WORLD ULTIMATE CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY 1 | Jakob Ingebrigtsen Beats Cole Hocker, US Sweeps The Hurdles With Masai Russell & Ja’Kobe Tharp + More

0:00All right, welcome to Budapest. I'm Chris Chavez, joined by Kyle Merber and Mac Fleet for CitySmag live from the world ultimate championships. It's almost midnight here in the morning. I can see that I'm my suito. Oh yeah. The run two is three times brighter than the one you've got on your wrist. Why did you get the bright one? Oh well, this one just came out. You're gonna get it before the New York City and Arizona. Anyway, it's shout out to student to all of their support to us. But today, I guess we found out what happens when World Athletics spends $10 million to assemble the best of the best, descending upon Budapest for three days of really jam-packed action. And the result of it was Olympic champions, World Champions, World Record holders, all towing the start line. And we saw an American sweep in the short hurdles.

1:00We had Yaka Mika Britson rising from the dead to claim the ultimate title and Monde de Pantes, claiming the Trophy to the sound of his own music. So great. Why didn't they play Yaka Bsong when he won, you know? They did that in Paris, it was really cool. Yeah. Everyone needs their own song. Okay. You can just ask like, AI, make you feel strong. All right, yeah. Kyle is pro AI music, it turns out. But let's begin with the- I think Monde was too. Let's begin with a vibe check on just sort of like, we talked yesterday about how this feels a little different from the typical World Championship. We're only here for three days versus the typical 10, the stadium, they don't have the upper level of seating. Not as much fan experience around the entire city as well when we're here in 2023. Right. But- Things like top enough that the stadium feels like World Championship.

2:01Yeah, 20,000 people, I think is what they announced for today, which is great. When we arrived at the stadium, there was a long line to try and get in with 30 minutes to go. So the fans are certainly turning out, and it's only day one. And we always kind of say like, they know that Friday session always can be the lighter of the two. So it gets me excited for what we could potentially see on Saturday and Sunday. And when Seb Co and folks have talked about just sort of, this is a product certainly made tailored for TV. I could sense that a little bit within the stadium too because they were holding athletes for a really long time before races. They were rolling video packages. We haven't had a chance to go back and watch things, but we would get a couple texts from some of the other members of the city's team who were still in the states. And they said that the broadcast looked crisp, a little different from what people are accustomed to. The clock is in the middle of the screen because it's made for being able to clip and crop things

3:01super quickly for social media. They were definitely leaning into video packages around the athletes talking about the matchups. So it feels like a world championship, but also feels a little bit elevated. Yeah, I mean, it's funny because... You had a little PTSD. It was walking into the stadium. From what? Yeah, there were definitely some borrowed elements. I would say the thing, you build it up for obviously a year or two, and then you get there and then the race to start, you're like, oh, it's a track meet. Which I love. But it's like, yeah, it's just a good track meet. And the whole element too, I think, it's like, it's not, oh, you're just gonna have one day and suddenly things are different forever. But I think the three day format is just so palatable for fans and we just kind of launched right in. I mean, today we had what, the least finals that we were ever gonna have and it was six finals

4:02or something like that. It was still plenty of finals and that's more than you get on an average of competition and any other world championships or Olympics. But overall, like, great stadium, they just looked clean and crisp. It was fun. It was gold. Yeah, it was, it was chilly. Yeah, I don't know if the fans at home realized, everyone in stadium was legitimately cold. Yeah, so that's one definitely different part from when we were the last time we were here, it was in July, but I think, yeah, I think I need to go find a jacket. Merch was a little lacking, I would say. Yeah, we hit the, there's no mascot, so like there wasn't, there's no toy you can bring back to Leisha or Thomas. I know. I'm thinking I'm gonna buy a baton. Yeah, a baton. A baton. Yeah. Oh, you know what, we need to discuss is what was on, so before, and this was really cool. So Radzi, who's the in-state announcer at Grand Slam.

5:03Yeah, yeah, and he's doing this with Don Harper Nelson. Yeah, and they're doing great and keeping everyone really engaged. Definitely. But beforehand, which was really nice, was they had like a full program of things that they were doing before the meat started. So probably like what, 45 minutes or so, there was entertainment in stadium. It had minor league baseball in between innings field. Like, yeah, they bring out people hold contests and all that kind of stuff. Yeah, I mean, they got to talk to athletes, which is great to be able to hear and a good way to like leverage the downtime that we did have, but man, all right, so the whole thing, when we walked in, they, so a couple years ago with Obliq Seville, I did the thing of timing. Yes, so when people, my greatest contribution to track was in social media, once you retired from Twitter, this was I think like maybe the next, maybe it's your Twitter feed over from 2012. Small, like, if work on Twitter.

6:04Yeah, I was still put that higher, but David Radisha is a very nice running form. Yeah, that was a number two, but no, so the belief thing, you get, explain the trend. So it's basically make people try and stop the timer on the iPhone to their personal best. And it works with sprinters, because it's such a short time, and you get to see them try and visualize them, think of just sort of like what their race pattern was. We, you know, earlier today, we just put out a podcast episode with Jeremy Warner. And so we actually, we did, we stopped recording. We did it with him to see if he could stop it at 43.4. I think it is. But we, so, so yesterday, Bolt was there, and I made an attempt to be like, to do it with him, but we couldn't lock him down or whatever. And then we walked into this adium, and they were doing it on screen with Bolt. Yeah. No credit to you. No credit, you know, thankless job. But no, it was real, it was cool. Throughout the entire program, just, because you just want people to show up early,

7:04and normally you'd have like youth activities or something going on, and it was just, it was a good, and the stadium is perfect for it. Like, the amount of screens and stuff that they have, and they kept going to meet. So it was a very, especially for at first, the amount of different things that they were bringing to it. Like, I think it's only gonna get better and better and cleaner as the days go on, but initial good first impression. The broadcast starts, and then within eight minutes, it's the first event, and we get our first final. It's the mixed four by one, which we saw with the USA relay order was gonna be Ronnie Baker, Tenevia Battle. To Courtney. To Courtney Lindsay, to Kayla White, very strong team. Someone like Kayla White has become very dependable in these relays, but the biggest question mark is how, like, this is only like, one of the first few times

8:05these athletes are actually getting a chance to do that they've had one day of practice. So everyone's kinda holding their breath, like, is this gonna work? Is this gonna work? And luckily, I don't think too many teams had a disaster in this one. No, and, you know, and, just again, like, the four by one has grown up, the mixed stuff has grown on me. It's dangerous. Yeah. Especially starting the guys. Like, it's a dangerous thing that if you miss time, like, athletes can get hurt. They crushed it. Big run by Jamaica, the rivalry, of course, well in alive, but the big difference maker was on third leg into, or on the third hand off, they stretch out the zone. Like, Courtney Lindsay ran 110 meters. And Jamaica handed off first, and they just kept letting them go. And they handed off closer to the end of the exchange. They got it off in time. And so, you know, kind of just taking advantage

9:06of having a, what is it, 9, 7, 9, 8 guy. Yeah. Running a little bit more than the, you know, the female on anchor. And so it was smart. It was a difficult, that's a difficult thing to execute. And especially with one day of practice. And, yeah, US, undefeated at World Ultimate Championships at the start. Yeah, well, we got the chance to talk to Jeremy Warner earlier today, who's one of the relay coaches. He did say it's like, you know, yes, it's obviously going to be really nice for the athletes to win this event. But it's all just accumulating data points for LA, 2028, when this is going to be an event that's featured there. Did you see, so I asked Jeremy, just before we went, the started recording. I was like, did you guys just factor into like, how fast people are running this season? Or did you think of just getting some like relay veterans and who you know and get them turned around? Like someone like Jennifer and Dini and he and Wallace looked at each other. But you know that was a discussion. Yeah, certainly.

10:06And like Jenna's not here competing individually. So the relay is, oh she is. You're fine too. Yeah, yeah. But yeah, no, to your point. Like sometimes you just need, I think, come Olympics. That's when you have those consider, you make those considerations a little bit more serious. Yeah. But yeah, so there's no medals. So the only winners were the United States. And then after that, Jamaica, Great Britain, Canada. But strong showings all around and there. Women's, I jump actually, got a lot of time. A lot of time. Yeah, like in the beginning, it didn't. Yeah. But once the final, once it was neck, down to the final few, all eyes on it, which I guess was like the point. Classic Yarsalma Mahoochik versus Nikola Olusloggers. Should have I seen this one before? Yeah, yeah. And Mahoochik is the only one who clears 199. And we got to see a couple rebuttles by Olusloggers. And she would get the crowd going before every jump.

11:07But I thought the funniest part to hold this whole thing. And I'm pretty sure it probably came across during the broadcast is Yarsalma Mahoochik, which maybe still a little jet lagged. Although, I don't know, she's been in Europe probably those whole entire time. But bundled up on the ground, just knocked out. And taking lots. It was even a lot. Many naps between her jumps. The contrast between how the two of them act in between jumps. Overall, I did enjoy as the new format. I thought it was good across all field events. But we got to knock the pitch clock down. There's a lot of downtime. We don't even, was it five minutes? Yeah. And we were commenting, because there was one Nikola Oluslogger's jump that was like, she was starting to get down to the wire on the time. And it's like, at an NBA game, when the shot clock is down to 10 seconds, you got the fans, or in high school,

12:08when you start to count down and try and throw off the team, like there was no one really doing the out loud count down. I jokingly just among ourselves was like, no, and in another media, I turned around and stared at it. I didn't know if that counted as cheering. We're always causing a ruckus. But yeah, congrats to Mahoussik, who walks away with $100,000 or $2,000. Easily, you got to be the highest payday in high jump history. Hey, well, across all every single event, right? But I'm just trying to think, there's never been, if you're some of these field eventers, when you subtract appearance fees and all that kind of stuff, you're never making close to this. What do they pay in Qatar for that one? You know the one for the day? Do you really like the day? I think you did it. They did it. Exhibition event. They probably paid really well there. They could pay really well there. And also, I guess like, I mean, think about just sort of when there were all those rumors, like Turkey bonuses for like bringing your country like gold medal,

13:09not every country is like that. But no, yeah, I mean, so again, like the point of this was definitely to reward the athletes in some of these events that just never really get this much love. I think high jump, I keep thinking of like, which events are gonna stick? Yeah, in four and two years, in which are we cutting? And I think high jump remains. High jump and pole vault are just always roulette when it comes to track. You either make it or you don't. Like we opened up draft Kings on our phones while we were here. We can't bet. But we could see the odds. And I didn't see, was high jump there? I don't think so. Well, if like high jump and pole vault should be on there where you could pick the winners, but I think like live betting, if they're gonna clear it, if they don't like that, I guess like is where, you could get a dick thing, I'm pretty sure. Yeah, no, it's a problem. We'll love it. Yeah, yeah, I mean, so to your point, like which events are gonna stick and which ones are gonna happen? Hammer here, they added this for Benzhalas,

14:15who's like a Hungarian star. And he would get the crowd really riled up, with every throw. He would have landed that last one. Oh, it would have been the loudest we've seen, we've seen the whole entire day. Yeah. But this one got so much of the juice taken out of it by Ethan Katzberg, just no marks. He was featured pretty heavily in like some of the video packages. Rudy Winkler ends up, you know, all the way down in seventh place. Cause Ethan got what two throws and that's it. So he just came out, had two fouls. Yeah, we've been dealing with some rain here. And like, I think some of them were saying that, you know, the ring was wet. Yeah. And I think if you go to Pauli throws his Twitter account, he was like pretty unhappy, through, you know, as to how some of this was staged and handled. Cause like, then I looked up Merlin Hummel, who like congrats the him he wins with a 81-46 meter throw. But like you look at his resume,

15:17he was a silver medalist at European Champs. But you know, he wasn't, like when you think ultimate champion, you kind of think of like someone whose body of work over the course of season would reflect that. And not necessarily him. Like you would think Katzberg or Rudy Winkler. But yeah, so the Hungarian came up so just shy of making this place go nuts. But we did get some really good juice from the crowd when in one of the 400 meter semi-finals, it was I believe heat two where, uh, Monar. Yeah, Monar, uh, Adlia or Monar, he ended up snagging the last auto qualifier. These heats were vicious in the four hundred where it's only top four go through, no time qualifiers or anything like that. And the first heat, like, we have to kind of figure out just sort of like they're doing this by world ranking presumably, right? Because this one had Kevin and Shippee Chris Bailey, Ry Benjamin, Jareem Richards, like four of the fastest

16:18guys of the whole entire year and all four of them make it through, but they certainly like, they ran as a pack. It got thrown because Nene is ranked number two in the world. And he's not running that well right now. No, he didn't even make it through that. So because of that, you end up getting an absolute, crazy good, uh, first heat. But all the four guys on the outside that you all expected to make it through, you know, Kevin and Shippee, Chris Bailey, Ry Benjamin, Jareem Richards, all make it through winning by a clear half second. Chris Bailey did knit right the line, which, not like that's, you know, that's a lane. Yeah. In the second heat, jacory Patterson just beats at Matt Hudson Smith, who's running pretty aggressively in that, in that he always does. Yeah. Something that I, I think Collins is favorite, obviously. Obviously. Something that I love is the odds to win that they put up.

17:22And I forgot, or the odds to qualify. And the odds ring, I can't remember exactly what it was, but it was below 99%. And it was much too low. They're just making these up. Like where are these coming from? Whoever's doing these stats and graphics may not make it today, too. You'd have to do an eyeball test. Like Marlady, Marlady, probably not a 100% chance of making it. Well, I mean, the most famous one who will get to it in a bit was Yacht of Inga Britson. On the start line, they flashed on the screen. He's predicted to finish 12. I end up, I like this as a concept. I think if you're bringing new fans into the sport, saying someone ran 43.7 in the 400, it's like, what is that? I don't know what that means. Sometimes, like, I think of like baseball loves its stats and like, I know baseball stats. So it means something to me. But if you don't know anything and you watch baseball broadcast, it's like, no, you need the context. That's the third most homers this season. And that's what we're trying to do here.

18:22Like if you're sitting down as a new fan, it's like, oh, wow, okay, this guy's expected to win. And if he doesn't win, that's a big deal. Yeah. But like, if the numbers are just completely made up. And someone are just totally way off. But the usual suspects in this one made it through. In addition to cabinet shipping, you've got three Americans in there. So America will be well represented come the 400 meter final, which is tomorrow. It's one of the first events of the day. Tomorrow opens up with quite a banger. You have the women's 400, men's 400. And then we get into some 800 meter semi-finals. They have 400, no major shockers here. But some of these athletes, especially with an event like the 400, you want that first race to kind of dust off the cobwebs from travel and get used to the track. And we'll see if something special could happen in the 400. Might be a little too chilly for a world record? If it's 10 degrees warmer, it's earlier in the day.

19:24We're starting at 6 PM here instead of 7. Yeah, I mean, I don't know. It is still 20, 30 degrees cold. You probably want as a sprinter. But women's side, and the image. No surprises. No, Marlady Polino, once again, I think, still the heavy favorite in this one. Salweed Nasser, maybe. That was the best she's looked. The best she's looked the season to quesha price. And then Roxana Gomez, that's the four who came out of the first seat. They were all together. And then he, too, I think the big takeaway here is that Leah Butler looks a little tired. I mean, it's what this our first full season as a pro. And it's September. Yeah. She's been going for a bit. It's the middle of September. Yeah. It's a European champ hanging out. Jager, Lika Klava, Leah Butler, and then Martino Wheel. And she was pumped. She was pumped. That was awesome. I mean, she bumped out the Olympic bronze medalist in Natalia Bucu-Eyekja. Yeah.

20:25Any bold predictions besides Marlady, obviously? Well, there's no medals. So it's just about who wins. But if there were medals, there were medals. And I think this might be, because you think Paulina and Nasser have been the podium, the last couple of years, I don't necessarily see that changing. If Nasser is coming around at the right time. So I think those two, and then we'll get Niky Shepriss. I think you run back exactly what you've seen. He won. Just a little bit faster. Yeah, I think that's fair. All right. Then from there, we did get the rounds of the women's 100 meter hurdles. Everyone made it through. Nothing crazy. Men's pole vault. We touched on this before. Mondo wins. But again, a man who Coralus is not making it easy for him. Because now you've got another guy who's just consistently clearing six meters. He's pulled away from the rest of the pack. Yeah, I mean. I totally know.

21:25Coralus is within striking distance. And Mondo still gets the people going in the stadium. Like everyone turn their attention to that side when whenever he was going. And you see the likes of Sam Kendrick's and Chris Nielsen. They're pumping up the crowd as well. So I think they're all buddies. But they still all rally around Mondo. I'm waiting for a lot of that also to get, you know, reciprocated to Coralus. Or I want to split like one team Coralus, one team Mondo. Yeah. Yeah. It's very one sided right now. It's very one sided right now. The thing that, so this is not against Mondo. This is against anyone who's dominant. Is I have a tendency to root against. Like if you've won three consecutive gold medals, I generally root against you. Across the board. If you're doing it in a dominant fashion.

22:26And not even, I don't know. I root against, I just want like change. I think it's good to have upsets. And I think it's exciting. And so in general, like in this competition, again, it's nothing against Mondo. He's awesome. Like I was rooting for a crowd. Because it'd be a fun changing of a going for a moment. And then at the end, when Mondo is like pumping up the crowd, going for world records, like just, hi, his music's playing. I'm like, damn, this guy's awesome. Yeah. Can't believe I was rooting against this guy five minutes ago. He's really cool. I was just also thinking about the TV the whole time. So like the TV window was closing. It was like 10-0-1. Yeah. And this was all on Pika. But for some of these, never tried anything. It's like, come on, just. Got your lower pitch clock. Oh, yeah, you're just going to speed it up a little bit more. Not only five minutes, go on. Yeah, but no big surprise. I think Mondo is looking forward to this break.

23:26Yeah. Because he's been dealing with that injury since the London Diamond League or even before that. And he knew he had to show up to this meet because of how much World Athletics has leaned on his stardom for this thing. And you can't wipe all of the ultimate ambassadors. No one would want to be an ambassador in the future. Yeah, yeah. Because you're totally a tar. And so on that note, just sort of like, Tara is not here to compete. Yeah. She might still make the trip out here. But so instead, we have Lurissa Yapa. Iapenko. Iapenko, yeah. Came out 6-9-0. A grandmold passed away this morning. That's why she was really getting emotional. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, she came out first, jumped in one. That was it. Like, it set the bar. She didn't have to do anything else. They mean sand, pink. Yeah.

24:27What is there? Innovation. I think it's just, yeah. Well, what do they use? Is that authentic pink sand or is that spray painted pink sand? Well, you've got kids. So you know, like, what's that special kind of like play-doh kind of sand? There's like the magnet sand. Yeah, yeah. Like, I'm wondering if it's like closer to the actual... The only thing I hate more than magnet sand is play-doh. OK. Play-doh, it dries up and it's everywhere. And... Yeah, you can't ever play with it again. It's a one-and-a-one type toy. Yeah. So you think that's how play-doh is stayed in business? Because like, kids are not good at doing on purpose. They could have a lid that just attaches permanently. Yeah. Kind of like soft drinks in Europe. Yeah. Instead, they want the kids to lose the cat. Yeah. That's their ideal situation. Kids are not good about putting caps back on play-doh or markers. Hmm. All right. Yeah.

25:27That's our little rant on it. A lot of people in the comments are going to be like, yeah, no, he's right. LAUGHTER All right, women's long jump. We got that wrapped up. Then we had... She saved it. Let's do the hurdles really quick and then we'll spend more time on the 5K. Or women's 800 meter semi-finals went pretty according to plan. Yeah. Runs 157, takes Adi Wiley's Sarah Billings and Elwiste Koyro with her to the final. Not a good day for Rochine Willis. She ends up in seventh, doesn't advance. Heat 2, Audrey Ware of Femke Bull, 1159s. Like they just did their thing. Femke went out really solid, first 200, took control. And it was kind of like a throwback to the last time Femke was leading Audrey kind of past there. And Audrey, I think, tries to pass.

26:27And Femke is kind of not happy about it and then spiting her off and then cuts in again, like very close to Femke. It's an interesting, if Femke won the push route to lean 2 and just hold her off, there's a concept for the final. Make her run and lean 2 the whole time. I think Femke is wise enough to be more about just protecting her space. Yeah, she eventually, and it's a prelim, so she did eventually let her in. And they both coasted and Audrey ended up running. Like, 1.9.05? Yeah. Like it wasn't that fast or anything. But yeah, it's a thing. Audrey passes very close. And again, like we've mentioned this before, Audrey has a history of when she was younger, that stride goes down. Yeah, yeah, it's a dangerous move. And Femke's stride is quite long too. We're in the mix ones. The first time you and I have seen Femke in person in a while, we always just forget how tall she is, so tall.

27:29Yeah. I think it's just the new balance bikes. Yeah, that's true. But no, I mean, we got exactly what we wanted. We wanted those three through. Hark-Ricken for Raven Rodgers right there. And like, she was coming on well at the end of the season. Yeah. I'm just kind of ran out of time. But I think this is a really good momentum to take into next year. She's doing F-Los. I'm hoping she's got another one, because she is figuring things out right now. Yeah. You know what's interesting that I'm looking at this? After Lino Dero with Drew? No Kenyans. No Kenyan women, the women's 800. I think this is sort of like where, you know, he had Mary Mora, Lino Dero. The Kenyan depth sometimes in the 800 gets it like, for a while, I think we flagged it. It's like, oh, like, their stars are really good right now, but there really isn't too many people coming up behind them. Yeah. There's going to, there'll be some more. There's a re-burning process. Yeah. There'll be someone. But yeah, also just as we're like flipping through results,

There was the one where someone fell and is the feature within it. There's also the one of all the Americans in the 5K

29:34is awesome. Just five guys in frame on top of each other. Yeah. That's a good one. You have it pulled up Mac. Yeah. So I like those features. Yeah. Do they have interviews or anything like that? They have flash quotes or something? I haven't played around in enough. But they've got a shop. You can buy stuff. I wonder what the conversion is. Yeah. But no, it's cool. I think it's for to have launched right beforehand too. I mean, that was planned. Yeah, but I'm saying it's not really buggy. It's working pretty well. Who does to them? It's a good companion to have. All right. Women's 100-meter hurdles, Messiah Russell Shocker, comes away with the victory. Sidious Max number one ranked athlete in our power rankings. And she comes away 12-22.

30:36Just not official yet, but I'm a feeling. You have a feeling she's been a really good champion. I'm a feeling on Wednesday. She's gonna get the number one spot. Yeah. What would have to happen for the knockout? Alessand de Santos runs 44. Maybe Rive wins both. Yeah. He doesn't have a world record. And he's been beaten much this season, which Messiah has not. That's true. Yeah, so I think Messiah is feeling pretty good, I think, right now. What if we made a co-verse? I think she'd be upset about that. It's a whole world athletics. Yeah. We just released, oh, we're actually going to do three more sets of rankings as well. And it's going to be a race walker. Messiah, sit and kicking in the hurdles. She lined up. It was with Devon, what I said in the preview, I want him next to each other. Devon has, as she always does, such a good start. Right. It kind of makes you think, like, is Messiah not having a good start? But it's no, you're just next to the best starter of all time,

31:36which she's used to for practice. I mean, she's just 60 meter world indoor champion. And it's sort of like, that's great. World record holder. World record holder. But it's like putting together the final 20 meters of the race is where just sort of, like, you could see it in the first round that she did a good job. With it. And then in the second round, just like tied out a bit. The big moment was with three hurdles left. And they had a good graphic of the miles per hour that they were running. I'm guessing it was kilometers an hour maybe because it was 32. So basically, Messiah and Devon were both running 32 kilometers an hour through, like, hurdles 4, 5, 6, and then all of a sudden, Devon just 31, 30. And it looks like Messiah kicked, which he just maintained, which, you know, that four-inch hurdle strength coming back years ago. So 32 kilometers per hour is 19.8 miles per hour. That add up. I think so. Sounds right. I think both 27, 28 or something.

32:40But he, Tyson has the fastest ever recorded top speed. Maybe Marcel Jacobs in the wind tunnel. Like the practice. Yeah, the Italian. I think it was Justin Gaatlin in China or was it Japan? Yeah, when he did Japanese TV show, yeah. Yeah. But yeah, Messiah, I mean, what's to say is just perfect season. 34:44Uh, that was the year that, uh, there was that false start that caused her. Oh, yeah. The big prize money. So I wouldn't, if she harbors any feelings for that, wouldn't blame her. Um, all right. Men's 100 meter hurdles. This one, like, now, go to the FAT photo on this. Yes. Pull up the world athletics app. Go to the photo finish of this one because what you'll see is that Cordell Tinge has the number one, uh, in his, like, pointing in his hand. And if you watch the race, he celebrated across the finish line through his arms up in exultation and then he, I mean, he was fully celebrating. It wasn't even just like hands up like he was on his victory lap. Because 1295 would have been like a season's best for him. Yeah. Uh, it's a, you know, coming around at the right time. And then all of a sudden, the scoreboard flashes, Jacobi, tharp 1294. Jacobi was like confused, I think when Cordell was celebrating, because he was so far on the outside, so Cordell just didn't see him.

35:46He, he beat everyone else near him. And I think he thought that was enough. But yeah, like five lanes away, Jacobi was like watching him celebrate confused. And then it pops up on screen. And in that moment, Cordell Tinge probably wanted to climb into Yars Lava. Being back and just cultured himself. That's what I'm about to bet. And it'll wake up from this terrible dream. Yeah. Cause we put up the photo finish up on our Instagram as well. Uh, that lean is the difference between $150,000 and $75,000. You also noted it's like, man, Jacobi, tharp super lucky to have a long neck. Cause like that measure, they measured it pretty high. Well, Cordell didn't lean at all. Didn't lean at all. No, even, I mean, third place a little further back. They may walk away to 40,000 hours, but like that, all that money moves right there. When, um, when you think of in history, people getting nipped at the line, which one? Cause where does this rank?

36:47And where do you? What do you think of? I think embaging women's 10k, uh, Emily and Felden Molly, huh? That's what I, that was the year. Yeah. Um, um, Oh, you feel that the Illinois State high school state meet in 2005. That's what you're thinking. Yeah. Then there's also another one. 37:49Mac has been saying for years that we need a mic, uh, video of the referee explaining to the crowd where he's going. Yeah. What happened? Um, they did. Yeah, this wasn't implemented post Devon Allen. It was a shock, but we're here. We did it. But then what I liked after that was that it just became a dual meet between the US and Japan. Yeah. We had five athletes and they had two. Yeah, we did lose from all bread to a DQ, but, um, yeah, I mean, so do we go one, two, three, four, that help. Yes. Yeah. Um, so all right. Wait, so what, what, how does this work when it comes to the prize money, no prize money? If you got the key to the final, I think you would get you didn't. You didn't get split. Yeah. It's a good question. They've been just spread it out. Didn't know what spread it out. And once you got it, they just take out the picture. Yeah. I think they should give it to Cordell just to make a feel a little bit better. Yeah. Yeah. It's like Cordell, we saw what happened.

The guy is sleeping right now. Because there's no. So Cordell, um, Jacobi Thorpe. Now Bradley Franklin, um, Trey Cunningham has won Grand Holloway, um, Daniel Roberts. And uh, who else was part of our story? So there's six. Yeah, yeah. Grant Trey, Daniel Cordell, Jacobi Bradley.

39:52Mm-hmm. And that's just outdoor 110. That's so cool. Yeah. That's a lot of different people. This is one of those events where you're just sort of like, we've always thought like, well, the limit of having three is so, you know, handicapping, it's handicapping us and uh, or it's hand-cuffing us. This is what would have happened at a world championship. Yeah. If you let us loose, we will destroy. Let us out. Yeah. Um, I always think back to like the 2016 women's 100 rehearsals. Yeah. We're going to sweep with, um, Brianna Rollins, Christy Castlin and Nia Ali. And I think that whoever was 456 at the US trials probably could have pulled off the same thing. Exactly. And so, uh, we just have, just riches in hurdle talent in this country. Well, who was it that was for? And then was that Kenny? Kenny was for it. And then broke the world record that season, I believe so, yeah.

40:52Going back 10 years in my mind. Yeah. Right? Mm-hmm. So, imagine that. Yeah. I think, uh, when Wallace was saying like sometimes we leave our best people at home, that's one of those events. One of those events. Legacy picture wise. What else does Missyra also need to do? Uh, oh, you, oh, it's just like this. Yeah. She got to win 2028 and then she is the greatest of all time to go. Mm-hmm. Because now she's clicking off, uh, you know, 12 twos, like, um, like, um, um, um, um, um, uh, you know, 12 twos, like, like, it's no one. Someone had a good email, um, to the lap count. Was it this week or last week? They wrote in saying that we should, when ranking people all time, we should, we should do like a list of who are the most dominant athletes. Right. So, here's saying like the Jim Ryan example of like, he was so much better than the other Milders in 1966. Was it? Yeah. Um, and so it's like in history, like, who is just dominating the competition?

41:54So it's not just like, oh, they won the most medals. They, um, they've run the fastest. It's like, no, who's like far above the rest? Yeah. I'm the email pulled up in front of me. It's a little long, so I'll just summarize. Like, I'd like to offer suggestion for a city of smag piece that I believe would break some new ground. So, I think it's a different, to Jim Ryan and how far ahead of this competition he was in 1966 is absolutely spot on. This is someone who truly understands our sport. Should be looking at questions of who's the greatest ever. How about doing an analysis of who at their peak was the farthest of head of his or her competitors. I'm not saying this would be perfect in all cases, simply put, nothing is, but it would be a way of at least partially leveling the playing field with respect to things like modern tracks, super shoes, buy, carve. It would also allow, it will also be a way to eliminate or at least greatly reduce the age bias in either direction too. So comparing... I think he was upset I didn't include Wilk Chamberlain. I think this is what that stems from because I said it was like LeBron or MJ and he was upset because like Wilts stats were so much better than everyone else.

42:57So I think that's what prompted it. But anyway, there's a good thought, exercise. Yeah, maybe it's an oxygen process. Oxygen, which is coming up. Well, we move into Marathon. Marathon season pretty soon. Yeah. All right, let's get into the event that we were talking about this race at like 10 o'clock in the morning. We've been thinking about this one all day. Men's 5K and last night we were having a couple beers and we were thinking like this probably is going to end up going slow. We might see Nico hit the front at some point and try and make it honest. The East Africans, they're only coming around just like now at this point in the season. So they might not have the guts to go up and make this thing fast. We were totally wrong because the East Africans did push from the front. They did what they should have done. They alternated from time to time. You had Jacob prop up there. You had Benium Mahari, Agide, Nakatu, Rui Tehmana.

44:01He was the one who established because they were jogging 200 meters in and he was like, now we are in 60-30s. They all took turns. Adisu Yuhunu even took a turn and then had an unfortunate fall in the middle of the race that caused the Aka Binga Britson to remember that he was a steeple. He also remember that he like leaped over him, a very impressive clearance. But the fact that no one else went down is crazy. Yes. It was like a hay-bound on a cross-country course. And then the Hungarian crowd went wild for him until he DNFed. Which it's like, come on, dude, the crowd wanted to see it. And you still get $2000 or prize money to finish last if you just jog it in. And then Benium went down at the line as well. You know those two had short cooldowns. Yeah. It was a painful... It was also the end of their season. Do you cool down? Do I have a different half-ose?

45:02No, they're not invited at all. But it all, it kind of backfired and then when you now you look at the end of the results and all these guys and they're toward the back, the Americans held strong. Let's talk about... We're going to talk, of course, about the champion, Yakaab and how he executed this thing. But for a while, we were watching this thing and we kept thinking, okay, this is a race that is being served up to the likes of Parker Wolf, Cole Hocker, Yaka Bingo Britson. And the case splits were fairly consistent. There was nothing crazy, they're... Nothing crazy. I mean, they came around 13-minute pace. 3K and what was it? 750. 9. 9. And then they hit the brakes for... Not the brake. There was like a period in between 2K and 4K where they weren't doing anything crazy but they didn't like let it get... But then someone would have got the car. It was never that comically slow. Ty Robinson took a turn up in the front as well. But they were all together, the entire time on top of each other. No one ever took the lead.

46:03No American took the lead at any point. I was watching Cole. Parker was in a great spot. Parker learned what... Me, was it... Siric Celessia? That he just... He never got out in that 3K and it ultimately... Or I'm blacking out. He learned from that mistake and he put himself in that position and he was fighting hard to hold it because at one time, Benium came up and was really trying to wiggle his way in and he fought him for a very long time. Cole loved the rail but I did appreciate that eventually he started to move out. There's like... You gotta go back and watch it. Graham Blanks let Yachtgub and Cole out. They were boxed in and I think Parker... If he would have held that a little bit longer, if he would have just held the box and he went out for himself.

47:06Because he had a swing wide and I mean he finished seventh but on top of everyone else. So he was going forward and he swung wide but if he would have just... 25 more meters kept him boxed in. I think Parker Wolf wins. They were tight and he moved and they found the hole and they went. But Yachtgub did the thing where he dropped the arm to squeeze through. He had a strong close. I mean... That was incredible. 12-6. Half second faster than Cole. Yeah, I think. And Cole just left himself too much work to do. Yeah. It is... I mean, Cole didn't have any five cases this year. Yeah. So he's coming in and trying to just like gauge where he's at. Yeah. He seems really fit. He just doesn't have that... Bizarro like insane. Like he has this ability that we've seen at times and at the Trials and at the Olympics and then past championships

48:10where he has like this ability to be like a video game like he goes X Games mode. And it seems like he's really fit but he can't go X Games mode right now. Maybe he's the same in that for the 1500. I'm sure he tried to go X Games. All right. We got to give our flowers to Yachtgub and how seven months ago we probably wouldn't even thought he was going to be here. Seven months. Like a few months ago. Up until a year root. Up until the last thousand of Europe of the Euro Championships. I didn't think we'd be anywhere close to this position and he got me. Yeah. I mean, he did crush some... There's some great shots of just sort of that final home stretch where it's like the American wall just got broken by Yachtgub. And, you know, he's got the confidence and the... He's got... He's getting this confidence and swagger back which makes him a little bit more... More dangerous. Yeah. But like... I think it's very funny that Josh said in that one interview that nobody cares about 5K.

49:13Like that's a funny joke. Like it's a great... And even Yachtgub admitted today that after the race. He doesn't like it. He doesn't particularly love the 5K either. He is a 5K guy though. He just won 31500 runner. But I gotta say, nobody cares about the 5K. He can debate all he wants. Compared to 5500 people obviously care about 5500 more but boy do people care about Yachtgub. They do. They do. They do. It's good to have a back. Yes. And then on top of that, like he had the odds stacked against them. Like were that athletic student from 12th the place in this race? They had no faith in this guy and he had to go and prove the haters wrong. Yeah. Is this a man who feeds off of that kind of doubt that you see... He got it. Yeah. I mean... And now it's like one of those things in retrospect. You go like obviously we watch the race. But it's like, oh yeah, of course he would win.

50:13Yeah. Although the only person on our panel picked him to win was breed. Did I not officially pick him? I think I, depending who I was talking to at different points last week. I was like, there's people out. People exist who think I got it. Yeah. That, that correct. So yeah, I mean, I hope he now comes back in the 1500. He says he's going to sleep on it. See how the next 12 hours come. Henry doesn't want him to. Henry told him that he has a plane ticket that leaves tomorrow and Henry's like, I hope he gets on that flight. Is Henry going to wait at the airport to see? Henry's not even going to stay for the 15. It's... It feels like a rom-com. Yeah. Really? It's like, we'll see if he shows. It's like it's Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Yeah. Yeah. And then Ben Affleck's like really happy that Matt Damon didn't show up and that's going to be Henry at the track. Yeah. Sunday, the 1500.

51:13He's going to be starting, he's like, all right, yeah, he went home. That's if he wouldn't know. It's like, he's not going to see you leave in the morning from the Airbnb or whatever they're saying. Yeah, no. So, I mean, it's always more interesting with Yaka. I hope he runs the 1500. And we'll just have to wait and see, I guess, over the next... We'll get our answer in 12 hours. Why in 12 hours? He said he's going to sleep on it and we can... We're at the airport waiting. He's working on it. There's autograph. No autographed hunters will know before anyone else. Oh, certainly. Yeah. Because they'll see him either leaving the hotel as bags or not. Like, I think they should have like five rounds of the 1500 of the Olympics. It's kind of like when we all kind of hit on a refuge and then they did the 1500 or 1500. I was like, hell yeah, more 1500. But yeah, I think it's... There's an element of the semi where it's like, yeah, you get to see what people look like. Now then you wouldn't get people doubling in the 1500 and 5K. Like, we're hopefully going to see Colin Yacke of Dave. But yeah, anyway.

He kind of just touched on the fact that it's like, this isn't an event that is being run by like the Federation. I mean, we're sitting next to the USATF Federation. Right. So like, the athletes are just operating on their own when they're walking through like the mix zone and there's usually in the past like a media liaison and stuff like that. So none of that this time around. And like...

54:15Funny... The funny story about the American flag. For folks little tidbit, all the American athletes are sharing the same American flag. They went to the embassy. They had the State Department here. That flag came to be... The government involved. Yeah. They can't just buy a 99 cents store. Yeah. So they went through great lengths to get that flag and tomorrow if some of these... Well, it's only if they win because there's no medalist. So like, I want to know how much time Masai got with the flag before she had the hand it over to Jacoby. More time than Cordell got. For you had the hand over to Jacoby. Yeah.
