Welcome back. Good day, show you Douglas. Joe chili, you guys with us, 215-592-94, 94 opening week on WIP presented by Handsfree Sketch for Slippins. Just step in and go, the Eagles go on Sunday, and it is a must win football game in my mind. To get this season off to the right start, a great discreet when you come down, you're take on the game. We'll get back to everyone's phone calls on the Eagles here in a second, but here are a quick couple minutes on the fills. So we were there yesterday, you know, doing the leading offense of the game, we thought about what the stakes were, right? They go to Atlanta tonight, so they came into yesterday, three games back. Atlanta was playing at the same time. You know, if the fillers had won yesterday, they would have guaranteed themselves to stay at least within three games, right? If Atlanta had lost two, maybe it could have been down to two. Instead, you know, the double whammy happened. Phillies lose, Braves win. So now the lead for the Braves before this weekend is back to four, that hurts. But yesterday, for me was a really frustrating win, not just because they lost a game two to one, but you, they reverted yesterday. We talked all month of August how the Phillies had stopped
chasing as much, right? They had better at bats. Yeah. So yesterday against Christian Javier, which gave, you know, brought back, you know, weird feelings back to the No Hitter in the 2022 World Series, but against Christian Javier and the Astros yesterday, the Phillies saw 65 pitches out of the strike zone. They swung at more of them than they took. In the whole time that Chase Raid has been tracked in the last, last 17 years or so, it is the highest Chase Raid the Phillies have had in a game since 2009. Like think about that for a second. We know this team chases a lot. They do it in the playoffs. We talk about it all the time. Yesterday was the worst day they had chasing pictures out of the zone in 17 years. Who that felt like they reverted to what they are, we don't want them to do, and they didn't do the whole month August yesterday. And it just was not a good series against the Astros, disappointing yesterday. Yeah, and you can't have that. You know, we were talking about the other day, and I always said, well, the last couple weeks I've been saying, be with your feet are. Yeah. To have the kind of moments where you had where it looked like you weren't chasing into revert to that at this time
is not a good feeling for Phillies fans knowing that going into the postseason, we've had a problem with that. We've had a problem with Kat's trying to play hero ball. Of course, and you know, I mean, look, the good teams, good pitchers are going to look at what they did yesterday and say we're going to do that exact thing to them in the biggest moment. It was very disappointing. Can we hear Bryce Harper after the game yesterday talking about the chase? And is it a problem or a bad day? I think we'll be okay. You know, I really do. I don't see us, you know, going backwards in those situations or anything else. I think we'll be fine, obviously. You know, we got to do it. And if we don't, then it's going to look as like a dead, you know, the last couple years. So, but, you know, I think you've done a good job, you know, over a course of, you know, 35, 40 games. So, I think we should stay with them, you know, within that. They did. I mean, they had a good run. I mean, August was great. This was not a good homestand though.
That this yesterday was the worst one of them. But it felt like they started to revert a little bit off. So, they have to get that corrected. And they wasted a good adding by Zach Wheeler. Zach Wheeler kind of gutted through that thing. Got out of a lot of trouble yesterday to keep the, you know, keep the Astros to once, one run and seven innings. Good start by him with nice strikeouts, but disappointing. And it makes the task to try to go catch the braves very hard. I mean, that to lose the game yesterday, this is the point. Well, Scott Fransky coming up at noon with us. We'll talk to Scott about the series coming up. And where the fills are. That's coming up at 12 today. All right. Let's go back to the phone lines. Demand in Delco is up on WIP. Demand. Yeah, yeah. Good morning. Good morning. What's up, Dave? I don't know. Good morning. What's up? What are you thinking? Yeah. What's up, my partner? What's going on, man? How you doing today? How many times are you going to ask us what's up? Three times. You, you, you, but I called the mess with Joe J. OK, what do you do? Remember Joe, you remember what you said to me last week, right? We could for last. We send all summer all year. That Matthew, staffer, what to do?
Drake, May, right? These dudes are the name all the time. They better than Jalen, right? And I kept telling you, don't the moment, but you always says don't the moment. The great moments when we need our guy, he comes through. I watch Drake, May, so like an umbrella under pressure. Yeah. Like you always did. Last year was a fluke for them. They had the easiest schedule in the whole NFL, Joe. Yeah. The whole NFL. And you believe he'd better than my guy? Well, he was better last year by a lot, Devon. I mean, without question, he was way better last season. As far as the game on Wednesday, he was bad on Wednesday, Devon. And I think there is a fair question. What's that? Who did he play last year, Joe? Remember, he had to eat his head. Sure. He was supposed to be better. Well, I don't think anyone thought he would be second MVP. But yeah, I mean, I agree with you. I thought the schedule was easy last year. Oh, that's not it. He was bad on Wednesday. I said that a lot yesterday. He was terrible in that game. So, yeah, we'll see where his season goes, but a bad star for Drake, May, I agree with
you on that. Terrible. All right. Now, how about you other guy last night? What about him? Matthew Stafford, the guy who can't move a lick. But Devon. Devon. Do you know what hurts is not as good as Matthew Stafford. I mean, we could have the conversation on Megas May, did it once? I mean, come on. I mean, Matthew Stafford is a better player. According to you, now, now, I can get my point across. Yes. Of course. Yes. Of course. This one look good. According to everyone, right? And according to everyone, but according to you, right? Stats matter, right? So, Matthew Stafford only got his joy in everything when he got to the rent. Prior to that, he threw the ball a million times. He were mommy of Jew Blitzel with some ways, right? He threw the ball. He got it out of his hands. He threw it out of the ball. Devon, meaning that he's better than Jaylin. Jaylin got more accomplishment than he got. If you ask me, believe it or me, he's a better quarterback. If I say I want right now today, Matthew Stafford or Jaylin, I'm going to take Jaylin because Jaylin can get out the way he can run. He's much younger and he can evolve. He's been alive. He showed up there each and every time. Matthew Stafford was the MVP of the league last year, the league.
And he couldn't move. He could move. So what does that mean? So what? He couldn't move. Tom Brady couldn't move. Who cares? Yeah. Yeah, but look at him this year. He threw three interceptions. Jaylin wanted to do that in that moment. Stafford and Trich picks last night. Stafford and Trich picked last night. Did he? No. He got one. Yeah. I think it was one. Yeah. Where do he was one? Well, he should have threw two more because he was reckless out there. He was reckless. One undersepsion. It was reckless. Devon, could you, can Jaylin play well like one time before we try to have this debate? Are we are we not like prepared for like what? What if he has a bad game saw that? Also, he didn't play well on game. He didn't play well last season. Well, it's crazy. There's a thing, Joe. I believe that he will play somewhat mediocre the first couple of games because he has to get used to the offense. But I'm telling you, my mid season, when I call you out of six and eight weeks, I don't want to hear nothing, Joe. Well, don't want to hear anything. But to my, and no, here's what here's what you're going to hear. If he's playing as well as those guys or better, I'll say that. And if he's not, I will say that too. Like, this isn't like who want to say that?
But to my. D'Aman, I don't know why this is so hard for everyone. Oh, I like, again, I, and D'Aman, we appreciate the phone call. I know we weren't doing this show then, but in 2022, I thought Jalen was the top five player in the NFL. I said he should have won the MVP or he would have if he didn't get hurt. If Jalen plays at a high level, I'll say he played at a high level. Like we don't, I don't just sit here and say he's not good. And if he plays well, I still say that. Just like, like, it feels like with everyone else, if he doesn't play well, you just decided he's good and his play doesn't matter. Every week the play matters. We are at peak Jalen hurts in security. Do these people know what kind of can of worms you open by reacting like this to one game? To game one to both May and Stafford. Now it's I was told this. I was told that, could you imagine if we came in on Sunday or Monday and Jalen hurts was, you know, whatever. He doesn't have a good game. He similar Stafford numbers, right? 155 yards. No touchdowns. One underception. And we're sitting here going. I told you, Jalen can't run this offense. Yeah. What kind of a reaction would we get? Well, it's too. Really.
It's one game. It's one game. It's one game. Now the main thing, if you want to say the jury's still out because May is still young, they had an easy schedule. I think that is fair. And he did not play well in the postseason last year. I think there's, that's fair. The Stafford thing. I mean, guys, I mean, here two weeks ago, Daniel Aloffze is on TV saying if Stafford wins on a street voice, it's top five to seven quarterback ever. Now we, we disagreed with that, but the fact that that is even a conversation means the guy's pretty good, right? Like that someone could say he's, he's close to the upper echelon of all timers is like, well, he's obviously good. Well, by the way, a lot of the focus is on the quarterback that, that lost and played badly. Yeah. What about the other one? No one has anything to say about Brock Pertie. No. Well, all right, because he played well. Well, right. I just, you know, but like we get the, I was told this guy is better than Jalen, but like, do we now using the same logic? I was told Jalen was better than Brock Pertie. Well, on those lists this summer, the most than had Pertie, it had a hurts. I just, I could say I told myself it's one game.
I guys, you, people are nuts. Well, that's why they need to win the game on Sunday. It's Sunday. It's one game that's a must win. It is absolutely a must win game. Let's, let's go to Jeff and Wilmington. Jeff. Joe, what happens if Jalen balls out on Sunday and we lose? What are you going to do that? There's no easy way. I love the way you said like, what are you going to do? Well, I'm not going to do anything. I'm going to sit here and talk about it. I'll be disappointed. They lost the game and think it's a really big deal for the season, but I'll be happy Jalen playing well. I mean, I would be more disappointed if they lose because it's the commanders. Me too. I don't think it's a, it's a must win game. Yes, because you don't want to lose to the division team early in the season. And yeah, could it come back to bite you in the butt later on possibly? But there's, there's no way they're going to lose this game. I, Jeff, I agree with you. I mean, to me, it's one of the four or five easiest games on the schedule. I mean, like you go to the Arizona, you know, you go late in the season, there's a couple
games and they're like, all right, they should win that one. Indianapolis at home. You know, there's some, some softer spots, but if I'm drawn up a list of the easiest games, this is on it. So that's why to me, it's, it's absolutely a must win. Yeah. In that sense, yes, it is because you cannot afford to lose the games you're supposed to win. Right. And the NFL, that's just, you can't do it. And you know what I'm saying? Yeah, that's totally agree with that. That's why I say it's a must win on that, on that tip. Yeah. As far as the overall season, I mean, are we just going to just shut it down after Sunday if they lose? No, we're going to be super mad. No, but I will say this. Yeah, we're going to be on our, we're going to be in our fill. Listen, guys, I'm not shutting it down. And obviously there's, there's months and months and months and months to go. But I don't, the path to 11 wins includes this game. Right. It does. Yeah. So that's, I mean, so I think you're not, Jeff good phone. I think we see it similar. I mean, it's, it's, it's hard to say it. It's why I think it's hard for people to say it out loud because you don't want to, what
do you mean? Like, what if they don't win, right? I must win. But they need to win this football game. Joe, I get exactly where you're coming from and, and, and to be, be honest, I'm being logical, but football season about to start. So nobody's being logical. So I think a lot of people are, I pick up what you're putting down because if you lose this game, it's going to be all the questions that we have about offense things, capital, not capital, but, uh, man, still comfortable. Yeah. Well, no, that's what I'm saying. It's, it's going to be, we're going to be going to be one of, man and right guy for the job. Yep. We're going to be one of them. If Jayland's the right guy for the job, what's going on with the office? Like there's going to be a whole lot of questions. We're going to overreact to this game. And that's the natural response to it. But when you talk about the path that the Eagles are on, they're still in a good space. It just won't feel good because you know, when you look at this team and you look at the convent doors, we don't feel like you went, we're not in the same call to say that's exactly the same. Exactly. Exactly. If you take an ill, I get why you upset. Yeah. Definitely get why you a must win our two one five five nine two ninety four nine four.
We'll get to last night along with your calls on the birds for Sunday. Is it a must win game? I will, uh, well, I hear from Sean McVeigh. I'll give my official statement on my prediction gone wrong 12 hours after I made it. Bull prediction yesterday. And you Douglas told us he took a ton of notes on the game. So we'll roll. We'll roll through those next on the midday. So it's for it's radio. 94 WIP. This is why I do my read. Hey, people, you know, I like my bourbon. And I mean, I like some good bourbon. My bourbon of choice is not other than Woodford Reserve, the official bourbon of the Kentucky Derby. And this month, we are celebrating national bourbon hair to his month. Trust me, if you're going to honor America spirit, you have to get, get out and get it right. You got to get to do it right. Folks, it's America spirit. And trust me, if you're going to honor it, you better honor it with an elite glass of craft is still whiskey on the planet. The best craft is to go to still whiskey on the planet because a month, this big deserve a bourbon is good. And what I'm talking about is Woodford Reserve. Right now at your local fine wine and good spirit stores, Woodford Reserve, 750 bottles are $2 off. And that's just not for the classic straight bourbon.
The deep rich double oak and spicy Woodford Reserve, right, 750s are also $2 off. Whether you crave a smooth, well-fashioned or preferred neat, head to the fine wine and good spirit stores today to elevate your home bar. National bourbon hair to his month and Woodford Reserve, celebrate responsibly. It was bow, dog. It was bow. We had 12 hours, folks. Yeah, you have a time. Well, hours. Yeah, that one went upside down. Welcome back. It is the mid-day show. Hugh Douglas, show Julia. I did say 1115. I would have an official statement. So listen, here's the deal. This side, dog. No, listen, I just want to say this. I mean, I was wrong. Dead wrong. Not, and it's so wrong that I got new halfway through the game. I was like, man, this thing went belly up. It wasn't even a contest the second half. I will say though, much like when I revealed something that I was privately thinking last year about Tanner McKee, I thought it was a safe space. I thought a bold prediction segment is supposed to be bold. And I thought, you know, it happens, right? You make a bold prediction, it goes bad. You kind of move on.
But I obviously people are hanging on it. So, I mean, you guys are right. I was wrong. The Rams probably a little over hyped. 20 and O was a little bit. It was lofty. It was a little lofty, and now they're own one. I still think they're going to end up a quite a good team and quite a great team and be in the mix with a certain ball. But last night, they got their ass kicked. I will take the L. They got dry ass. Yep. Do you think it was worse than your Bryce Hough prediction a few years ago? Oh, we do. That's what we're doing. So you got a bad prediction. Now you want to bring it back to me? Well, yours was a great one. I mean, it's one that we saw as those legs years later. Is it worse? Uh, yeah. It is. I don't think so. It was hyperbiosal, super hyperbolic. At least mine was based in some kind of, you know, there was a chance. Not a shot. Chance. Wait a minute. I saw that at 10-sacks when he was with the Jets. But a lot of guys have 10-sacks. Yeah. I mean, but you know, how I was 10? How I was 10 was special. He came from Memphis. What? Nobody cares. Again. You're only in Memphis. You're just going to sing. No, no, no, no, no. We're not letting you sing through the things that are about to start.
All right. I'm excited about the price. I'm excited about the price. Well, this is the rate. I have to do with anything. Okay, I made a mistake. Okay. But that was last year. Let's talk about Joe's mistake. It was a huge mistake. Yeah. Why did you just address mine? It was crazy. It was too huge. It was a huge L. Big L. Let's hear Sean McVay. He took the first place. I mean, he took the L. I just predicted they win a lot of games. Sean McVay last night in Australia after he took his team there like 24 hours before the game, then they got their ass kicked. Let's hear what the head coach threw out of sight. Here before you give your takes, then they get a lot of notes less. I actually want to steal some McVay statement there and apply it to my prediction that they go undefeated. It's good. It was a humbling day for me yesterday that I made that prediction. So it will define me only if I allow it to. So the yesterday's ball prediction that the Rams will go undefeated the season is not going to define me here because I'm not going to allow it to define any of my predictions. You know what I heard? Even the bad ones. You know what I heard when I heard him talking? What did you hear? I heard a guy who tried to cover every question that was going to be asked to him in one
shot. I agree. That so that he wouldn't have to be asked the questions. Let me tell you the first thing that jumped into my head when I saw the Rams get dragged all of them out. They got dragged and being physically dominated because let me tell you what I saw. Coach Anne had made a statement yesterday. You know, because they went there a week early and they were chilling. They said, oh, and the Rams say, oh, you know, we data tells us we're going to get there the day before and stay there two days and yada yada yada. They said, okay, we about to beat y'all up. And that was the game plan. When you talk about, I think it was called the WAM, the WAM block with the full back, like it brought me, gave me PTSD because I remember that when that full back going motion and he get that full head of steam. You hit that line. You just knew it was only a matter of time before that takes his toll. And then when the second half started and you kept seeing him doing it and you started seeing you used to call it moving the crowd, that office alliance, you are moving the crowd.
That was old school football right there. It was good to see, especially when you talk about the researchers on a running backs this year, you talk about the full back trying to make a comeback, even though you know, it ain't too many of them in the league. The ones that are in the league, man, there's some hammers. There's some hammers in the league. Alright, a few things, you know, I know you took some notes. I got, I had some things I wanted to get your thoughts on from that game and now I'm kind of spinning it how it pertains to the Eagles. You know, the Rams don't play in the preseason. They look tired and sluggish. Now, some of that might have been the way they traveled. I don't know. I mean, I don't know the science behind all of it. I do wonder though, Hugh, if the league has gone too far one way and you know, we'll see how the Eagles play Sunday, right? They didn't play any of their starters in the preseason, but didn't it seem like the Rams starters weren't prepared for a full game physically? They were, they looked tired by the end of the game. Mmm, they did. They looked beat up. Yeah. They got, they got out physical. Now, you know, for T, make a coward out of you. Now, that's another cliche I'm hitchhiking with today. Oh great. He's hard to talk with.
But where's the counter at now? 12. What's that? Yeah, that's my. We should have the cliche counter here. That's great. But I'm saying it does, man, and, and, and you could tell the momentum switch. And you know what else was more egregious than that? Was the coach. That's why I said you should apologize to Nick Sianani because he gave up. He gave up, man. Well, why would I apologize to Nick? Because, because, because we all talk about, was not involved in that. Can I finish? No. Nick wasn't involved last night. Can I finish? No, no, no, no, no, no. Who should apologize to Syria? You. Why? Because, what did I say about Nick lately? I just feel like you should, because you about to say something bad about you two, Kyle, while we at it. You know what, I feel like you should apologize to me. You're really too, appreciate it. And you know what else? Look at my copious nose here. I appreciate it. I appreciate it. Nick, you're crazy. Let me, let me, let me, uh-huh. Appreciate your quarterback skill set. That's what I, that's what I came over with. What does that have to do with last night? Why? I was thinking of, let me ask you a question. You know what, everyone wants so desperately for last night to be some sort of referendum on the Eagles. No. It's not, guys. Okay. No, I don't think, Sean McVay, for all the accolades that he get for being a smart head coach
and then, I'm, I'm a titan in the Xerianne. We always say that, that, that he's a smart, like he's smarter than coach Syrianne. Well, I think he is. I don't think so. I don't think so. In the biggest of mine. The biggest thing that he did was the travel, bubble head thing he did with travel. Make it to team there, time to get them. They, they made them a spake. They look, they look washed. I will, I will offer this up. I think we all agree the Rams are probably going to be fine this year. No, they're going to be fine. But a little bit of an older team. Yeah. Well, I mean, eventually Stafford's not going to play it as MVP level. He played bad last night. I mean, you know, Miles Garrett's not old, but he knows bringing you. He knows bringing you. You know, the whole Iron Donut thing's exciting. But the man's a couple years out of the league. Like, he didn't retire early. There's more questions about them than I think that we're given. Yeah. Well, so all right. So let me ask you a question. Was last night a good night for the Eagles? As far as, uh, no, the outcome. I don't think it was that. I think because the, the, that was a loss I gave to the Niners before the season. That now they have an extra win.
I didn't expect. Yeah, T. We're for air one of them. Like he, is that, is that a takeaway for less than nine years better than we thought? Yeah, Joey, both, I think both of which ever, which ever one of them. So if we're going to make any grand assumptions off of last night, I think everyone knew penciled in the Rams and the Seahawks as, as contending teams, we went at the fight for a playoffs, pot with the Niners were a question mark. But now I think, you know, again, if we're making grand assumptions off of last night, that's another team we now have to worry about in the end of the day. I kind of thought of them as nine or 10 wins. Now, maybe they're at 11. They just took a game last night from a team that I didn't think they beat. So that's that, uh, one more thing you I had. I'm not sure if this and your notes are not. Was that. So the, the offense as we watched last night, we, we are thinking starting Sunday. We started to see something similar in terms of style, right from the Eagles. That's the tree that Manian came from. We, what, let's choose Pertie because he played well. Stafford did not last night. Do you think, Jalen can get to a point where he gets the ball out of his hands as quick as Pertie did last night? Cause Pertie was, Pertie was slinging it. Pertie played well, but what caught me about him, not just that he played well because he's had a lot of good games. It's how quick it's like, bam, bam.
They had this, they had to stand on the screen at 1.2 seconds. He was getting rid of the ball. Yeah. Uh, uh, uh, no. I'm just gonna hit just quick starting and just say, that's a unique skill set. Cause we were talking about it this morning. Now, that's where, that's where I said, I appreciate your quarterback skill set comes in. That's where for us, I feel like we're going to run a lot of roll outs. Mm hmm. Cause that allows Jalen time to see the plays develop and it also gives him an outlet. So no, because when you talk about Brock, Pertie, by Pertie throwing, you know, when Brock Pertie threw that pick, Joe, he threw it because he didn't put enough mustard on that hot dog. Like when he threw that ball, it was a good throw, but he didn't anticipate the, the defender dropping back deep in the covers because he had nobody in his zone. He had a layer at over. Yeah. He had nobody was in his zone and you're taught that when you're in a zone, just keep dropping. Like if nobody's in your area, right? Just keep dropping. Get depth. Cause you know, it might something, anything can happen. So just get depth. So whatever the quarterback does, you can see it.
And what happened was, dude kept getting depth. He put it up. He didn't, he didn't zip it in there enough. And he said, you saw when he said, hey, that's my bad. But guess what he did? He kept throwing that thing. He kept throwing that thing. And I'm like, man, Brock Pertie today looked better than Matt. Now Matt Stafford has some missiles that he threw, but on a consistent basis, yeah, Pertie was better. Brock Pertie was a better quarterback. Now I will, I'll meet you in the middle on one thing. Cause you said appreciate the skill set, right, Jalen? For one thing that the Rams could not do last night, we do, I think, take for granted with which Jalen and the Eagles, the goal line, right? Like Stafford got stopped at the, Jalen doesn't get stopped there. The Eagles don't get stopped on the half yard line on fourth in an inch. The two is pushed, right? But that, I thought the game ended on that plague. It felt like the momentum switched. It was 17. I think, and the Rams were about to go in 17. 14. That's a different game if it's three point game. And they got stopped. Niners went right down the field. It's 24. Seven. It's, it's over. Quarterback can do that right now. And every offense has that, that short yardage, like automatic thing in there.
And, and the Eagles for years now with Jalen have been incredible. And a 215, 592, 94 94. Is this a must win game for the Eagles on Sunday? To me, it absolutely is. And of course you can react to last night. The fills as well who start a series in Atlanta tonight. John in Alentown is up on WIP. John. John. What's up guys? Hey John. Hey, you know, 911. You know where I was on 911. Where were you? I was in New York City picking up records from the Playboy office. I was, I came out of there and I'm going down the turn plate coming out out of there. And I saw the smoke coming from the buildings. I'd never been so scared by life. Now it was about 90 miles an hour down the knee to the turn plate. John, I can't, I can't only imagine that. I mean, every day, you know, every year on this time, we hear different stories like that. And for the people like you that are either in the city or close to it, I mean, it's just, I mean, it's terrifying for the rest of us just even, even in an hour away.
I mean, it's just, it's the scariest day we've had as Americans in our lives. And my buddy didn't get out of the city because he was in there later to me and he had the park, the truck and neighborhood and walked across the bridge. Oh my goodness. They get out of it. Well, the part that made it so, it was so bright out and it was so unreal. I'm like, what? And then I was listening to the radio and they're like describing what happened. I was a coldly smoke. Yeah. Well, the part that made it so hard for some of the people is, it just was a different time with communication, right? Like not every cell phones were still, you know, some people had them, but not many. So if you had someone near that area, you know, you didn't know until they got to a phone until they could contact you. It's just, it was, it was terrifying, John, for sure. It was unreal. So anyway, yeah, guys tomorrow, I mean, Sunday must win. I'm going to, and I'm going to tell you why it's a must win because if they don't win this game, the people who hate jail and are going to come out of the woods and hate
serianare like, oh, they see they, they stink. They stink. So they really got to win this game because I don't want to hear that on Monday. You know, it's actually a really good point. Yeah, it is. Given the overreaction that we've gotten from those first two games, like we, but you guys not, everybody, not only better pray that we win, but that hurts. Looks good, especially after, after everything that we just heard. Like they, they have to win and now he has to look good. Yeah. And John, I agree with you. I also, it gives them a cushion because you know, I think there's, we all think there's going to be a transition. But if they can, if they can get a win on Sunday and they should get a win next week because Tennessee is one of the worst teams in football. Like, two and O is a nice cushion. That way, if they have, you know, some rocky points, they have those two wins in their back pocket. We need these. And I, I expect them to win, but I expected not to look pretty, especially in the first half. I expect the defense to keep things in control. I don't expect to see that offense really get going or get any traction until the second half. And I expect them to win the game.
And it's going to be ugly just like the games this week. Yeah, it really, yeah. I mean, both games have been, they did. And they, I was impressed with the way they ran the ball on them. John, John, good phone call. Here, the other thing, as we talked about the game last night, though it was interesting. And I wonder if, I wonder if we'll see any of this with the Eagles with Seikwan and Tank. Did you notice how often last night Shanahan used his other back? I think his last name is Black, the rookie at Indiana. Yeah. And now, maybe that was just a game plan thing. Maybe it's a strategy to keep the cafe a little healthier because he's getting older off a lot of touches. But that in the past with the Niners, every carry went to McCaffrey, right? Every carry. And we know he's had some great years. He's also had some injuries. He'll last night, they used their second back and it made me wonder if the Eagles will do something similar with Tank. I think they will. I think they will because what it does and it's weird, right? Because change, just changing the running backs and still running the same place, it changes the pace of the game. And the perfect example that I always give is be Mitch.
Be Mitch when he was back there, man. It was difficult. I think it was what Stephen Davis. Stephen Davis was a bigger back. Yeah. And we were tattooing. I remember one year we went down in, I think it was a 98. We were tattooing him. And when Be Mitch came in the game, just that vision, Be Mitch has, when he played, he had vision to see what a holes were going to be. And to have that change of pace back out there, man, we were beating them. They give you an example. We were beating them. He comes into the game and his versatility, they get back in the game and they end up winning the game. So last night McCaffrey had 10 carries for 68 yards, 6.8 to pop. I mean, he was, he was obviously very productive when he got the ball, but only 10 carries. He got five receptions. He always gets a lot of receptions. He were 15 touches. And McCaffrey's, McCaffrey's had a lot of years where it's in that 20s, right? 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25. Yeah. Look, this might have just been one game. It's the first game of the year. Maybe ease in him. I wonder that. I wonder if the Eagles, if they saw that or their own plans, like, hey, instead of 23 for
sake one, maybe we keep him fresh, he would 15 and he's better in his 15. Well, it's this too. You keep your backs fresh, so you get better downs from both backs. And they did. And not only that, Joe, it's funny because even I haven't played it like 20 some years, but you see the momentum change and it happened at the half. And they came off at halftime and they just started pounding the rock. It was just like, and you start seeing, just notice people, when you watch football, how how stout defensive lineman look at the point of attack at the beginning of the game, and opposed to how they look at halftime when they're getting blown off the ball. And that like you're just holding on for their life. Wear them out. Yeah, you see guys getting that because they say, what they call it, what they call it, when you get double team off line, get skinny. So you try to turn, right? You try to turn your shoulders. So that you won't get blown off the ball. You still getting manhand them, but you're not giving up any ground. You're allowing the line backers to escape scraping everything, but you're not getting
blown off the ball because you're getting blown off the ball. That's that's bad film right there. Well, of course, that's what getting like in the middle, in the teeth of that defense. Man, it was, it was, it was all clogged up in the middle. Well, and I think this, this Sunday, and why I think the Eagles are going to win the game because they're two lines. Their defensive line should dominate the commander's offensive line. And as the game goes on, we should wear them out and run the ball down their throat. That's how the Eagles need to win this game Sunday and they should. And it's a must win. Aaron in San Diego is up on WIP. Aaron. Good morning, Philadelphia. Good morning, Aaron on a football Friday. What's up? You, you Douglas. How are you, my friend? I'm good, man. How you doing? I'm doing great. It is the beginning. It is Friday. We got two days. It's exciting stuff. Kyle, my good friend Quinn, how are you today? Me? He's just a... He's a caller. He's easy, easy. He's easy.
There's a sublibional message right there, but anyway, hey, and then Joe Gileo. So your Rams fandom is literally like oozing out of your poor. On the Rams fandom. That prediction yesterday was as bad as ESP saying that the Patriots were a super bowl team. I mean, that just... Well, hold on a second. Really, really. No, I don't want to hold on. Mine is worse because the Patriots were in the server bowl, right? So undefeated seasons don't happen very often, right? Patriots, dolphins. So mine is worse. It's more unlikely. Second, I could think a team is good without being a fan. Like, I picked the Dodgers to win the World Series most years. Does it mean I'm a Dodgers fan? Dude, you're like right now though. You're really in like a situation where like a must win this Sunday. I mean, come on, let's set our expectations to be realistic, okay? We have a new... It's unrealistic. It's like winning a match.
You didn't like it because the wine coach. Yeah, you're... No, we... Aaron, we have the Sky Martial. What are you talking about? The standard is the standard. Can I... No. Can I continue with my thing? Everybody else needs a tie. Here's the stupid one. You're thinking stupid. You're never going to get the visa. Aaron, don't be surprised if this team goes two and two or one and three in the first four games, okay? But here's the facts, okay? The Phillies are who we thought they were. Let's put them in the cabinet. The soap opera known as the Philadelphia 76ers has not yet begun. This is a horrendous vote called. What are you talking about? It is time for the one thing that is pure in our lives, that is true in our lives, that as sports fans, we can have confidence in three Super Bowls in the last ten years. Two Lamberti trophies, one Super Bowl MVP, Jalenites, now-n-up.
The Sky Marshall, Quadzilla, the Monsters of Broad Street, Jalen, I'm a bad man, Carter, Gordon Big Country Davis, Quintur, Lopez, and Coupe are about to take flight on the commanders, okay? And once they get this locomotive finally tuned and running on all cylinders, oh, peace of pride. We go on at nine, ten, a letting-game win streak. Bless America, God bless the E-A-C-L-E-S-I-O-S. Let's go. Let's need Daniel's premiere game. Let's go. All right, Aaron, we appreciate the phone call. How do we grade Aaron's call that time? That was awful. One of his worst. Pretty good. No, I'm saying that. The Phillies and the Sixers have no standards. Well, first of all, this guy lowering the bar to and to when all we heard all of season was the best quarterback on planet earth, the history of planet earth, but we can't even
expect from the beat the Washington command. Does anyone understand math, guys? If you think there's a chance they go two and two, which of the two are they going to win? Which of the two are the four, guys? This is one of the ones they should win. They're at home. They're one of the biggest favorites of the week. How are they getting to two and two without this one being part of it? Is anyone using their brains? This is a must-win football game on Sunday, two, two, one, five, five, nine, two, ninety four, ninety four. Just a few Douglass is lower in the bar. Does it mean you have to? I'm just being realistic about this. No, realistically, they need to win this football game. They don't need, they should win this football game. Well, should end it. But it's not the end of the world. Well, that disagree. Wait, wait, wait. Wait until Monday and WIP if it goes the wrong way. Yeah, that Monday, Monday, Monday, black Monday, dark Monday, whatever they want to call it. Not a good Monday. Oh, we'll get to another question we have about Sunday coming up. That's the extra phone calls. Midday Show Sports Radio, ninety four WIP. Lizzy, well, there's no short car. I should have been a singer. You. Yeah, I could see that.
Karaoke definitely. Would you have tours? No, you don't seem like you like to tour. Not. A lot of people travel. You know what I noticed, I've been wanting to karaoke. It's a lot of try-hars at karaoke. Well, it's your shot. To do what? To get up on stage, like to have your moment. That's the whole point. I'll go, okay. I'd like to get noticed. You don't want to have that. That's it. Maybe you get a record deal out of it. No, I didn't go ahead. Why not? Because somebody like me was funny. I was getting acting. No, I didn't get up and saying karaoke. So I they put on a lot of attention, right? No, they say, hey, you got skills. What skills did they? The paid up bills. That's what they told me. And I say, you know what, you're right. That's why I became a list actor. No, I taught my a list of friends. D. All my a list of friends. You know, I would bet the majority of people cannot name a thing that you were in. Because mostly I'm working behind the scenes. Well, that's not a list though. No, I'm saying a list actors are transcenters. I'll be on the poster. When I in my heyday. You know, you know, you get one. Yeah, that's kind of my point.
We are. You know what I'm saying? You're right. You're right. About Ryan Reynolds and if he's an a list actor. Well, okay, that's fine. That was a fair debate. I mean, you're not even in the same class as Ryan Reynolds. I mean, come on, man. Ryan Reynolds, he called me another day. Ryan Reynolds called you? Not really. It sounds slick. We're not. It sounds slick. Do you think Ryan Reynolds knows who he would argue with? Not a shot. Yeah. No. And last, he's a football fan. And last, he's a football fan. And last, he's a football fan. And last, he's a football fan. And last, he's a football fan. And last, he's a football fan. And last, he's a football fan. And then he might. Then he might know you are. All right. 215-592-94. Before we go back to the phone lines, here's Scott Francisco. We'll join us at noon for a france. He friday fills and braves this weekend. One last chance to make the NLAs close. So yesterday was a tough day for the Phillies chances to win this division. Who's the back of quarterback on Sunday? Yes. Okay. Thank you. Are you taking the cereal out and not giving me an answer? Well, you know what's funny. And I want to talk to you. What a joke. What a joke. We were talking about this in a break. I said, what this does is it makes you as a defense, prepare for both guys. Even though they might not play, you always want to prepare for all continuacies.
Yeah. Do you think the commanders need to spend a lot of time preparing for any government? Well, I think they don't need to, but they're going to. Because it's not smart not to. I mean, seriously, all jokes aside because you will probably have three to four reps for the backup, right? But now you probably, six to eight, you know, for both of them, because they don't know who they're going to start. You know, I gave you an example last night, just for example, when you talk about the San Francisco 49ers and they had the two running backs back there. The next team that they play are going to have to prepare for both of the running backs. And so that's going to take up more time for you to do preparation and everything like that. Who do you think it should be? Like if you're if you're a Nick Sireonny and you're you're figuring it out right now, who's your backup quarterback? I'm going with the guy with the most experience, even though he did not separate himself and he looks, you know, like you would like to say washed. He looks like he's a little older. I'm going to go with the rear rifle. I'd rather go with McKee. My anticipation is they're going to go with Andy Dalton. I mean, I, my guest is Sunday when we get the inactive and active. And Andy Dalton will be active and and Tana McKee will not be active for the game.
I just the whole secrecy thing. I don't know guys. I mean, I appreciate some people live for that though, Joe. No, no, and I keep it playing closer to the best. I appreciate the Eagles trying to create any edge they can in any area. I think that's what the best teams at sports do. I'm just this one feels a little bit over the top. I mean, do we really need to on Friday be evasive about who the backup quarterbacks going to be in the game? Especially when neither probably you're any good. Yeah. I mean, it's it would come down to just if they play well or not at the end of the day. Right. Right. You can't tell me the paths weren't prepared for the possibility of drewlock coming in. And that didn't really matter. It did not like the sea hawks made it very plain and clear who their backup quarterback was. Exactly. At the bats know it. Oh, and I think this this would be a little different if let's say one of these guys to me was mobile. Right. Then it'd be like, all right. Well, what kind of quarterback is coming in there similar? Yeah, they're not going to move anywhere. So I, you know, we'll say obviously we hope we don't see either of them. Whoever the number two is. Yeah, we see the one in the best. Well, right. I mean, that's so let's just hope we don't get there. But it's next year on a continued to say he doesn't know who's backup quarterback is there.
They're competing this week barely. Klandel is up on WIP. Hey, Klandel. So what's up? How you got to do it? Good. Klandel. What's up? Good. Good man. Listen. Of course this weekend Sunday is a must win game. Tell him. Tell him. Klandel. We have a top five quarterback. I keep saying is last time I said this one. I said he was the best quarterback in the NFC. You guys got mad at me. Not mad. I just disagree. That's terrible take. We just we just didn't doubt. Not fact. Jalen has never left this fan base with a bad taste in their mouth after week one. He's always one week one. Okay. Yeah, right. Right. That's true. I mean, I you're defeated. You're dead right about that. No matter. No matter if it's a 10 to 13 game or anything, he's going to get it done week one and give the fans something good to start this season. Offway. Also, I want to say to you guys who saying all the Jalen guys we're we're illogical because we're making up things because of week one.
Drake May staffer and you guys making correlations between that. It's not the same thing because these guys there in situations that's been stable for them with the same same play call or same weapons and they can't get it done. These guys turn to deer and headlights. When situations arrive, they can't meet the moment hold on a second. When did Matthew staff return to a deer and headlights last night? Nice. He's been in the league for 17 years. Yeah, he's been in the league for 17. He's been in the league for 17 years. Being a deer, he's been in an accrued. I feel like a two-day. But he's been a league for 17 years. What is like what's last night in his career? It's just one game. I understand. I'm saying meeting the moment he has expectations like the expert faces you put on them undefeated. I'm a total of the same. But everybody knows we're a super team and we got to do this. We got to do that and he looked like he was shell shocked out there.
He did look bad. I mean his accuracy was as bad as I've seen it in a while which you know and we'll keep an eye on it. Kyle said earlier he is old. We'll see if his how well he plays it. You're playing that good phone call. It's one game. Can I say this? One game. Like listen, I understand that people are going to defend Jaylen because they like him and he's won a lot. But can we not like let's be logical in our defense of him because a lot of time. So now you want to be logical. No, no, no, no, listen to what I'm saying. Clendell, then I'm not picking on you but you called in and said Jaylen hurts his going to win because he's a top five quarterback. What is Matthew Stafford? He was a top five quarterback till yesterday. He's out. You see what I'm saying? I'm removing him from the top. That's not like like I like to have fun and laugh and giggle but when we talk about certain things man, you got to kind of base it in some kind of logic. You know what I mean? So you say he's going to win because he's a top five quarterback. Well okay, where's Matt Stafford in that top five question? Well here's a question to block perch. Blow your mind with this one.
What if two top five quarterx play each other in week one? They cancel each other out Joe. Tie game. No one wins. Guys are wild. I have one of my favorite all-timers I was told in you people today. Oh yeah, I can't wait for it. All right, 2-1-5. Five, nine, two, 94-9. We have a big second half of the show coming up. Fransky Friday next. We're going to ease drop on the enemy. The nonsense they're saying down in DC. Well here from Vic Fanzio, Meryl Moment. He was been cooking up a take. I can't wait to hear it. Guest it takes coming up. But Fransky Friday, that's next. It's the mid-day show on sports radio, 94-WIP. And let's talk about my friends over at CalSci. That's my, you know, I'm going to pull on a Hugh Douglas. You're the race for the US Open title is on.
