In a bizarre twist following one of the biggest wins of the season, the Texas Tech Men’s Basketball team bus was vandalized in Tucson, Arizona, late Saturday night, February 14, 2026. After the No. 13 Red Raiders stunned the No. 1 Arizona Wildcats in a 78–75 overtime thriller, the celebration was briefly dampened by a literal "slash" of reality.

The Incident

The vandalism wasn't just reported; it was broadcast. A video circulated on social media—appearing to originate from a first-person perspective on Snapchat—showing an individual jamming a knife into the tire of a charter bus clearly branded with the Texas Tech logo.

The "Hiss" of Defeat: In the video, air is audibly heard escaping the tire as the culprit wiggles the blade into the rubber.

Targeted Act: The timing left little doubt about the motive; the act occurred just hours after Texas Tech erased a second-half deficit to hand Arizona a dejecting home loss and knock them out of the top spot in the Big 12.

The Response

Texas Tech Athletics confirmed the "puncture" on Sunday, February 15.

Travel Safety: The school emphasized that maintenance personnel inspected and repaired the vehicle before any players boarded.

Minimal Delay: While the tire had to be replaced the following morning, the team's travel plans remained largely unaffected. The Red Raiders stayed in Arizona to prepare for their Tuesday night matchup against Arizona State.

A Fool’s Errand: Commentators and fans quickly pointed out the sheer danger of the act. High-pressure commercial bus tires can be lethal if they "blow out" during a puncture, leading many to note that the perpetrator was lucky to walk away with their hands intact.
