Have you ever stopped to think about what really happens when our time on Earth comes to an end? You're listening to His light, your path, with Pastor Rod Hall or Senior. Today's devotional is called victory over death. In this devotional, Pastor Hall will help us see why, because of Jesus we can face death without fear. 1 Corinthians 15-55 Oh death, where is thy sting? Oh grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God which give us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 6-23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Death, the great truth of life. In our youth, we don't seem to appreciate that one day we will die.
It's not that we don't know that we will die, but in our youth, that day seems so far away. I remember thinking that 40 was old. But now 40 doesn't seem so old. Where did the time go? And one day we will die. We may postpone that day by medical intervention, but inevitably we will die. It is amazing how much we invest to stay alive knowing that one day we will die. We ought to put our effort into preparing for eternity. Let us accept the fact that death is certain. We do not have to fear death. Jesus conquered death for us. He did what man could never do. He conquered death therefore. He made it possible that man does not have to fear death. How did Jesus conquer death?
By his own death, burial and resurrection. He was the perfect lamb that was slain to take away the sin of the world. Because he was perfect, the father accepted that sacrifice on the cross and the debt was paid. Jesus willingly gave his life on the cross of Calvary. Think about this wonderful sacrifice. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice. He was perfect because he had no sin. Therefore, let us note the words of Paul. Romans 6.23, the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord. If the wages of sin brought death and if Jesus was perfect, he had no sin, then how did he die? He willfully lay down his life. Luke 23.46 records, when Jesus cried with a loud voice, he said,
Father, into thy hands I command my spirit. And having said thus, he gave up the ghost. Think about it. Man cannot kill God. The soldiers beat him more than any other man. Isaiah 52 records as many were asked denied at thee. His visage was so marred more than any man and his form more than the sons of men. Yet they could not kill him, for he was without sin. Therefore Jesus had to willfully give up the ghost when his work was finished. Praise God for his unspeakable gift. No more does man have to fear death. Trusting in the shed blood of Jesus to pay your sin debt is all that is needed for eternal life. Ephesians 289 4 by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.
Not of works, less than any man should boast. Thank you for joining us for Pastor Haller's devotional victory over death. We will remind you today that death is something we almost face.
