But for Devon Sanchez, what is his level of excitement going into the season just to finally be getting back out there on the field for a real game? Very excited. I can't talk too much about where he's here now. So it's just going out there competing, doing what I do best and just getting ready for

2:25this long season by the hour. As mentioned earlier, Devon Sanchez is a native of Texas and he don't worry. He is well aware of who they have on deck week two. But he also knows they can't worry about that just yet. This is going to game by game. Like you said, I have next week, but it's just this week. So it's this who I got ball state. I'm just going to take a peed and not just for me just for the whole DB crew. I feel like it's not worried about who's out there in front of us. It's just going to take a peed for each other and you know, just you know, to feel we've got to go to the field and make a place. We've got to make plays. Devon Sanchez played a lot last season. He actually played more than 320 snaps on defense, which that's an enormous number for a true freshman, including playing against top right Texas in the season opener. So what did that mean to him? And then what does that mean for the young guys like Jay Timins, who's projected to start at nickel, Simion Caldwell, who's projected to have a role someone like Jordan Thomas, who's already lost his black stripe and who is certainly going to be get some snaps on Saturday as well.

3:26What does that mean for those guys who are going to get a chance to finally get out on the field and start making their reputations as buck guys this weekend? Now we made a lot of, you know, just going into obviously, you know, a top-ranked game like that. We got a lot of confidence going out there. Obviously, now I was kind of nervous first ever college game, but you know, it just pushed me along and I'm going to see you knowing that, you know, this is something I can do. I'm supposed to be out there, you know, especially in Ohio State. So you know, it's just for them, it's just going out there like I'm going out there competing. I was just selling Jay that, what I think competing about just just don't be afraid to make mistakes. You're going to make mistakes, right? It's your first college game. You may be nervous, but you know, just go out there, just play how fun, you know, we're going to hide it back, whatever you do, we mess up, you know, we're going to be there, we probably don't mess up. So it's just, you know, just go out there making the least amount of mistakes that's going out there having fun. One of the biggest stories of Fall Campus, the play of True Freshman, Nickel, Jay Timman's. He kind of came in and just sees that starting role at Nickel and has never let it go. There really hasn't been any question who the starting Nickel was going to be,

4:29and it's a true freshman. That is really not usual. That is not normal. That says a lot about Jay Timman's as a player. So what did he do to be so impressive during Fall Camp? Yeah, Jay's done a lot to impress, you know, everybody, not just us, but also the offensive coaches too. He's felt out there, you know, physicality wise, you know, he's physical, you know, just going out there touching the ball, making plays on the ball. You know, it's just as a freshman, you know, that's what you got to do to be felt, you know, and if you want to be on the field, that's what you got to do. That's what he's done. He's making it known that, you know, that he's going to be on the field. And you know, we got a lot of trust in him. You know, we caught him in the lot, you know, he got to come up and make some big plays along with myself and I was remained. So it's just go out there and just competing. How early was it that Devin Sanchez sort of figured out that yeah, Jay Timman's is maybe going to make an early impact for the buck guys? I know when I was his host on his recruit, that, you know, he was going to come here and you know, make a difference. He also told me

5:29when he was recruit, he was like, hey, Dave, you know, I'm going to start a high state my first year. I was like, bro, it's hard, but you know, you can come here and do it. That's what he's doing. He's making it known. I just told him that like last week, I'm like, baby, we're going to be telling him that we're using recruit. He's like, yeah, and I'm like, yeah, it's true now. So it's like, let's go out here and do it. What was it that made Devin Sanchez feel like Jay Timman's really could do that? Because it's an easy thing to say. It's a lot harder to actually do. I kind of see myself in him when I was when I was coming out, coming here, you know, just just that confidence because you know, a lot of guys just walk and say, oh, yeah, I'm a player that calls it like this, but it's just the tone and how they how he says it. And you know, just looking his eyes and how you say like, well, I'm going to play here. I'm going to start here. Like, I'm dance here. And that's what he's doing. He's going to play here. He's going to be a big, a big factor in our defense. And you know, I have a lot of trust in my believe in him and I'm just kind of one of the other true freshmen corners in that room is Jordan Thomas. And if you saw the video of him losing his black stripe on social media, you know, he is a very high

6:33energy guy. Is he like that all the time? You're going to hear that answer from Devin Sanchez. And then a quick follow up from Spencer Holbrook of Letterman Row. He's always like that. Like that with everything. I want to feel whatever we're doing, he's like a lot of energy. You know, now guy, you're going to hear Jordan in the room. And that's what makes him Jordan Thomas. He's one of the trash talkers. He really tries to talk. But you know, he is very loud and vocal. He's going to make it know he makes it play. But I would say he's like a trash talker. Jordan Thomas is one of those true freshmen who we are expecting to see not necessarily in the first half against ball state, but almost certainly in the second half. So what has he done to earn playing time this early? Playing hard, playing very physical, you know, being a being a cornering officer, some things that he can fix. That's a lot of things that I can fix. A lot of things that we all can fix. But you know, it's just going out there. He's playing, he's not complaining. He's taking the coaching. He's playing very hard, not going to bar down. And that's how you get that's why you got to serve us. Yes, we know they can't overlook ball state. Yada,

7:35yada, yada. We get it. We understand Devin Sanchez understands to here's how the media thing works. When we get these guys from Texas doesn't mean we're necessarily going to get them next week. So if you want to ask them about Texas, sometimes you get to ask them a little early. And the players kind of get that too. Like we all understand everyone so to understand how this works. So is Devin Sanchez already hearing from friends and family about next week? Yeah, for my whole family, thank you for that next week. You know, I'm not really, you know, I'm not really like kind of getting it to it. I'm in my mom's kind of handling. But you know, it's a lot of people hitting that up, you know, trying to get tickets. But I'm like, I like, mom, we're about this week. But you know, next week I told them like, okay, who asked, you know, you, my dad, my brother says y'all can have tickets for sure. So it's like y'all I got to worry about them. What is that going to be like for Devin Sanchez to be back in his home state of Texas and playing the in state Texas Longhorns? It's going to be great. Um, great environment, um, playing close to home. So it's just, you know, hoping that I can't get a lot of family there. But, you know, regardless of just having my mom and dad there, you know, send me play back in my

8:36home state. Did he have much of a relationship with Texas during the recruiting process? Yeah, it was, it was kind of on and off. You know, I was going to Texas when I was in eighth grade. Um, but, you know, it didn't really, it wasn't like this. Um, even though they're two hours away from me. Uh, they tried to come on late like a couple days for a sign of day, but it was kind of already locked in. But, you know, it wasn't like a hate relationship, but it wasn't that strong. Another name from the state of Texas, Devon McHughan, he played at UTSA last year, for the last several years, actually. Now he is a transfer wide receiver at Ohio State and he's going to be starting outside opposite Jeremiah Smith. And he got some big praise this week from Ryan Day. So, what is Devon Sanchez seen out of Devon McHughan this year? You're going to hear a quick follow-up as well from our buddy Tony Gerteman. Oh, he's very, um, you know, I feel like he's going to be under the radar guy. I feel like he's going to shock a lot of teams. Um, he's quick off the line. He's very fast. Um, just people say, DJ's fast. I think he's just as fast. Um, he makes the

9:37kicktests and catches. Let me go up a high point to ball. Um, he, he, I feel like, you know, since the spring and now Devon is, he came and, you know, he, he is what he is. What is, um, he's a guy we looking for. He's going to be our star receiver. We're going to kind of make a lot of plays. Um, I love him. I like, I like competing against him because he's different. You know, he got DJ on the other side that you got him. Those two different receivers. So it's just going out there competing. I'm going to get something different from him every time. That high point, guys, six point does he play tar. Yeah, he played a little bit taller. Um, you know, he can go get the ball down the field. Um, you know, those, those glass drops that come, you know, intermediate passes and they're kind of high. You can jump up and get them. So it's just, you know, just him being a, you know, shorter receiver, but you know, playing big. We keep talking about all these freshmen who are playing early. Why are freshmen able to make an immediate impact now? Guys like Jay Timins or legend Bay this year or Devin Sanchez last year in a way that you didn't tend to see more than a few years ago. Like you said, in this day and age, you kind of, everybody come in. So

10:39especially here, you know, being a guy that coaches bring you in, they bring you in the play. They don't bring you in to sit a couple of years. They bring you in to play right away. And if you can sell that on the field, then that's what they go through. They go put you on the field regardless of, you know, how old you are. You know, with me, Latch, I was 18 out there. So it was just, you know, my how old you are going to be out there. When we were in camp earlier this month, it seemed kind of chippy and physical early on, which is, that's not a bad thing necessarily. It just was maybe a little more intense than we had seen at times in previous years. So what has that been like now in the recent weeks and the lead up to the season? It's been good. Um, you know, just going back and forth with the receivers on six. Um, you know, it's been no fights out there, but it's just been, you know, going back and forth, you know, knocking the ball off of them, they're catching the ball on us. It's just going out there competing every day. And then, you know, now we get the showcase there with another team. And then, you know, just go out there and just watch our brothers win.
