You know, it's again, a lot of the lot to like, I think, during that game on Saturday had an interesting breakdown with Michael Pettit, one of our scheme insiders. It sort of ends up turning into a question about the freshman in general. So, but here it is, this is three touchdown drives at the very end of the game. They did not get a lot of pressure on archmaning. Really only a couple of blitzes and we're kind of content to sit back, drop seven, drop eight, and make archmaning sort of pick them apart slowly and have to set his feet and throw the ball instead of running or finding an open guy who was not really covered. So, have they looked at it? I'm not working, right? It didn't work at the end of the game. So have they looked at maybe changes of strategy or maybe even personnel moving forward in those situations? And then you're going to hear a follow up from Douglas Amuris of the Bill and Doug show. Yeah, I think you know, you had to look at everything. And I think there was a lot of good there, but we ultimately didn't win the game when we needed to at the end. And so, yeah, the first thing you got to look at is the person on Nick and she have the right guys

3:06out there. I think we have some really good young players on all three phases, specific offense and defense that are going to play into both sides of the ball more often as we move forward in the conference play. So that's a big part of it looking into it. You know, the way that we kind of looked at it was, okay, we had this first, we had this game here week two. We're going to do everything we can to win that game and then we're going to kind of move on from there. And so I think that, you know, Cari's a guy that we got to try to figure out ways to get him into the game. But I think just in general for some of those young players, whether it's on offense or defense, like they have to build enough trust, you look at a guy like Jay Timbins, like from the jump he's built enough trust to say put him in the game and look what he did. These other guys, you know, they're going to have that opportunity here. There's no place that's more competitive than we are. And these guys are going to have a chance to compete every day and have an opportunity to get on the field. And so, so that there's that part. And then the part of, I think, like you said, about, you know, being aggressive and finding a way to win the game on defense, then, yeah, I think this is a different defense than we had last year. Different personnel, different guys. I think we have a reference point

4:12on where we are against a very good team. And I think as we look at it, now we have to put the right pieces together. It's not going to be exactly the same as it was last year. We have different guys and different spots. And so they're not new guys anymore. You know, they're buckeyes, but we got to utilize them in the right spots to go win the game in the fourth quarter. And I think that's that's the challenge that we have as coaches. And then the players owning that as well. Strategically as the head coach, are you okay with maybe taking more risks on defense to try to get more pressure and then living with the results? Maybe they hit some shots, but you guys also that can have some rewards there? Yeah, I for sure. I mean, when it's time to go win the game, you know, we all have to be on the same page and we have to live with the result just like, you know, we throw the ball on third and fourth. A Jeremiah on a fade to go win the game. Yeah, I, I mean, that's that's I absolutely own that. I mean, that's, you know, and so we have to live with the result and then then go on from there. But yes, for sure. And I think that's something that we have to do a good job of here of making sure that we have enough answers in the fourth quarter to

5:12go win the game. And it certainly didn't happen Saturday, but it will move and forward. After the game, Ryan Day talked about the fact that it was really all three phases of the game that had moments that cost them in a one point loss, you know, all of those little things can add up. And one of them, obviously with the special teams, yeah, they missed a feel go at the end, but the punt game, it was also just kind of okay for Ohio State. They had that moment where they tried to punt and pin Texas deep. And then the punt wasn't very good. And Texas ended up with the ball on about the 15 yard line instead of the two yard line. So is there maybe more in there to try and squeeze and a little bit of an extra margin out of that punt game? I still think we can get more out of it. Joe does get the ball out quickly and had a couple decent punts, but you're right. I mean, we got it. We got to execute that better. If we're going to do that, if we're going to make that decision, it is hard for me to stand in front and say, yeah, that's a good thing when the balls on a 15 yard line. If we pin them on the two or the one, you're probably saying, okay,

6:14I get it better. So either we have to execute that better or we got to go for it. That's the bottom line. I still think Joe can do a better job over it. We're going to work on it again today. Extensibly we've been working on it. But if it gets to the point where we're not executing it well enough, then we got to make other decisions. So, but but I do believe in Joe. I think Joe has the ability to do it, but we got to go put it on the field. This is kind of an interesting question. This is a year when they have seven captains. That is a lot of captains for a team. A lot of times it's two, three, maybe four. This time, year seven. So that can be sort of a weird leadership dynamic. And then so you had a game like that where all three phases of the game sort of let them down at various times and they didn't seem to have an answer in those closing minutes. So where does the leadership on the team stand right now and where does that group maybe need to improve? I feel like we have good leaders. I feel like we've had really good leaders in the past. But I understand where the question's coming from.

7:14It's like when you get to that moment who's going to step up and make that play? And I think that's a challenge for our guys. It is. But as coaches, it's our job to be really critical of every decision that we make, which I know you guys are going to do as well. That's part of your job. I get it. But if we're looking at it as coaches that way, but the players, I go back to this, the players are looking at that way. We probably can point to how many number of plays where if we make that play, the games probably over. And that's probably what's not allowed any of us to sleep over the last couple days. But yeah, I mean, this is where you get challenged. And these are those edge moments where you got to make decisions as a player and as a leader to step across and say, man, this is not going to happen again. And when I get myself in that situation again, like somebody's going to make that play to go win the game. Someone's going to get this done. And then as a coach, we got to figure out ways. We're going to put you in this situation and make sure we communicate it really, really well.

8:18So I think a lot played into it the other night. I do think that when you play 41 plays in three series, by the end, I think we were warned out a little bit. I think that did play into it. There's no excuse. We should have done a better job on offense. I, you know, it's not about blaming, but it's everybody involved with it. And so yeah, I mean, that's what I think about that. Other than being angry and disappointed, there were not that many things that Ohio State fans really all seem to agree about after the game on Saturday. But one of the things they did, linebacker Riley Petagion, he needs to play more. That was something you saw and heard from pretty much every Ohio State fan you saw on the internet after that game on Saturday night. So, all right, is Riley Petagion someone needs to play more in Ryan Day's eyes? Yeah, I would say Riley will continue to play more. Yeah, you see that. He's going to put himself in a situation where, you know, he's a unique player that just has the

9:20and caniability to slip blocks and make plays. And the more he plays, the better he's going to be. You know, and like, so like when you look up there at our culture, it says competitive excellence, like make your play when your number is called and how do you do that through physical reps and mental reps. And so the more Riley gets these physical reps and continues to work on the mental part of it, he's just, he's going to be a competitive excellence. And that's for everybody, but, you know, he's one of them. Last one here. And this was one of the questions that I was hoping to ask didn't get a chance to get in get called on, but it was right at the end of the game. Buck eyes. Have allowed Texas to get down to the one yard line. You got a minute 20 or so left. You got one time out in your pocket. It's first and goal at the one. Does Ohio State let them score even though that means giving up the lead? If the tradeoff is you have about a minute 20 with your offense to go back down and try and score and get the kick a game winning field goal. Now that's it, that's not an easy decision. Ryan Day during the game decided, okay, they're going to play defense,

10:24but did they decide did they think about it? Did they think about letting them score? Now, this is kind of interesting because he gives a results answer here to what's really kind of a question that's more of a process question. Well, it didn't work. So the answer is yes. Yeah, I mean, if, if, you know, we win the game, then they would have been our right decision, you know, and, you know, in the moment, you got to make a hard decision and I decided to try to hold the line. There's a lot that comes with that, you know, just saying, hey, yeah, let them score right there, you know, as the they had coach your team. I decided to make that call and ultimately, you know, love to have seen what it would look like if they would have scored, but made the decision, just talking to it with Matt and that was the decision we made.
