Thomas Couture

French painter and art teacher

Thomas Couture was a French painter and art teacher who was active in the mid-19th century. Born in 1815 in Paris, France, Couture studied art at the Académie Suisse and later at the École des Beaux-Arts. He was a prominent figure in the French art world and was known for his portraits and landscapes. Couture was also a teacher and mentor to many young artists, including Édouard Manet.
