US defends its naval blockade of Venezuela at the United Nations

U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz argued that the blockade is designed to deny the "illegitimate" Maduro regime access to oil profits used to fund the Cartel de los Soles, which the U.S. designated a "Foreign Terrorist Organization" in November 2025. During an emergency UN Security Council meeting on December 23, 2025, the United States defended its naval blockade of Venezuela, framing it as a necessary security measure to eradicate "narco-terrorism".
