How you stop focusing on the negative, to focus on the positive, is by first centering your attention. There's two screens that we have of reality. The inner screen is my thoughts and my feelings. The outer screen is what I'm seeing outside of me. And when I watch both of those simultaneously, I have centered my attention. Now you have a choice of where you want to place your attention. What happens to most people is we've trained ourselves unconsciously to keep focusing on the negatives because our ego feels a sense of comfort. So the last time I used centering my attention was when I had to let go of a sales rep. And I didn't want to do that. I was feeling anxious. I was feeling nervous. The way I thought about it was this person was in the company and they were taking calls, but they weren't making any money. They get paid by commission. So I told him like, Hey, dude, you're not making any money and the company we want to grow. It's not a win-win for either one of us. How can I help you find a better role so we can support your future endeavors? Because the goal this year for us is to get to three million revenue to an end profit. I'm like, what is going to serve getting to that goal? But the only way I could have thought about that was if I had sent him myself first.
