I'll be joined in order by Garicodge, Mark Neill. I said in order Patrick Murphy or Steve Helwack and Kugos Steve Helwack and Patrick Murphy. We'll see which one gets out of Post Game interviews first. But yeah guys I think that was a really fun opener. There's 56 to 3. I would have liked it if it was more 56 to nothing. Only because that was my prediction was 56 nothing that damn long feel goal threw it off for me. But

1:03I mean we learned a lot. Before we get to Garic we'll join us here in about like 10 minutes or so to get the latest one recruiting. Many things we learned. I'm not going to start with anything negative so I'm going to start with positive things. Cari Wilder, how about that? How about that? We knew he was going to play at defensive end as one of those top five guys. And speaking of another thing we learned Zion Grady started. We thought all along it was going to be Boatkinson because that's what they were telling us is going to be the starter. I thought Boatkinson showed a good motor. Quay Rousseau, I don't know what's up with him, but Zion Grady started. That's very notable. But Cari Wilder, how about that? Because rightfully so we've talked about and we will on this show Jay Timbins and obviously Legend Bay and the two receivers Kirk-Century Jr. who thank goodness he got that last touchdown. Man that would have been a rough day for him if not in Brock Boyd. But that fifth guy that we had talked about a lot as far as the true freshman class Cari Wilder. And he's in there

2:04playing D tackle. Man that's a nightmare for a guard on third down. What do you know they're going to pass? You got a guy like Cari Wilder in there who can throw you to the ground as he showed? That was awesome. So we learned Cari Wilder is a dude. Not going to be a dude is a dude. Jay Timbins is as advertised, which I absolutely love that. That was fantastic. All right so I, okay I kind of lied to you guys. Well no I didn't lie. I said I wasn't going to get to the bad stuff right away. We got to call a spade of spade. Like it did correct itself in the second half eventually. But like man that running game early I was non-plus to my friends. I was non-plus about the running game. Philip Daniels needs to get his act together. I mean at one point was that the third series or the third or fourth series I'll have to go back and watch. My notes I've jotted down the third series. They had to put Austin Saravail to write tackle and bring in Gabe Bansickel at right guard. And it was just for one series Philip Daniels went back

3:06out there and then had another misassignment. So they got to get that cleaned up. Like anybody he was saying like well Philip Daniels was good last year. It was just Tegros next to him and that was why that he was struggling. I don't know man. Philip Daniels has to get his butt together. But like the entire offensive line I just didn't like what I saw early on from the running game. They got it together. They got it together. So you know what kind of a perfect first game. I say that kind of a perfect first game. We're like you win 56 to 3. Whenever he's like man Ohio State's favorite by 50 that sounds like a lot. They cover. They look good overall but there's still things to work on. All right let's get to legend Bay. Things to work on. You got for a tour. You knew it though. You knew it. He's probably think I'm going to get one chance. He ended up getting two. I don't care if they kick it nine yards deep in the end zone. Longest not out of the end zone. I'm bringing it back. Didn't surprise me at all. Ryan Day was non-plus about that. And then he did it again which was even worse. At least the first time you got to the 15. The next time you got to the 9.

4:09But then he showed why. Then he showed why. There's all this buzz about legend Bay. Awesome. Really cool. And I know that guys like Dan Rubin have predicted three Heisman trophies for legend Bay. Jeremiah Smith just went one. I don't know. I might take the under of 0.5 but I hope I'm wrong. I hope Dan. I hope Dan Rubin is right and he has three Heismans. But I'll go with under one but you can see in all seriousness Dan didn't actually predict that. You can see why there's so much buzz about this young man. That touchdown reception was awesome. Let's get to another thing we learned. This is not a close battle for the number two quarterback job. Luke Fahey is your QB2. That's something nobody was talking about during the off season at all. I did have a lot of people during the off season asked me, hey Dave do you think there could be like a battle in camp between Tavian St. Clair and Julian for the starting job? And I would say no. Hell no.

5:130% chance. But I never thought a million years that Luke Fahey would push Tavian for the backup job and then win it. And I didn't think Tavian looked bad at all. I didn't think this is all Luke Fahey being a baller. This is not Tavian St. Clair being all. How was he a five star? Like he looked good out there. I mean his first pass, not good. Overall I thought Tavian played well when we were out of practice. The three practices were all three practices that were open. He looked good during the spring. He looked good. This is Luke Fahey being a baller. This is a young man mission V.A. Hook, California. Big time high school football. All right. He tore it up. He was a starter as a sophomore in high school big stats. Junior senior, big stats. 511. That's why he's a three star. Luke Fahey was six foot two. I'm not even saying six five. If he was six two, he would have been a five star in my opinion based on the level of competition he played against

6:13in California and his production. He throws a beautiful ball. He processes it well. He's got a little mobility to him. I love it. Speaking of mobility, we were all probably jumping out of our seats. We saw Julian saying with that touchdown run, it's exactly what we're talking about. Do we want Julian saying to be Lamar Jackson? Well, maybe we do. But that's never going to happen. Do you want to be Josh Allen? Yeah, but that's never going to happen. Do we want him to be able to do that once or twice a game? I'm not even talking about touchdowns. That was great. Pick up a cheap first downer to every game. It didn't even have to be a first down. If it's first down, you're rolling out. You know, you can get five yards instead of throwing it away. You'll get those five yards. Slide, get out of bounds. Second and five is better business than second and ten. So I love seeing that added Julian. So John Walker started. Zion Grady started. The big three for Ohio State wide receivers. Could we be any more entertained? Jeremiah Smith, Devin McEwen,

7:14McEwen As advertised. He's a stud. Brandon, in this look good. Took a little shot to the family jewels on a plumber turn. Looks like he's all right. But yeah, those are some of the things that I learned. We're going to get to Garicod here in just a second. But Cari Wilder, that's a huge story to me. Zion Grady starting. John Walker starting and looking good. James Smith needs to be smarter than to do a horse collar when there's no chance the quarterback's getting out of there. What are you doing? What are you doing? So and Jay Timmins was as advertised. He didn't do anything crazy today, but you can see why they love him. All right. And I love Garicod. I'm good. You know, I'm just in the undertones of Ohio Stadium as the bound to the band is playing the triumphant season opening victory sound. So you know, we're doing the best we can, but happy to be on here with you Dave. When we close, when I get you out of here, I'll get your thoughts on the game itself. 8:16itself pretty much throughout the show. I want to get like Garic Hodges, like the man when it comes to recruiting. He's doing a great job. What do we need to know about recruiting to Dan? It was a big day for running backs. Well, there was a big day for running backs. But let's start with the number one recruit in the country, DJ Jacobs committed to Ohio State. 2027. Edge. He came here. It's the first of his three visits that he's taking to Ohio State this fall. He was accompanied by his younger brother Dawson and he came in accompanied by Larry Johnson and he left the stadium accompanied by Larry Johnson. So make no mistake about it. Ohio State is showing at just how much of a priority he is in their 2027 class. He's the crown jewel of their class and he's probably going to take some visits elsewhere in Tennessee. Georgia, Miami, all come to mind, but vibes are really good right now with the Jacobus family and they loved what they saw today and they went. So I mean, I write like Urban says like, you know, like, when you have a verbal commitment, that just means you're the leader. Like get into that. Any worries that he might look elsewhere?

9:18You think that's as solid as it comes? No, I mean in modern. Yeah. In modern recruiting, you can never say never. Right. Especially because Tennessee and Miami are going to blow up his phone from now until December. And it's not just no schools either. Every school in the country is going to do their due diligence and try to flip DJ because why wouldn't you, right? But you mentioned running backs. 2027 running back Jordan Hall was here. He was giddy when he came out of the Ohio stadium tunnel. And frankly, he should be because he just earned an offer from Ohio State today. Obviously, Ohio State has kind of been in a limbo period of where do they go next after missing out on David Gabriel. George, but maybe they all they have to go is in the backyard of Cincinnati. Because Jordan Hall got the offer. We're going to catch up with them later this weekend. Hopefully. And he may be the guy moving forward from the 2027 running back class, but they might take two as well. That's open to interpretation. I would hope they take two. Don't you think so if you're a buck I think you kind of hope they take two. Well, it's all a matter of, you know, who they like,

10:21how the senior evaluations go. And if they think they want one from the portal or if they want to from the high school or aching. So there's a lot still to be determined. And the plus running backs, I'm sure you're going to get into it today. Running game, you know, is kind of a mixed bag. Had a couple long runs, but also they're struggling to get much of anything in the running game in the first half. So a long way to go before determinations are made in the future of their ungame. What else do we need to before I ask you about your thoughts on the game? What else do we need to know about recruiting that you have in our argument mentioned? What you need to know is locking the buck nuts for the next couple of days. We're going to have reactions from a lot of guys. One guy that I think is really interesting in 2028 wide receiver, a Cornell ball, a really talented, a high old wide receiver, hasn't gotten an offer yet from a high-end state. I think that could happen, you know, over the next year. So we'll just have to see how he develops. But through three games or so, he's already up to 400 plus yards. So he is killing it right now in his junior year already coming off 1,000 yards season as a sophomore and he has multiple

11:22power for office. So you covered Tavian St. Clair when he was being recruited. You covered Luke Feijie when he was being recruited. And you know Luke Feijie tore it up. He was a starter as a sophomore at Mission B.A. It wasn't like he just was good as a senior, which he was. How surprised you to cover Tavian St. Clair as well. How surprised are you that Luke Feijie was able to usurp Tavian St. Clair for QB2 this early? Well, if you asked me that a month and a half ago, I would say I was very surprised. But if you asked me that a couple of weeks ago, I wouldn't say I was overly surprised based on everything we've been hearing from camp reports. But listen, about Luke Feijie, one of the most accurate quarterbacks you're going to see out there. Obviously, the interception not on him. And so I know it's going to be a blemish in the stat sheet, but great throw on that just for the center of junior. You may not for later, but freshmen nerves more less. But I'll say this about Luke. If he was a little bit taller and a little bit bigger,

12:23he would not have been a three star. That was the only thing holding him back as the physicality traits because you saw how composed and how smart he is on the footballs. And Tavian St. Clair, everything that make up the physicality, the arm talent, we'll see if Luke is the backup or if they're still kind of edging out this competition for really who's kind of taking in this and running with it. We won't see it next week of course, but you'll see it again in 10 states. So we might get another answer. Maybe Tavian's the first guy off the bench, maybe Luke's the third guy in. Well, I have to see. But yeah, very surprised if you would have asked me six weeks ago if this was the situation that transpired. Nothing had jumped out to me. Jacobi Jackson, RB 2. And I thought Isaiah West looked good. Obviously, I thought Legend Bay not as the kicker turn. I understood what he did that. I thought Legend Bay looked good as a running back. How about Jacobi Jackson being RB 2? Yeah, Jacobi Jackson looked good, especially on that long run. I heard all the way back in the spring because you know, a lot of people made the CJ Donaldson Cup. And

13:25someone close to the situation said, I'll do respect to CJ. I love that guy. But this guy has far more burst than CJ. And you're going to see that this fall. Obviously, he had some struggles at Florida with injuries. But if you can get him unleashed in this Arthur Smith offense, I think this guy's the limit for him. And honestly, all four running backs that played showed you something at something. Isaiah West got a couple of harder in the arts. Legend Bay, even though he only got a couple of one-in-two yard runs here and there. Boy, is he shifting again? He makes people this. I'd say he can make more people miss out of any of the four running backs. And I say, I had that plate today. So I definitely think that they could slowly insert him more and more into the offense as the year goes on, especially when you're thinking he was playing quarterback in high school. He's senior year. So think about he's still learning the position of running back. So there's a long way to go. But college football fans around the country are learning the lame of coaching. He did grow up playing running back. I do want to make that clear. He was a quarterback in high school and Carlos Lachlan will joke as you know, Garry will say, yeah, he was like, he was

14:29like a kind of a pseudo quarterback in high school. He was a quarterback-ish because he was really just a running back playing quarterback. But for those, I'm being serious, for those who don't know, like legend grew up playing Peeley football, middle school football. He was a running back. And he got to high school. They were like, let's just get the ball in this guy's hands every play. Yeah, absolutely. I mean, every play you turn on his huddle, it's a touchdown. There's like a 10 minute long clip of just legend made touchdowns breaking off like 60, 70 yard runs. It's unbelievable. Yep. All right. I gave him the nickname, the Dean of Ohio State Football Recruiting. Bill's a legend around these parts, around the entire Buckeye Nation. So it says a lot that Garry could stepped in and like kept the train going. And, you know, kind of like urban with with Ryan Day kind of laid the foundation, you know, kind of had the support staff there, you know, the Mark Antonis, you know, the coach mix, you know, and but Garryx just taken that baton and just boom. Good on Garryx because that I mean, replacing Bill Kerlick, we were like, geez, what are we going to do? And then we got Garryx. We're like, my gosh, God send. All right, speaking of God sends, it's bringing my friend Mark Neal. Look at that transition day of God send. My goodness. The czar of Dayton radio. I love it, dude. I love this. All right, your main takeaways when

16:30is game, Mark Neal. Listen to no, Mark Neal, long time host of Dayton Sports scene on ESPN radio in Dayton. If you didn't figure that out. And also, of course, was one of the co-hosts of Buck Dunts Live while we did that show. Mark Neal, your biggest takeaways from Ohio State's 56-3 win over Ball State and the first ever meeting between these two schools. Well, Dave, I always listen to you. And you said it right. To me, this is the perfect game for an opener who didn't play nearly 700 yards of offense. Seven people scored touchdowns. Just an opportunity to get in there, break off some rust. Ryan Day said right at the end in that onfield interview that just getting that touchdown that catch to Chris Henry. You talk about a weight coming off of his shoulders. One catch, what that will do, I think springboard him going forward. This was a perfect situation, especially for a coach because Ryan Day has things to nitpick.

17:31The offensive line as experiences they are, there's going to be some things to look at. The running game was looking sketchy right up until you had a hundred yards with the yards on two carries there. There's a lot to nitpick, but there's a lot to like and a lot of people got in. So this should be an exciting week, especially with Texas. The third game, it's amazing to think how long we probably went between playing Texas back in the day. Now this is the third year in a row. We'll play the long horns. So Ryan Day's got a lot of stuff to talk about this week with the guys, but getting everybody in this week. I think they're going to be, it's going to be few and far between the opportunities to get guys into games this season. If you look at this schedule, Dave, this was the opportunity right here and they did it. So much stuff to talk about. I mean, I thought Luke Fahey looked like calm and comfortable. His interception was not on him. He put that right on the money. I tell you what, man, like none of us saw that come in as far as Luke Fahey pushing Tavian for the,

18:34and I thought it was like a blood which it was and had to put a second team quarterback in today. I thought it would be Tavian first then Luke, but I also thought Mark, like if hopefully this will never happen if Julian was out for multiple weeks, everything that I've been hearing, I thought it would probably be Luke Fahey that would be the guy that would step in. Ryan Day wasn't messing around. QB2 is Luke Fahey and you can see why. And like, I know we've talked about this a lot on the show already and Bucknell's morning five and everything else. This young man was six, two and not five, eleven. He would have been a five star. I don't think Tavian looks bad at all. I think this is more Luke Fahey just being a baller. This is just competition and it's finest. Tavian St. Claire fits the mold size, athletic ability. One of my best friends went to Belfountain and so I know a little bit about Tavian from what he's told me also. And I think with Tavian and you guys have brought this up on the BM5, level of competition in high school compared to Fahey in St. Clair. St. Clair is going to get there.

19:38Maybe Fahey's just a little bit ahead of him despite being younger. But they're both going to get in whether they came in second or third. They both have the same amount of attempts. I mean, there's stat lines for nearly identical. So whether they came in second or third, it may be something that's a minor bullet point, but both had an opportunity to get in there. Fahey, it may be a little bit more natural of a thrower at this juncture right now. So either way, I feel like there's good options behind Julian. Hopefully they don't need to be used too often just because why would you want anything to happen to Julian? But it's nice to see that there's some talent back there behind him. First thing I thought of though, I'll tell you this Dave, when I saw Fahey come in was Tavian could be on transfer watch. That's just how we have to think these days. I mean, I hope you're not on the prediction market. So I think a lot of that's inside our trading. But if we were on the prediction market right now and someone said, yet I'll give you a hundred bucks. Like are you predicting Tavian saying Claire's going to transfer?

20:43I would predict that. I hope I'm wrong. I would love to stay here. Teams have starters at transfer out little young guys that are coming in third and against ball state. The other one was Isaiah West that shocked me. Maybe it shouldn't have that he, I heard so much about him from you guys on the BM5 all off season. The fact that he came in third again, we're putting a lot of stock into the order of events. Maybe it's completely irrelevant, but nevertheless the fact that West was RB3 today based on appearance, said something to me. I'll like it again. We're just trained to think this way. It's like, okay, Tavian and Isaiah might be peaking around the corner, but hopefully not. I think they'll both have plenty of opportunities to get in and they both wanted to be bucked guys clearly. Were you at on the offensive line in Philip Daniels? Didn't look good early. They got it going, but man, 70 was struggling, man. They called Sparky Anderson Captain Hook. Philip Daniels, I don't think it broke in a sweat yet before they were like, come over here and sit next to me,

21:46young man. Next thing I knew I looked up and I was like, van Sickles in. That did not take long at all. This is as experienced in offensive line as there is in the country, it has to be in terms of amount of snaps that these guys have played together, especially those interior three. Daniels has been there for Sarah Bell. There's a lot of experience on that offensive line and they've played together for a long time. But at the same time, you can tell that there's still some kinks to be worked out. The running game is going to get a lot of the blame sometimes, but I think they work together. Clearly, the running game and the blocking, all that works together, the offensive line that got a lot of good players, they're just going to have to kind of feel out who the best group is out there. But they, you know, Philip Daniels missed that block, led to a tackle behind the line. They brought him out, they were putting it back in, he had a missed assignment again. All things to work out again. Week one in a sport that has no preseason,

22:51you have to look at this under that lens as well, but nevertheless. Man, these top three wide receivers, I mean, I know Brandon has only had three catches, but he's tough as nails. He took one of the family jewels on a plumber turn. I'm glad he's okay with dude. I mean, like, we're not surprised at all that JJ Smith, we know he's the best player in college football. It's stuck a little high as I've been posed. Devon McEwen, Mark Neill, as advertised. I love these top three wide receivers and Brock Boyd is going to be like a really solid number four or number five this year, but those top three showed out today. Absolutely. Julian's toy chest is packed. I mean, he's just got him all spread out on the floor. And there's a new throw legend bay into the mix and oh my goodness, the amount of target players he can target out there that can make plays with their feet. I just having seen Ryan Day over the years and Arthur Smith, these NFL guys, they loved it though the football. It was a pretty much a 50-50 split, maybe not in yards, but in attempts,

23:55pass attempts, first rushing attempts. Today, I can see this this offense starting to go, you know what, let's throw the ball a little more. Let's throw the ball a little more. I even text you, I was like, this team could turn into the 91 Oilers. I wait for Curtis Duncan and Ernest, Ernest Givens to go out there. When you have those weapons, Dave, and you have that quarterback, it's tempting to want to throw the football and spread that being around with all those guys that can make plays. I love McEwen. All I could hear about. And Dan Rubin has a way of going into the basement, looking at the film and finding it. He's been talking up McEwen. I had not seen him play a single snap all year. I didn't see much of the spring game. I don't know what happened. I didn't see much of the spring game this year by the first time ever. But I didn't see him. Of course, Dan was talking about archives back at UT San Antonio. He was talking him up. And boy is he good. So you mix him in. Chris Henry finally getting that rust off with that catch. You know,

24:57Boyd's going to be doing more and more. Get Gilfords out there. I remember being heartbroken when I saw Porter and Graham left. It's like, who? They just rock and reload. And boy, they have got a lot of targets. And then again, I'll bring him up again. You throw legend bay into the mix as a Curtis Samuel tight player. Wow. There's a lot of guys. And so I don't want to bury the lead. I can see this team going. You know what? Let's throw a little more. Let's throw a little more. Let's throw a little more as the season goes along. Carrey Wilder. That's a dude speaking of freshmen. Carrey Wilder, number 34. Out there early and often. And I knew he was going to play defensive end. Did not expect him to play that much in the Rushman package at detackle. And man, he looked good. Carrey Wilder looked great. He threw the guy. Well, boom, like a Reggie White type thing. Just like, boom, sit down. Big fella. I mean, Carrey Wilder was a big time recruit. It's not a huge surprise. But he's that freshman. Maybe

26:01we weren't talking about enough during camp. I remember when we were getting punched the nose 20 years ago by the SEC and everybody was saying the difference was the defensive line. Everything else is a little similar. Maybe they have a little more speed on the outside in terms of numbers of speed. But it's the defensive line. That's the difference. And ever since then, Ohio State has really done a great job of reloading at those positions. They keep losing guys and they keep bringing more in. And of course, with the portal being there, it's a little bit easier to fill those hole. But when you can have this many freshmen step in and you're seeing this around the country, look at USC week one, Saturday five. First year players, you can't use the word true freshmen anymore, Dave. I'm going to throw that in my hat and the ring and say, I know. First year players, I know. You're seeing a lot of those guys start to get on the field. And it's not just going to be against ballstay. You try to tell me wilders not going to be on the field against Texas. They've got that you bring in a lot of defensive linemen and you rotate them and you use them. And especially a guy like that, they can put pressure on the quarterback. Can you out of Jackson

27:05was this close to having a sack? I know Dan predicted him to have 12 or 13 sacks this year. He was that close to getting that sack. So there's a lot of depth along that line. They can stay fresh. And when you have fresh and they can come in and contribute and not again, not just to get some back school, you're going to see that going on. I would not doubt if you heard his name called many times against the horns next week down at their DKR stadium. How cool was it to see Jim Tressel get honored like that? I just, I mean, I just was like, I almost tiered up myself, man. I love Tress. That was awesome. Jim Tressel was exactly what this program needed when they hired him. Of course, John Cooper won tons of games and brought in talent. John Cooper was what the program needed when they hired him. They needed to expand their recruiting nationally. He was bringing in guys like Rambo and Diggs and from Southern California. He expanded the recruiting. And then when Tressel came in, it was because we needed to, we needed the belt tight. We needed to focus more on

28:06Ohio. We needed to win Michigan. And Tressel was exactly what this program needed. They needed a guy like Jim Tressel. I hate that people even still talk about Tat Gate and all that BS. He's one of the best guys you'll ever see. What a scandal. Oh my God. Like, it's interesting also because I've known Jim Tressel forever. My uncle was a professor and the head of the philosophy department at Youngstown State and was very, very close friends. And to this day with Jim Tressel, I've known Jim Tressel 40 years. I'm not even kidding. Great guy and great person and a great ambassador for this school and program. Of course, he's the lieutenant governor of the state for trying to love. But what he did for this program, really setting up the urban Meyer era as he did. Yeah, I love seeing that. And there's no guy, no man out there more deserving of all the praise that you can keep on. Yeah, that was awesome. Yeah. And I talked about it earlier, but I know some

29:10people are just jumping in. They're like, Hey, what about Jay Timman's. He looked good. I agree. And I did mention that earlier, but I want to get your take on that unreported story. I mean, so like Denzel Burke started the opener in 2021. And before that, the last true freshman defensive player to start at Opener for Ohio State was Andy Katzenmoyer in 1996. Jay Timman's now joins that crew. And he looks the part. And like like last Tuesday, when we were talking like Earl Little Jr. They brought Ryan Day and then they brought Hensman and then they brought Earl Little Jr., which I thought was cool. Says a lot when they got guys like Hensman and Earl Little Jr. that are fifth year seniors aren't even captains, but are still like big-time leaders. That's why they brought them out. Those are the only two players we got. And I asked Earl Little Jr. about him and he's like, Listen, I've never seen a freshman like this guy before. And like, you know, being a Bengals fan mark, as you know, like I remember Lawrence Timman's like ruining many of Sunday for me. So it's not a huge surprise. I know his son plays a different position, but Jay Timman's that was that was the story of camp because it wasn't like he did it by

Everybody knew he was going to play. Credit to that young man and he looked apart today. The reason the true freshman didn't used to play back in the day was because they just weren't physically ready. They may have been freaky talent, but they weren't physically ready to get in and there and play. And it's just we're looking at a different type of athlete these days. Look around the country. Some of the first year players are going to be getting into games. The kid wafel in at USC. Can't well down in Miami. Timman's Sanchez last year. First year guys come in. They look like they've been in programs for two or three years at the collegiate level. And for Timman to come in, I believe it was you and Jaybook yesterday. He talked about how he said he was coming for somebody's job. Well, he came and took somebody's job. He's been around the game. He's certainly an asset to this team. And when you're putting it out on the field right off the jump and beating out guys, especially in the

31:16transfer portal era when you can get starters all over the place for him to come in and be a contributor right away is pretty remarkable. It's just a lot about the player. All right, my friend. 32:17legend, Bay needs to chill with the kick returns. Although, frankly, I would have been shocked if you didn't return that first one. And Brandon and it should have known better in my opinion. I know he was trying to get him to stay back there. It's like, what do you, if you're legend, Bay, you're making your debut, you think, we're probably going to shut these guys out. He ended up getting to, I'm taking it back unless it's kicked over like through the end zone, right? Brandon initially didn't know that got out there and blocked, but like, what's seriously though, I mean, you could tell, like Ryan Day was pissed. And he made it worse the next time only got out out to the 9. But I love legend, Bay. I love him. I love him. I'll clean that up. Man, he's explosive, electric. That's the first word that comes to mind, isn't it? We always say explosive, electric. Legend Bay is electric. That's the first name, like, word that comes to mind. I mentioned this earlier, but I was, you know, I thought we learned Zion Grady is the starting defensive end opposite in Kinyata Jackson. Everybody throughout the off season is like, it's going to be Boakinson. It's going to be Kwe Russo. It's Zion Grady. We should not be surprised by

33:22that. He was playing a pivotal role as a true freshman late in the season last year. If you watched the Michigan game last year, he was out there more than Boakinson was. It was Kaden Curry, Kinyata Jackson, and Zion Grady was that number three defensive end against Michigan last year, and against Indiana and Miami. So not a huge surprise. But it was like, he flew under the radar. I saw some depth charts that didn't even have him as like on the two deep. So like, okay. The Devon Sanchez looked good. Looked good. Jermaine Matthews looked good. There's a lot of talk that Dom Kelly might be the starter. Jermaine Matthews looks good. And that's depth wise. I love where the corners are at. I was concerned about it a little bit entering spring, not leaving spring. Entering spring, I was a little concerned about the depth. I knew Devon Sanchez and Jermaine Matthews am I okay? I like that. Who are going to be the next three guys? Can you really count on a true freshman like J. Timons? This is entering spring. You don't know. I mean, to say 100 percent,

34:24you can count on a true freshman is bad business typically. Now we knew leaving spring. You can count on J. Timons. Maybe not to this extent. Dom Kelly was another one coming in. I thought he might be like a depth piece this year. And maybe next year he could be like, you know, an integral part of the defense. No, Dom Kelly proved in spring that he could be, you know, he's going to be a big part of this defense this year. Cam Calhouns added some nice depth there. So I'll even say Jordan Thomas, another freshman adding some good depth there. So I really like the depth at corner. But, yeah, I thought Devon Sanchez looked good and like, I'm really liking what I'm seeing at corner. But yeah, J. Timons, that's a huge story. It's an absolutely huge story. All right, just, I mean, got a circle back on this. The one thing that was like really alarming was early on the running game. And I know it got going. But like early on, that's kind of like the best indicator in my opinion. You know, both teams are fresh. You know, I mean, ball states out there like, come on,

35:30I mean, Ohio State's going to play at least 10 defenses better than that this year. Then ball state, at least 10 better than that. And they couldn't really run the ball and Philip Daniels. I don't know what they're going to do about that because I love Austin's Airball at right guard. But if Philip Daniels keeps playing like this, they're going to put Sarah about it right tackle, which they did like the third series of the game as Martin Eels said and put Bansicle in their right guard. They need Philip Daniels to get going. That was disappointing. It was really cool to see them get that 99 yard drive, that first touchdown drive. Gamed in start very well. The offense was complete disarray, three and out. And then the defense does get a stop. But like, they pun it down to the one yard line. You're like, geez, what a great start here. And then, fuck, I was going to 99 yard drive. What a great catch by JJ, by the way. Great throw by Julian. Good pressure by the defensive line. Julian stood in there, took a hit. Very good coverage by the corner. He got it. He was right there with Jeremiah Smith and got a hand on the ball.

36:34But you're dealing with the goat. What did the goat do and caught it with his helmet? Then he just pawned the ball. I can just held it up. I mean, the one that struck the Heisman pose. I think the Heisman pose was a second touchdown, actually. But that first touchdown was ridiculously good. And real time, it didn't even look that spectacular. Then you saw it in slow motion. You're like, oh, damn, the defensive back's hand was on the ball. And JJ just did JJ type things. Yeah, I mean, another thing we learned, Jacobi Jackson, RB2. Another thing nobody was talking about. It was like, who's going to be RB1? Is it going to be not over the last couple of weeks? We all knew Bo Jackson was going to be RB1 last couple of weeks. But starting camp, it was like, who's going to be RB1? Is it going to be Bo's? Is it going to be Isaiah West? Jacobi Jackson is going to be a really solid number three. Or Jacobi Jackson is going to be a really solid number two. And in Isaiah West is going to be a really solid number three. And again, much like Tavy and St. Clair, I don't think this is anything against Isaiah West. I think this is Jacobi Jackson is a good player.

37:37Seventh year senior, something we won't be able to say after this year, unless there's a temporary restraining order or whatever, and temporary injunction to allow ninth year seniors to play. But Ohio say has two seventh year seniors this year. But Jacobi Jackson being the first running back off the bench. And not just that, it wasn't just like he got the first of the backup running back carries. Like he played a lot. It's clear that they think he's the running back two right now. I still think they like Isaiah West a lot. I know they like legend Bay. All four of those guys are going to play. They're going to need them, especially in a position where you're going to get banged up. Cari Wilder can't talk about that enough. That's a huge story. We knew he was going to be that number five the end. But or did we know that? Is he the number four? Is he ahead of QA Rousseau? Is QA Rousseau banged up? Curious about that. That was one that was interesting to me. I mean, I mean, Cari Wilder. I mean, he was fantastic. Even like the interception. That was Cari Wilder. He forced

38:38that interception. Yeah, that Julian Sain on fourth down no less rushing touchdown. I think it was my favorite play of the game. Maybe legend based touchdown. Maybe J.J. touchdown. So many touchdowns to choose from. But seriously, what that means for them going forward if Julie can do that once or twice a game. And again, not necessarily score a touchdown, but defense thinks they have you. Right. They got they got the quarterback bottled up. They got the White receivers covered. They got you. He makes the guy miss makes another guy miss scores a touchdown on fourth down. That's huge. If you can do that once or twice a game pick up a cheap first down get a touchdown. Or again, just get five yards and get out of bounds or slide. You know, five yards is way better than zero yards if it's first down or second down. So that was awesome. Seeing that that was awesome. Seeing that. And again, I mean like Devon McEwen, we shouldn't be burying that at all. Like I know we all knew that

39:42he was good. He was getting a lot of buzz that he looked awesome. Awesome. How huge is that to have like a lead and in and in this looks really good. But here's the thing. Now that allows in us to be the number three, not the number two because McEwen is clearly the number two. And now you got three studs in my opinion. If I'm in a better number three receiver than Brandon and his, that's why I'll consider him as stud as a senior tough as nails. He's going to go out there and block. Blocking was really good. Brock Boyd. Down there blocking. Chris Henry Jr was blocking well. I'm really glad Chris Henry Jr had that touchdown because that was a rough day for him before that. Good for him. Brock Boyd. I still think he's going to end up with more snaps receptions and yards this year than Chris Henry Jr. And then next year I think Chris Henry Jr. is going to just completely explode. He's basically going to take over for JJ next year. That same role. But Brock Boyd is just a natural man. Great catch. I mean he went down and got that 22 yard catch. Went down and got it.

40:47I love Brock Boyd. So those top five receivers, you got to love that. We'll see about Kyle Parker. That's the one guy. We'll find out about Kwe Rousseau. What was up with that? I didn't hear anything that he was banged up coming into the game. But overall, I'll say it was extremely healthy entering this game. You get through a training camp entering the season opener and you have no starters that are hurt. And the only like backup that's hurt is Kyle Parker who's like the sixth wide receiver. That's good. They got some good work done in camp and came out of it mostly on Skade. Again, I mean John Walker was a story. I thought it would be Edrick Houston and Will Smith Jr. starting the game. Maybe James Smith. Maybe John Walker. It was John Walker. Edrick Houston, John Walker. And it wasn't just John Walker started the game. He looked good. And James Smith flashed. But then he did something really stupid with that horse collar when there's no reason to do that. The guy had no chance. There's no reason to do that horse collar. I almost understand if it

41:52was like the first or second year of the rule, the Roy Williams rule is like 15 years old now. What are we doing? You can't just dive at somebody and grab the horse collar. Like they're gonna call that 100% of the time. And James Smith jumped up like he thought he got like the sack. It's like dude, that was the most obvious horse collar ever. Like what are you doing? What are you doing? And I'm sure it's not anything that that's not why he didn't win the starting job. But maybe stuff like that is why he didn't win the starting job. Because I thought James Smith would be a starter over John Walker. If it was one of those two, I thought maybe it might be Will Smith Jr. But if it was between Walker or Smith, I thought it would be Smith. So you wonder if Smith is doing like stupid stuff like that during practice. And they're like, no, we can't. He's a backup. But and Jason Moore was good seeing it. There's nothing we learned. Is Jason Moore is finally going to make an impact this year. Huge impact. We'll see. I hope. But an impact. You know, he didn't really play at all his first three years. Played a little bit last year as a third year sophomore,

42:52but not much. And Jason Moore is going to be like, you know, they have five detacles that they're rotating a lot. And hopefully one of those guys can step up as a stud that I like the depth there at detacle. You know, I see a lack of star power for sure. And you were hoping Edward Houston can be that star. That happens by that. I mean, I mean, I'm not even necessarily saying like first team all American, although that would be great. I'm not like first team all big 10, second team all big 10, which is a lot more difficult now than it used to be with 18 teams. If Edward Houston can be that guy, this defensive tackle room is exactly where I want it. Without that, they just have like a like five good players. That's okay. They can still win the national championship with that because they've got the depth. They would have five good detes. I mean, I want one of those guys to be just an absolute stud and those other four can just be solid. And then you really like that room. So we'll see. I thought Kenyatta Jackson looked good.

43:52He's got to finish though. He can't be a schemar Stewart. Can't be a schemar Stewart where you get close to the quarterback and you never actually get the quarterback down. And Kenyatta is not schemar Stewart. He got six and a half sacks last year. I still think he's going to get double digit this year. But he had a couple chances to get one today and did not. Hopefully he can clean that up a little bit and get those sacks down. Can you just a sec? I'm going to check in with the post game boys and see how close we are here. I mean, just a sec. I'll stick it. It's take a five second time out as I text Pat and Steve and see what's up with these guys. I imagine they're wrapping up relatively soon. What are we about 45 minutes into the show here? Yeah, but I thought I mean, overall, I'm happy with that game. Hope you guys are. I mean, listen, they were favored by 50 and a half people are like, well, that's that's ridiculous. How do they got to cover that? And they cover 56 to three. Yeah, covered by a covered by a good margin. I really covered by three and a half

44:56points. But seriously, yeah, there's some things that they have to get cleaned up. That's what I say. This is almost a perfect game. Like it was fun to see them play. It was fun to see the young guys get out there. They emerge injury free, which is the biggest thing. A lot of young guys got to play. The veterans look good. Overall, not Philip Daniels. Overall, the veterans look good. Julian, look, was crisp as heck. Mrs. First two passes. Then he was just Julian after that. Just bam, just pinpoint a lot of good, a lot of fun, a lot of things to make as excited about the season. Also, some things we got to clean up, you know, some things for a coach like you got to think, okay, we're, you know, we're want to know, but there's a lot of things that you know, a lot of teaching moments, as they might say. So offensive lands got to do a better job run blocking. And again, I know they got the running game going, but that did not look clean at all early. Legend Bay as a kicker, Turner against Texas. If they kick it eight yards deep, take a knee, young man, okay, I didn't care at all against Paul State that he was bringing it out. But

45:58against Texas next week, take a knee. If Brandon in this needs to go and like, take you out, he'll take you out. He's not going to say stop. He'll just just go, he'll, Brandon in this will get like ejected for targeting if you try to bring that out next week. He'll be targeting legend Bay. But so a lot of teaching moments, but I love the way this team looks. I love this coaching staff. And we'll see when the dust settles, right? But like, I think this is the best Ohio State coaching staff I've seen. It's still surreal. You have two former NFL head coaches as coordinators. And I think Arthur Smith was being very vanilla early. Then they started to be tinker. Matt Patricia was extremely vanilla. Those first two drives. Then he started chess gaming it a little bit. Paul State's probably thinking of the first two drives. Well, that's not too bad. And then Patricia starts doing Patricia type type things, but they didn't show their entire hand or even close with Texas next week. So they got to clean up. But yeah, Jermaine Matthews is a guy who was like

47:00asking me about like, what's wrong with Jermaine Matthews? Well, we learned the Jermaine Matthews looks pretty good as a senior. I think he's got a really good year. And it's awesome. The dominant Kelly came in here from Georgia and pushed him. Interesting that how that turned out. Like dominant Kelly wasn't even a guy that Tim Walton. I asked him all about this in spring. Dominant Kelly was not a guy Ohio State recruited at high school. Now, part of that was because he committed very early. And it wasn't just if he didn't go to Georgia, my he go to Ohio State. He was just looking at schools in the South. I don't have to go back and look at it, but I think he was just looking at like Florida, Miami, Georgia, Alabama, things of that nature, schools of that nature. Ohio State wasn't even in the mix and didn't even try to get in the mix. Now, after one year, he reclassified. So really, he should be like a true freshman right now. And didn't really play much at Georgia last year. And then transfers to Ohio State. And I'm thinking, okay, well, he didn't play much at Georgia. Georgia really wanted him when they have like done something like to get him to stay an I L or promise whatever. He's going to be a rotational

48:05piece at best this year. And maybe he he looks like he is a rotational piece, but like he's better than that though. Like I thought he'd be a depth piece this year. And but that's been nice because dominant Kelly coming in here has pushed germane Matthews because we were out there, you know, we were out there early in camp. It looked like dominant Kelly might be that starting outside corner opposite Devon Sanchez. And again, I want to reiterate Devon Sanchez look good today. About that. He jumped that rat that rat almost had an interception. I'm sure his his mom and dad would joke loyal listeners of the show Daniel and D David Joe. That's why he's a defensive back and not a wide receiver. But no, seriously. Chris Henry Jr. I mean, like I love the guy. One thing about Chris Henry Jr. Like we know about his talent and his size, everything. He's a hard worker. And that's huge. Like and having a guy like Jeremiah Smith, kind of as your big brother. Could there be anything better than that for Chris Henry Jr. Seeing the way Jeremiah works. Best player in the

49:08teams, the hardest worker. But all nice that he's aside about Chris Henry Jr. He's got to be stronger with the ball. He's got to have better hands like that. And at one one time, it wasn't two times. It was three times. Thank goodness he got that last one. We need his confidence to to be where it is. And again, Ohio State's going to be fine if Chris and your junior is a solid number five receiver. I think this year, from this team next year, he can't be the number five receiver. A solid number five. Because I do, again, I think Brock Boyd is going to play a little bit more than him this year. Those will be the top two backups. Boyd and Henry. Anything a lot of people think Henry then boyd. I'm going the opposite. The top three. There's just no doubt about who the top three are. So yeah, I mean, like, but he's just got to be stronger. His hands have to be stronger. That's one thing Jeremiah. I mean, my gosh, that touched on to his first touch on the day is prime example. You want to talk about strong hands? I want him strong hands. Plural. I was strong hand.

50:09He pinned it against his helmet. The DB. That was a ball state DB. You had great coverage on that. You must couldn't coach that any better. And J.J. just pins the ball and then just holds it up as he's falling down. How cool was that? I mean, the dude is just, he's amazing. I know I'm not breaking news here to you guys that Jeremiah Smith is good at the football. All right. Boys are coming on soon. Boys are coming. They've made life a little more difficult on them. They have this new rule. No post game video from the field. It's really definitely a necessary thing for Ohio State. Not at all. They have some new communications people this year. They have some, frankly, some stupid new regulations that I'm sure, like eventually either will not get followed or they'll just ignore or they'll revoke because this ridiculous. You're not going

I figured that was one of those things that they said was going to be like a regulation, no live video from after the game like on the field and like they weren't really going to like adhere to it. So good to see you. All right, before we get to your thoughts on the game, post game interviews, anything we need to know, injuries, what do we need to know? No, nothing on injuries. I think probably if we're talking about this game, the most interesting thing at least from the Ryan Day segment was the offensive line. He was asked about if it was a plan to shuffle the offensive line going into the game. He didn't say no. He also didn't say yes. I think he called it a luxury that may not have been the exact word he used, that they can rotate guys on the offensive line. This is one of those where I'm not sure I fully believe what he said in the press conference. I think they saw Phil Daniel struggling and

53:14wanted to get a different look. Obviously, they practiced all off season with various combinations. We saw that firsthand during full camp. So I thought that was sort of a non-answer to the question, which in and of itself may tell you that they are still not set on that. The backup quarterback too was another one. Obviously, Luke Fahey coming in over Tavian St. Clare. Ryan Day had kind of hinted this was more of a competition. I still thought Tavian would get in, just being the older guy in a blowout game like this. Now, if it came down to knock on wood, Julian Saiyan having to miss some time or something, then I think there's a different question potentially there. But he said Ryan that is said, they wanted to play both quarterbacks. They went with Luke first, but he thought he saw good things from both guys. So I don't think this is going to be something we see too much because I don't think there's going to be too many games where Ohio State blows the opponent out. But I do think that it was interesting and it's sort of something to follow throughout

54:19this season. Hopefully, it doesn't matter. And Julian Saiyan plays all the meaningful snaps. And then the final thing was very much that this is on to Texas. Ryan Day said that normally, after a win, it's, hey, celebrate this tonight. We'll regroup tomorrow. He said, no, I gave them 15 minutes to enjoy this. And then it's on to Texas. So that goes to show you what next week means to this team. So many interesting things that we learned, like personal wise, depth chart wise. And again, this is not etched in stone, but Jacobi Jackson, RB2. What do you think? Yeah, certainly looked like it. Look, the running game, and I'm sure you've touched on it in general, wasn't doing much in the first half, right? Now on the flip side of that, Ryan Day, when you and I talk to him one on one or two on one, I guess at big 10 media days, one of the things he brought up was these running backs need to make plays. We need big plays out of this group. You got that. Now you need to get the tough yards. You know, there was the play down here where Bojack, they did a toss to

55:22Bojackson. He gets tripped up. I think after a gain of one, like things like that, I think that will get better, especially as you're going against different teams. Ryan Day did say that at half time, they were looking at a lot of, and even some on the iPads in the first half, some of the movement stuff and the things that, who did they play to ball state? Sorry, I'm already on to Texas. David Letterman's favorite school. Yes, exactly. The things that they were doing up front, they sort of had to figure some things out. He said that's not uncommon with games early in the season, first games made me sort of think back to the Virginia Tech urban Meyer saying he'd never seen a bear front before. But I think they handled it a lot better in this one. So I'm not worried about the run game yet, especially because they did hit some of those big plays. But again, and I think there's a lot of this coming out of week one, and especially given the opponent. It's something that I'm going to keep it in the back of my mind. And look, if they can't run the ball against Texas, that's going to be problematic, I think. I think you and I both did project a depth charts probably multiple times.

56:26I'm not even talking about the offseason, like during camp itself. Yeah, I had Boackinson. I'm kind of ashamed of myself because I love Zion Grady. And every time I did a depth chart prediction, I had Boackinson as a starter in Zion Grady as a backup. I had Will Smith, June as a starter, and John Walker as a backup. That's called wrong and wrong. Zion Grady starts, John Walker starts. Again, all those guys are going to play. But I did find that notable that Zion Grady started and John Walker started and look good. Yes, I agree. But I do think what you said, all those guys are going to play. They rotated a lot of guys. It was a lot of situational stuff. Linebacker, I think you could say that too. So I don't know if it matters who's out there. Obviously Ken Yada is going to be out there. Obviously, Edrick's going to be out there. But I don't know if it matters much beyond that who starts in those positions because I don't know what the snap count is. We'll see. But I imagine they were pretty evenly split with a lot of those guys. And look, I think as long as it's effective, who cares? If you're Boackinson and you're playing

57:28and you're playing well, do you need to be out there on the first snap? No, not necessarily. But I do think it speaks to what Zion Grady did. We know Boackinson had a really good off season. Zion Grady, I think, quietly has continued to build on what was a fairly successful freshman year. All right. One more and we'll get you out of here. I feel like Bill of Daniels struggled. I know we touched on this a little bit. To the point where they had to put Sarah Vellate at right tackle and bring in, they encircled at right guard, then they put Bill of Daniels back in. But man, he struggled big time. Yeah, it was not great. And I didn't really notice it at first. And then I started to see some people say some things on social media and our message boards. I started paying more attention. Yeah, there were some, even after he came back in, after being on the bench, and there was a play. I think it was the time Julian got sacked. It wasn't the end that ended up sacking him, but it forced Julian to step up right into the guy who did get the sack. So that is a concern. I will say when Phil Daniels was on the sideline, he was animated, talking to guys,

58:31walking around, like, because I was looking to make sure he didn't get hurt. And it did not seem like he was frustrated or things like that. So positive. But yeah, you need your right tackle, especially given what you're going up against next week in Texas's defensive line and Colin Simmons and those guys, like, you need that guy to be the best. And so we shall see. I would not be surprised given how today played out if you see Austin, Sarah Valde started right tackle. Obviously, there's a whole week and they'll work on some things. But yeah, I don't think Phil of Daniels covered himself in glory today in a game that he probably should have been pretty comfortable in. Yeah. All right, buddy. I'll get you out of here. Thank you. Yeah, he says I got that and he brought it back to the 28 yard line and they punched it in. Everyone wants to see Julian saying, he got around the ball and Pat was sitting next to me in the press box. He goes, this is where Sains going to run the ball for the touchdown. And that was honestly as the field kind of opened up in the middle of the Red Sea parted in the

1:02:39middle. And he just, he just took it right on in and that's that's something he can do every week as far as I'm concerned. So when it's there, take it. And you know, there wasn't an unique for him to run the ball today in this game. But I think you will see more than I don't, I don't even think Arthur Smith broke a sweat down there. It was on the hill down there on the field, but I don't think Arthur Smith broke a sweat. So yeah, I think the best is yet to come, I think for this team. And I didn't read it as much the Daniel. I mean Daniels may have had his struggles. I didn't look at it that he was benched. I looked at it that it was the third or fourth series and they wanted to get the encycl in the game and go from there. I think it's interesting. Vian Sickles, the first guard off the bench and not Padilla, which is interesting. But you know, otherwise, you know, it, I don't know what else you could say. The run again, the second half they had the two long runs by Bo Jackson, Jacobi Jackson, that kind of even doubt the as bad as it was in the first half. And

So you know, if they can do a fraction of that next week against Texas, get 150 rushing and 125 rushing and 225 passing, that might be enough to do it. So, you know, we'll see. What'd you make of Jacobi Jackson being RB2? It doesn't mean he's going to be RB2 all year, but he looked good. I thought Isaiah West looked good too, but like, I thought Isaiah would be two and Jacobi would be three. Just as you the depth they have running back this year, though, man. It does. And Locke's going to play the guys to give it to him in practice. And Jacobi Jackson is a veteran. He's got good work habits. He knows what it takes to play in competing at 500 yards last season in the SEC. So he knows, he knows what it takes to play at this level. And I don't have a problem with him having the ball in his hands at all. I mean, that that cat, you know, he runs with us in authority. And when he's been healthy in his career, he's done pretty well. And I thought in the spring and also in preseason camp, when we saw him, he was effective. And I

It's great that they have so much depth at almost every position that the bitch is quite a quite a message center. Fahey victimized obviously on the pass off Chris Henry's hands. It gets intercepted. Well, what was your first throw?
