Coach Mac: NFL Legend Passes Away at 74

On April 14th, former NFL coach Dave McGinnis, known as Coach Mac, passed away Monday at

age 74.

He'd been in the hospital since early March, with his family by his side when it happened.

The Titans made the announcement.

McGinnis built a long career from 1986 to 2016.

He coached linebackers for the Bears, ran defenses and led his head coach for the Cardinals,

worked with the Titans and Rams as an assistant head coach.

McGinnis' owner, Michael Bidwell, shared a heartfelt statement, calling him a true ball

coach full of passion and charisma.

He said Coach Mac loved the game and his players deeply and everyone will miss that one of

a kind energy.

McGinnis kicked off coaching back in 1973 as a graduate assistant at TCU.

He hit college stops like Missouri and Kansas State before jumping to the NFL with the

Bears.

As Cardinals head coach, his record sat at 17 wins and 40 losses.

After retiring from sidelines, he joined the Titans radio booth in 2017 as color commentator

right through the 2025 season.

Coached legends like Mike Singletary, Pat Tillman and Emmett Smith, his impact echoes across

the league.
