And welcome to another episode of newsroom for Anfield Index. It is Friday the 4th of September. It is game day, isn't it? It's weird saying that on a Friday, but it is the truth at 8 pm tonight. The Reds will take the field, Portman Road away at Ipswich, bidding to get their first win under Andoni Iriola. There's also no talk about people criticizing the fullbacks. People wanting different people at fullbacks. People have got all opinions on fullbacks. There's still transfer talk. There's still even a side of the news this morning.
Even with the window officially closing a couple of days ago, there's recriminations from how bad it's been. There's hope for the season coming. But it's still on the page. Will we talk him? And your host Dave Davis coming to you from. It's pretty gloomy in Edinburgh in all honesty. Fingers crossed. It's a little bit nicer in the world wherever you are. But we've hit that season of wind going and you know, like the horizon all rain going across. The thing fingers crossed. It's a little bit nicer in the world wherever you are. But when we talk Liverpool, as we say, I always like. Maybe it's just me this graphic port. I like that phrase as well. Taking on Ipswich under the Friday night lights. I'm pretty sure that's American football series. But anyway, the graphic is out from Liverpool. You've got Van Dyke, Ezek, they'll definitely be starting. You've got Moonos on the graphic as well. Will he be starting on the wing?
That is probably to come anyway. We'll talk about predicted lineups for this game. When it's also the start of a huge week, isn't it? It's the starper and Doni or four Liverpool and Doni Raiola. Three games a week. One away to at home. It's tonight, then Athletic Home would read on Wednesday. Saturday, full home. So we'll probably see things like squad rotation. Certain players getting into the mix. We know this is completely different from what Anna slot used to do. We think anyway. We've not seen it yet. Where it used to be 12, 13, hell or high water. And often it was hell in all honesty, wasn't it? So we'll see what comes tonight. As Taps says there, I just hope the Gaffer knows what he's doing, taking him out the Champions League squad. Because if injury strikes and Champions League, I would tell the Gaffer, I cannot play a good look. Yeah, it's... If anyone's missed the announcement about the Champions League squad and who's been admitted, most importantly, we will come to that.
But also tonight, we await the debut. Before the season even kicks off, soccer fans are already making predictions. Who wins the league? Who qualifies for Europe? And who's lifting the trophy at seasons end? On Kalshi America's number one prediction market platform, your trading against peers in a live market, meaning there's no house. From the start, maybe from the bench of this man, Bradley Barcola, the huge money sign in the market, signing all this summer. And even Lewis and Rikai said, yesterday, Barcola, that's a different story. He's going tremendously uphavys, but he also helped the team grow just as much.
He want a more playing time. I couldn't guarantee it to him. In the end, I think everyone comes out a winner. I genuinely wish him all the best. I hope so. I hope everyone comes out a winner. We're excited to see him. This is your hope that the left winger for many a year, the Liverpool is attributes, the pace running in behind. It's exciting. It isn't it's something else for Florian Verts. Alexander Reza to look linked with. We seem to love these £100 million plus players. Let's hope they perform at the same time. And tell there, say it, three points would be a good start to the weekend. Damn right, it will be. We'll come to predictions on what it means as well shortly though. Bandooni Raiola is obviously been pivotal in securing Bradley Barcola. And he taught yesterday, there's a little bit of the embargo as well, wasn't it? I always have the feeling with Bradley. I didn't need to convince him to come. I didn't ever think I would need to convince him,
but sometimes when you talk to players, you'd feel you have to sell your idea and the club. I think because he got the experience of basing Liverpool in the last two seasons, you felt the state we felt the club he was really convinced. All the questions he was asking were about football, tactics and the position he's going to play. Now, predominantly he's going to be on the left wing, but he could be in the middle. There's even possibility as if I ordered to with this one. He could be on them right on occasions as well. But we've heard Hugo Eckerts' EK was pestering their recruitment staff over this as well. Sex sighting now, isn't it? Yeah, there needs to be things that happen. Yeah, and as Echo has been there, it says that. Barcola just needs consistency now to make a world class. I know that place to do it. Yeah, we tend to make them rather than buy them. Let's hope he takes that next step as it were. So it's exciting. Still feel it's going to be bench duty for Bradley Barcola, but we will see.
Now, when you think of Liverpool at the moment, anything concerns on what people are talking about, as much as we're going to talk, McPhil today, fullback keeps coming up and everyone's talking. About our fullbacks. And when I say everyone, I mean, everyone pundits national team managers. Of course, we were all over talking about right back yesterday. So, challenging this quad now is we don't have Connor there, a right back. That's why I value Dom, a right back as he can play there. Verse Tilt in the play helps us go through the moments when we have injuries in midfield. We have good numbers. Now, we mentioned say, Barcola, Barcola, the Boslite, I forgot to say, he even mentioned a rowhole as a right back option as well. And as Save the Manual says there, the real question is, who starts at right back? I don't think Boslite starts today, but Gapco. Yeah, it's right back.
And he was pressed, which is the right question at the presser, about Dominic, Boslite at right back. Interesting answer. I haven't found any situation where a player has told me, no, I don't want to play here. Yeah, but also Dominic, Boslite, signed a new contract. And he has mentioned about hopefully you'll do for the team, but not right back at the same time. Now, did anyone clock this? You Hungarian journalist, a reporter this as well, the Dominic, the Boslite, say, professional football on his profile, on Instagram and places for Liverpool. Now, it says, professional midfielder for Liverpool. Yeah, just as all the talk is, about him being a right back.
I don't think he's going to be honest now. I don't think he cares. Need him to do what's best for the team. He signed a contract. He's talked about wanting to be a leader. If he writes all the things he's best, a right back, that's where he needs to play. I would argue he is. It's not a perfect solution by any means, but Liverpool don't have a perfect right back in the squad right now. Liverpool don't really have a natural right back. Everyone has it as their alternative position, even Frimpong who's the right wing back, as we know. But it is where we are right now. And by the way, he started just Frimpong and right back that's being talked about. The left backs come up. The back mill of Kirkhead, did anyone clock this? He did an official interview yesterday. And he said, obviously not ideal to talk about the start. Two points, but if you take the negatives out, we didn't lose. We saw right, we need to start winning games. For us, especially as defenders, we keep wanting to keep playing sheets
and the target is you don't want them to score. So we worked on that. We worked to correct these things in the week, so I think it could get better. Liverpool haven't looked any hidden like a team that could stop, wait, oh, you'll get clean sheets, stop soft goals. That's been what's happened so far. We scored some nice ones, but we looked soft to shit through the middle and at fullback. Yeah. So there's that. I'm not sure Kirkhead Kirkhead, I think that's a good start for the season. He has no point pretending any differently, saved the manual there saying, supposed to help to us at right back now. He's putting in some great crosses compared to Frimponc and use him like clockmate TN, T-8, it's inverted, CM. You could talk about the inverted. Isn't really how we write all that asks his full backs to play. That's important to say, but maybe there's no adjustment made. Crossed inaccuracy for the boss lies about 30% this season. Frimponc about 11, but it is a very small sample size. Frimponc's crossing quality was never really something
that Liverpool bought him for. It's the fact sounds crude, but if you look at his numbers at LeBacuse and you slam the ball in the box, it was volume, wasn't it? Yeah. It's a big decision, but right back, the left back needs to step up and the left back may last kerkez. He was getting, I'm it wasn't he on the overlap. Did anyone see that yesterday? Me and even Carreger said their understanding of the game is really, really poor. You're watching the game and thinking, why has he done that? I described kerkez last season. It was his first season. Maybe it was a bit harsh at the time. He's the Darwin-Nuners of full backs. It's just let head down and run. Everything kerkez does is a hundred miles an hour. The 14 kerkez for 40 million. He's had his first season. It wasn't amazing, but right, you go, okay, Raiola's come in. He knows him. He still are left back and he robert some move, dumb, without another left back. All those were probably not going to spend another 40 million another.
He's our left back. Let's have him another year. You've got to give kerkez time under Raiola without doubt. Raiola did get him in. The team of the season, no doubt about that at all. But let's not pretend it's big of a good start for the season four. Milas kerkez. He carried us right in the sense of he does everything a hundred miles an hour. All of kerkez's abilities are physical based. I said this to her mate yesterday. He's like, no, the not. I was like, how'd you not get football? Like they bought kerkez because of his running power. That engine up and down. The flank you actually saw as per the stats in his last season at Bournemouth. No one in the Premier League made more over up lapping runs. Except the problem is we've used him in buildup which is where his weaknesses are exposed. Yeah. And he is, I'd said this on another part. The full box of a little bit brain dead at times.
Everything is but you know, football IQ is distinctly lacking. It is one of the areas by the way that he's got a soul. Irreola. One might be to take rim pong out the team but yeah, and it's not just, it's not just pundits. National team managers are taking shots as well. Did anyone clock this? Norway manager Staley Solvacken, a Liverpool fan, slams them. As he said, the full backs are a walking nightmare defensively. Kirk has to be able to seem to get it right even with his old manager. Frimpong is for me, positionally weak and better going forward than going back. Wooshed. Carregor, the overlap, national managers. Everyone's coming for our full backs at the moment. They've not had a good start the season. We have to be careful with two games in. But I do agree with the sense of, we need to see a marked improvement.
I kept fine, Larditt said that. Why not at least in the manager of it? I was thinking that at the time I was like, I've no way got any Liverpool players. Am I missing something? No, they've not. But everyone wants to take shots. Don't they? As it were. Mike Selyan as well. Kirk has will get better but it'll never be an under-robot sense. I think we need to lower our expectations. I think part of the problem for these two is they were bought. It's not their fault. I think, but you know, I think just, Frimpong's just going to be a bad buy person. He's just been misprofile. But there's 75 million quid between them. So Liverpool will feel they've got to get some sort of a tune on that. You know, they'll be totally real though. Well, you've got, you know, we need to get something out of these. Still think Frimpong's best out the team personally. But Kirk has needs to do more at the same time. I agree though, with the point, that pre-deceivers and how many assists, how good they were. That kind of weighs a bit on them.
But they need to do that. Francis go. Simicast needs to start and Jack K. Zoroz must needs to become the right back. He seems a great guy. Does loads for charity and stuff like that. Boy, Costa Simicast is the answer. How many drugs are involved in the question in all honesty? Yeah. Now talking to right back. Can the tenant I'm not convinced with Frimpong? I think you've got question marks there. People will go, well, there are others. Well, yeah. Well, we've got an update on Connor Bradley and everything yesterday. So in case you missed it, national team managers are back again. Put a different one this time. So let's get the right one. Did say on Joe Gomez, Joe Gomez will probably start with us next week. I hope we can have him before the break. Here's part of the solution now for me. Treat Gomez as a right back.
Use Van Dyke, Jack K. A Raoho and obviously Leoni will be back in not too long, which we said treat Joe Gomez and manage him as best as possible as a right back. I would rather see Joe Gomez every day twice on Sunday at right back as opposed to Jeremy for him, Pong. And he played there on, you know, he's got experience there in all sorts of teams. But, by the way, for you say it, is he made of cheat strings? Yes, will he break it down? Manage it as best as you possibly can. The more we see Joe Gomez at right back this season, the better I think it will be overall for the team. I genuinely mean that. Now in terms of other people coming back, so mention if you were the defenders there, as he said, the next one is Leoni. He could be training during the break with the group. So that's good news. Connor and especially Hugo, a longer, which again, he's another reason why I would say
when Joe messes back, treat him as a right back, you know, it managed it through this as best as possible. But I would rather see Gomez at right back. I'd rather see Sabaz Bly at right back though I get it leaves a short of running power in the middle, even if Sabaz Bly is just like a spaniel in there and make some odd decisions. Yeah, as Max says there, if you play Gomez at right back and let Kirk as ball on the down, we're staying back effectively, having a back three at times. I think that's not how we ride all the plays. We have to accept that. So Gomez will be tasked with defending spaces, pushing on like here, I all the rassy spullbacks to do. But there you go.
