0:00This is the best of the Eagles on sports radio 94 WIP. The big question obviously for this season is about the offense. The micro-big question is about Jalen. You know, is it going to work with him? But the macro-big question is, will the offense work? Will the offense work? Let us know with 215-592-94-94. Answer the question, will the offense work? John Richie was obviously the biggest reason why last year didn't go further. I mean, in that game, the defense had some struggles. But for the season, you know, the defense was exceptional. The offense was a bit below average. It was tough to watch. John, will this offense this year work? Yes. This offense has been proven to work since the 1970s. And now it's got the modernization of, you know,

1:02Shawn Manian's experience with Shawn McVeigh. You know, they put the outside zone twist on things for the run game in particular. But the past game is what it has been for, I mean, as long as I've been alive. So this is real. I was told growing up that the NFL had offenses that were NFL offenses and that the college stuff wasn't going to work in the NFL. Okay. That's what I believe because that's what I was told. I got to the NFL. We were running, you know, the same offense I ran in college because at Stanford, we ran the West Coast offense. But I expected it to be different than what the college teams did. And then what we saw in the last, I don't know, 20 years is that sort of blood into one another, the college and the pro game. They intermingled the offensive concepts.

2:03And it absolutely worked for a while. And, you know, just like the wild cat worked for a while, I think that this had a, you know, a time span, a fresh date that has expired now. And that's what we ran into. It was, you know, simplified to let the guys run around and beat and play fast, not overthink things. But it also left a lot of room for error because it wasn't complex enough. It was too predictable. It had too few escape routes if you saw, you know, overload blitzes. If you saw the, what's the, the really invoked now, which is where you drop, you know, you can fuse, fuse and quarterbacks. The angle guys at the line of schematics. Yeah. Like the zone, the zone blitz where you're dropping weird guys.

3:05Like all this stuff can be compensated by the West Coast concepts. And now Sean Mannians here, you know, when he arrived, we heard Jordan Myelotta call him, you know, a mad scientist. This was something that a lot of guys felt was exciting and new. I think that matters a lot. These are all good signs for this team. Of course, Mannians needs to prove himself in September. He's never called plays before. Things might look imperfect initially. He could flub a collar too early. I think we all should expect that. But by the time the season gets rolling, I do think with the run game featured with Seikwon Barkley having a comeback season, he has reason to play, I mean, to play as but off. I can't wait to see the way he, with this offensive line healthy.

4:05I can't wait to see him in open field again. I can't wait to see a start, a season with the run game featured. I don't think that's ever happened here. With Andy, it never happened. We were always complaining that we didn't run the ball enough. I think that's just, that sort of befalls most teams. But I do think that this team understands that's where their bread is buttered. You know, that, I can't wait to see the even balance between the run and the passing. I expect that. The Eagles have been a really good running team for most of the years, the last 10 years. I mean, the line has been great, even when it wasn't, even when it wasn't Jalen as a running Orianna quarterback, even when they had falls or wence they generally were running it well, even when they didn't have Seikwon, they were generally running it well. But they didn't seem committed to the run right at the games. That's right. It's like they wanted to get big bites. Yeah. They wanted to go for it all, go for the gusto.

5:05I think this old line, last year, our old line was injured. Last year, our old line, we had, I don't know, three guys healthy. It felt like we got ten, nine or ten deep on that old line. And we got to see a little more of these guys in the preseason. I have a lot more faith that if a guy goes down on that old line this year, we will have better compensation for that. Well, I will say this, I do not think the offense will be good. Well, you're wrong. Well, we'll find out. I mean, here's the, here's why on earth would an offense that's worked for 50 years. Yeah, like an amp. Stop working because with a roster that's as talented as that. Well, because of personnel. So let's talk about the scheme for a moment. Then we'll get to the personnel. So, John, when you talk about this, this offense works meaning this scheme works. It does at times. It also doesn't at times. I think part of your thoughts on all this are clouded. And it compliments to you. You're a big, frickin' part of it. By being a part of two great offenses.

6:06John Grewdans, Rich Ganon offense, had a lot of talent and a lot of success. And Andy Reads, Donovan Ignatb offense, had a lot of talent and a lot of success. Yes, this offense can work if you have a lot of talent. But there's a lot of teams that have run this offense over the last 40, 50 years. Andy Reads didn't have a lot of talent in the receiving court. But they had a tremendous offense of line. And they had you. And they didn't run it. But just because the water severs weren't always the strong ones. The running backs were strong. Change the thrash and Todd Pinkfins. Yes, that's two starters out of 11. You had good tight ends. But they're the receivers. They're two of 11. You had a strong offense of line. You had a good full back. You had a great running back. You had a great quarter back. You know, it's... So, look, I've seen this offense as a scheme work. We didn't work enough. I've seen this offense as a scheme not work. It generally comes down to one word. Personnel. I wear it back. I don't worry about the Eagles personnel. I'll give you my reasons specifically on them in a nutshell. Two of them. And then one other concept.

7:06I do worry about Hertz. I don't think he will be particularly good in this offense. One. Two. No. Why? Because I don't think he'll pass the ball on time. Sean Manion says he's impressed by the way. Jalen Hertz is picking all of this up. Sean Manion is the guy that's... It's not going to send any other one. It's a pinion now. We'll find out in four days. One, I'm not a believer in Hertz in his offense flourishing. I don't think he's going to be a disaster. But when I ask the question to the Eagles offense, it will be good. My number one reason for no is because of Hertz in the passing game. That's one. Two. No. AJ. Because AJ Brown said last year, passing is what we needed to work on. That was two years ago. You're going to take his word for that? My eyes. I take my eyes. Well, your eyes. Your eyes are looking at something different. All right. The other reason number two, no. AJ. You guys can all think, hey, how it ended first San Fran to find the AJ thing. No, it didn't. Four years of excellence to find AJ. We're like three and a half. AJ was a superb frickin football player. We're going to see it tonight with the New England Patriots. It's going to aggravate me. It's going to aggravate you. He's gone. And they got no replacement for him of anywhere near his ilk.

8:08That's two. And three. And this can be improved upon as the season goes on. But I think we're all in agreement. It will be slower out of the gate early than later, just because it's so new to all of them. So yeah, hell yeah, I worry about the frickin offense. You're saying. AJ would make this team better. Yeah. You're saying Jalen Hertz can't run this offense. I didn't say can. I do not think he will be good in the offense. He's had a new offense every year. No. He knows how to learn an offense. He's got this offensive coordinator raving about how he's learning this offense. We'll say. Yet. You don't think he can run this offense. I have seen this offense run. As I said in college by kids who just arrived at a high school. It is not rocket science, but it feels like it when you're playing against it. It's hard for the defense. It's easy for the offense. Does that make you understand any better? No. How easy this offense can be when it's run properly.

9:10When it's coached properly. And I think Sean Manion is going to coach this problem. We'll take your phone calls. Let us know. Do you think the Eagles offense will be good? Simple question. Will it be good? Will it work? Now they should run the ball pretty good. But man, the passing game wears me. She's in common. Yeah. She seems like that. By the way, go birds. All right. So we're excited. We're excited. Let me tell you how I feel. When I get everyone's prediction, how you feel, your sense of what do you think is going to happen? I'm going to break it down into three parts. This is where I'm at. Number one, obviously, excited. Always excited. Some years more excited than others. This isn't like top excitement for me. But it's certainly not like, hey, if you're old enough to remember 1998, you knew it was going to be a disaster. Remember that read when they got shut out? Was it 38 and off? You don't know. I was there. It was Seattle. It was Seattle. It was Seattle.

10:10It was all on the one. And I think they had honored somebody. Like a half to a half time. No, no, no, that's the game in 05 when we honored Reggie. And that was also a Seattle and also a whole horrible blowout loss. Yeah. But yeah. So anyway, I'm going to say Reggie. That was the have to Reggie passed away. So, you know, this to me isn't top end. It's not bottom end. But I'm excited. I'm always excited. So we start with that. Number two. I'm going to just give you my prediction out of the gate and my general sense of expectation. My prediction is 10 and 7. For a good portion of the all season, I thought I was going to say 9 and 8. You know, I remembered as the season got closer over the last couple of weeks. The Eagles do win an awful lot. They do win an awful lot. They generally play a smart part of football that leads to winning. So I'm going to give them, you know, some benefit of the doubt there 10 and 7. But my overall regarding just general feel of season is I'm going to tell you, I think it's going to be very, very similar to last year just with one last,

11:10one last regular season win. I think the defense will be awesome. I think the offense will have issues. And I just think it will honestly net out very similar. That's like, that's my season prediction. That it nets out very similar. But instead of winning 11, they win 10. And then let me get to prediction number three. Because obviously it's going to be fascinating to find out how it works with Jailin and this offense. I think we all know the team is not as all in on him as some segments of the fan base are. And I'm going to give you my prediction for how this thing ends. Hold on. What? You said you think we all know the team is less in on him than some segments of the fan. What does that mean? Those that won him here for the next five years, like, oh, he's definitely our guy for the next five years. I don't think the team is saying all you know we got. You don't think that and you're basing this off of how he's answer when he said all this guy does is win. Bit. We are not. Premar. We are not considering jettisoning our quarterback.

12:11Like you think we are. That's basically how he's answered your question. I base it on two things. One. So you're ignoring his answer. Oh, I love continuing to stay on this track. No, no, for sure. Where it's, okay, Jailin is at risk of losing his job. Look at the way Dany. Look at the way Dany has just questions about base running. Yes, I often ignore what was some of those guys say. I will say this two things they've based that on is is one he hasn't been given a contract extension. Well, wait until after this. Yeah, and two they've embarked on a new offense. So I do think I do think they're not as in as a person. They've embarked on a new offense every year he's been here. No, they haven't, but we will stay have. That's fine. I can't do that again. It's a whole it's a whole different thing. But let me let me. You're denying facts. Okay. The problem is you're you're taking what you believe in imposing that upon the facts. Instead of taking those facts and using them to create your beliefs. Fair enough. All right, let me get to my third overall thought and really prediction.

13:13My prediction regarding Jailin is that after this season there will be a immense consternation amongst the fan base of whether to keep him or not. My prediction is he will not be great enough that it's a no-brainer to keep him. And he will not be bad enough that it's a no-brainer to get rid of him. I think it's going to be very similar at the end of this year as like this last off season where the fan base is torn with more thinking to keep him. But still a lot on both sides. You know what this is exactly like. And that he will have a tough to say. That's my prediction. You walking around the when we went to the Sixers game the very first Sixers game we went to together and you were telling everyone Ben Simmons was a Hall of Famer. This is before Ben had ever played. Yeah, so I thought he'd make a hole. Before Ben had done anything as a Sixer and you were convinced so much though that you were telling folks and they're like what?

14:13Yeah, no, I don't think it's anything like doing. But that's what it is exactly like that. You are set in this stance and regardless of the proof that comes flying in your face that all started to be. No, we'll see what you insist on sticking to this narrative. Well, that's fine. Okay, look, let's give him a chance to prove what he can do in the season. And here's a deal, John. And I'm excited because this offense works and he will work this offense. Alright, let me make sure this is clear for everyone. I'm going to give him that chance. I'll make my evaluation of five months on the seasons over. It sounds like you already have. No, I'm telling you. You're telling me. John, John, John, hold on. John, listen to me for a second. I'm telling you I haven't. You keep telling me I have. I'm telling you I haven't. You're telling me at the end of the season everyone's going to be up in arms. I'm worried. Is he the guy? Is he not the guy? Yes, my prediction is on earth. John, John, my prediction is it won't be clear. You can disagree. But I'm telling you my prediction is that it won't be clear and obvious. Your prediction is the same as it has been every year for a challenge.

15:18Yes, come on, John. I did not say every elistic. I did not say after every year you assume. Well, now I can remember, Jaylen is not going to be our quarterback in 2025. I can remember Jaylen is not going to be our quarterback in 2026. I didn't say in 2025. I said in 2026. That's the one time I said that. Anyway, everyone obviously got, like I said, a constanation about Jaylen out of the gate. You heard what I said. 215-592-94-94. John, what are your thoughts? What are your predictions? I am so frustrated with you in particular because you haven't seen anything to base this on. You've seen nothing yet to base this opinion on. We went to camp. We watched the team practice. We have some idea of what this offense is going to look like. But we know they show nothing in the preseason. We know it's all about keeping everything close to the vest. Nick Sireoni feels so strongly that he doesn't want to divulge anything.

16:18So we've shown very little with our second and third stringers. All we've heard is Jaylen is doing a great job picking this offense up. And I think we all understand, especially after watching last night's game, that teams early in the season, they are not the teams they are by the end of the year. The team you are at the end of the year is what matters. The team you are at the beginning of the season is a starting point that I think we all assume we will grow from. So I do think Jaylen, I guess he's the center point of our conversation. I think Jaylen will be outstanding because he has been outstanding. I think we will continue to win at a massive clip. And he will learn on the fly because he has to. It's not going to look great when we when we weigh the offense in September.

17:25But by the end of end of September beginning of October, we will be starting to feel pretty confident in the way things look. And I do think this is the year that will actually start with running the football. Where we will actually start by applying pressure and using our strengths to our advantage because I think Sean Manion is smart. I think Sean Manion is going to take what this team does best and grow that. So right now that means hand the ball off to say one inside zone, outside zone, let him make the cuts and then play action off of that. I don't know how often we've seen Jaylen play action out of non-shotgun, play action from center when he's rushing, you know, running with his arm outstretched. We saw Donovan do this all the time running with his arm outstretched as the back is, you know, his aiming point is the outside butt cheek of the tight end.

18:30So it's really wide. Then he takes that ball, pulls it in, bootlegs out the other way. I don't remember the last time we've seen that. What we've seen from him is by time by time by time roll one way and hopefully guys get open down field. This is such a departure. What we're about to see this year is such a departure from what we're accustomed to. I don't think that means it's going to be a failure. I don't think that means it's going to be up in the air by the end of the season. I think the fact that this offense is so proven. This fact, this offense is so time tested. Now, even against these new look defenses that are at the top of their game, I mean, the defenses are winning in the NFL right now. But by the time this offense picks things up and gets rolling and feels good about what they've learned and they're applying it on the field,

19:31I think we can hang with anyone in this league. I really believe that. I love the defense. I love the personnel on both sides of the ball. I love the fact that the offensive line is going to be healthy entering the season. And the balance that we're looking for, the balance we've been begging for, run pass, I think will finally be satisfied. I hope that's what we'll see. I think that's what serves Jalen's purpose is best. And it's, I think it's going to be another very successful season. What's your prediction on whether run 12 wins in the regular season? I think we make a run. I think we have a good chance to compete for the conference title. Based on, again, when I saw last night, the Rams, they didn't have Aaron Donald out there. The Rams were, they looked like they were still on the plane.

20:32The entire game. I mean, that was just look full. I think that was, I think that was a really dumb decision by the Rams. I don't know that we should make sweeping judgments on the Rams. I think it was more just about they handled the plane wrong. Hold on, hold on. We don't know until most, I think their whole point was they were willing to roll the dice with this game to feel better for the games we're in for the Niners are a week off the schedule. Like that's what I've heard. I said it was better for this game, but from moving forward, it might hurt the Niners. But I will say James, if they should my James, if they knew and you can't know in advance, but if they knew that it was going to submarine their chances and it may have, look, maybe the Rams are weaker than we thought, but I tend to think they're not. I tend to think the plane was the hallmark of that game, the travel. If they knew that that was going to happen, I don't think they would have done it that way, James. No, I think that they rolled the dice thinking they would play better. I agree. I'm just saying I think they prioritized moving forward rather than this game. But it's poorly as they played last night. I do think it was a game up until the Rams failed on the push push on fourth down on the gold line.

21:38Yeah, Matthew Stephman come on. I've seen that. That was the turning point of the game. So again, they claimed, hey, we're still on LA time. And yes, I agree. You look that way. You look like you were still asleep. You look like you were still in LA, but we will not have that sort of issue that we're dealing with in terms of. No, normal Washington will get a more real look what's going on. Look, one of here from you, two one five five nine two ninety four ninety four sense of anticipation and excitement predictions reasons why thoughts on where this net's out both from a season standpoint and a challenge standpoint at the conclusion. It's football season. We're here for a reason. We are here for rally and worse for it. And we're here to talk about the birds and the outlook of the season. Ray Ditter, Jewel, join us in the 12 o'clock hour. Elliott after Eagles practice today. We got a lot to discuss, including something happened contractually NFL yesterday that's really is. So here's you I have to ask a question.

22:42To got and I have to say something along with the question. Well, see now now I'm starting to wonder if because everyone knows what I'm about to say. I'll just drop the audio. So I didn't say it out loud to everyone on listening. But you I was reading this morning sports illustrated had their predictions for the season. Yes, then eight experts predict the NFL post season. Like pick all the 14 teams to make it and you know, pick a win the suit. And you know, I. And I expect to see a lot of Rams, right Rams win the suit both C. Hawks, right? Those are the best teams last year. I get that. But you I noticed of the eight experts that picked the post season. How many picked the Eagles to just even make the playoffs out of the eight. Two two at eight. I guess right. You know, you nailed it. You nailed it. Two out of eight. And you know what it made me think you. What's that? Well, maybe think like we've been. We have been saying a lot of things all off season. But I don't think we've put them together as a fan base. So what have we been saying all off season? Man, the NFC is looks like it got better, right? The underbelly got better. Do we talk about how the Cowboys look like they might be a legit threat. Okay. So the NFC's got better. The Cowboys look like they're a legit team. So I think we have a race in the NFC's.

23:48We also I think recognize there's a lot of good teams in the NFC, right? The NFC West had the two best teams at pro football last year. The Rams look like they got better. Seattle's going to be really good. The 49ers are good. We know the North has some good teams with Chicago who emerged last year. Okay. So there's probably going to be there. It will not be easy to be a wildcard. So Hugh, that has led me to realize that I don't think the Eagles are a lock to make the playoffs. I haven't felt this way in about five years. They they have felt like a lock to me for four or five years just to be in the playoffs, whether it be a high seat or a wildcard or whatever. And Hugh, I wake up today as we're about to start the season. And I think it's more of about a 50 55% chance. Like I think they have a good shot, but not an overwhelming shot to make the playoffs. I think they're going to be right there with three or further teams battling for either the East with the Cowboys or a wildcard spot with Chicago Detroit, Seattle, whatever. So I go into the season. We have a lot of question marks on the offense. We have a lot of question marks on the team. No way J Brown, Hill, Dave, you tonight. But for the first time in a long time, I don't think they're a lock to even make the playoffs. Hugh or the Eagles a lock to be playing in the middle of January.

24:56Yes. All right. Why? Because they have to. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, you know what? They have to. I need a reason. First of all, Cal back above me. No, no, but you know what? Because I feel like this team's roster. Like when you go into this season, your first, your first goal is to win the division, right? Yes. And I still think that even though the Dallas Cowboys got better, the Eagles are still the class of the NFC by a lot by the East and at least NFC East by a lot or a little. By a slight margin. Okay. All right. But I feel like because when you talk about the offense for the for the Cowboys is pretty decent. They've been. I think it's elite. They've been pretty decent and that is that looks like he's a leader. He's turned into a leader that that defense last year. They had a stretch with even when they got rid of Micah. They had a stretch when they got Quinn Williams where they look like they were going to be a contender and then they kind of fell off. So they're going to be better, but they got a new. I think they got a new coordinator.

26:00Oh, that's part of the. Yeah. So it's going to take a while for them to jail. I feel like I'm really leaning on this defense to heavily carry us through carry water for us through these tough times that we're going to be in. But with that being said, we still have a quarterback who's been in this, who's been familiar with this. This head coach for a while, we still have some some serviceable offensive linemen. We still got say, Juan Barkley tank, this be look like he's look. He's poised to take another leap in that offense. So I just feel like as far as the veteran leadership on this team, we have that over the Dallas Cowboys. Just a slight is the giants are going to be better. No question about that. But the Commodore's I think they're going to take a step back. I don't think that you know their preseason, you know what's funny when I think of preseason and how much we don't put up a whole lot of stock into it and the Commodore's got smashed in preseason quite a bit. I feel like they're going to be a team with, especially with the office line being heard, Larry Thompson being banged up or being out. I should say that they're going to struggle offensively for a little while.

27:07I agree with you. I don't know the commanders were much. I think they're the worst team in the division, but I think we'd all agree the division top to bottom is probably better than it has been in a while. Right. You know, the giants have been a joke for a while. They're probably going to be better than a joke with Harbaugh. And the cow the Cowboys to me are the thing that changes the conversation. I mean, like if the Cowboys think and the Eagles could just win this division, then we just start there. But to me, we have a division race. And if there's a division race, I think then you have to start thinking like, all right, if we don't win the division or the wild cards clearly available. And I look at the North with Chicago and Detroit and then the West with Seattle and the rest of the world. You might have what you got Chicago emerging. You got Detroit and that division. Of course, even in what Green Bay might be a contender. I think they take a little step back with Parsons her for a lot of the season to start off, but but wait, you throw them in. I mean, they've been a playoff team. Got three teams that are going to be five. Well, number one. Guys, there's only seven spots, right? And one of the spots goes to the South automatically, right? It's just one of those teams. I think there'll be New Orleans wins a division. So that means there's six spots for all these good teams. You know, last year, the Detroit Lions coming off a 15 win year the year before.

28:08They felt a nine and eight and missed the playoffs. So it to me, it ratchets up the sense of urgency that I have for the Eagles Sunday. They have to win that game like the every NFC game becomes huge. I don't think this team for the first time in years is a lock to make the playoffs. Well, we'll figure out if they could win the football and get there when they get there. But I think the number one thing is, are we sure they're going to make the playoffs? 215, 592, 94. All right. You are the elephant in the room. They have before we get Kyle's take on this. Well, because you know, the guy that's playing tonight was a big part of the reason they made the playoffs all these years. He was the number one option in the passing game. He was a huge play player. And I didn't want him here anymore because he didn't want to be here anymore. That's fine. We're all dumb with AJ Brown. I'm rooting against him. But he's not here. Now we're brown. Yeah. Well, it's fine. But he's not here. And that in my opinion lowers the ceiling on this particular team. And maybe even changes their floor, which used to be 11 wins. I'm not sure if it's that anymore. 215, 592, 94, 94. We're at McGurkson Warriors for the rally in Roseford. All right. Are the Eagles locked to make the playoffs?

29:09Let's start there. We got a lot to talk about today. But there's always kind of a baseline of where we start the season. Is this team a lot? Kyle? I feel like we haven't had one of these conversations in years. Are the 2026 Eagles unlocked to make the playoffs? So lock is strong. Like if I had to bet on them to make the playoffs, I would do it. But I can't say they're a lock when like, I don't, I'm not sure 10 wins gets you in. Like I can't be certain of that. So like, do I think the Eagles are going to win 11 games? That's what I have them projected as, but would I be surprised if they won one fewer? No. So like I can't say they're a lock. I also don't even think they're necessarily locked to win the division. Like I think the Cowboys got a lot better this season. I don't know how much better the Eagles got than last year. Like I think it's pretty similar there. So I don't know. Like I've 10 wins, 11 wins, 11 wins, maybe when you the division. But you know, I can see the Cowboys win in 12 games, 13 even. Like unfortunately. So if I don't think the Eagles are even a lock to win their own division, then I can't just go and say the Eagles are a lock to make the playoffs.

30:12I can't either. No, and that's, I think that's it. Like, you know, if we think they're going to win somewhere between nine and 10 games, if you're in that camp, that's where I'm at. I'm in that camp. That to me is borderline. Like that might be, again, Detroit Lester missed out on a, on a playoff birth by a tiebreaker. I think there's going to be a good team in the NFC. Maybe it's the Eagles, maybe it's San Francisco, maybe it's Chicago Bears. I don't know. But someone's going to win nine or 10 games and not be in the playoffs. That to me, that adds a sense of urgency every game and how they got to get moving fast. I don't think they're a lock. Where do you come down? 215, 592, 94.94. 31:12Yeah, Hugh Douglas, I got to tell you. Look, week one every year is a big deal. Week one every single year has extra meaning. Week one every single year, you feel like the game matters a little bit more. Just because it's the first one, right? You want to get off to a good start. But I think for this Eagles team in this particular year, week one has extra importance. To the point where I will say, this is a must win game for the Philadelphia Eagles. This is not just, hey, let's get off to a good start. It'd be nice to get off to a good start. No. If the Eagles are going to be the team that we want them to be, that a lot of people think they are going to be, even though there's a lot of transition here. We're in a new core day or no, AJ, if that's going to happen. If all the predictions I've heard this summer of 11, 12, 13 wins are going to happen. The only way they occur is if this game is a win for the Eagles. So if the Eagles are going to be the team, they're expected to be. Then this is a must win game. They cannot drop this game. I don't care what it looks like, but they have to win the game. This is a must win game. Look at the schedule coming up. They will be favored big next week. It's going to be great. After that, they go to Chicago in a Monday night. They're going to be an underdog in that game.

32:13The Rams come here and I know what I was going to say. Joe, you said, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, the Rams will be fine. They're like a Eagles. They're right. And I will get to it. We'll talk about last time. The Rams will be fine. And guess what? They're probably still going to be a favorite here in week four. That's going to be a very challenging football game. If the Eagles are going to go off to the start, we want them to. It has to include a win against the commanders. This is a must win. I don't care. It's week one. The next time they play the commanders, they're down in Washington on a short week. They have to take you look at their schedule. You this probably one of the five easiest games in the schedule all year considering the talent. So then it's a must win football game. Right? No. Oh, come on. It's a it's a it's a it looks pretty good. But we saw what happened last night. I don't know what the point spread was for that game. It was four and a half. But uh, man, it was lopsided. And it was lopsided for. I don't know. It was lopsided. It felt like the whole game. It just felt like. It felt like the LA Rams were a Steph Curry on a cold night shooting. Because they kept shooting. And you saw the hook up with with with with staffer didn't couple of receivers.

33:15He was put her early on and you thought it was going to be a game. But he never really got they never really got that rhythm on either side of the ball. Man, it's done. And coach Shanahan they they took it to they took it to the Rams last night. They took it to the Rams last night. I want to say one another thing too. Brock Purti was the best quarterback on the field last night. And it's something to be said about. You know, when you talk about all the accolades that mass staffer came in with and the fact that he was, you know, MVP last year and everything like that. The best quarterback on the field last night. Sure was Brock Purti. Okay. Any given Sunday. So what does that mean? Any given Sunday. No, and I just what it what it means is you have to appreciate what you have, man. Football is hard, Joe. Playing quarterback is hard. Hold on. It's a must win game and you're hitting me with football is hard. No, I'm saying it is. Man, it's hard. It's a hard game. And it was it's that. It's it's the beautiful thing. I'm not a part of it. Are you going to be finished?

34:15No. Beautiful thing about playing this game, man. No matter what. I mean, I would a whole lot of cliches today because it and plus I made a mistake and when I was cleaning out my notebook, I threw away my notes. You told me you took copious notes. I did, but what I did, I got to go get them out the trash because I miss you throughout your notes. You were so proud of your notes. I got to go get them. So we're off. We're going to get into this. This isn't all specific. Start everybody. Notes are gone. Because you see me flip through the bed. I'm like, damn it. I do the pages out. But anyway, my point is this. It's hard to play football, man. We have to appreciate what we have in our head coach. And our core way. Yeah, wonderful. I'll appreciate them. They win the game on Sunday. I mean, here's the thing. I'm just saying. I had an epiphany. Okay. Here's the thing for me. And I took notes. I'm so happy you took notes. And I'll be happier if the Eagles win this game. I said, which I expect them to do, by the way. This is good. Eagles are going to win the game. And I consider it a must win game. It's not a must win. It is. I mean, just don't see the path to a great season without winning this first game. They have, this schedule is not easy. I've said this. It's a day the schedule came out.

35:15This is one of the five easiest games in the schedule. To that point, I feel they get the commanders at a good time. The commander's offensive line is all banged up with that being said. I, I, I, I'm picking up what you put. Okay. Like I'm just, I'm, I'm, we can, it is. I mean, if we cut, listen, we come in here on Monday after a win, which I expect. Okay. We check the first box away. We go. Let's go take down the Titans 2 and 0. And we got a good cushion to start this season. If the other playing the plays out, which I don't even want to say out loud, but if they don't win this football game, it is a disaster. They are a far better roster, commanders. They have to win this football game. And I consider it a must win. I know that's not what we usually say about week one. There's a lot of time to recover. If the Eagles are going to be the team, we think they could be. It has to, I don't see any path that doesn't include a win over the commanders in week one. 215, 592, 94, 94. Klee, Shay, Doug, listen, week one. Hey, week one. Hey. Hey, the game is not played on paper. You know what this is? It's a Washington. You know what this is? This feels like it feels like a little bit. If you play a win the game. Greasing the skids if something goes wrong.

36:16Like, it's okay. It's not a lot of season. Like in a lot of season left next week. No, no, it's not that. It's that going into that game last night. The heavy favorites. I would say, you know, I know you say 4 1 1 2 points, but everybody felt with the dream team on the field. Miles Garrett, the fact that Shawn McVeigh, Coach McVay, brought him there right before the game started. It felt like that everybody thought that this was going to be a boat racing of the San Francisco 49ers. Man, they came out and they bludgeoned the ramp. Yeah, they kicked the rest. Yeah, they bludgeoned the ramps and they did it. They did it in the air and they did it on the ground. I will say though, by the betting line, the Eagles are a bigger favorite over the commanders than the Rams were over the 49ers. So like this is supposed to be even more of that. The only thing I'm saying is I know that if it doesn't go the way that we think it's going to go, it's going to all hills going to break loose. Yes, it is. And I get that part, but it's not the end of the world. It's not it's putting yourself. No, I disagree.

37:16No, I know you. You know where we are. No, I do know. That's why I'm here. Pop pop, Doug. Okay. All right. Two one. No, no, no, I'm excited. I'm not going to pop up. Yeah, two one five five nine two. Ninety four ninety four is this a must win game. You can give us your score predictions. Well, it's not some fun of the day. It's our first football Friday of the year. I think he goes, we're going to win this football game. And their defensive lines should dominate this commander's offensive line. And we should run the commanders out of the building on offense. That's how they win the game. They should win the game. It's a must win football game to start the year. Kyle, where do you come down? We got a must win week one. Yeah. And look, I understand that everybody's reaction to last night is like, well, the Rams, you know, like the lost one against the Niners. I don't know. It's, I think it's easier to justify the Rams losing to the 49ers last night. The Niners are good team. Of course. Right. That was a weird travel situation all that's off. And like the Rams are going to be fine. The Rams are probably, you know, one of the best rosters in the NFL. Ultimately, by the end of the season, they can still probably rip off 13 wins, 14 wins maybe. The Eagles, this could be the difference in 11 wins and 10 wins, which could cause them a playoff spot.

38:17And the commander stink, which is a huge part of this. And you're home at the link division opponent week one. Like, I don't know, that's a game you can't drop. The Rams can drop that against the Niners. The Niners are a good team and I get that's tough. Being in the division of the Niners are ripping off a lot of wins by the end of the season. That can end up being tough for the Rams. I get that. But like you look at the Niners and you're like, you know, they're solid. They look like a playoff team. The commanders are not. They look like a basement dweller to me. And I mean, do you know what it will be like here? Monday? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Well, then, then next week against the Titans is even more of a must win. You can't go Oh and two before you have to play freaking Chicago. Yeah. And I don't know. Like I, I cannot come, I cannot come in here Monday. Yeah. Talking about an Eagles. No, I don't have any path to the Eagles winning 11 12 football games. I, any, any math on it to me includes beating the commanders at home in week one. This is a must win football game. It gets this year started. It gets the bad taste that our math from last year. It takes down an opponent that's not very good. And I look at the schedule. I'm like, man, there are some tough games in their Chicago, the Rams, Jaguars in London.

39:20You know, we can go to the Cowboys will be tough games, right? They play the 49ers late in the year of San Francisco, the Texans, the sea ox. Those are all tougher, tougher games. I get that. But you got to, you got to beat up the bad ones like the commanders. Yeah, you're bad. You beat them because the bad. That's right. That's a must win. Yeah, but it's not a must win. Ooh. It's, it's a, it'll be bad if you lost. Well, I'd be, it's a must win. It's a must win. It's a must win. It'll be all bad if you lost. And I, when you, when we say that it's football time, it's like, it's almost like the world knew. Because I got up this morning, went to take gauge for a walk about 6.30 in the morning. And I walk outside and it was crisp and cool. And there was like, you know what I mean? I mean, it's almost like we say that last weekend is the final weekend of the summer. And this really felt like, at least this morning, it's eight degrees now. But this morning, it felt like the fall. So we do open up with an Eagles question for you.

40:20Here it is. 215, 59294, 94, 94. What is more likely for the Philadelphia Eagles this year? They miss the playoffs or they win the NFC and go to the Super Bowl. So what is more likely for the Eagles this year missing the playoffs or going to the Super Bowl? And it is crazy to go into a year where I feel like for the Eagles, at least league wide, they're not, they don't speak of the Eagles as like a favorite to come out of the NFC. There are a lot of questions with the Eagles. I think it's more likely they miss the playoffs than they win the NFC to be clear. They've had, and there are a bunch of reasons for it. First of all, clearly a downgrade and talent on offense. Now we hope that ends up working out overall, but not having AJ versus having AJ is a reason there. They have an entirely new offensive coaching staff who we hope is good, but at this point it's really just hope is good. There's clearly some question about what the quarterback can do within the new offense,

41:22especially when the head coach already admits that the old stuff wasn't working quite as well because the defense had answers for it. The rest of the division is better. Dallas is improved on defense, we'll have an awesome offense. We assume that the Giants will at least have some sort of competency this year that they haven't had in years past. I think when you're talking about going to the Super Bowl rather than just missing the playoffs, going to the Super Bowl will probably go through the Rams and the Rams got better. You look at the NFC and you try to figure out the playoffs and you feel like two of the three wildcard teams could come from the West. One of them could come from the North and there it is, this game over if the Eagles don't win the division, maybe they don't go to the playoffs at all. So if you gave me a choice what is more likely they missed the playoffs or they win the NFC, I think it's pretty clearly they missed the playoffs. Yeah, I think it's pretty clearly you would choose the Super Bowl and here's why the track record. And that's what you really have to go all for. I understand there may be some questions there from some.

42:22You stated that as if that's a universal question and it's valid when you talk about the offense, when you talk about the quarterback and all this other stuff and scoring points, here's what I do know. They rarely had the same offensive signal caller under this regime as yet to prevent them from playing in the postseason. That's a good point. And when they've been at their best, they've made the run to the Super Bowl. I'm not telling you that they should be the favorites to get to the Super Bowl. But when you say what's more likely to happen, then making the Super Bowl versus missing the playoffs, Nick Seriani and Jalen Hertz as a head coach quarterback, tandem, have yet to miss the playoffs in six years, five years, five years, five years. Five years, five years. This is six year. Okay, this is six year. Is Jalen's been illegal already six years, seven years.

43:25So it's more likely to me that they get into the postseason. Now here's why I think it's more likely they make a run to the Super Bowl. Because when I look at what's in front of them, there are just as many questions. Sure, the Rams seemingly have bought themselves a trip to the Super Bowl. Let's see how that works out. Let's see how that works out. That usually doesn't work out for teams. When you stack your team with star players trying to get over the hump, we'll see if that works out when you become the hunted and the national football league. You're going to get everyone's best shot. Who else were talking about Seattle? Yeah. Do we really think Seattle are going to repeat as champions? It's amazing that they even won the Super Bowl. Has there been a less celebrated Super Bowl champion in the history of the damn game? Then the Seattle Seahawks, maybe not since I don't know the giant. The giants may have been more celebrated than the Seahawks team is being celebrated right now.

44:25No one even respects the Seahawks as a champion. And when I say no one, I'm just speaking in a general term that they aren't getting the respect of a Super Bowl champion. Let alone somebody that's going to go back to the Super Bowl. What other team are we looking at? Green Bay, Chicago Detroit Detroit Dallas. The 49ers. I can't even say Dallas. Well, that's what a straight face. A team is won four playoff games, four spike four. Four playoff games in 30 years. I'm just saying they keep us out of the playoff. No, I'm just saying what's more likely to happen. The Eagles have the track record. They have the winning combination. They have the proven combination that says they play until late January with an opportunity to go to the Super Bowl. That's what they usually do. Missing the playoffs with this roster, with this much talent, with this, with the season that's they have on this team.

45:32With this defense. I don't even care about the new offense, right? You got the new offense. That's going to take time to get to where we ultimately feel comfortable about it. But this team has shown you that they have multiple ways of winning football games. And that's what you're going to get. And that's what the safe bet would say. The safe bet would say, I would bet on them being in a Super Bowl versus missing the playoffs. That's, I don't even see how he missed the playoffs. And that's just a bunch of injuries. Plays out wrong. I mean, the path to missing the playoffs is pretty easy. I mean, they could win 10 games and miss the playoffs. No, they could. Well, anything could have happened. Well, I'm just saying Dallas wins 11. You win 10. You end up with the, you know, the, the sea hawks and the Niners and the West making the playoffs and then the Bears and the Niner's are going to make the playoffs. Well, I'm just saying, you could see it. Niners have. You could see it happening. The Lions are soft. You know that. I know it. That's soft.

46:32Yeah. I'm just saying they can make the playoffs. Packers, I'll tell you the Packers. The Packers are one team that everybody continues to throw bouquets at. And I don't even get it. I see things about Jordan Love, this is the MVP candidate. And based on what? Well, I mean, how could he survive without Manion? I'm going to be 2155. I'm going to be 2155. I wouldn't beat the Cowboys two years ago. Like, that's the biggest win in his career. Like, what, like, what else? 2155, 592, 94, 94. What's more likely this season, the Eagles missed the playoffs or win the NFC? So today on the WIP afternoon show is as tradition. The first Friday of the football season isn't on the record Friday. And here's what we're looking for from you today. You got to give us the Eagles record this year. Where they go in the playoffs and give us one bold prediction for the season. Has to be Eagles related. 2155, 92, 94, 94.

47:32Ike, I will ask you, do you want to go first or do you want me to go first? Yeah, let me kick this thing. Oh, there he goes. He's getting me want this thing to start off right. So you let me go first. Yes. Listen, I've been going back. Get him all dog. I've been going back and forth. I've been going back and forth. All week as the where I should land on my final record for the team this year. And you know what, if you believe in something, you believe in it. Yes. But if you don't, you can't necessarily step out there. Yes. You don't want to step out there. Yeah, you don't want to just do it to do it. You got to believe it. Yeah. So I woke up this morning and I said, you know what, we don't do half stepping around here. Oh boy.

48:32I know half stepping. Okay. Big daddy came. Yes. I know half stepping around here. I got the egos at 13 and 4 this year. Oh my god. 13 and 4. I was thinking 12 and 5. You've been at 11 and 6. Yeah, but that's nonsense. Okay. That's nonsense. That's being conservative. Okay. I'm not saying that myself, let me give them a little bit of grace to fall back and falling to that. I, that's not where my actual belief is at. Okay. My belief is in this team that they may not get off to the start that we want them to get off to, but it's going to end up where we ultimately want it to end up. I'm going 13 and 4 because I look at the egos schedule. And sure, there are some rough spots in there where the egos might have to get through it. But if they can get through the first six weeks of this season, playing at the level, I expect them to and finishing with no less than a 4 and 2 record, but I think a 5 and 1 record.

49:37Wow. They're going to finish 13 and 4 like I anticipate them finishing and going into the playoffs, they're going to be the team you don't want to face and could be the team the beat based on what I saw last night. And here's why I say this. They're tested. They're tested. They're battle tested. They, they are used to heavy expectations year in and year out. And while it doesn't ultimately end up what we wanted to be every year, they are still a very good football team. And when this team is at its best, it's when people are doubting them. And that's what's happening this year. They finally get a year that they can fly under the radar to some degree because all the attention is elsewhere. Sure. And the NFC. And this is where the egos play their best football. This is where Jalen Hertz plays his best football. We have arguably the best defense in football.

50:40Can't wait to see them this year. I think our offensive line is going to be back to where we were in 2024. And I've said it time and time again. Our best player on offense is Sequan Barclay. And our offense should go through Sequan Barclay. And you set everything up off of the running game. And that's where this team is going to be at its best, staying true to its identity. Navigate the first few weeks of the season, meaning when the football games until you establish who you want to be and where you want to be. But ultimately, winning football games early matters the most. That's what this team has done the best. Spike has been two years. But we can bring the slogan back out. We're going to Pound Town. That's what we're going to do. That's what this team is going to do. Defense, run game.

51:40I got 13 and 4. You know why? Because the other teams in the NSC aren't the Eagles. They just aren't in so many different ways. They aren't the Eagles. The Eagles are the benchmark in the NFC. They proved that again this year. Okay. And then playoff prediction. I assume they're going to win the Super Bowl then. Is that what we're doing? Well, I got them in the Super Bowl. I got them in the Super Bowl. Because they're going to beat the Rams in NFC championship game. Okay. Whether it's here or in Los Angeles. Okay. We'll beat the Rams in NFC championship game. Okay. And I think the Eagles will take on the Buffalo Bills in the Super Bowl. Wow. Okay. All right. Do you have a bold prediction? I just gave you. I was going to say 13 and 4 is probably a goal. You want me to give you one for an individual player? Sure. Do you got one? I still got Bullets in the chain. Okay. Give me a bold prediction about a player. Give you a bold prediction about a player. I'm going to go with.

52:40Rick Wollin. We'll lead the team in interceptions this year. Okay. All right. Over J. Licks Hunt. All right. Okay. So now mine's going to sound like a big downer. But I don't mean it to you. That's why I'm supportive of me to go first. Okay. 215. It is on the record Friday. 215. 592. 94. Here's what we need from you. Eagles record this year. Where they go on the playoffs. And one bold prediction about the team. It can be about a player. But can't be about. They're going to go to the Super Bowl. It's got to be about something. There is a bold prediction. There is something. It is bold, but it's part of the other one. It's got to be something specific. Okay. I have the Eagles at 10 and 7. I have the Dallas Cowboys winning the division at 12 and 5. I also have Dak Prescott winning the MVP. So the Eagles make the playoffs at 10 and 7. But the story of the year will not be a negative one. In that, I believe for the first eight weeks of the season, the offense is going to be clunky and we're going to fight about it.

53:43But I believe in the Eagles persistence on keeping going, keeping working at it. And I think in the second half of the season, it will round into four. So I think the second half of the Eagles is going to be better than the first half. I think they get into the playoffs as a wildcard team. I think they will win the wildcard round in the playoffs and will lose the divisional round of the playoffs against the Seattle Seahawks. They will go to Seattle. They will lose against Seattle. That's how I think the season is going to end. Now, they've never won the first game and not gone to the Super Bowl with Jaylen and Nick. Right? It's how they're been lose in the wildcard round or go to the playoffs or go to the Super Bowl. However, even though we lose to Seattle, I don't think we will be, I think ultimately, after we digest that, we will feel more good than bad about this Eagle season. Because I think they will have progressed. But I see 10 and 7 and I see the Cowboys wrap the division. The match gets.

54:43Yes, sir. Oh, and my bowl prediction. Can I give you my bowl prediction? Yes. Moro Ojomo is going to play more snaps in Jordan Davis. It's pretty bold. Yeah. It's not, but okay. It's kind of bold. They just paid them $27 million. That's true. Yeah. I mean, it's moderately bold, I would say. Moderately bold. I'll say this. Yeah. It's good to see that that take of yours on the season is somewhat positive. Yes, it's not. Even though people may not like what they're here and ultimately 10 and 7, but winning a playoff game and getting into the second round isn't the worst thing in the world. No. We've either had catastrophe at the end of the year or a relation. Yeah. There is a world in between the two. And I think we could end up there. Okay. And that's, I like that. That's, that's, that's, it's a new spike. I like that. Well, listen, it, well, here's a thing. Give me an old Monday. Well, here's, well, exactly. That's my point. I'm feeling saucy. I have a question I'm asking all for when you're a prediction.

55:43Yes. Are you going to be able to stomach that? Yes. I'm going to be going to the seventh and having the vision of being better in the second half. Yes. And then winning a game in the post season says that you should have patience with the team early. Well, yeah. I mean, I said to have patience throughout the preseason. I just say that's what make sure you have patience. I just hope the team has as much patience as I do. Now, that doesn't mean I'm not going to freak out every one of those first eight weeks. I wanted to start the show off because it is rally and rose for day with the Eagles. And we will talk about a lot of Eagles stuff today. And there was a lot of... 56:44not allowed to be mad at me, that is the role today. And we'll talk about a lot of Eagles stuff today. But we know what we're really all wondering about. We are really... We can talk about everything, man. We can talk about it. It's Jay on. Carl is going to be good. We can talk about the new corner back. All this. We're wondering about one thing. And it's the offense and the passing game. That is the enormous question this year. That is where all the curiosity is. Of course, we care about the offensive line. How they look. Does Seikron still have it? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It is about the passing. That's really it. And I know people are going to kill me, which is why I want you to be nice, because we've done this show before. But I do think in this particular context, it might mean a little different. So what I am asking, Ike, and I'll give you my opinion first. You know where I'm going to be on this. We've talked about this before, but I do believe in this one. Is what would make you feel better about the rest of the season. For this game and this game only. I'm not saying I want this for every single game.

57:44But for this game and this game only, it would make me feel better about the rest of the season. The Eagles lost, let's say, 37-34. But the offense was cooking. And Jalen was bing, bing, bing, bing, bing, bing. Like all the things that all the doubters and all the haters said he couldn't do, he was doing them. And the Eagles lose in a shootout. They lose 37-34, but the offense is cooking. Sean Mani is calling the right plays. Jalen over the middle. This, that, bing, bing, bing, bing, bing, bing. Over a win. Yet in this case, I'm talking about what would I feel better for the rest of the season over a win in which they win 13-10. And the offense looks clunky. And we got to argue about it on Monday. I think the optimism I would have for the season because I would feel like the defense is eventually going to get it together. But a lot of questions answered about the offense. I think quieting the haters for Jalen Hertz. I think, you know, after losing AJ Brown, the questions about the ride received record.

58:45I think all the questions about Sean Manion first time play caller, if those questions feel like, I know they wouldn't be answered after one game. But we would certainly have a clue. I would take the loss to watch the offense play like that on Sunday. Over a win where the offense looks terrible. Yeah, I don't know what to do with that, man. That's, um, you would not. Of course not. Of course not. Of course not. I don't think any. Same person would. Because winning is what ultimately matters. No matter how many times I say this, winning the football game is what ultimately matters. And this is a defensive oriented team. And honestly, I feel, I feel, I feel for you, I feel for you. I feel for you and people like you. You feel for me. I do. I do because you can't. You can't enjoy the game. And the result with just the Eagles winning. Like it has to look a certain way for you.

59:47And I get that. You are alone. I think the Eagles maybe guilty of this themselves a little bit. I think it's not crazy. They don't want to lose. But I don't want to be. I never want to be fixated on. That is a luxury. That is a luxury. Winning the games or what always matters. The defense is the strength of this team. And if they were to win 13 to 10, I'll tell you what, you're right. We would debate the next day. And I get all of that. But if that's a smothering defense and there's turnovers there, there's sacks there, that's what I expect to happen. Given up 37 points to the Washington commanders in the first week with this defense, I'd be concerned. That they're going to be issues with the defense this year. And the offense may put up 34 points just because Washington's defense is old and decrepit. And nobody else having any real playmakers over there. But our strength of our team, not playing well and getting gone through like a hot knife with the butter. I don't want to see that. So I'm a little. My mind is built a little different.

1:00:48And I'm not. I'm not telling you that I wouldn't find. Solace in 37 to four. 34. Yes, I'm not telling you that I wouldn't be like, well, the world is in falling. Right? Like at least they scored some points and Jalen a good. I'd be okay with that, but losing the Washington in a shootout week one. That's still a loss when I have a bigger goal in mind. And these wins are the wins that we're supposed to have. We got to put them in our pocket. You got to beat the Washington's at home. You got to go on a road and beat Tennessee. You got too many other tough games that you're going to have to fight to the nail for. You start giving away games to teams that are inferior to you. You're going to be looking at 10 and seven and wow, card and possibly not getting in at the end of the year and all that for the sake of the offense looking better when I know the offense eventually is going to look better. Well, you don't know that. Yes, you have to lie. Yeah, no, I do know that. No, I don't know if it's going to be top five. That's different. That's different. See, your bar is so high.
