Because my sharp tennis eye saw that Fritz was yelling at his coach and pounding. And it seemed like emotionally he was on thin ice. And then Sarandulo, Francisco Sarandulo, where I was shouting, calling him, let's go Frankie in a crowd full of people who were a little annoyed as I was rooting against the American. If the US Open saw him win three straight sets to win that match as me, car or me, uh, pony and Danny enjoyed the US Open quite a bit.

Before we get to the main topics of today, I would like, we put out a clip from last week's show a couple of, I think we put it out Monday. And it was my, and I did it again this same bit with Simmons last night, which was the,

8:16you know, tell me what Josh Allen's greatest playoff win is or not playoff win. I didn't say playoff one. I just said, what's Josh Allen's greatest win? And then I said, it's a loss. And, you know, I never really know which, what signature moment, signature win, and it's a loss. I never really know what, what takes of mine. Sometimes I do, but sometimes I little surprised with which ones cut, you know, go viral, if you will. And I was a little surprised that Josh Allen one did because I've said that many times that his signature moment in the NFL was a loss. Um, but that one took off. And there is a near unit, not unanimous, but certainly majority response to that saying his signature moment was when the bills scored seven touchdowns on seven possessions against the Patriots, the game before the 13th Seconds game.

9:18And then I was underplaying the excellence displayed in that game by him and by his team. And I thought about that. And it also kind of ended the Patriots and Bellachack. Like that was the, you know, that was the Patriots scene with Mac Jones that had made the playoffs. And it's like, oh man, they're still going to be around. That was the same year. The Patriots had beaten the bills in that wind game where Bellachack didn't let Mac Jones throw the ball and they won anyway. And that that was the signature moment and that I was overlooking it. And Brett Coleman, who I like a lot, uh, quote tweeted it, uh, and said that that was it and some other people said it as well. To, to which I would say, because there was just another today sports illustrated, did a poll of a hundred executives on who's going to be the best quarterback at the end of this season and Josh ran away with it. It's just another, you know, line in the march of Josh Allen's best quarterback alive.

10:20And so in response to the idea that I overlooked that patch game, I apologize. Maybe I did. But I think you kind of see my own struggle with this where if the signature moment is a wild card win five years ago, I'm a little conflicted on joining the overwhelming majority who are just in line that this is clearly the best player in the league. But we listen, he gets a hell of an opportunity week one against a Texans team that you could argue has forced the two worst games of his non rookie career out of him. The last two times he's played Houston and played that defense and they got DJ Moore. James Cook, the Russian, James Bexel will see. But I don't want, we spent a ton of time on Josh Allen last week. We don't need to do it again.

11:20But while I'm not big on checking mentions and such, if the, if there is enough of an almost universal response to something I said, people thinking I missed something, I'll acknowledge it there. Before we get to the NFL Demons, I do want to get to college football from this weekend. So go ahead. Yeah, week one of college football is officially in the books and the big story is out of the Michigan and Western Michigan game. The hell Mary was one second left or no seconds left and then there was a second. What happened? Yeah. So the reason I want to talk about this and I'm going to spend a lot of time on it. And this is a bit of a hobby horse of mine. But at some point, I wonder if we will gain enough positive momentum on the side, the right side of the this debate, which is replay and sports does not make the games better.

12:26More watchable or most importantly for many more fair. And this, this Western Michigan Michigan ending is a great example, a great example of how you can understand why someone would write a rule that says, oh well certainly something that's reviewable is a clock error. And even if you strict replay down to the studs, one of the things you would leave in as, you know, the the the barest minimum of things that should be able to be reviewed, we would say is a clock error. Like that's black and white, that's yes or no, that's binary. And even those types of reviews cannot be trusted to be adjudicated properly. And the only path, the only available path to remove that type of outrageous

13:35theft from Western Michigan, an outright theft of what would have been the greatest moment for all of those players athletic careers, beating Michigan on the road after thoroughly outplaying them for 60 minutes. The only way to remove that type of egregious error from taking place is to remove replay entirely. And we so often, like think about just in the last handful of football games, let me put it like this. If we go back to last year's NFL, the end of the NFL season, or if we go back to like the end of the season, the playoffs, what are the moments replay came up, came up, and we feel like man, that saved a huge mistake.

14:46And what are the moments replay came up when we say you've got to be kidding me. One could argue, the super bowl, not one could argue, the path to the super bowl in arguably was altered by one of the most bizarre replay decisions any of us have ever seen, which was in Seahawks Rams, regular season near the end of the year, that determined the one seed that determined who won that division, that very well may have determined the Seahawks winning the super bowl. When the Seahawks went for a two point conversion, for everyone watching everyone involved, it was an incomplete pass. A couple seconds after the pass was incomplete, a player didn't dive on the ball, a player didn't fight for the ball, was walking past the ball, laying on the ground and picked it up with one hand, and then walked off the field. And somehow instant replay determined actually that was a successful

15:49two point conversion, because that was a lateral pass that was batted down, and even though everyone in the stadium, all the coaches, all the players in real time thought that play was over. Well actually, that was a live ball, it turns out Seahawks get the two points, they end up winning the game in overtime. Well replay will, you know, replay eliminates the arguing. AFC divisional round game, Bill's Broncos, Josh Allen's fourth and final turnover, the bomb down the field that was a catch, note was interception, note was a catch, note was interception, ruled on the field and interception, reviewed still an interception. Did that end the argument? No Sean McDermott's calling media from the bus on the way home saying I can't believe they didn't overturn it. And then

16:49Western Michigan Michigan clear as day that clock expired. Everyone the players, the refs in real time, the coaches, and we go to a replay that then shows that the clock was wrong. And it actually had a half second left. It's just bad for sports. And when replay came back to the NFL, it was because Vinnie test of Ernie was too yard short of a touchdown. His helmet crossed the line. The ref thought is helmet was the football and they were like we have to fix those egregious mistakes. And the mission creep of that has gotten to such an outrageous place that yes occasionally, occasionally. There is a user one that worked in my favor, chiefs Ravens week one a couple years ago. Ravens down

17:55seven actually. They were going to go for two. Lamar, do I say a likely back of the end zone touchdown. It's reviewed. Oh my gosh, the tip of his toe was out of bounds. I will take those types of man, the ref missed it by this much error, not being fixed in order to remove the absurdity of some of these other overtones, the stoppages, the fact that it totally in Michigan, Western Michigan didn't matter. It was the last play of the game with the fact that it totally disregards how much fatigue and conditioning and being able to play without long stoppages matter and impact games like across the board. The only sport that seemingly has gotten replay right is tennis because it's

18:56automated and instantaneous and one could argue that's actually also been bad for tennis because it's removed some of the theater of tennis, which was people arguing about line calls. That because it's automated and like that, you don't get the passion of John McEnroe breaking his racket and screaming. Go ahead, what'd you say? Sorry. What about baseball? They added the whole ABS thing. So again, I replay in baseball. It sounded like let me go pre ABS. It sounded like a good idea. Was a guy safe or out on a stolen base? Did you beat the tag or not? And then we found out far more often than them using replay to determine whether or not someone beat the tag. What they were going to do was use replay to determine if someone clearly stole the base, beat the tag

19:58and then post beating the tag for a microsecond when he was sliding past the base, came off the base in a way that was not discernible to the naked eye. He's going to be out because of that. And so and which is again, a perversion of the rule and not what it's there for. ABS, ABS seems, here's the thing about ABS. That is less replay and more what it's called automated balls and strikes. And they are to me pretty clearly ABS like they are using it as a replay system in order to at some point simply have that be the system where there is no human being calling balls and strikes. But in general, I don't, I liked pitch framing. I liked the an umpire setting his own strike zone, but people can say that's terrible in which case that's fine. Just go to the automated

21:02technology from the beginning and then it's not even replay anyway. It's just the system. It's just more bad than good for sports. It makes watching them less fun. It makes it harder to celebrate, but you know, the end of a game victory because you're just a little worried. You got to worry about is there a flag and you got a warrior? They're going to review something and people want more of it. And I feel sick for the Western Michigan kids. All right, we'll get to the NFL. That's my, you know, one of my passion points is that replay across the board and sports is terrible. I know I'm right. And I feel like we're going in the wrong direction on it. If you remember, the Patriots are very stagnant against the Hawks and the Super Bowl, but they got some new weapons, aeromial dobs and age year rounds, but Seattle is only favored by three and a half at home. Do you think the New England did enough to catch up or a Seattle being a little disrespect to your?

28:27So well, for a and a little breaking news from overnight, Christian Gonzalez finally got paid. I mean, I mentioned now a couple times the pod that I did was Simmons yesterday. He was worried that Patriots might end up trading Gonzalez. It seemed like there was really no movement at all on this contract and then it got done. So either the reporting was really bad or there was seismic change in the last 12 18 24 hours because it never made sense why the Christian Gonzalez deal was taking as long as it was. He has the same agent as Devon Wetherspoon. They play the same position. They're in the same draft class. Weather Spoon's deal got done ages ago. You just take Weather Spoon's deal and add a couple percentage points and you have Christian Gonzalez's deal. It looks like that's essentially what happened except maybe Gonzalez got more than a few percentage points on the guarantees. So good for him, good for his agent, good for

29:32the Patriots to lock up one of their homegrown stars. It's the first first round pick of their own that they've extended in a very long time. Drake May will obviously be the second. So that was really important to get that deal done. The other reason Demonsay was specifically important for the Pats and that I was worried about it is typically within FL teams, the general manager in front office negotiate contracts and the coach is separate from that. So when a player is in a contract the coach can still put his arms around and be like, listen man, I'd pay you anything like they don't. That's not my purview. There are certain teams where the coach is the front office and the Patriots are one of those teams. Raples made it very clear that when he criticized the Patriots for not having depth and then people asked and they're like, sir, you criticizing the front office, he said and I quote, we are the front office. So that makes it a little trickier. I thought

30:34for variable to not have the relationship with Gonzalez be a little sideways because he's always like, wait a minute, you said you're in charge. Like, why am I not getting paid? So the fact that you got paid, they got it done, that's all very good for New England. Here is, here are my, let's look at the paths and look at this. We'll do the Siocs first. Okay. The Siocs should just be excellent again. There are in my estimation only three concerns for Seattle and they are all relatively minor, but they're real. Okay. Concern number one, how much are they going to miss Clint Cubiak and the new offensive coordinator? So that like, you know, with the offensive coordinator change every time a team wins a Super Bowl and loses its coordinator or coordinators

31:35as sometimes happens, that's always something you all, you have to be a little concerned about. All right. So that is, that is concern number one. Concern number two is that secondary which was in my opinion, the strength of their team is a little thinner having lost Rikwool and the offseason to Philadelphia and Nicki Minori. They're awesome rookie from last year who had offseason ankle surgery. We still know his status for week one. I think that, you know, in order for them to be a dominant secondary again, they obviously need Nicki Minori. And the third and final concern is, what will the running game look like? Kenneth Walker's now a chief, Zach Sharbinay's on Publist. And so they're really going to be leaning on Gidarean Price, the rookie. Now, I picked Gidarean Price to be offensive rookie of the year. So I think they're going to have a really good running game again, but those are the, the, if we are nitpicking Seattle, those are

32:40the nits we would pick, but I think they're going to win 13 games. I think they're going to be the number one seed. I think they're going to be outstanding again. The Patriots have, I think, a different level of question marks and concerns that are easier to highlight. First one is this, and this is the one I don't know if enough people are focused on. How good is the defense going to be? So as far as past rushers, they're pretty thin. Kale von Cheson's gone, Harold Landry's injured. So they, you know, they have great detackle play, but is the past rush a little thin? And the reason I bring that up is when we talk about the Patriots soft schedule last year,

33:44it is talked about in the context of, usually it's discussed when we're kind of revisiting Drake May's season, right? And it's like, okay, Drake made this unbelievable season, but, you know, what is, where is he in the NFL quarterback hierarchy, even though I'm very high on it? I think maybe a fairer concern about the Patriots schedule last year, because I think Drake May is going to be a stud for years to come. Is was the defense a touch overrated because of the quarterbacks they did or maybe more accurately didn't play? Quarterbacks faced by the past last year, Geno, Tua, Rogers, Bryce, Josh Allen twice, obviously Josh is awesome. New Orleans, were they playing Tyler Shock yet? I'm going to check real quick who started that game for New Orleans because I don't

34:47remember. It was Ratler, Spencer Ratler. Well, I mean, I, but I knew it was, it was either Rookie's Tyler Shock in one of his first stars or his Ratler. They came ward. Whoever Cleveland was trotting out that day, again, it wasn't good. It was Dylan Gabriel at Lanna at the, again, so it's a lot of these teams. If I don't remember that that was Penex Baker who's good? Who is the Jets Jets Justin Fields was probably quarterback then? Burrows good. Jackson Dart, Lamar, whoever the Jets were starting the very end of last season, then whoever Miami was starting the very end of last season. And then in the playoffs, you got Playoff Justin Herbert, one of the worst quarterbacks in league history in the postseason. Playoff CJ Stroud, who has again struggled might struggled mightily last year, not even Bonaix. It was Jared Stitum. And then Darnel,

35:53you know, in the Super Bowl. So two games against Josh, a game against Baker, game against Lamar, game against Burrow. And I'm not trying to, you know, nag or revisit the entirety of the Patriot season last year. I just think when you look at the quarterbacks they faced, could that have slightly inflated their defensive numbers. And this year, some of the quarterbacks you face are also say all of the solid ones. Darnel, the Prince, Josh Allen twice, Caleb, Jordan Love, Jared Goff, Herbert in the regular season, Mahomes, Bonaix at the end of the year, Kyler, those guys, I'm not sure on I know some people are high on them, just a much, much harder slate of quarterbacks. So I'm a little worried about what the defense looks like. Offensively, the weapons are exponentially better. Okay. I know that Stefan Diggs had a great year last year,

37:01AJ Brown to better player. Romeo Dobs is not a number one, but he's a better number two than Pop Douglas or K. Sean Booty were for the Patriots last year. So that is an upgrade. How much better is the offensive line though is a real question that yes, they spent a first round pick on an offensive lineman, but he's not starting tomorrow night. You have Will Campbell, your former, your top five pick from a year ago coming off a very, very difficult playoff run, people want to chalk it up to the knee fine. You have Elijah Veritucker, who is a good player when he's healthy, health has been a concern. And you have a rookie third round pick starting at center. That is a tenuous situation for a quarterback who just got sat, you know, got the shit kicked out of him in the playoff run last year. So I'm a little worried about the rushing or the protection and Travion Henderson's I expected to play in week one. So those are all to me

38:07fair and legitimate Patriot concerns. I think Drake May is excellent. I think Vrable is an excellent coach. And so I think that gives them a high floor, but I don't think they are the favorites in their division after winning 14 games last year and running away with it. And I don't think, uh, and I don't think that they are going to have the level of statistical or overall success we saw last year. I do expect them to be back in the playoffs. And, and I guess we can get to it right here. This game Wednesday night is going to give me a real read on what their upper level ceiling is. So go ahead and you can ask what you got to say. If they come out and struggle

39:07again, would you consider them a contender? If they get beat up like they did in the Super Bowl, that's it's that's going to be a tough case to make that they are a front line contender. They threw three quarters of the Super Bowl last year. They were two yards per play. They were down 19 nothing and it felt worse than that. They were really dominated. And I do worry a bit if they get beat soundly by Seattle, what this opening month is going to look like for them. Is there after Seattle, their home for Pittsburgh, we can give them that win. But then their underdogs in Jacksonville, their underdogs in Buffalo. Like you do, there is a very real possibility of the Patriots starting one in three and kind of having an uphill after

40:11losing three games all of last year up until the Super Bowl. They will have then lost four out of five if you include the Super Bowl. That's tough. I am really interested in if they can show you because the other piece of it is there is some and I'm not, this is more of a worn sharp thing than my thing. But some believe post Super Bowl that Sean McDermott playing a cover six defense kind of exposed some weaknesses Drake has. And then that in the playoff run particularly in the Super Bowl, Mike McDonald really leaned into that. And if they do that again and Drake struggles again, I do wonder if teams copy that a bit. So those are all like legit concerns. But I still think with Drake May with Mike Vrable with four games against the Jets and

41:20the Dolphins, I would be surprised if the Pants don't win 10 games. But I think they are closer to the 10th or 11th best team in football than the 1st or 2nd best team in football. The C-AX to me are one of clearly one of the three best teams in football. And it's why this won't be one of our picks because the games Wednesday. But I do I don't mind laying the hook. Demons, I do like Seattle minus three and a half. I think that this feels like a pretty comfortable Seattle 2717 type of victory. I know you have one more new England question for you to get some of the Seattle stuff. How do you anticipate the relationship between AJ Brown and Drake May? So I think it'll start really well as far as their interpersonal dynamics. I think that'll be fine. I don't expect AJ to have a big first game

42:21though. I think Devon Watherspoon might be the best corner in football. Listen, Pat Sturtan's got an argument. Christian Gonzalez has an argument. I think that Devon Watherspoon would probably be my pick for the best overall corner in football. I don't know that he'll follow AJ around. But I think that could, you know, he could get off if you will to a rocky start. I don't think that Buffalo or Pittsburgh has the personnel to really slow AJ Brown down. And so I think he'll get, you know, he'll bounce back in the weeks that follow Jackson Bill might. It'd be fun to watch Travis Hunter follow around AJ Brown and see what that looks like. Um, but listen, I think I would expect this year for AJ to be as much of a consummate pro as he can be. Is that going to be long term? I don't know. I also though do. So let's just assume he's a good soldier, so to speak.

43:2829 is not young for a wide receiver. I know it doesn't feel old. Last year, Demon say there were two wide receivers in the entire NFL who were 29 or older that had a thousand yards. And neither one of them had 1100. It was step on digs for the Pats and Cortland Sutton. That's it. So it is, um, now Devon T Adams is older. He's so really good. He just didn't have a thousand yards. I think he had crazy amount of touchdowns. Um, let me, you know, what it feels like Devon T at a thousand yards last year. No, he had seven 89. Who get all the yards? He just had 14 touchdowns. He killed, you know what I mean? He was such a unbelievable red zone threat. Um, so I, AJ statistical decline the last few years is at least something to watch as far as, you know, is he still one of the six or seven best receivers in

44:35football or is he one of the 13 or 14 best receivers in football and the impact that has. But I, he, listen, I, he's better than digs and digs. Listen, digs had a really good year for the past last year, but AJ is clearly an upgrade there. So that'll help them. Um, all right. Let's talk a little darnal before we move on. Uh, so you're really high on Seattle. Uh, how much does that is predicated on Darnal recapturing is magic from last year? So a little bit of it, but I wonder if we have to revisit calling it magic. If Darnal. Two years ago, had 4300 yards and 35 touchdowns on 102 rating. And last year at 4000 yards and 25 touchdowns and a 99 rating, both years completed around 67 percent of his passes, both years eight yards per attempt or more. Do we have to open up to the

45:40possibility of? Listen, he had a shit start to his career with the jets where no quarterback has succeeded in decades. Carolina was dysfunctional. Got to San Francisco as, you know, a backup. And the Niners couldn't speak highly enough about how he looked as a backup. And then in Minnesota, cooked in Seattle, cooked. And this is a guy who was the third pick of the draft. This is a guy who's big, strong athletic. This is a guy who has an excellent college player. And yet, listen, he's going to be one of the higher volume turnover guys in the league. But is he just now what his destiny always was, what coward always tried to convince us, a frontline starter? It's certainly possible. And here's the other piece that I am most interested about Darnal this year that it's one of the reasons I'm higher on Seattle than I think most. What was the concern,

46:42Demons, a that we had about Darnal all last year about pumpkin pumpkin moment. Yeah, exactly. And I think somewhere kicking around in his head, he was worried about that too. You saw the way the season ended in Minnesota. And then the way he played in some of the bigger spots for Seattle last year, you saw Pop Flair occasionally. Do we see the best Sam Darnal ever, thanks to the fact that all of that shit's now been removed? Like no one can ever call him a bust again. He's a Super Bowl champion. He's on a not a frontline starting quarterback contract. But he got three years, 105 million a year ago from Seattle. He knows that a year from now, he's going to be in that 50 plus million dollar a year quarterback club. He's at back to back

47:45outstanding statistical seasons. Like, and he's a champion. Is there a level of pressure that has been removed that allows him to play the best football of his career? I'm not. I feel like they're got it. Yeah. I mean, I'm certainly not only am I not ruling it out, it's kind of what I anticipate. And yes, listen, in Minnesota, he had Justin Jefferson, and last year, Jackson Smith and Jigba, guess what? He still does. And now you have a full off season with with Rashid Shaheed, who's one of my favorite kind of gadget players in the league. You have a defense that's going to constantly putting you, be putting you in fortuitous positions. You have a good offensive line. You've an awesome home field advantage. Like does Darnell get to play kind of free and easy? And does that give us the best version of Darnell yet? I certainly, I'm not, I'm not ruling it out

48:45to which I would say, you know what, this isn't like, I don't know if this is, you know, a polymarket segment here, but I'll give him a little something is that, you know, they're new to the show. 56:08Now last night talking to Simmons. He brought up an interesting point that he said he had been told or he had heard that I hadn't even considered. Which was the idea is that the Niners going out a week early and fully adjusting their bodies and everything and then obviously leaving after the game. We'll give the Niners a significant edge for week one but make this game have a far larger negative impact on their season as a whole because their bodies and clocks they will have to reacclimate to the America, you know, to the West Coast time zone and all of that after getting fully acclimated to Australia and that it could linger. The effects could linger for a few weeks

57:13into the season. Meanwhile the Rams their approach puts them in a significant disadvantage on Thursday night but it should make it to where this game has very little impact on the rest of their season. I mean that's an interesting theory. Nobody really knows obviously how this is going to work. The other piece of it that is really interesting to me is the idea that the Rams players what the next like think about what from tonight through Friday night what those Rams players bodies are going to be going through. Okay. So the what is this 16 hour flight flight LA to Melbourne. I know yet 16 hours. So Tuesday night to night 16 hour flight. Okay. Then they're going to have

58:2324 hours and play a football game and then right after the game another 16 hour flight. So in 72 hours you're going to do around 30 hours of flying and sandwiched in the middle of it. You're going to play your first full 60 minute tackle football game in seven months. It's a lot like that is just it's a lot on your body and so I really I don't I like the strategy. I like the Rams a lot there. Like you go in there and you treat it like a little trick. You don't get adjusted. You get back and you don't have to get back adjusted to LA time. Like I like I like that a lot. I certainly think it's a better strategy for their week two game. I don't know if it's a better strategy to win week one game. Yeah. But it is it's also here's the other thing

59:30about the Rams that I want to say. Let's just say they lose this game and certainly it's certainly possible they lose this game. This super team in Los Angeles which again I think should be an excellent team. They then have the Giants on Monday night football which is you know so they get a lot of time from playing Thursday night but then traveling to then Monday. But then at Denver on a short week then at Philly then home for the bills. Like there is if they lose this game the the Rams who are there are little whispers about could they go undefeated. Them starting two and three is a very real possibility. Is Aaron Donald going to play in this game? We don't know. It does look like Puka is going to avoid discipline from the NFL so that's obviously really good. This the Niners you know you just anticipate the Niners history is that

1:00:37you know the injury bug has been bad to them which is to say probably the worst time to play the Niners is early in the year. And which also brings me to the flip side of this game for the Niners. If they win it they then get home games against the dolphins and the Cardinals weeks two and three before they have to deal with Denver and Seattle. So they you know the Niners could get off to a really good start in this game. My my lean in this game. And again we'll talk more about it Thursday is the Rams win but the Niners cover. This is one where I like getting the hook and the three and a half to divisional game. It's weird. The the Niners you're going to get the freshest Christian McCaffer you're going to get all year. Um and so those are you know that's

1:01:44those are it's it's a hard we're not going to hear I guess we'll know by Thursday morning whether or not Donald is playing and what you know it'll give us an idea of what he's going to look like. I would have to imagine Demons a that not just this week but the first month or so of Aaron Donald with the Rams when he does play it's as a situational pass rusher. It's on third downs. It's on big obvious passing downs. I don't think he's going to play a have a full workload early. Um but you're still going to have to spend a lot of your game planning time getting ready for how you're going to deal with Aaron Donald Miles Garrett and that is one of the things I'm most interested to watch is how offensive lines are going to try to deal with Aaron Donald who again the last time we saw him was a few years ago but he was one of the very best players in the sport and Miles Garrett who is coming off the best season of pass rusher's ever had. Um you know

1:02:46I'm glad doesn't have to block uh Miles Garrett this week that is the chiefs and they're off into line. Let's get to that now. Um yeah so your chiefs do not play until Monday and they are facing some issues. They're working they're working left tackle. Jossum is still missing. Not really second year left tackle. Second year left tackle. Jossum is still missing and you guys have Denver you know that defense is pretty crazy. Yeah so how alarmed do you right now? So we talked about this yesterday we had a sensible conversation about it on the TV show and then during the regulation portion of the TV show then in the overtime portion of the TV show um parkans came on and through a Molotov cocktail and the entire thing and so let you know what I don't know Danny watches the pod. Let me so I said that if Josh Simmons is out

1:03:50I don't care about my home's numbers in week one. I want them I said I won't care every throws for 75 yards. The number one progative you know transitions from beat Denver and take control back control of the division. To that becomes the secondary goal to making sure Patrick gets out of this game unscathed and Danny just started doing a whole show about Justin Herbert and no Joe Walt no Rishon Slater and pound in the table and all this nonsense so let me address a couple of those things I'll talk about this game first of all. Primarily I find the act of comparing Patrick my homes to Justin Herbert as offensive as comparing Nikola Yokehits to tray young except at least trays into a conference

1:04:54finals. I don't find them to be comparable players. I don't find their careers to be similar. I don't find their abilities to be similar. I don't find their paths to be similar. I think it is a ludicrous comparison. However I have been baited into engaging in the comparison so I will try to make sure that I can get a chance to do it. We have seen Patrick my homes. Make five super balls with five different starting left tackles. Five different people have been his starting left tackle in his five super balls. It has been Eric Fisher, Mike Rimmers or Lando Brown. The guy they picked up off waivers from the Cardinals. What was his name? I don't even remember that guy's name. It's going to bother me and Joe Tune who's a guard who

1:05:56kicked out to tackle. I've seen five different guys play left tackle for Patrick and his five super balls. We have seen Patrick deal with injured and haphazardly put together offensive lines at various points of his career. There is a specific and different concern for this game because it is Patrick's first game back from blowing out his name. That is why I am throwing. If Simmons is there and more on that in a moment, I think Patrick is going to look really good. I said last week I expect him to come out and look like a top six quarterback immediately in route to looking like the best quarterback in football again over the course of the regular season.

1:06:57But whether or not I even want him to have the opportunity to showcase how recovered he is, if you're going up against Nick Benito with an undrafted rookie free agent as you're standing left tackle, that's a different question entirely. And then as I've now been roped in to the Herbert discussion on this and then I will get to Josh Simmons specifically to be very clear. The Justin Herbert last season performed somewhat admirably in the regular season given how decimated his offensive line was by injuries. He dealt with no reshawns later all year and no joe all most of the year and they got 11 wins and while his numbers weren't great, he played pretty

1:08:01well which is why the absolute disastrous playoff performance was such an indictment. He had dealt with that all year pretty well and then come the playoffs he saw ghosts again. Just like the previous year all year long he had followed Harbaugh's game plan of don't turn the ball over be a game manager trust our defense trust our running game to the tune of only throwing three interceptions all year and then come the playoffs through four interceptions in one game. It's not about whether or not he's been able to overcome adverse circumstances over the course of a regular season. It's why in the three times he's made the playoffs his single worst game of the season all year long was in the playoffs. So that's you know comparing a guy who has the lowest the second lowest

1:09:07pass rating in the history of the NFL in the postseason to a guy who has the highest pass rating in the history of the NFL in the postseason and is behind only Brady and playoff win super all appearances super all MVP's conference championship game appearances is mortifying for whomever would make that comparison. So there's that now to the Josh Simmons question what we seem to know is I even have to back up further. I supported the chief's plan of not heavily investing in offensive line in the draft because they had just spent a first round pick on Josh Simmons. They have a second round pick at left guard. They have the best center and football center. They have tracemith at right guard and then they were going to a competition at right tackle. I didn't want them to spend a top 10 pick on right tackle when you have a first

1:10:10round pick at left tackle and the other guys that I've mentioned. They had obvious must address needs on the defense and that's what they spent their draft capital on. They didn't have a ton of free agency money but they had an obvious must address need of running back. So that's what they spent their salary their free agency money on because they're not going to borrow from future years caps because a Clark Hunt doesn't do that and be there trying to have a long continuous line of contention. They are simply saying we've spent a first and second round pick at receiver in worthy and rice. We just spent a first round pick at left tackle in Josh Simmons. We are going to roll those guys out there and see if we got those picks right. The returns right now on all those picks right now are mixed at best. So it was a risk they took but to be fair it was a risk

1:11:14that I supported that I thought was the right way to go about the off season but it put a lot of eggs in the Josh Simmons basket. So that's the situation going into camp. In camp, latent camp, Josh appears to have injured his back. Now there is a hundred lightly sourced conflicting reports on do the chiefs think he's ready but he doesn't. Are they on the same page or they not? Are the chiefs annoyed with him? I don't know the answered any of them. I do know that I personally am sitting here Tuesday morning not convinced he's missing Monday night but I am also certainly not convinced he's playing Monday night. I think it is the definitionally up in the air and he's going to talking about 90 minutes and because they play on Monday they don't practice till Thursday. So we

1:12:15won't get our first real info until we find out if he's practicing Thursday. If he's practicing Thursday and if he plans to play Monday, I have very very little concern about how the chiefs are going to look and how that game is going to go Monday night. But if he misses and they end up going with and I don't this is one that I don't understand why they wouldn't just put Jalen more at left tackle if he misses. But if they end up leaving Jalen more at right tackle and having underapted rookie free agent Khalil Benson who they like the upside of them but has struggled mightily in the preseason at left tackle protecting my homes is blindside. I am fine with the chiefs running the ball 45 times in that game against Denver. I am fine with the chiefs saying we played you at the

1:13:17end of the year with Chris O'Ladoukin at quarterback and that game was tied with two minutes left. We're running out the same game plan. What I am not okay with is if in Patrick's first game back from injury from major injury he is consistently in jeopardy because they don't have a guy who's ready to play left tackle yet as a starting blindside protector against the Denver defense that to be clear I don't expect to be quite as good as last year's Denver defense. They lost Jonathan Franklin Myers, Jonathan Cooper's on the commissioners exemplest but it still should be really good and they still have Nick Benito who's one of the scariest past rushers in all of football. They also still have the D tackle the Zach Allen I almost call them Zach. Oh it's DJ Jones. I was like why was I going to call them Zach Jones. They still have Zach Allen who's one of the more underrated players in my

1:14:21opinion in the league and you know they're going to they still have Bans Joseph one time in a fellow head coach who might be a future NFL head coach again. So it is I think I think for the season demands I I think Simmons is the third most important player on the team. I think goes Mahomes Chris Jones Josh Simmons for this game I flip flop him in Chris Jones. I think when you're playing the Denver Broncos I think goes Mahomes Josh Simmons Chris Jones so it would be a significant loss for this game we'll know more after Andy talks today but really we'll know more after Thursday's practice on what Simmons status is. 1:19:46last night Krishen Gonzalez I do not think that is how you best utilize Trent McDuffie Trent McDuffie is in my opinion the best the very best slot corner in the NFL I think he is fine on the outside but not a lead at and right now they're having him and Jalen Watson as their outside corner two former chiefs with Quentin Lake you know listen as the nickel that is not what I would do and I think you saw a little bit of last year if you remember the Christmas game against the Cowboys when McDuffie was playing a lot on the outside and just got beaten out listen CD lambs awesome and George Pickens is did CD Liam I don't even remember I think he played in that Cowboys game but I know George God I know George Pickens played in that Thanksgiving game or watching it from LA Demons 8 that was not a fun watch for me yeah um yeah CD like CD had let
