Sheila Smith

Sheila Smith is an American diplomat and academic. She served as the U.S. Ambassador to Japan from 2017 to 2020. Smith has a Ph.D. in Japanese studies from Harvard University and has written extensively on Japanese politics and culture. She has also taught at several universities, including Harvard and Columbia. Smith is a fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and has served on various boards and committees.
