing with this thing?

Yeah, I'm trying to get rid of stuff. I don't need to add things. Same thing. Yeah, oh, here's a, let me give you an image. Oh yeah, let's see it. Copy image. And, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, okay. All right, here we go. It's in our discord. Excellent. Oh yeah, and that's at your average man next to it. It's your average man. That is the average man in blue jeans and a T shirt. Kind of average high school kid. I guess. Yeah, yeah, exactly. Five, nine, that's a bad average. Yeah, that's pretty good. Yeah, 3.2 feet? Yeah. Based more on the film or the, Yes. Okay. film, not based on the the old cartoon Herbie, which I liked a little bit better. And I liked it too. Yeah. I watched some of the old Spider-Man yesterday. The old Spider-Man like the 60s one. Okay. Yeah. Does whatever Spider-Can era. Man. It is so excellently cheesy. It is. Yeah. It totally is. And the, you know, the fact that they decide just save time by only drawing webs on his head and drawing it on the

head of his body. His chest is all just red. Yeah. His gloves have a slight one, but it's super like really simple like three lines. Right. Right. But they just couldn't justify it. And then they repeat animation a hundred times over for every episode. Yes. I freaking love it though. That's great. So cheesy. All right. Have you watched, have you watched any of the new Disney plus Spider-Man? No. No. A friendly anymore. Spider-Man as well. It's good. I have not yet. I keep hearing good things about it. I've seen just by hanging around here because Ramona is obsessed with it. But she loves Spidey and his friends on Disney. And it's kind of cute because it's like they got a weird little Modak kids version of Modak and a kids version of the Hulk who's the Hulk. The Hulk's prank. He's like, oh, I'm angry, but I'm doing pretty good kids. You know, right? Hulk feel pretty good today. Yeah. And Tony Stark just kind of comes off as a purve because he's got a mustache and he shouldn't be around these kids. Right. Yes. I love it though. It's cheesy and dumb and

great. Yeah. All right. Here's this email. This is from Herbie. That's the right one. This is about the jugs of pee. Herbie says I didn't mean to add to the Texarkana confusion. Generally speaking, the Texas side is considered the nicest side. That said, Texas side is not all that great to start with. Love the show though, Herbie. That was my memory is the Texas side was nicer. So maybe it's not nice in general, but in comparison, relatively speaking, it's nicer than the Arkansas side. So there you know. We can finally put that we can finally put that one to bed. Can we finally put it? To bed. All right. To bet footed to rest, Scott. May as well be me. Right. Right. Right. Right. Still not sure what he said because he paused a long time after that and never finished. Oh, really? Okay. We don't know what he was in just that wasn't just an Arby's beef and cheddar coming back.
