1:03labor of love being on the radio with you this morning. How about that? And I got my man Debes running the show today. What's up Debes? How are you brother? I'm doing great. Good morning. Why are we doing a show today? You might wonder it's Labor Day. Why aren't you guys off because it's it's the kickoff of the football season. We've been doing this. I mean I guess I was a part of the Border Patrol slash New Day for going on 19 years now and I think that all those 19 years we've done a show on Labor Day because this is the week that football really kicks off. It's like this past weekend was all for the colleges and I mean if you if you haven't been looking at the schedule we're two days away from the NFL season kicking off. That's right it kicks off on a Wednesday. There are no days that are too sacred for the NFL to play on. They'll

2:05play. There used to be Sundays and Mondays. Then Sundays Mondays and some Thursdays. Then every Thursday Sunday and Monday and we got some Fridays in there and now we're adding Wednesdays to the mix. There's only one day of the week left. Tuesday is holding out but we're gonna get a Tuesday again. I'm sure we've had some at some point but anyway yeah we're starting on Wednesday so we got so much going on that we have to do a show today. We've got Kansas Missouri kicking off this week on Friday night so we've got to get you ready for the the border war. The border showdown it's the border war. Yes the border war. That's where we're getting ready for on Friday and we've got blowout victories for all three local schools against inferior competition to break down. We already know about Missouri. I don't even had time to break that one down.

3:07There are 54 to 14 win. Kansas got a 51 to 6 win over Long Island. We'll talk about that and the Kansas State Wildcats. Well 71 to 3 over nickels so how much can we take from games like this. I'm not sure but maybe some indications as to personnel that we're gonna keep an eye on players that maybe we didn't know I mean with 30 plus players on the 2D for Kansas that were transfer portal guys you don't know who these guys are you know you're you're learning about them as you watch so maybe give you some some things that I saw in the game it stood out to me. Some talking points for these two teams as we get ready for that big game. Of course Kansas State is gonna take on Washington State coming up after they're big only a hey first indications of what the Colin Klein era is

4:07gonna be about at Kansas State. A lot of variety on offense he threw a lot out there which I think is fun I love that's one of the things I'm excited about with the Indie Codal Nicky coming back to Kansas the unpredictability these different formations and motions and oh they've got four tight ends out there what are they gonna do though they got two running backs you know things like that and I think we saw something that from Colin Klein at Kansas State he's obviously an offensive guru with the hell of a background in it so we'll talk about some of that stuff as well. Let me I'm getting choked up sorry it's up this is a true story I ate some chicken wings this morning I feel like I don't know what time it's too early to eat chicken wings what are we talking like standard buffalo barbecue they were buffalo wings from Johnny's tavern okay left over from yesterday I went there to watch a soccer game with some friends yesterday

5:12and I ordered like a dozen of them and so I had a few left over and I thought you know I'd be a good way to kick off the football week chicken wings I think it leftovers from the night before there's a lot of leeway of what time the next day you need them so pre six a.m. is okay or I guess it was about I'm gonna give you a pass here you got six a.m. yeah all right there uh causing me a little you know well you're gonna pay the price a little refund you're gonna pay the price old man reflux going on here uh yeah so they I they probably broadcast school would tell you not a great idea before you're starting a four hour show but you know that tell about the broadcast schools um we're here doing a real show all right here's what we got coming up we've got Pete Sweeney at seven thirty we are exactly a week away I guess a week in a few hours from kickoff but but this time Monday the tailgates will I don't know when they open the stadium for tailgating point is a week from today chiefs kickoff season against the Broncos that's one

6:16week away so we'll talk of Pete Sweeney get all the latest on the chiefs as we come into uh well that make this game day minus six whatever um minus seven I'm not good at math uh Scott Carroll will join us in studio in eight o'clock hour maybe we'll have some friendly back and forth um Mizzou versus KU talk there we'll talk some Royals Royals got to win yesterday as they play out the string so to speak um we'll we'll get the latest on what's going on with the Keynes of City Royals let's see latest check still in last place but only gave an half behind Detroit um and we talked about how hot they would need to get to make something happen well they're five and five over their last ten but they got to win yesterday so we'll we'll talk Royals and then we'll have Bill Moss at nine o'clock to uh to talk some chiefs and football just you know

7:19generally get you ready for the football season all right well it was the biggest story from the weekend Debes well it was the thing everybody was talking about it's got to be Michigan Michigan right yeah end of that game it was disgusting so are you still after seeing all of the statements from the big ten the release of the footage of the review booth process and how they determine that there was still a second left on the clock you're not satisfied you're not buying it wow I mean it's just how long has the old adage been oh on Hail Mary's you know passing your appearance oh you can't call that you know it's just yeah they're all pushing and shoving and grabbing down there I mean it's not like a real play yeah it's kind of always been what people said that's a dead ball it's the game's over you know it's like I don't know it's just it was very frustrating it's sad to see Western Michigan they played they grinded it out I mean it was just one two three yards whatever they needed it to maintain the ball throughout the game

8:23they played great on defense and then you get something like that however to come back the next play and complete the the Hail Mary is still incredible but I don't think they should have had the opportunity to do it do you think that the big ten or the people in that booth intentionally cheated to give them another play cheated no I think they used every fraction of an inch possible to find that to find them an extra second who seconds that was probably still on the clock but it's like we're splitting hairs so much here to give you guys one more chance yeah I mean I think it was rich eyes in the next day a Michigan Homer a big Michigan fan alumni going yeah Michigan needed 60 minutes plus maybe a little bit make 60.001 so my hats off to Western Michigan the way they handled it and it was just it was a shame I mean but with the end of the day Michigan's 1 to 0 and you know yeah I like the way the Western

9:28Michigan coach has handled it personally you know he's he's basically not blaming the refs he's saying look if we make this about the refs we become better and then we don't learn and we got to move on and that's probably all that's probably all right like hey listen at the end of the day sometimes you get a break that doesn't go your way you got to defend the play again you know don't give up a Hail Mary the second time if you were to give him the chance before the game to defend two Hail Mary is at the end of the game with a chance to win he probably would have signed up for that right away 100% I you can play the alarm if you want to don't if you don't want to but I have a different take on some of these things because I do because I watch so much damn soccer and during the World Cup one of the things you hear from all your non soccer loving buddies is about the clock right in soccer the clock ticks up you never know when the game's gonna end in soccer it's like just the refs gonna blow the whistle at some point you have an idea and even then when it gets to 90 minutes they add extra time so I saw a bunch of people joking about like hey apparently

10:33there is extra time in college football too you know just add a little second you look hard and so um and and there's this you know a lot by buddies there's like you know tip their dip their toe into soccer and go that's silly I mean you get the game just it is like at the referees discretion when it's gonna end I mean they'll say okay there's a minimum of four minutes of stoppage time but it could be four and a half minutes and what what happens a lot of times in soccer is they'll wait till an attacking phase is over then they'll blow the whistle they're not gonna blow the whistle if there's a potential goal sequence happening right in front of them because it's like oh that's it clock ran out they're gonna let that sequence play out then they're gonna blow the whistle and see a game over I kind of get a kick out of that because I watch my kids high school soccer games and it's a little anticlimactic it's like oh the balls all the way down to the other end of the field there's no time to score so there's 20 seconds left there might as well be zero seconds left you know um but it's a different sport and football is a sport where the clock stops all the time the game stops all the time soccer's a fluent game that a

11:38fluid game that moves and moves and moves you know football there's there's there's a play the ball stops and how many times especially in college football the clock stops it stops all the time go out of bounds clock stops set the chains for first down clock stops at least for a minute you know or for a for a moment until they set the ball set the chains and then they go again um and so I understand why you need everything to be down to the to the micro second at the same time one of the things that I find frustrating about college football is how much time we spend not playing football um watching the KU game I think there were three reviews on one drive guy guy guy guy steps out of bounds doesn't step out of bounds I mean it is a fraction of it you got to zoom in you got to you know is there any green showing and whether and that's the difference of whether or not there's four extra yards and I guess if you want to be like a hard

12:41core stickler you can say see that's right that's what they should do they get the call right and I'm more of the opinion of if it ain't an obvious play that really is a let's get on with the game um I liked the fact I liked when the NFL had the challenge system and you had to choose and they still do but now the challenge system to me is a bit of a joke because they still they also review turnovers scoring plays anything under two minutes like they they basically took all of the high leverage moments that you would have to decide if you want to save your challenge for and they got rid of those so now you can challenge whatever the hell you want fine but I don't like I don't tune into sports to watch replay reviews over and over and over again and I guess the part of the like so so the end of the game we're going to parse it down to nine tenths of a second because that's part of the problem we have here right is that that everybody watching at home

13:42even the broadcasters themselves saw a clock that said zero while the ball was still in the air and then the big 10 comes out and tells us yeah but that's not the clock that they're using in the replay booth that one said there's nine tenths of a second left and that's still a second you know um and they do the strobe testing which before the game for all the official clocks yeah so I can't we get the TV clock in sync with the the official clock I mean that matters you know and the transparency of it and it's like okay well you can release the footage after the fact but there's going to be an element of skepticism from the audience how authentic that all is with the clock you can make the clock show whatever you want um but the question I have is when the ball is snapped is the clock starting to the tenth of a second from when the ball is snapped on a dead ball like they're not reviewing that part of the play right so we're getting down to

14:50the tenth of a second as to whether or not there should be time on the clock for them to get another play yeah does the clock stock stop exactly when a receiver runs out of bounds like how many times that matters on the last second of the game apparently yeah and maybe you could argue maybe I don't know maybe people would say well that's when that's the only time they should care but it's like wait we're getting down to that we're getting down to a fraction of a second in one moment of the game but the rest of the game how many fractions of seconds were either gained or lost because the person pushing the button on starting the play after a ball you know dead dead ball out of bounds clock stops we snap it they start the clock again was that accurate down to the tenth of a second here's another fun hypothetical for you if that player who touched that ball tipped it up into the ear who was out of bounds by a fraction of an inch and Michigan caught it in the end zone what's the called in do they review it they would be that go well wait a minute actually the balls dad now you're going to try again um well no because if he catches it so much chaos if he catches it he's

15:54out of bounds yeah if he tips it in the air they would have to review it because he should have been out of bounds right like a guy out of bounds touched the ball right I think you would think yeah um I uh I don't know what the right answer is to it I do think that there's going to be something that comes of it in terms of trying to sink the broadcast up with what the video review process is and that's something that different leagues have different rules on how they handle it we um in major league soccer when I do games that's that's my frame of reference on it when they have a video review sometimes the referees have access to television angles that we don't have because they actually have access to the in house cameras as well and if you don't know what that means like if you're at a chiefs game the chiefs have their own camera guys there recording stuff and that when

16:55you're watching the video board they can you know they can show you footage of inside the locker room things like that when the chief players are warming up before the game and so like for MLS they have cameras like that and the refs have access to those cameras to get sometimes a better like an angle on some of that we didn't have so we're watching the game on television and we're like well I'm not sure why they're over turning this call and then we're told they've got access to a video to video footage we don't have and that's that's a challenge you know so uh but but it puts the broadcaster at a tough spot in this game when they're looking at it because you feel like you're being gaslit right like you're watching it and like I I was watching it I didn't watch it live and I went back and watching I'm like the balls in the air and the clock says zero zero no one's touched it yet how in the world could they say there's a second left on the clock um but they had they had something different in the video booth and that um man it was uh it was certainly controversial and the

18:00funny thing was like the next morning I was with uh I was with a couple of Michigan alums I I work with I was flying home from the game I was supposed to do this weekend and uh and one of them was like I mean they cheated they cheated they're that that's just that's flat out they they and he he was a Michigan fan because that's what it looked like at that time like you couldn't until you got the big tent coming out and release in the footage of everything and given their explanation there didn't seem like there was any explanation possible other than this is just this is just unfair like they there's zeroes I mean like you know what I mean like you're looking at it and you know there's zeroes on the clock and no one's touched the ball what my eyes are telling me otherwise pretty much yeah after that statement came out goes it's not exactly what I saw alive you know yeah yeah and so uh maybe that's another reminder to us that there are a lot of times more than meets the eye on things there's you know there's uh you know we we don't know the whole story I mean that's

19:04probably a lesson we could all learn about a lot of things in life is that you know you could be especially in today's today's world where people can feed you little video clips that are out of context and things like that and looks for all the world like one thing is happening and then all of a sudden you're shown another set of context and you and you realize oh that wasn't what it looked like at all um but this one still seems just a little fuzzy like it just it just seems a little fuzzy Michigan ends up winning the game um and I don't know what that's going to pretend for them for the season I mean they didn't look very good is this going to be one of those moments where they look back on it and go man that really uh you know could they could they be in a play in the playoff picture down the road and we're going man 9 tenths of a second at the beginning of the year could have cost them a playoff spot and now they're going to be in the playoff uh you know I don't think so that that looks like a team's got some problems to me um but you know time will tell on

20:06that oh we had some other close games Baylor you know comes down to the wire against Auburn the Colorado game was crazy yeah Colorado Georgia Tech was good that was a that was Thursday night I guess you guys miss Louis last night was an awesome game yeah went down to the wire Ole Miss kicks a field goal at the very very end to win it so there were there were some good games um on the docket but then there was also like how about LSU I mean just mop in the floor with Davos Sweeney's uh Clemson T 51 to 10 yeah that got out of hand really quick and the first thing I could think was is this LSU being this good or is Clemson this mediocre uh and I think LSU is all of you know top 10 team and they looked really good really fast you forgot how fast Levit was after last season you know you had a foot injury that kind of hampered him I mean he flies around when he breaks the pocket and Lee and Kiffin's making smart ass comments oh yeah what else is

21:07in there no like oh imagine we had some pro players on the team um I do think that game like you're saying that um the question there is you know is LSU that good or is Clemson that bad to me it's here's one program that's embracing the current uh set of circumstances in college football and one who's wishing for the past hold on to the past for dear life and and I and that's the scoreboard to me reflects the success of each approach you know like you can either get with the times or you can become a dinosaur and you know they they need to figure out a lot of things about college athletics yeah we could get get angry Todd Liebo and to discuss all those at some point

22:08but in the meantime when there are no rules and there are no adults at the table you might as well push every envelope that you can and and to be honest with you at this point you're Reese Davis had a I think it was Reese Davis that had his big rant over the weekend about this uh my saw online um when when people talk about how crazy it is for a guy to go pro and then come back to college that's outdated thinking college is pro the definition of professional is you get paid to do this this is your profession we're pros right now Debes we're getting paid on some level to do this at least I hope you are hope you're getting you know hope you get to pay check um and so like the idea for the longest time was this is amateurism college athletes are not pros

23:14they don't get paid they go to college they get a scholarship but they don't get paid they're all getting paid and they're getting paid a lot and they should when you talk about how many people are watching these games how many people are paying to get into the stadiums to see the games they should get paid but they are pros so the idea that you shouldn't be able to go to one pro league and then come back to this pro league is outdated it just is and and you have to figure out okay if who's eligible that's the thing now that that cats out of the bag you know it's it's the pros are playing is it going to be just a developmental league a league just for people that are on their way up that's what you have to determine now we'll take a break we got Pete Sweeney coming up this is a labor day version of new day with SSJ we're one a week away one a week one week away from the chiefs kicking off the two thousand twenty six football season against their nemesis the Denver Broncos the

25:21real yeah yeah one of my favorite you got to get you got to go grill swing by my place if you need one I'll get you one from Greengrass cattle company best burgers in town best you know see see how I had to work dead in deeps I served you up I served you up there and I will serve you up a cheeseburger if you swing by my house that's how much I care about you man that's good that's that's good all right a week away from the the chiefs opener I think I got a I'm just going to start with the biggest name the biggest story we've seen Patrick Mahomes or you have anyway in pre-season in camp but we haven't seen him in games or anything where is Patrick Mahomes from a health standpoint what do you expect to see from him in this first game a week from today yeah I think everyone's been like very pleasantly surprised with how he's come back from the injury I mean I I think if you watched him during training camp you simply saw someone who didn't really look

26:22all that injury I mean and they resumed in Kansas City and he was able to move inside the pocket he was able to really do a lot of the things that we have seen throughout his career if you go by the player I mean one of the things that stood out that caught my attention was you know although we were seeing him in my an our opinion you know I test do everything in training camp one of the things that so that was that he essentially said he didn't feel like he was as fast as a runner and that like the juice at a certain point in training camp and I think the chiefs will be realistic about what this is I mean this is still a player coming off a torn ACL and LCL I think that they're going to be a little bit more conservative in their offensive playbook at the start of the season I think you see a little bit more emphasis on the run game play action screen at least until about

27:25week three week four but as far as Pat goes I think he says good if he could possibly be you know just for being and when the day hits that's number 14 you mentioned a week from today I mean nine months of the day that is suffered an injury I think he plays and I I think that you are really careful you know quick passing run run the ball let's give this guy as much protection as we possibly can you think he's going to be wearing that big bulky knee brace or some sort of an e brace I think go where the new bracing tire yeah I mean I think it's the thing that he feels comfortable with that was one of the first questions I asked him when they did report to St. Show and I think it just gives him a little bit of a blanket of security and you know once you get through your your injured anchor injured knee year you feel okay now you know now I feel back maybe next year you don't see it but yeah I think I just make some feel a little bit better and I say I think you'll wear the brace all year you do it in college as well when you did have

28:28an injury in college we're visiting with Pete Swini all right so the the I don't think any of us I think we all would be stunned if we don't see Patrick but home's out there the bigger question then is about the guys protecting him right and and and so what is the latest with the Josh Simmons saga yeah when a player has a back injury in the NFL you just have to take them at their work and you know I think when you look at the the history of Josh Simmons you know Busting is asked to make sure he's ready for week one of his rookie season trying to to be and as good a shape as possible showing up you know and then of course there's been this back injury I think the chief really essentially told you at least all they know by not putting him on injured reserve if you put a player an injured reserve at the beginning of the year you know they'd have to miss four weeks I don't think they see that in Josh Simmons or they would have done it and so I and I confident

29:32that he plays week one now you know at the stage I don't think he will but it isn't ruled out and I think that least based upon the moves of the chiefs of May they at least think he'll be back by week three you you you would always put that player you know on the injured reserve so it gives you another spot and so based upon what we've seen I think it'll be a Khalil Benson of left tackle I think it'll be Jalen Moore at right tackle and that plays into like the offensive offensive game plan for the chiefs as well I mean I really think that they will try to run the ball as much as they can a certain place that get the ball out of past hands under under three seconds like you're trying to design things for two and a half seconds quick pass the screens runs you know I obviously this is not ideal but injuries happen all the time and I think in this particular

30:32one I'd be surprised if Josh Simmons started week one and of course I can be proven wrong too right but I just think that's where the two surround at the stage is there a chance he practices this week yeah of course like we see it all the time and it's hard it makes things more difficult especially when a certain team you know isn't is it abundantly clear you know as far as what's happening you could feel an unlimited practice that where you know he gets on the field and tries and then you're kind of unsure the best part for us as reporters is training camp at the preseason because we're able to watch the entire practice we're now in 15 minute media window I'll let me tell you what I've seen so much and the team is not always overly willing to share you know what's going on I mean when you have Nick Bedito staring down staring you down you're

31:34not trying to share too much I mean it's better to almost keep that close to your best and we know Andy Reed has liked to do that but I I think one thing that is good about the regular season is they have to share some kind of injury report and so we'll get some kind of update but again I mean like nobody knows what the player I would tell you I just being around the game for so long and just seeing how things go I would lean that he doesn't play but I mean I again I think there's a pathway to being surprised and maybe he ends up feeling better and you know to get this thing straightened out but again I I'd lean no but I you never know I think it's the best way to play it yeah and when you use phrases like get this thing straightened out and hearing Andy Reed talk are they any closer to actually knowing what is wrong I know we know it's a back injury but like what's the cause of it if they got any closer to that because it seems like that would make you feel a lot better about knowing okay well here's the plan on how to recover from it yeah I mean

32:35obviously ideally you know you'd feel like at least there was some kind of plan I'm not sure that that has happened yet but again like you have to trust a player like anything like back injury look a back injury is tough to evaluate just because it you know anything could be going on we know like just in the human body the back has vertebrae like there are just so many parts to it and the chiefs are trusting the player and the I think the player trusts the chiefs and they they're at a point where you know at least as of last week because the players were able to to go away this weekend you know the latest I had heard is they're trying to collaborate to get this thing figured out I think the biggest thing that you could do that's definitive is they chose not to put this player on I.R. I mean that's the best I have for you Nate yeah which mean what would have been at a four week minimum so at least there's something going on where they feel like at least

33:36this player can play by week three and so they're going to go with that I mean you know at a certain point you have to just try to put your best foot forward again I'd lean that he does not play week one but again you never know you never know what have this thing goes we're we're visiting with Pete Swinney let's get to then the the the alternative as you said you I believe you said you believe it'll be Khalil Benson left tackle and Jalen Moore at right tackle we've been kind of wondering who would be on which side why why do you think they're going to lean that way for Benson on the left and more on the right yeah that was one of the things I have to trace myth when when we were talking to him last week you know just because it's been like rotating as far as you know who they're deciding to to put it right tackle and at least of what we seen last week and I asked race myth it was is Khalil Benson it left and and Jalen Moore at right and I think that I just feel like that's the the best way to go about it right now and Khalil Benson for what

34:41it's worth I think it's been good not great during training camp in the preseason I think one thing that you've seen is they've had an ability to run the ball with these guys I where where it gets a little bit dicey especially Khalil Benson an under-afford rookie has been with speed rushing which is something that the Broncos do well I think what you're looking at on Monday Night Football is just like a new look version of the chiefs I mean I think it's just something that we're we have not seen in a while where the chiefs just considering the offensive line injury to to assignments the the injury to a Patrick Mahomes the fact that you might be playing an under-afford rookie at left side I think this is going to be a little bit of a ground and pound type of team that like very fast you know one of the things that you see even like with a bone X as they just try to get it out of his hands as fast as possible this is not going to be an offense where you're you're feeling like and I think a lot of chiefs fans couldn't resonate with this but you

35:44not having time for a while this is a quick running spring you know it's very you know small ball type of offense at least for the first couple of weeks when you are playing this type of defense and you don't have the protection and so yeah I mean at least based upon what the chiefs have shown and we have we've asked them at press it I tend to think it'll be Benson at left and more at right again I'm not sure unless you're pleasantly surprised by Simmons who ends up practicing this week the first injury report of the week is a day later I know everyone's waiting for Wednesday but it'll be Thursday because you know everything is a day later for for the money and I football game and so we'll have a better idea better this week and I'll be happy with that because I can when I walk on the street Nate people are asking about Josh Simmons and so I'm not the only one no I'm not a little bit more clarity on Thursday you know I would add one thing when you

36:44listed off all the reasons that this would be a different offense than what we've seen you talked about the entry to my homes the situation with the offensive line I mean throw one more thing in there the biggest addition that they made to the team in the off season was a running back they knew after last year they faced more light boxes than anybody in the NFL nobody respected their run game whatsoever they had no explosive plays so they went out and they got the Super Bowl MVP and they brought in Kenneth Walker so not only do you have these other things that would hinder your ability to sit back there and chuck the ball all over the place you added something that should that that like a weapon for you to use in in the same vein so but I think what's fascinating about it Pete is Andy Reed has never been a ground and pound kind of guy I mean he's always been a throw first type of I mean that's the basis of almost his entire philosophy we have seen like when

37:47Karim Hunt was in his prime we saw a little bit more under center and play action stuff and things like that but I think it's all I don't know about you but it's it's fascinating to sit here and try to picture like what type of run versus pass split do you expect to have in a game like this all of the factors leaning towards they should run the ball and play and do a lot of play action pass but it's Andy Reed that we're talking about that's going to be calling these plays. Yeah I think I think this idea that Andy Reed suddenly forgot about how to change his offense in one off season that's just is so grossly overblown like and you know and it's not like you need it's not like any other kind of local show or whatever I mean because I've heard a lot of it I mean it's even nationally where it's driven me nuts I mean this is this is maybe the best head coach of all time like if you really have watched what's has happened in North Carolina the past calendar year like are we are we talking about like the greatest head coach of all time like

38:51I think he knows when to adjust yeah I mean I everyone is human I think it's probably a year too late but like you started to see the NFL change in like 2019 2020 with those Vic San geo style defenses the too high these exotic type of looks like you know in talking to Andy Reed at St. Joe you know teams used to be just their team like they would show the same types of looks cover one cover two cover three you know be that type of team where they just always go back to the well I mean now the Seattle Seahawks like I don't I still don't think like you Sam Darnold woke up and is just one of the better quarterbacks I mean that team was built on just some really really smart defense that confuses quarterbacks and essentially across the league which is why you at like in your buddies are are dressing more running backs and fantasy football after like there was a wide receiver wave is because it's become impossible to let plays develop and have enough time to to have

39:54a little legion of zoom style chief and yeah I mean I think if there's one thing to complain about Andy Reed it maybe they took a year too long to get away from RPO but we saw more under center a training camp that we ever have before they going at a running back I think they want their offensive line to be to be so focused on all right this is a run or this is a pass like let's let's have you guys focus on run blocking from jump and you know it and then we have Ken Walker who's one of the better running backs and in the NFL you know we think this is a top five top 10 guy Ken Walker also like really and and one of our partner papers in in in Washington had reported this and could us to them you know I don't have the name in front of me but he was privately upset that Zach Charbonne was getting a red zone touches and touches at the goal line because he wanted to have touchdowns himself and there's no way a player agrees to going to a team like Kansas City

40:55if you're not going to run him in the spots that he wasn't getting when it was a time share and I think that's also part of the reason why Maridim or Akato didn't get kept on the team the team. Nuss Meyer had to stay on the team because the team spent to pick on him and so that had to come from somewhere the reason the Mercado is not on this team right now is A. Emma Johnson flashed in the preseason but B. it's mostly going to be Ken Walker I really think that they feel like this is a three down back that they're going to run their their offense through that the torch was supposed to pass from Travis Kelsey to to Rishi Rice as far as let's run our offense through you but I think now there's a buffer year it's like this offense I'd be I'd be stunned if the offense wasn't run through Ken Walker and I know that feels insane to say about about Andy Reed but I just I think he's admitted in his actions and what we've seen a training camp that like he's ready to make this an under center play action screen style offense for for multiple reasons that

41:57we've talked about the entire the entire show or that the entire segment here uh made it it's just Mahomes injury what's this protection like it just makes sense to be a boring style offense at least for a little while and I certainly think you see that at the beginning of the season I don't want my comments to be misconstrued whatsoever for the record in my opinion Andy Reed is the greatest coach to ever live um no no no and like like I said to me that like it's not against you it's like just I've heard it so much this entire offense uh offseason it's been like can Andy Reed actually change I mean do you guys remember when Alex Smith was reinvented and he and Andy Reed basically brought the RPO like back and all of a sudden Alex Smith was like rolling and had the best year of his career like that I mean I I know that we're so obsessed with the Mahomes there and I get it I mean this is a champion of you know the five AFC titles and all that Andy like essentially

42:59reinvented Alex Smith where uh you got a Washington any sizes gigantic contracts because he made him again like I don't know you know he three he brought that Utah stuff to the NFL um which had to get Vic uh Vangel back in the lab that that changed defenses I mean I I don't know I just think sometimes generally like these ideas are so shortsighted I mean I'm the the the chiefs are so fortunate to have Andy Reed in so the city yeah no the the the the the tenor of my question because I agree with you 100 percent it's obvious I mean he had Alex Smith as the number one rated quarterback in the NFL uh when they when they trade him away um it's the idea like he evolves he changes he brings it and he brings in people to help challenge him with new ideas but almost at the center of that and I I don't know the numbers maybe I'm wrong about this but I feel like no matter what his offense is they're going to throw at 60 percent of the time and I'm
