Virginia Women's Basketball Stuns Iowa, Advances

On March 24, Virginia's women's basketball team kept its surprising

tournament run alive by beating 2nd-seated Iowa 83-75.

The 10th-seated Cavaliers punched their ticket to the Suite 16 for the first time since

2000.

They're the only double-digit seeds still standing this year.

Their journey started in the first four, with a win over 10th-seated Arizona State, followed

by a first-round victory against 7th-seated Georgia.

State coach Amaca Agugua Hamilton, known as Coach Mox, has led this underdog squad through

every step.

Don Staley, the South Carolina coach and former Virginia star from the late 1980s to early

1990s, cheered them on after her.

Own team advanced.

Staley, a multiple ACC player of the year during her college days, called it a big moment

for the program's legacy.

Now in the Sacramento region, Virginia faces 3rd-seated TCU next in the Suite 16.

South Carolina takes on 4th-seated Oklahoma, setting up a possible Elite 8 clash between

Staley and her old school.

Virginia's first tournament trip since 2018 revives memories of their strong runs from

the mid-1980s to early 2000s, including four straight final fours.

With momentum building, they look ready for even more.
