Your dog was barking. My dog was barking because you rang the doorbell. I rang the doorbell because your dog was barking. Your lease has no pets. Well, here's a guide dog. You're not blind. I prefer the term optically challenged. Move your way challenged. That's why we have to pee on it from a great height. This is Womesaq. Oh, sure. Hello, and welcome to FilmSak.
This is FilmSak. We're mining the very depths of film entertainment for all mankind since 2009. This is episode 759. My name is Scott Johnson. Join today by Brian FilmSak only does wacky movies now done away. Yes, what we do? Mass with the wackies. Oh, hi. This week on FilmSak, we are bestowed absolutely anything powers by the council of space monties. Who's good is bad and bad is good and that's not great. Is we await humanity's fate to be dealt like a giant Terry Gilliam foot dropping down from an aquatic theme space base from far away, determined entirely by how we use our unlimited hand waving powers. But hey is a fecklessness. No. But as hey is feckless, that's what I'm looking for. But hey, it's feckless as we are. That is to say without feck. And despite our average size man junk, we've already won the hot neighbor and bestie biscuit craven boy lottery. So I'd say we're in pretty good shape to wave our hands and say, make this absolutely
talented pack 2015 sci-fi comedy reflected talents within. Nothing? Wave it again. Shit. I guess we got what we got. Anywho, pedantic powers or pedantic and that is the entire gag. Enjoy. Come on, let's go back and wait your battles. Yeah, it's gonna mount. Yeah, let's get out of there, baby. Oh, Lord, we're going places with this one. Walking poo. I can feel it. Also, we have Randy. Don't worry about rules because this movie doesn't, Jordan. Hello, Huskot. Brian, Brian. Thanks for joining me on this strange series of events that we've been observing. Starting with the strangest, how can a young novelist who hasn't completed a book in a reasonable amount of time afford to live in a really nice, tenement in London? Doesn't make sense. And also, how are we going to just skip right past the much better option of it being Sarah Palin? So, this guy, this guy who is quite dumb, but somehow makes rent every month is you.
And you've been given the power of an omnipotent God. So good for you. I always liked you. And I need you to know that. I need you to know, I will never think of you as less than my best friend ever. So carry on. And just follow my three total control rules. Number one, of course the wishes you've been granted are trick wishes. And of course they'll go wrong if you don't state them precisely. So each time you make a wish and then something goes wrong, you should just give up on that idea. Just reverse it and don't try again with better wording. Number two. I need you to hurry it way up and watch a very special special show called Death Note. Thank you. Number three. Number three. One of the first things you're going to do is try to give yourself a great body and a big penis. That's expected. We all expect it. So just remember, do the same for your boy over here. Come on. Thank you.
Yeah, help his pal out. It's already going to get worship like a God. Have a reason. Give him a big ding dong. Nicely done also with us. And finally we have Brian, this movie owes an apology to the Robin Williams estate. Ibit. Oh, the Terry Jones estate and the Monty Python. Anyway, you know, Randy bring up something interesting. That whole like making your friend have a girl worship him like a guy. It's like I've seen that in a movie recently. I just can't put my finger on it. Play the song. Is this black mirror? I cannot tell. Could see it clearer. If you're actually done well, there's such potential. And such a great cast.
But still, it's failure. Left me a gas. It's so true though. I thought you were going to go with an episode of black mirror. And then I was like, but which one? There's so many. They're like, yeah, exactly like every wish he makes is an episode of black mirror. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah. This is this is a beef. It couldn't get rid of and the entire movie, you know, say what you want about the zaniness or the the jokes falling flat or whatever. All that or the I will. I will say what I want about all of that jumping off or the, you know, the fact that the entire surviving crew from Monty Python is doing this because they're pal, pal Terry. He's like, I'm making one more movie. I'm going to direct it. Terry Jones says and they say, Oh, Terry, what is it about? I mean, you did such a good job with Holy Grail and and you wrote life of Brian and you wrote and co directed meaning of life like surely this will work. So they all did. They all jumped in and they don't do that. That's the thing they don't do anymore. So yeah, you'd think you'd have every piece to whatever pie you're trying to make possible and nothing since fish called Wanda could compete with whatever this was going to be. And it's not good in any of those other ways. But then they add this one little bit where my beef, this is where my beef sits on the
table unprepared. It's when they go, he does a reset button a bunch of times. One time it's the entire class of kids is murdered. Yes. Yeah. That was disturbing. He lets that go for a while. Yeah. He does several hours before he realizes he needs to undo. Yeah. And he kind of just laughs it off or is not that upset. Like he comes home. It's like your entire class is decimated and you come home and you're not acting like it's anything. Anyway, then he figures out he can reset things like that. Now that you put that rule on your supernatural table, that means everything can be reset. And that includes the second, what's her name starts, hump and brab, wriggle. The second your hand is free, you just reset everything. So when there's an option to constantly reset and never truly have any consequences, then your movie has no real consequences. Yes. And I, you know, I, here we go. Look, look, we all agree this is a poo movie, but I think that particular decision actually
puts the power into the hands of the viewer to feel, you know, to feel things about the primary character in his, his, you know, he could have, he could have wiped that away. Diddy, why didn't he? So it kind of develops the character a bit. So I actually liked that part of it. That didn't bother me. It actually was really bug me. And part of it, I think I read a comic series recently, I forgot the name, I would love to recommend it. It's really good. But the comic series was all about the world could make wishes and everybody started making them. Right. And it, and it just threw the world into chaos. A little bit like he was experimenting with like, all bring him all back to life and then all the, everyone who's ever died comes back alive. But they, but they have lasting impact and you can't reset it. Once you've made the wish, the wish is made. You can't do another wish. One of the rules is you can't go, oh, I wish I never did that. That it's a cheese. Exactly. It's the, you know, it's the whole reason that, that a genie only gives you three. There's got to be some stakes. You've got, oh, Cret, all right, I've, these great wishes.
I can do whatever I want with them, but I've only got a limited supply of them or, or kind of like the way you're describing Scott, like the fact that you can't unwish your wish. You need a barrier to basically say, oh, thank you. Oh, go ahead. Yeah. My favorite guard rails on a story like this are the first season of Jessica Jones, because Killgrave can, can influence anyone to do anything, but it's a very short range that he's got on his Wi-Fi. Yeah. They should have, they should have distinguished and they try, they didn't try very hard. They should have distinguished because I get fall into the same trap of these are wishes. They're not wishes is like, yeah, they're not wishes. He has ultimate power and how does that affect the character, but they didn't do a good job of setting that up. And so I, I felt like they should fix that. The reason we're, the reason we're calling them wishes is because the movie stupidly makes it have to wave his hand and say words.
Out loud exactly. Exactly. And that looks exactly like because the words he says are so important to the way the reality is reshaped. Like, how does he not instantly fall into this ridiculous mental state where he's trying really, really hard to get all the words right? I don't know. That was a failure in the writing. I think it was probably like added at the end because they were like, we want him to be at this place at the end. And how do we make that? We got to make it so that he can't just, his hand can be, be held right so that he can't just wish away everything. So you can do that different way as you can make him not be able to speak. We should probably tell people so we don't get a shit out of luck.com complaint. And then we're talking about the movie absolutely anything is what it's called. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah. Directed by Terry Jones, one of the pythons, right? Guy, you like. He's funny. And he went to wherever I would get. Exactly. Like we love Terry Jones, nothing wrong with Terry Jones.
And he's had a hell of a career with his friends and everything else. But he co-wrote this with a dude named Gavin Scott. And I'm tempted to say, well, what the hell is wrong with that dude? Because maybe he's the problem. But they may be not. I don't know. They've done like an animated series. That they've worked before. But yeah, trying to bring this into that world. I think it was just a half-baked idea. I read some interviews with how this got made essentially. And they weren't really looking to do something. They were approached and asked what do you have in the bottom of the drawer. And they said this. And it just kind of got some momentum behind it because of who he is. And next thing you know, it's more about the reunion and getting everybody in there. And no one really ever stopped and said, wait, we need to make sure this story is bulletproof. And they just never went back and did that. Which actually, my big forgiveness for this is that it's terminally English. It is so British. And I almost wonder if Americans like us can even really fully appreciate a movie like
there's a story like this that is so just loaded up with an English point of view, an Englishman's life and how they approach things and think about things. You know what I mean? They're like personal philosophy is quite a bit different than ours. What is the English version of Rotten Tomatoes? Randy, what is theirs? They have an English version. I don't think they do. I think we're all on the same tomato meter. But I can just feel John Cleese just like complaining about these idiot Americans who want to be gods and think that they would do a better job and so forth. I can just feel that. I can hear it in the back of my head. Yeah, but even they even under baked because I kind of agree with you, but the stuff with with Riggle, which was supposed to bring in there that kind of weird resentment of the American mythos. Yeah. It was so paper thin is like the most two-dimensional thing I've ever seen. And I like Rob Riggle. He's an actual ex-Marine. I think Rob Riggle was the mistake of this movie.
The mistake of this movie is having that. It's not great. And Rob Riggle isn't up to the task. I'm sorry. He's playing a caricature. And I realize it's a movie filled with caricatures. What are you talking about? Well, again, watch some British comedy television. You know? They're way more comfortable with this caricature kind of portrayal than a cleaner. And they cast him on the last day of casting the day before they went into filming. Yeah. So he was the last to be cast. Last cast. Last cast. So I think that probably says, well, we're, you know, here we are. Now, as you guys know, in 2015, Roger Ebert, Gene Siskel had died. They didn't exist. Okay. I mean, they didn't die that year. They died long before that year. And so as much fun as it's been to go back and find stuff for movies that we watch and go, oh, what did Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert think? Today I'm going to play you what I believe Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel would say.
I'm, I, this isn't the movie they're talking about, but it may as well be. Okay. So enjoy. It was as depressing an experience as I've ever had going to the movies. That's 23 years of going to the movies professionally. Maybe six, seven thousand pictures. Well, Gene, I was going to the movies professionally for two or three years. I knew where and there was nothing I saw during that time that even approached this. And it's a bismophappiness. This is perhaps the worst comedy ever made. I'm not saying they're time travelers, but I'm not saying they're not. Okay. I kind of want to play the game of, do we guess what movie they're talking about? I have to. I have to figure it out. Go for it because I don't know the answer just so you know, you think it's a spinchura. I mean, here's what I did. I searched for, I searched for those two talking about comedy. And this came up as like a short and there's zero context. There's like a hundred kilometers in there going thanks. You'll offer not tells what the movie is. So I still don't know. I have no idea what film they were talking about. It looked like it was about 1989, 88 maybe.
So I just looked it up. I just looked it was so easy to look up. They were talking about the movie Frozen Assets, the Corbin Birdson and Shelley Long movie. Nice. That's obvious. I have never even heard of that movie. I forgot to mention we're actually watching it next week. Here we go guys. Let's find out. No, no, no. Corbin, Corbin, Bernson as a man managing a sperm bank. Fantastic. There you go. Wow. Now we've, we've shit on this movie pretty hard, but I'm not going to say it's the worst comedy I've ever seen. There are moments that is hilarious and it almost really smart. There's, there's points in here where is where you flip the idea that we as audience members are going, oh, this is, you know, we've got, he's got to be good. So we're all rooting for him to do something good. We find out good is bad and it's all flipped upside down. Also we find out later that the, the pythons in space are all hilariously named all these,
you know, like hilarious names. You keep using the name word hilarious though. I think it's pretty hilarious. This is about the fourth time I've heard the word hilarious. I was still, when I was still, okay, so I put, that's in my notes. It says hilarious in the first before the turn happened and I'm like, okay, this isn't hilarious. But in the beginning, I thought there were some very funny things. That was probably a good 20, 30 minutes in the beginning where I was really enjoying what was going on. And then I think somewhere, I don't know exactly what point, but I was definitely fully out by the time they were wishing big ears. And I'm like, you've overstayed your welcome with these big ears and the police running around and pink uniforms and stuff. I'm like, yeah, you've overstayed your welcome. Yeah. It felt like a kid wrote it. And that's, that's fine sometimes, right? Like, what if stories, you know, watch, watch Monty Python. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So many crazy, who would have thought of this? This is so immature, but somehow. But the absurdity of the pythons is, is a thing, like I feel like it's, it's, it's
it's Terry Jones. And this is, by the way, this is while he had, he doesn't know it yet, but he has dementia when he's making this film. Okay. So does Robin Williams at this time. And I think he actually knew that we had the beginnings of Alzheimer's. And he died before the film, or he, he, yeah, he took his own life before the movie came out. Robin Williams did this ended up being both of their last projects in these capacities, actor and director, writer. So you're not saying it killed him, but I'm not saying that. I'm not saying I didn't kill him. No, but I guess what I'm saying is it may have been, like the, the prime of what Monty Python was has clearly, it's way in the past, right? Like, these are, these are very old men who, who aren't in that world anymore, who aren't trying to think of the silliest possible outcome to a sketch or whatever. Like, they're not blazing that trail anymore. Now they're just kind of picking up weird crumbs of it. And it's not absurd enough. Like this thing has absurdities about it, but it's not absurd in that way.
I think the problem, great, Randy. My, my feeling is that it's not, it's not romantic enough. And that's like, there is a moment in this movie where I'm like, they are about to stick the landing. Oh my God. It's a moment in the hallway between Simon Pagan, Kate Beckinsale. She has had her crisis of conscious. And she is, she has turned to him and said, I don't even know what to believe anymore. I don't know if I'm in control of what I believe. And I'm like, holy shit, it's a romcom. Oh my God. Yeah, yeah. Almost. Just do this. If you just do this for 10 more minutes, I don't care how you wrap it up. If you just do this. And the movie is like, now, psych, we're not even about that at all. Yeah, I thought the same thing. I thought I was going to, I thought I was going to develop into a romcom. And I was pretty excited about that because it did fit that, that pattern. It's the whole thing. What women want and those whole like supernatural romcom things that we had a bunch of, and
there are really 2000s. Yeah. I think Simon Pagan was not the right way for some of these jokes. Simon Pagan is great. And he does his own thing. And there's, I have no complaints about Simon Pagan and anything he does. But I don't think some of the material later on when it gets really absurd, I don't think his reactions were landing because that's not his type of character. And he doesn't seem as proper as the original, you know, the money Python crew who, it was hilarious to see these proper, you know, for the most part, gentlemen, you know, go into the absurd. And Simon Pagan does have fun in the absurd, but he, he like runs away from it, right? He's like, nope, I'm getting out of here. It strikes me as a guy who grew up with Python was obsessed with them growing up and became a career for him. And now he gets to work with these people, not really, but adjacently. Like, they're all just doing voice in shit. The, the, the CGI pythons are just screwing around and, you know, whatever. And then, but even like to work with Robin Williams would be a dream.
But I looked all this up. He did all that from Skype. He never did. Yeah, he never met Robin Williams. The, uh, something interesting, the trivia and, and I'll throw this over to you, Dunno Way. Uh, I don't know if I believe it because it's one of those originally considered for the role. You saying it's scrutiny, those, uh, been a dick to cumber batch originally considered for the Simon Pagor one time considered for the Simon Pagor. Does that more fit your proper? Yes. Yes, because Simon Pag has a very particular comedic style and it is very successful and it is very good. And I just don't think it's odd that these two things that I feel like should work. It just doesn't quite work. But I think, yeah, having somebody who is a little more proper might have made it a little less painful to watch. Was the tiny, sorry, the tiny little, um, I'm looking at some photos from the film and I just realized I never knew who Terry Gilliam is. Is he the little guy, the little alien? The one that was all the best of the guy. Was he voiced? Who was he voiced? Well, Eric Ida was the one that would pipe in, uh, through a communication.
He was like the general. Yeah, he was like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I'm sorry, Michael, I'm sorry, Michael Pilling, I thought was the little tiny one. He was the, he was this regular size one with the tiny eyes, the little B.D. eyes. So was that little angry guy on a chair? Yeah, I had to play it off. Yeah, that had to be killing, okay? Yeah, I could not for whatever reason I was like, did I even see Terry Gilliam in this movie? Was it really a reunion? I guess it was. Yeah. But John Cleese was their leader and every single one of them at all times seemed to have no script. And I, that was just like, that's a problem for your movie. Like, yes, you should have let your comedy folks riff. Yes, absolutely. Let them go. But they should start by getting a take where they read the script. Well, also you, that's, it's a fundamental misunderstanding of Monty Python. They, they were always scripted. That's the point of Monty Python. They never, everything they did live on stage, everything they did in radio, everything on the flying circus, their movies, all scripted to a T. No one's, no one's improving.
So letting those guys just sit around a Skype room and improv, well, why would you think that would work, especially 50 years on? I don't know. That, that, I also thought that was weird. It's, it feels more like it would happen during the pandemic. This was 2015. So no excuse. Right. Yeah. Also, the CG in this thing was like, somebody was, how do I explain this? Somebody had like a neuron disease while they made it. Like it was just like, I, I wrote down it. They spared every expense on these. Really? I, I, I enjoyed it. I thought it was, I thought it was spot on. I thought it was too wobbly and movie and, it distracting. I don't know. I don't know. A couple of, of fantastic, also stars, co stars here in this movie. Basically, Simon Pegg has a good friend played by Sanji Baskar and that is, I mean, he, he was having quite a moment in the late 2010s. He was in everything. And then he has a nemesis played by Eddie Isard and by, as we're recording this right
now, Eddie Isard is called Eddie Isard across all the things. It changes back and forth every couple of years. Oh, really? Yeah. Let the guy say, he's fine. We could also say Susie Eddie Isard or Susie Isard, but right now, if you look at IMTP, it's currently Eddie Isard. Yeah. And sometimes when it's not the thing, if it's Susie, he'll still do a role where he's a dude in a suit with a goatee, like playing completely against type. Just letting you know, he is such an interesting guy. I think looking at the name right now, but Susie Isard is perfectly fine. But anyway, that Susie Isard plays the villain in Simon Pegg's life and does so really, really well. And I'm like, why didn't you give us more of this character interacting with the main character? That was good. So that was one of my, that was probably one of my biggest problems with the movie for me was they didn't, they had this whole school background and they didn't just, they just kind of just backdrop. They really needed to focus in on what was going on there and those interactions.
And instead, we spent most of our time with Rob Riggle being annoying. And I'm like, no, you just know. But I get it, you know, because when they trying to recreate like that fish called Wanda kind of given climb kind of thing. Yeah. Yeah. So this isn't working. It's a good comparison. Because that is probably what the influence for his character was. At some point, Rob Riggle pulls up in a brand new McLaren 650. And right now, that is a $700,000 vehicle. Right now, like to buy a 12 year old McLaren 650. Rob Riggle is fine to find me, but go ahead. I'm just saying it makes, he makes no sense. It makes no sense. It makes no sense. His character makes no sense. Yeah, I agree with that. I think Rob Riggle is great and underused and put him in more movies and all that. But in this movie, I just didn't fit. And I know what they were looking for, what they were aiming for. It's just so surface level and candy like like, it's just like when Brian Mornme said,
you're going to watch this and go, you know, the Zaini almost made it. Give us a veto. It almost happened. It really was close. It was close. And we can do like when we watch fish called Wanda, we all loved it again. Yeah. And there's moments in that movie that you could, I suppose, define a Zaini. But for some reason, it works. And here's my theory. I could be wrong about this. I'm not trying to besmirch any of the other pythons, but I think Graham Chapman and John Cleese, maybe those are your two geniuses. Palin's great. Don't get me wrong. I love, I love him all. He's great. Eric Eitel's probably the hardest working of the bunch, but they all have their sets of skills or whatever. And I'm just saying maybe Terry Jones, when it comes to writing a film, directing a film, and being, well, you had a couple of parts in it. He was one of the aliens and then was in that truck screwing himself or whatever. They, they, they just started in the same. What's the get? I think in the, no interviews in those interviews. I mean, even Terry Jones says, yeah, this was just something we had been kicking back
and forth. It wasn't like nobody's, nobody was pushing this project along. They did his came to us and said, you got anything else? And they're like, uh, I was in the bottom here and, and they ended up making it. So that's, yeah. I don't even think Terry Jones thought this was his best work. He was probably just like, okay. Oh, I don't know how we could. I mean, at the end of this thing, by the time this, that year ended, he was pretty deep into his, it not dementia, his full blown, uh, Alzheimer's. Yeah. I think that probably was like, I have to, I could be wrong. I just have to think it had some effect on the set. Like, you know, you know, like, dude, for some, I think it's a good description of not having a clear leader probably. And you know, if you've been friends with Terry Jones forever and if he is having, uh, moments, you probably wouldn't do like you were when you were young where you're like, hey, you got it, you know, we got to tighten this up. You probably like, okay, Terry. Yeah, you would be, you don't want to be kind to him exactly. I mean, that's the interpretation. Yeah. It's interpretation. Yeah.
We don't know. We have no idea really what was happening. That's humanity. Well, we had hope. We had hope. Yeah. I think straight comedies don't have to have an author. Like, I thought a lot about this about, why do we like Edgar Wright movies so much? Well, Edgar Wright has total control over every frame of the film. And has a vision that he is imparting onto every frame of the film. And it's like, it's great. It turns, Edgar Wright turns out just really fun movies. And you know, you put Simon Pegg and an Edgar Wright movie, you know what I mean? Yeah. It's amazing chemistry, amazing. But like this, this movie feels more like someone had a mission statement. Like Terry Jones said, I can make a good movie out of anything. You can just give me a hundred disconnected scenes. If it's all the same people playing the same characters, I can make a good movie out of it. And it's just not true. I don't, I'm not saying this movie needed an Edgar Wright.
It just needed someone, like a person to like make a movie from beginning to end. It's also possible that the script was better than we think. There's some trivia that says Terry Jones began writing this movie with Gavin Scott in the early 90s in an interview in 2014. And he said that noted science fiction writer Douglas Adams, friend and co writer of the Python stuff, looked over the script and said that, quote, Dennis, the dog scenes were the funniest. They were easily the least funny thing for me in this movie. So on paper, maybe this thing looked way better, you know? Yeah. I think that's probably what it were. Execution is just hard. And even the best material in the wrong, direct, or real hands just doesn't work. I don't know. With all that said, there are some times I laughed out loud. So there are moments in this film. I just named them because I couldn't find. Oh, I mean, come on. You didn't laugh out loud when he was doing his penis. I mean, come on. That's easy jokes or when or how about when he brought everybody back to life? All right. That did make me laugh a whole like, come on. I thought it was clever. It wasn't and it really wasn't, you know, his reaction to it.
It was the guy in the, the morgue who said there and all the bodies coming back. I was like, yeah, that's pretty good. That's pretty good. Yeah, I don't know. I do like a, there's a good bit of comedy to be had with the, you know, the, the pedantic genie, right? It has to, you have to have, you have to say it. It's just the right way. And you learn later on, I thought this part was clever with the reason why he was having so much trouble is because it seems that maybe the universe skews towards what we, as humans, consider evil, but the universe seems to think is the good. So it was trying to perform the good. So there's some, you know, there's some things here that could be deep and you could go further, but it just didn't, didn't appear on film. Yeah, and then with no guardrails again, you can just reset shit. You, you, you take out all the stakes and that really pissed me off. Once again, like I said, I felt that was a measurement of the character. I, I wanted to judge the character myself because that was the whole point of the movie was to, because he's a random guy and his judgment, whoever judges, whatever he does,
is all of our fates. And so I, I found that actually a fun little thought experiment that didn't bother me. We haven't even brought her up, but Kate Beckinsill is fine in this. She's fine. No, it's not great. Ridiculous league hot to be Simon Peggs, you know, you know, that, that might have left it to a, a, a, cumber batch replacement too, right? Right. Right. Yeah. Yeah. I was, I was so glad that they're age appropriate. I was just like, man, yeah, yeah. It's going to be, it's going to be a hard time if she's 20 years younger than him, but nope, nope, they're the same age. She's, they're like, they're in their, they're both in their 50s now. Yeah. And she doesn't look, he looks like he's, he's hit the road and he's on his way to the, you know, to the wrinkle old man town. Yeah. Yeah. If you've seen him lately, he does, she does not at all. I don't understand her genetics. What happened there? How'd she work all that out? And she doesn't as far as I can tell how to a bunch of work done. She just looks amazing all the time. Yeah. Almost embarrassing. Some people, some people it happens for, man, yeah, me.
She's, she's super smart in real life. I've heard she's like genius level like you or something. There's something whole thing about her that's like aside from her acting where she's like super brilliant or something like that. But I really like her. Did you notice, I'm sure Brian did it notice this Roger Taylor drummer for Queen singing the opening theme. It is absolutely the first thing I wrote down in my notes. Is that Roger Taylor singing? I totally agree. I've never, I've never heard him sing. Yeah. I thought it, I thought it was Bowie song at first. I was like, oh, did you do a Bowie? And I'm like, no. Yeah, I'm trying to think of like, I mean, he's obviously sings parts of Bohemian Rhapsody and things like that. Right. Yeah. I mean, the big hits, the songs that he's saying, I'm in love with, in love with my car for Queen. There weren't a lot of, um, tenement funster, I think was him singing. There weren't a lot of hits that Roger Taylor's saying on. He went solo and had a great album called Fun in Space, which is really good. And then another one where he covered Bruce Springsteen, Dan's or Fighting in the Street,
no, racing in the street. Oh. Let's fight. Let's race. Let's race. The reason I say this, because it uses the line, everybody around the world, are you ready for brand new beats? Somebody's here at the time is right for racing in the street. Oh, okay. Let me see what they did. Yeah, he uses this one. Let me, I'm going to play just a piece of it because it's also the place of this movie where they say the name of the movie. So, uh, I was playing a little tiny bit of it. Absolutely. Anything. He's a cool voice, man. He does. He does. It's gotten better with age. It, uh, younger, he was a really, really high voice. Uh, still does, but, um, even more. High songs in Queen's songs where he hear a, you know, that's Roger Taylor. It's his contribution. It's all the flash. Oh, that's him. That's him. That's him doing that. Yeah, exactly. That's great. That's great. 100% that's him. I love that. I really do. Uh, and, and book ended, right? Cause then you get a, uh, a very clunky and awkward, horrible, uh, Kylie Minogue song at
the end called absolutely anything and anything at all, which feels like, uh, you've got 10 minutes, right? A song. Mm-hmm. It did a little bit. I think they're pretty quick. I only heard a bit about a, hopefully you stuck around in the credits for the Robin Williams. I, I did. Yeah. I did not. You told us and I forgot what happened. Yeah. It's, it's Robin Williams and the sound booth, uh, just riffing, just going crazy on, on the microphone, which is, uh, probably the best thing in this building, which it won't easily be the best thing in the movie for sure. Can't let I'll go back. I want to see it. Yeah. I gave you guys in discord, uh, one of my favorite Queen songs. Like absolutely. I want to know, one of my favorite Queen songs, period. And it's, uh, it's a Roger Taylor song. All right. Okay. Check that out. I like, uh, I liked this, this song gave me, well, like Brian said, and it was showing space stuff. So I had a very bowie like major Tom, like, you know, something like that kind of I, um, and I really liked that.
It's how I feel about that new, what's not new, the song's not new, but the movie, uh, the Hillmare Project, Hillmare use of the, the one direction kid song, Harry style song, Harry style song. Yes. That song is so transcendent. It's so good. I don't really. It's not the times. Yeah. Sign of the times. It's so good and perfect for that kind of thing. Totally. I don't know what you want to even call that. It's a genre almost to itself. This kind of like space 60s glam rock sound. I love that shit. Maybe I just said it. Maybe that was the genre. That's it. I, I actually, I actually think, um, the fact that we've seen some really good movies that are so moody the last few years, I've been saying, you know, repeatedly something, something turned in like 2023 and then we're getting year after year of really good new movies. But that kind of hinders a movie like absolutely everything because I've watched Project
Hill Mary like five times in the last six months. Yeah. And I need a movie to kind of stand up to that level of, you know, entertainment. Absolutely anything is an even try. It's, it's trying to be a solid episode of Doctor Who, you know? Uh-huh. Oh, that's, that's interesting. That's a pretty good, that's a pretty good comparison. Yeah. I wrote down my notes. I wish Terry Gilliam would have directed this, written this, directed this instead of Terry Jones. And I've, you know, again, not disparaging him, but I think for something like this that has to, that borders on so, uh, leave your, uh, leave your, uh, expectation, not expectations, but your logic at the door and just kind of go with it. You want that kind of Brazil weirdness, the time bandits. Right. Right. Yeah. You know what? That would have probably helped. Yeah. Problem is you got, Gilliam is, he's a freak when it comes to what Projects Hill do and what do you do to do? Well, and, and this thing probably would have taken, uh, budget 10 times.
Yeah. What it was originally offered and, and would have taken 12 years to finally release. Yeah. Everything about this felt to me, like straight to DVD, even the cover. Yeah. Uh, yeah. In, in our 25 runtime, it's always very short. I appreciate it that I liked it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So I was like, oh, okay. I had one point I hovered over because I do this on a computer because I got to cap it and I'll hover over once or one ago. Wow. Like three quarters through this thing. We're all right. We can do this. We can do this. It's, uh, it did not overstay. It's already, let's put it this way. It's welcome was never great. But it didn't overstay. That already not great welcome. Right. Like I say, I ended up on the opposite page. I'm like, if this movie had been made by someone like David O Russell and had really focused on the relationship between Simon Pegg and Kate Beckinsale, it could have been awesome. It could have been. Yeah. Again, it's like a better hands better product. Again, we're nobody. I don't think anybody has any rotten feelings about Terry Jones.
I don't know. No, not at all. Like I think he wrote the, uh, or at least conceptualized the scene in life of Brian where Brian gets, um, taken by those weird ass aliens with one eyeball in the middle of his head. Oh, yeah. And that, that, you could look at that and go, well, that's wacky. But for some reason, it doesn't play as wacky. It plays as discordant and odd and funny at the same time and, and farcical, but then, but that also very Monty Python stuff like that is an abriant little insert in that movie. Right. This feels like it wanted to do a bunch of that. That kind of weird disconnect between these aliens. It looks so weird up there. And then what's happening with normal dude and Britain and it just never, I don't know, it's never jailed for me. That's okay. Everybody gets one, right? You get a stinker. No, you should all have stinkers. I mean, you should, everyone in that cast has had a stinker. Yeah, yeah, that's fine. Uh, you know, this is, this was the stinker for some of them.
But, uh, I think we've expressed, uh, the biggest disappointment in this is not that it was a stinker that it had such potential because it had all the pieces here that could have made this the best thing ever. And of course that, that brings to probably the greatest disappointment, uh, just like, oh, it could have been so good. Yeah. All the pieces, what a missed operative. Kind of wish they'd have done it in the 90s when they were writing it because it feels like the era this would have fit better in or made it would all have more skeptic of it. Yeah. We would have said, was it like, uh, is it Evan Almighty? Which one was it with the, uh, that he was God? Bruce Almighty. Bruce Almighty. Evan Almighty was terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Steve Carell, uh, follow up. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's, it's weird that this movie is after Bruce Almighty, like by more than a decade, like you should have seen Bruce Almighty by this point. Yeah. You should have seen the pitfalls, right? You should know. Yeah. Actually, that brings up a good question. Outside of these two films, do we have, do we have a favorite like, uh, I don't know,
can I wish things? Oh God. What do you wish? Oh, the old God. John Denver and, uh, George Burns. Yeah. That was where those were old school. More partial to the old God you devil with Ted Wallace, but, uh, yeah, was that the one, what's the one where he became of like a rock star? Yeah. Yeah, that's so God you devil. Yeah. That's right. That's a good one. And then the two George Burns, the God and devil George Burns, as we're fighting over the soul. Yeah. That was really good. It was really good. That's sackable. I wonder how, we're how they was held up. That's a good. Yeah. I know there's a million of these. I can't think of them all like, Zach, we saw zapped. That was a good one. I kind of want to put, I kind of want to put groundhog day in this category because, because he, he starts, he starts using his powers at some point, right? The, just the knowledge of, of what's going to happen becomes God. Right. I want to know. What do you call it? If you know, one point says, you know, she says, are you God? He says, I'm not the God. Right.
Yeah. What, what would you call, let's see, I'm trying to get a list here of these kinds of movies because I know as a kid, sort of thing fascinated me as a kid. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Sandlers click. It was, it was like, what's, what's superpowers and what's God like? Do we ever talk about the, I don't know. Yeah. Well, I'm just saying if you're going to put groundhog day, which is like liar liar, right? Well, rain is in that. I didn't say that. My, I think my favorite one is Avengers Endgame with the, and we don't let, yeah. That's a good one. No, seriously. Yeah. No, that's how you make one of these. I think, yeah. That's a better one of these. Click is terrible, but that's a, yeah. Kind of version of this. That's 20 years old now. Think about that. Big, big like that. Oh, sure. Yeah. You go talk to the thing. I wish I was big and big. I think it needs to be the thing where the whole world is at, at your, uh, at your changing.
You know what I mean? Like reality and everything. If you want stuff that's like at this level, yeah, being superhuman, I don't know if that like we're having the ability to manipulate time. I mean, Superman can travel back in time. Is that make Superman a God movie? Sort of God, a little G, but not a big G, right? So I mean, you got Jurassic Park is about playing God. It's true. I mean, at limitless, have we seen that? But that's kind of, you know, your, your, your intelligence powers being able to do anything, you know, using power intelligence. What's, is there, uh, there's one way you can freeze stuff, right? And then, oh, and then everyone holds still because you're a little pro. Hold still. And then you can change stuff around. But what is that? I mean, I, I only think I can think of his, uh, Evan Peters and the X-Men films, uh, quick. Yeah. That's a scene that, that is indicative of the entire thing we're talking about. Kind of is. Yeah. But what's the, it was one where they would, the clock would stop. Yeah. And he could freeze time and then go, you know, do stuff and then start time back up.
Oh, what was that? Yeah. So I guess the genre is kind of time. Wait. I think you guys are spread on the genre. Probably just, I'm still sticking. I'm still sticking with my original. I think those other, are, are, are, are, are already have genres. I, I think I'm going to stick with my very small genre group and blockbuster video. This is, oh, God, uh, Bruce Almighty and this. Well, in that case, Disney's Aladdin. It's your DVD special edition three patches, a matter of fact. It is. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Anything with wishes. Yeah. Like a laden is that. That's what that is. Uh, yeah, I can see that because that can, that can, that can. But that can change the reality for everybody. Yeah. And that, that to me, and what's great about that cartoon and that story, but in particular of the Disney adaptation, they made it very clear what the guardrails were. It's the whole three wishes only. You can't wish for more wishes. It may be, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe. Now you're, now you're convinced me to separate the two again because I think that's the problem you have with this movie is thinking that this movie is a wish movie.
And it is not a wish. But that's the problem is without the guardrails, that's why it sucks. Like if it had some guardrails, it would at least provide me with some depth. There's just no depth here. It's like on off, up, screwed up, say something different. Okay, I just, yeah, I just love that he hits undo and then doesn't ever try again. Yeah. And if all you want to do is control Z your way through life, that just gets boring really quick. And also, isn't it kind of assault what he did to her the first time? Oh, all of it. Yeah. Because the first time he said, I wish the girl downstairs was madly in love with me. And she comes upstairs and have sex with him. Well, but, but see, that was when their little, what should we call it, thing was broken. So he really, well, not really on though. No, the first time, the first time, the first friend talks her into going to see. Yeah, that's, well, that's not why she went though. Yes, it is. No, no, no, no, he's in bed. And he says, I wish, what's her name below me would come up? Waves his hand and a big bang and he goes, oh, that was fast. He goes to the door and she's like, let's go to bed.
Okay. You missed previously because they just said the alien said the power was turned off. They had a power outage. Yeah. He said would not have a fact. How they skirt his hand. That's how they skirt it. And that's the, that's the inception of me wanting this to be a romcom. She decided for herself to go shag him and he didn't know that. He's right. That she was being controlled by himself. And then there was some way that they realized it later. And I don't know how they, like they kind of hand-waved how they figured out that, that, oh yeah, right. That, that, that was my joke. That's really funny. It was completely unintentional fun. But, but they completely glossed over like how they figured out that she liked him without him using this power is on her. Yeah. He'll never, he'll never know. And I, that's the parts I like that I think that played differently for Scott possibly than me because I liked discovering how an impossible would handle God-like powers with
no guardrails and how does he react to that? And watching him, me almost yawning at the screen, hey, moron, don't do that. Or why didn't you undo this? I, I want to be in judgment of this character. That, that makes me feel like I'm part of the story. Yeah. I didn't give that to Scott and that's fine. It really didn't. I'll say this too. Like there's a, there's a crime almost. I don't know how you prosecute this. But it is a crime almost that you have one of the greatest comedic legends, multi-osker winner, genius performers, Robin Williams, his last movie of all time is this hot brick of shit. It, it happens so often with comedians, comedians often have a really bad stinker before they die. It just seems like it happens. It's a great example of that too. What was that? Wagon's East. Wagon's East. Yeah. Yeah. It's just how it goes, man. I'm going to say something controversial. I kind of like Wagon's. That's fine.
I don't love it. I don't love it. I'm not here to say it's great. I just, there are some moments in that I, I really like what's his name from curb, died recently, nervous guy, friend of Larry's, what was his name? Yes, he was in that show with Jamie Lee Curtis, any of what is his name? Shit. It was on Letterman all the time. Yeah. You know, you can like things that are objectionably. No, no, no, I know. You can like your own farts, even though other people like, yeah, that's not good. Yeah. Yeah. So a little bit of a well actually here. I just looked it up. So John Candy's last completed film was Canadian Bacon. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Oh, yeah. I don't know. I always heard Canadian American. But he died, but he died during the filming of Wagon's East and they still released it. I'm not going to release it. Oh, okay. So he didn't finish Wagon's East, but that was his last performance. Last thing was working on. So it kind of works both ways. Yeah. I always remember Chris Farley's was dirty work and like, it's not a good movie.
I just want to like it so bad. Every time it crosses my mind, I'm like, I haven't seen dirty work in 10 years. I'm going to watch dirty work. It's got to be good. It's got already lying. No, it's not good, Randy. That might be why I like. That might be why I like Wagon's East a little bit because I just, it's like, oh, the last John Candy. Yeah, absolutely. And that's okay. I'm going to forgive a lot of things. But you know what? I still don't like even though he's in it. The great outdoors. F that movie, that movie sucks. Yeah. We're going to agree to disagree because I love me some great. Outdoors. I love that movie. Black. Yeah. Black. Okay. You want it to like it? And it's, there's something about Dan Acroid. Dan Acroid always does better in lesser movies. There's something, I don't know what it is. But like, no, he does. Yeah. Because I think he can see elevates. He knows what he's in and he elevates it. Yeah. Gross, there's the greatest character of all time. Yeah. I want to hardly, I'd hardly call that a bad movie though. Right. Oh, no, I'm not. Gross Point Blank is one of the finest films ever.
But what I mean is like, give him, do it. Give him not main role. Your way better off. Give him main role. I think it's trouble. Less. But now they think about it. Hardly ever does that. Like, trading places and Ghostbusters are all collaborative actor events. Right. I like that. He likes it. He likes it. Yeah. And he's great. And of course, you're not a bitch. Of course, I'm a bitch. No, blues brothers, but you know whatever. Well, yeah. I mean, still, but he still, still him and blue sheet, right? Yeah. I hope, I hope you can agree that the great outdoors is better than absolutely anything. Oh, yeah. And that's just like, that's saying something. There's like, again, haven't they seen comedies? Like it's just so weird to me when a movie pops into existence like absolutely anything. And it's like, but, but look at past things. But it's not saying it's a little like saying, fresh dog poo is better tasting than really rancid, old, diseased camel poo. You know what I mean? Like that's how I feel about them. The dancing dog, what's it?
What's their score on dancing dancing dog poo in flesh and itself? What is it? Okay. I can tell you what gross me out the most. Oh, yeah, it was that detailed. It's the fact that it left that it left tracks on the ground. So I knew it was an effect. Obviously, it's CG. Yeah. You know, nobody's questioning that. And normally those things have zero effect on me. But what gross me out is a combination of it being all like in little segments. Yeah. Like it was very detailed. Yeah, somebody really looked at a dog turd and went, this doose is going on the camera. And then they, and then like Brian, it just said, left little footy prints as it went. Yeah. And then leaped into the thing and splashed in there. And then how dumb of a joke it is on top of that. Just, I felt gross. That's all I said. Yeah. And also, I don't know if you've ever had a dog poo in the house. But when anyone is at a dog, is that a dog poo in the house? When a dog drops one in the house, it doesn't matter where it is.
The entire house reeks. Like the stink is unbelievable in how it gets into every corner of her own. Literally permeates. And so like you could smell that scene is all I'm saying. Yeah. And they acted way too chill about the idea that in fact, I think there was some wrestling on that floor later on for some other scene. And I'm like, dude, there's little teeny footy, and footy prints from the day. Yeah, he didn't clean it. He didn't clean that. He didn't run the spot bot. Yeah. No, no. I didn't like that. That bothered me. But nothing else really grossed me out. It was just stupid. Yeah. You know, you might, you know, you'll find out what grossed me out the most and guessing you've got an audio clip. Oh, good. I bet I do. Now, I kind of think I might know what you mean. I bet you do. Yes. I've only got, here's the thing. There's so much dumb in this movie and so much zany. There's not a ton to collect. So I think I've got like nine clips is all. But I think I know the one you're talking about. Yeah. Yeah, I might have to meet the, I might have to meet audio while you're playing.
I'm hoping, I'm hoping you got some, some clips of like Simon Pegg and Sanjeev Baskar talking. They had great chemistry. Yeah, there was nothing in super interesting though. I feel like he had, I feel like he had good chemistry with Eddie Isard. Like I, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I've always wondered why there aren't more movies that have, you know, Eddie Isard as just an extra, another, another guy. I love it. I feel like that's all you kind of, I loved it. I loved it. He's great in this. He was a high point for me. I really like him in. What did I see recently? And it was a similar role. See if I can remember this. Oh, you know what it was. It was the, it's not that recent 2007. No, no, no, not oceans 13. What were my thinking of? Who are you talking to? I don't know. I don't know which movie I'm thinking of, but he was in something where I went. Man, that was great because he did that. I can't remember what it was. Yeah. Damn it. Well, forget it. I, I'll, I'll tell you that you're, I'm still stuck on the question.
You were like, tell me when you laughed out loud. I laughed out loud when he accidentally turned off all warmth on the earth. Oh, yeah. And then he's looking at the TV. And a commander of the British Empire, Dr. Brian Cox is wearing a cloak, talking about the weather. And so he reverses the wish. And then suddenly we have Brian Cox, the globally accepted top educator of science, explaining something. I was just like, this is so freaking funny. Why did, how did they not? You know, how did they not make more of this? Yeah, I agree. That stuff was like it, there's things in the shinges point to it and go, yeah, that's all right. Yeah. You know, and did I get to see, you know, or at least hear all the pythons back together one more time? Yes, I did. Yeah. Yeah. Was it great, memorable? No. But that's okay. It's fine. But if you isolate that part, that, that's pretty good.
Yeah, it was all right. They're arguing and their banter is all right. You know, the cleast being very cleast. Yeah. Right. Doing his deal. And then, you know, very diminutive little Michael Pailin over there trying to be nice. Right. Going, oh, I don't know. He's supposed to, like he's perfect at that. He was, in fact, he's credited as nice alien in here. And that's kind of his gig, right? I love that. Yeah. Any confusion for any of us when some in peg, with some in peg head with woman body naked, any killing. Oh, that's true for a minute. Yeah. Because I went, because here's what I thought about that. I thought, do you, do you show that and worry? Like it, it's somehow not, it's not offensive somehow because when you put his head on a hot lady body, suddenly, she's not really naked. It's hard to explain. It's not a change. It doesn't qualify as nudity if it's a dude's head on a woman's body. Plus I appreciate it. It was, it was a, an average person's looking body instead of some, you know, if it had
had been an 80s comedy, she would have had whatever size is the maximum size you can have for boobs. Right. Like I, I was barely paying attention to what I was seeing because I was realizing in that moment, oh, it's trick wishes. Oh, no. Yeah. Oh, of course. And now it makes sense when they said like no one has ever actually passed this test, like no one, no one can avoid evil. Of course, because it's so hard to make a wish work. You can, you can try to turn everything around. It is something else. Yeah. Yeah. I don't know. More you remind me about the wish problems more pisses me. Yeah. Yeah. Once again, like I said, I think I, I maybe it's a protective mechanism. I think I went right into it. I think I was having that question almost immediately as soon as he got his power. So I'm like, wait, are they saying this is like Bruce Almighty? Are they saying this is like a genie wish thing? And I think I resolved that in my head pretty early on and I just ignored whatever they said. Well, you'd have to to get past it because honestly, what happened to his hot, like speaking
of the body changing, what happened to the hot dude body? Yeah, yeah. You didn't wish it like a neck scene. You just went away. Yeah. He's just walking around with his butt crack out and I'm like, that's not the body you showed me in the, in the thing. Yeah. Yeah. I don't get it. Or go back to the lady, be that lady body. That was pretty hard. I can put my thumb up over his face and not look at it. Yeah. Jerry Springer for a while too. Sure. Why not? Any other thoughts, notes, feelings, confessions, anything at all? You guys would like to add before we go to our clips? No? No. No. All right then. All right. See, that's how you know a movie has got less. I've crossed all the things off my list. I think I'm just saying, I've said, I've probably said too much about this movie really to be honest with this. Yeah. What do you mean? Like, you just over, you've over. I've already said too much about this movie. Okay. Sometimes I give movies too much credit because I'm like, if I feel the, if I feel the reins going too far to the left or the right, I will try to, I will, I did write down
something that I wanted to mention. What's that? I did not turn on subtitles right away because I said, eh, accents are too heavy here. I probably can handle it. But after he said, you know, like aliens spaceship, blow up Tennessee. I was like, Tennessee and then a blue up a classroom and I'm like, something's not right. Oh, Tennessee. It's ten C is what he was saying. Blow up a ten C. I heard Tennessee. Yeah. And I think those guys also should have heard Tennessee and blown up Tennessee. Right. Right. So I had to roll back. That would have been a better, that would have been a better thing. He turns on the news and. Yeah. Yeah. And also there's a little bit might check in the bucket slash, getting in the sink for this movie is probably the friend because there's no resolution as to whether they're still friends. Right. I feel about the, how do we feel about the logic of turning him into a sausage? I think that might have been the hardest thing for me to accept was turning him into a sausage. I mean, I always dumb.
Yeah. Yeah. As a gag, it went on so long that I started hating it and I initially thought, oh, that's clever. They'll get, you know, they'll run down the street and then turn him back and then they're fine. So we got to go into a shop that has the exact same sausages. It was too much. Also they didn't make this clear. They made Rob Rigolet dog. Yeah. But they let him talk. Well, why? Right. This is, this is interesting. In the Wikipedia page, they said something about the ending to the plot that I disagreed with. They say that the, the Dennis dog, the dog still had the powers that he only wished to destroy the source of the powers, not the powers themselves. I said, no, I don't think that what you got you guys believe in the power. Yeah, he ended the movie with that's still had the power. Yeah, that's how it ended. But he didn't do anything with the power. He was just talking like, well, that's your character progression. You keep talking about that's where he ended up. He's like morally like, I'm just, I'm not going to use the power.
Morally corrupt. All right. Did he say the power? I didn't think he said he had the power. Maybe I missed it. I was just so excited. Maybe I just wanted to get out of there. Well, I mean, Dennis. Dennis, the only problem for Dennis at the end of the movie is that he can't wave a hand and speak clear English or he would be casting wishes all the time. Yeah, but I think there was a thing. Yeah, he had the power. I think was the idea. Yeah. Okay. I don't know. All right. I believe it. I did. That's not how I interpreted it at the end. I thought that whatever, whatever had, whatever had been put into motion with the powers, when the powers were destroyed, we're still in effect in movie. That's what I thought. This is a philosophical piece that lends itself to everybody's individual interpretation. Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you. That's why I said it said enough because I was heading towards that. Yeah. And we were, and I'm like, I've already said it now. We climbed the steep hills of Mount Dome and we threw the ring into Mount Dome. Yeah. Mount Dome has the ring.
We got back down. We're hobbits again. Everything's good. All right. Let's get to some clips then. I've got a few here and out of time. Here this again, just because I liked it. Absolutely. Seek that more of that out. I heard Bowie there for a second when I was listening to that. I was like, oh, definitely, definitely there. Plus it's just that vibe, right? Something he'd do. Yep. Do this with your bells. Come on, Dennis. Let's go and evacuate your bells. All right. Bow. Bow. Bow. Bow. Bow. Bow. Bow. Bow. Bow. Bow. Bow. Bow. Bow. Bow. Bow. Bow. There you go. There you go. You ended it. Yeah, he did. Yeah. And then they were French for a minute. That was kind of fun. I like that. That was actually an interesting way to take away the idea of, let's speak, the humans like Earth like there's multiple.
Yes. Yeah, there's multiples. And I like that. Is English the prominent language on Earth now? Or what's the ink? We're not. That's English, it's not the number one language. It's a number one. Esperanto. That's what I think is the number one language. Let me look it up here. Just for fun. I don't think we are the most spoken language. I don't think. I think if you count like bad English, right? Like if you count people who have learned a bunch of bad English to speak as a second language. Maybe second language is probably the most prominent. I found it. I found it. Total speakers. English is the most widely spoken in the world with roughly one per five billion total speakers. But that would include, you go to Paris and have most of the people speak English. Because they had to learn how to speak or learn how to speak. But as a native speaker, if you're counting just a native language, 930 million native Mandarin Chinese speakers. That's what I was thinking. So it goes English, Mandarin, Hindi, Spanish, and French in that order.
So in the context of it, Alien trying to speak a language, the most people will probably understand English. So I guess that tracks. And they made us take Spanish, French, and German. German is not even on this top list. Well, why didn't they teach us Hindi? Let's get that going. Right? I'm going to have a military base there, right? Is that the problem? That's probably the problem. That's how we do things here in the United States of these Americas. All right. Here. Check this out. That's why we have to pee on it from a great height. That was a bee story that never really resolved her whole book show and all that. Yeah. That might be the... Yeah, she's a kid in the sink. There's a whole litter in that sink. Right. He's having a dream. And then you're like, oh, he's going to get some powers and make that come true. No. Yeah. Yeah. Didn't happen. Here's a... Oh, I like this. Here's an Eddie Azard moment that I enjoyed. Here he is. He's a Ted Michael Jackson in it as well. As well. He is a world. I love him. Her, sorry.
She's doing her right now. Well, I saw her back in the day on that. What's the stand up concert DVD where it's a very blue DVD. I don't mean material. I mean, color. Right. And he's in... At the time he was dressed to kill. He's so freaking funny, dude. I recommend that to just about anybody I've ever met. If you want to see some great stand up that's just a little different than what you're used to, dress the kills incredible. I was still buying comedy DVDs and I have it in my cabinet here. Oh, it's so good. I have that one too somewhere. It's so good. I like that. What's your take on it right now, Randy? Comedy DVDs? Is it still something you pick up or? Oh, hell no. No, no, no. Oh, hell no. It was a very strong. Yeah, no, that's what a reaction. What a incredible waste of resources of space, of plastic, of cardboard. Look, Mr. Fine CRTs in the street.
I'm just asking. I know. So, you know, I'm just asking. Yeah, you're just asking. Which is more... Okay, let me just ask this. Let me be devil's advocate for just a second. Do it. The devil needs one today. Do it. Yeah, yeah. The devil's here. I'm going to be a little bit more of a bad guy. And, Randy, by all means, save the plastic. What about that one comedy you watch 100 times a week and stream through the internet that takes all the water up? What do you think about that? That's a renderer. No, that's an absolutely good question. The bigger part of getting away from like old physical media for me is degradation. I have already experienced checking out, yeah, some 30-year-old discs. And they're like glitchy as hell. Just to describe as serious, man. I've got a couple of things I need to get transferred or they're going... Most of my DVDs are good. There are a few. And typically, I know what they are because you can look online.
There's resources everywhere that says the ones are the most likely to have discrot. And obviously, I mean, those are the ones I check the most. Trading out for hard discs is not necessarily an improvement. I have hope that SSDs are going to be much longer lived. But even then, like backup your stuff, folks. It's not worth risking, especially like family photos and stuff. There's no good way to do it. You got a three-factor backup everything. Is my personal take? Three different. Yeah, I have a local backup. I have the drives that are on. So it's actually four. Drives are on backup drive locally. And then two cloud-based backups. Is my method for anything I can do about madness. Right. All the art files, all the show files, all my, like, said family photos and important stuff like that. And that all gets better. And I am not... It's interesting how people can take a physical debate.
A debate about a physical thing and turn it into a personal feeling. Right? And I've just like, I've never had that. I'm not for or against people doing a thing. Like, there's just like a better way for me that doesn't have to do with trying to preserve DVDs or VHS tapes or whatever. You know what I mean? Yeah. It's so easy to say, oh, well, that makes you a kind of person. And I always want to say, no, it doesn't. Not really. Like, you could be a kind of person. And I could be a different kind of person in your reckoning. But I'm not saying that at all. This is definitely a, well, it's a long-term problem. But I think it's real obvious in our social media because you have any idea how long I spend on every message. That should just be a passing thought. It's like, oh, remember this movie or something like that.
I'm just going to toss out there and go, wait, let me make sure that somebody's not going to be pissed that I've said, remember this movie. You know what I mean? And it's I have to kind of go in and go, oh, you know, let me frame this for you. The context is. Yeah, it's exhausting. I'm remembering this, it is exhausting. It's exhausting that you can't. But then also it's like, I could just ignore it. Yeah, that's true. If we did more of that, people would do the former less. Right. But it's hard, obviously. It triggers a tough. It's tough, it's tough, it's tough, it's tough, it's existing and modern existence. Yeah, yeah. Alright, so that's all I had to say. Well, so thank you so much, Randy, for sharing your take on that. Yeah. Yeah, all good. Hey, check this out. Here's the sound I think that Brian, if it doesn't like. Oh, he came back too soon. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We were stalling for time. Yeah, I appreciate it. You got to hear it. Here you go. Was that that? It was a dog, the dog yak and that's the whole work. Oh, no, wasn't that? It was a Simon Pegson. They're eating without, like while he's reading books, he's loudly, loudly chomping on food
for what feels like minutes, but probably is all you have to do. Oh, man, see, this is when it's good to have misophony or whatever it is. Right. Because then you notice this shit. I didn't even notice that. Wow. Wow. I'm going to claim that my tinnitus is reducing the effect of my misophonia. Oh, interesting. Maybe I need to get some of that. Get some of that tinnitus. I need to get some of that tinnitus or tinnitus. I got the tinnitus just from going a lot of concerts as a kid, but no, your protection. That worked. This conversation is giving me tinnitus. All right. Yeah. Let's do this one. Oh, this is, I mean, this kind of made me smile. I didn't really laugh at anything, but here's this. You're choose to say me rather than that bitch. Yeah. That was kind of. Because you know dogs, they call. Yeah. Yeah, you get the joke. Yeah, that's pretty good. Yeah, joke. Here's the other Brian Cox in our lives, not the actor, but the, well, I guess this makes him a bit of an actor that he's in this. But Brian Cox, the astrophysicist, also former rock guitarist, I believe, he makes a
cameo. A short time ago, scientists were afraid of constantly rising global temperatures. That dude's great. And this was before he got his orders and became a member of the Royal Society. It's like they knew he, they knew he was on his way. Mm-hmm. Yeah. No, I guess his shows are so good. I have the reason I do Britbox occasionally is I just want to binge on his documentaries. They're so good. Yeah. You know what? And I don't Britbox is those plates that kind of place where I subscribe occasionally. And it's also the one of the few emails that they'll send me stuff to remind me of things they don't block. I don't unsubscribe. I'm like, yeah, you can, you can visit me. Yeah, you can, I'll, I have no problem with those. Yeah, I do the same. That's funny. Yeah. Because some of them I'll just be like delete, go. Yeah, stop, stop talking to me. Yeah, I don't want to hear it. But Britbox wants to say, hey, remember us, we have faulty towers and no one else does. Come here. Yeah. Yeah. I'm like, okay. Every, every couple of years he does a little series for BBC two. And the most recent one is called solar system.
I highly recommend it. I'm really good. I've seen it. It's very, very good. Is it about aliens in space and a giant squid ship? No, but I mean, he basically, like if you can pick somebody who's truly the Carl Sagan of our day, who's not Carl Sagan, because Carl Sagan was one of a kind and never, no one will ever really match up. Right. Right. I think it's this guy. Like some people want to say it's Nail, Nail the Grass Tyson. Nail the Grass Tyson. Not Tyson? Tyson spends too much time mugging and going to like podcast and kind of being a little, kind of an ass. Wow. He's a little assy, a little, a little assy. Yeah. Whereas Brian Cox just gets up, talks like how it is. He's very chill about it. And he's also a great foil on those gunk, or gunk movies. Those gunk movies. He's fantastic. Oh my gosh. Yeah. And we just, we love that. We love that when a serious scientist and, and like leader of education, you know, dames to be the butt of a joke. Yeah. That's fun. Yeah. And he fits in.
Yeah. But he keeps it like really focused on like facts and stuff. Nail the Grass Tyson drives me up a tree somewhere. Wow. Okay. That is some, I did not know you had stronger paintings. It's a presentation thing. Like what? That's fine. It's how he does, he decides to do it. And I just like the more, I like a chill scientist who's not trying to entertain me. I just want to say for our purposes, Nail the Grass Tyson is still like the, the most entertaining because he made two seasons of Cosmos. And they are the best. Like I love it. If you're, if you're like, hey, I only have time before I die to watch a couple of science documentaries, please watch the two. I agree that they are excellent. And I loved all the Carl Saga ones. But I would feel I would be much happier if Brian Cox was the guy doing that show. That's all I'm saying. It's okay. You don't have to, you don't have to. I don't know. He's telling me it's okay. I know.
It's okay. It's okay. I think too many people get very upset about that. It's okay not. I'm not upset about it. I just think Brian Cox is a better choice. That's all. I just like you, like you have to explain why and I'm like, is fine. Is it okay? Is it okay though? Absolutely. Here's our final clip. This is, I don't know what it is. I'll just play it. Oh no, this is Simon Pegg and toward the end of the thing. Absolutely power. It doesn't corrupt. It just drives you bloody mad. All right. That's the lesson. Sums up the film really well and that level of comedy. Yep. Well, and again, imagine if this movie had more introspection like that, right? Just talk about what you're experiencing and less make the dog fall out of window. Yeah. Yeah. Even that quote starts like it's going to be something impressive. Yeah. It's going to be, oh, this is going to be good. This is going to be, oh. And then it's just like, no, it drives you bloody mad. That's the, you know what happens to a toad struck by lightning? It's that. It's like, oh, here it comes.
All right, storm, what you got? Yep. Same as everything else. So, I'm going to let down. All right. Brian, it's okay that you don't like it. No, it's really okay. And it's okay that I like it. No, it is. Really. Yeah. I think it should be, I think it's a default position that we all know that it's okay though. Is what I'm saying. Yeah. Everything's okay. People, we'll talk about it earlier while you as a way about this apprehension we sometimes have about posting the social media unless we contextualize it in such a way that we can avert any type of, you know, criticism about our very simple statement. It's like it may be as simple as I like potatoes. And it's like, oh, shit, I better put in here. I like potatoes because I'm Irish. I don't know. Something something is qualified. Yeah. So that someone doesn't come back and go, well, you know potatoes are the reason why we don't have any hopes on it or something. It's like you're like, so it's okay. If you like it, you're defining a milkshake duck. Right. Right.
We're all, we've all come to become very afraid of invoking a milkshake duck. I want to meet the guy though who goes, all right, potatoes are why are the others on layers messing? Well, I mean, like I said, I feel like everybody needs a soothing, calming, nois, okay, it's okay. It's okay. No, we get it. I think you're, I mean, you're, I think the intention is good. I like it. Here's something else that's okay. The checklist. This movie has the following film, sack checklist, bad check, stupid check. Zany to a fault check. Tuzany, Tuzany. Yeah. Uh, Star Trek and MCU connections. I know of at least one. Yeah, let's start with MCU and come back because MCU is kind of weird. It's one of the rare movies where it was made fairly recently, but we don't really have a lot going on in Marvel. We have an actor named Judd Charlton who played the mortician in the undead scene who played
a character named street worker in Spider-Man brand new day. We have Mira Sile who played a character named Fiona. I do not know who Fiona was in this one. That's her friend, right? Was it the friend who gets her all worn up? Must have been the friend she was drinking with. Okay. Well, she was Dr. Patel and Dr. Strange. Rosie. Don't know. Um, out. She's, she's, uh, yeah, she's, uh, Fiona face. Yeah, Mira is like all, but I, I can't remember what part she was playing. Anyway, it is not important. She was Fiona and she had a small role in Dr. Strange. And then we also have Ronan Summers who played security man in this movie. Don't know, but. Oh, I know who Fiona is. Sorry. Yeah. Is it the friend she? No, she's the, um, uh, the, the, the neighbor, um, the, the, the one this yelling and kisses her. Yeah. That's what I see her face now. She's also by the way. Oh, yeah. By the way, an example of something I thought went really well in this movie.
The neighbor who doesn't like the dog barking ends up getting kissed ends up kind of being alright with it. Like, okay. Yeah, that, that feels like it shouldn't be good anymore. But, but it's, but the way, the way that's portrayed is like a different movie. It's, it's not this movie. Yeah, somehow. Yeah. There's a way there at the door. That's her. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, yeah. All you have to do is kiss her and, uh, that's so nice. You just, uh, yeah. Which you learn to hear is that the, the person who lives above you loves you. That's, that's how that works. Oh, yeah. But only one of them can remove the ceiling and stare at you while you're doing your clothes and your, and your bra. So, like that. The third is Ronan Summers. Ronan Summers is a security man in this movie and he is the guard in guardians of the galaxy who says drop the leg. Oh, yeah. Oh, it's a cool role to, I'm gonna need that leg. Yeah. And so, uh, anyway, Star Trek connections, we have one. And I mean, there aren't even any crew in this movie who were in anything Star Trek.
I, I presume because it was made entirely in England or something. Um, we got Simon Pegg. Simon Pegg is, how does it say that? How does it say that? It is our Scotty, uh, in, in the three, uh, what's the universe called? The Kelvin, Kelvin, Kelvin Universe. Kelvin, yeah. Scotty. Um, I, I have, I was asking myself, and now that we have multiple different, uh, actors who've played Scotty, where do I put Simon Pegg? And I, I kind of have to put him at the bottom. He's not Scotty for me. Hmm. I like him as it. I think he's all right. I mean, I don't know who else to pin that on. I mean, obviously, you know, OG, the first Kelly, uh, I'm not the first Kelly. No, that's, that was bones. Uh, I'm just saying Simon Pegg is English. Yeah. Not Scottish. Yeah, but Jim Doohan, James Doohan was not English. He wasn't Scottish either. He was, he was like me and you.
He's America. Sure. Well, I don't know if I, if I think he's my favorite. I'm, I'm actually willing to entertain. Well, what other ones are there? Are there others? Um, the strange new world's guy. I was trying to think of the, uh, what's his name? Oh, God. Oh, I must be so far behind in that show that I've not met him yet. Oh, I feel terrible because I like maybe I was remembering stuff. I was just saying, you see current season. I've seen him because I don't think I've seen him. Um, maybe not. All right. So, yep. So, uh, Mark Quinn, Jesus, God, Martin Quinn, Martha Quinn from MTV is amazing as my mom's name. And I'm, I'm almost ready to say he's better than, uh, oh, I have seen this thing a little OG. Yeah. That's right. I thought I saw him. Did he make a brief appears in the earlier ones too? Then the, he's been on, he's been on stretch in the world for years, guys. Yeah. That's what I was thinking. I've seen him. He showed it before. Well, I'm, I'm like two seasons behind. So I don't know if that's enough to me.
Oh, it's so good. I want you to know the current season of strange new worlds is the best. And it's so good. I keep hearing like people love this season or are annoyed with it. Well, there is, I hear that there's one specific episode that is annoying people. Is it the moment? There's an online, you know my, yeah, the one I hear it's the puppet one is what I hear. Yeah. The moment there's, there's also a theme. I'm episode where they all slip into a film noir TV show. I'm alright with that. I'm alright with that. It was, it was real good. That's the thing. Even when they do weirdness, it's so good. Yeah, I don't have a problem with them going this way. Like people get real critical of it. I'm like, dude, if you've seen season one of TNG, good lord. Right. Like these, these shows when they're at their best are throwing shit at the wall. Let them, let them cook. Yeah. Right? No big deal. By the way, there's another Scotty. It's a low. A las la cuis. He voiced Scotty in the animated series Star Trek Lower Decks. Oh, okay.
Yeah, okay. And, and Lower Decks is, you know, animated so it's all voices, but some of the voices are so good. Yeah. So Simon Pag, Martin Quinn, Chris Dewyn, James Dewyn's son is, he's in that Star Trek continued wedding thing. What's he doing? It's some wedding thing. Okay. And then this car low sky. So that's it. What's he do, Han? He's do Han lots of things. Let's get back to this. Those were our connections. Let's get to our soundtrack grade and give it a W for whatever. I'm not really sure if I remember much other than that cool song at the beginning. They're also just sort of, that's good. Zany and... Yeah. It has, it has some like run of the Mill orchestrations. There's not like a theme for this movie or something like really memorable. So I think you're absolutely right. It made me wonder once again, what if man, what if this movie had been scored by somebody and like it had some drama to it? Yeah.
Like good score. And whatever they had, there was fine. It just, this is not memorable. I still remember much about it. All right. Let's get down to the social media posts. Now, here's how this works. In 280 characters or less, you guys have to sum up your thoughts on this film. And we're gonna start this week with Brandy. Absolutely anything. Simon Pegg should be fine in this. Rob Riggle is always a miss. Kate Beckinsale could bring good luck. Monty Python's final film sucked. Oh, not wrong. Heard's not wrong. I mean, there were lots of partials, right? Because you had like both the zoo one and the... We just talked about it. The Jamie McCurters movie. It's wrong with me. Fish call one. Fish call one. Both of those were, you know, pale and in police and then you had others where there'd be crossovers, but just getting them all in the same room minus Graham Chapman who passed way 94. I mean, my gosh.
And to be clear, when I said Rob Riggle is always a miss, I mean, his appearances in this movie, every time he shows up in a scene, I'm just like, uh, get him out of here. Agreed. Put him in more things, but not this. Riggle on outta here, dude. Um, all right. Let's now move to Brian Dunnoway's version of this. Absolute anything, but this. Hashtag Walking Poo. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Hashtag Walking Poo is amazing in any context. I love that. All right. And finally, Brian Ibbitt. Absolutely anything. The two things this movie needed more of, biscuits and shagging. Yeah. Yeah. I've gone for a little more. The two things that Dennis says that dogs think about all the time. Also, the Dennis, the dog is a reference to an old like Python skit, right? Wasn't there something? I saw the trivia saying Dennis was a name used in a couple of money Python skits. I'm like, yeah, they used a lot of names. They were right, right. It felt like weird trivia to me, but I guess they considered Dennis to be a funny name.
And it was tied to it specifically to a dog. Like, I can't remember the skit that it was like, well, the dog, the dog's name Dennis, that line rings for me and I cannot tell you where I've heard it. Are you talking about Indiana Jones? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Just make a sure, just make a sure you're losing your way. No, there's something. Someone's going to write in about this and I'll appreciate it. It's the Holy Grail, right? They can counter this old woman. This old woman. And he goes, man, you called me a woman. I'm a man or whatever. And then he says, oh, yeah. Yeah. The dog's name Dennis. Yeah. That's it. Okay. Okay. But it's not an old woman. It's a guy who says he's 37 years old. I'm 37. Right. You know what I'm going to do? It's time for another. It's time for the right. I know. I am in the mood for all three of those dude. And our local theater ran it this summer and I missed it. I didn't see it until the week after and I was like, ah, whip. Most quote, when I was in high school, there were two things people could quote constantly.
And it was Holy Grail lines and Cosby records. That was it. I was college. If you went to college and when you start running to people from different backgrounds, that's when I first started seeing like Monty Python stuff. I didn't get exposed to it until then. That culture wasn't there. I saw it. I think the first time for me was like PBS late at night when they would run those British comedies on PBS. And it was the first time I'd ever seen a boob on TV. I could always stay up that late. So all I got was the fourth doctor. I got that one. Nothing wrong with that. But I got that. If you get to get one, that's the one to get. Yeah, reruns of that, Benny Hill and then eventually things like are you being served like all that whole era of I really do love British comedy. This was not that this movie. It had had pieces of it. Yeah, it had the makings just nobody knew how to stir it and cook it right. Mm hmm. Way to go guys. All right. Where are we? Oh, Brian Abbott. Don't you already said it? Yeah, I did.
Do it again. Do it again. Two things to move you need more biscuits and check. Oh, there it is. The business is a shaggy. There you go. Shaggy biscuits. Well, then let's get to that. Also in the title is just sitting there waiting to be told. This was almost called absolutely not. All right. Or Monty Python and the Holy Mistake. Oh, I really just like hurts a little bit. Yeah. So nibbett came to me earlier in the week and said, oh boy, you're in for you know, you were kind of giving me some warnings. Usually I'll go in and go, oh yeah, I see what he means. It's okay. You know, like I just not that bad. You undersold. I know. I know. And I didn't want to. I didn't want to taint. I think I even used that word. I didn't want to take your opinion at, you know, by saying, oh my God, this was the worst, one of the worst things I remember seeing in the last year, probably since. Oh, major doom. Well, and I think you hinted that you would, this is, this is a theater. This is a get up and leave. Yes. I do. Wow. And I think I agree. I think I wouldn't have made it.
Yeah. I think I would have been, depends on how much my ticket cost because I get weird about that. It's like if it's a fishing dollar ticket, I'm not getting up. I'm staying through the bitter end. But this does feel, because the only movie I ever walked out of was a fine mess with Ted Danson and what's his name? That's a fine mess. You got me into how we mandell terrible movie. I walked out of it. It reminded me of this. I think almost exactly like this. You know how you don't like Neil to grass Tyson? Yeah. It's not I don't like him. I like Brian Cox better. Okay. Yeah. So how are you Mandel? I don't like how he Mandel is. I think he peaked at Bobby's world after that. I'm like, I think he peaked at St. elsewhere. I'm all giving you a say. I think you peaked with a stand up and that's about the only thing that people like his podcast. I guess like it's Bob. Yeah. The surgical gloves up over his head and stuff. Yeah. I just want to say I am glad that we sacked this. And yeah, absolutely. A big part of that for me is we've done some real stinkers in the past.
And so it sets a level for me, right? Like the fact that we suffered through Star Crash or Super Snooper, like it gives me the ability to see a movie like this and pick out what is actually entertaining. Like the bits of it where I'm okay. And you know, I wouldn't ever be able to do that if we didn't occasionally watch bad movies. Yeah. I watched a ton of subpar comedies that I just went, well, it's a comedy. I laughed a couple of times. I'm good. I mean, that's all I needed. But those are my reasons I wasn't watching with a critical eye. It's also rare here on the show. We don't usually do comedies. We will make exceptions. And this, this I think I am also glad. So I say all of that. I'm glad we sacked it because it gave us this like fish called Wanda versus this kind of thing where I can really think about the comedies we've done and why we've done them. And of course we would do this. The pythons are back. They're together. It's significant.
There's discussion around that. Just turns out it's shitty. That's all. Yeah. Chitty. Let's move on. Is it is a walking poo? It's a walking poo. It's like it's part of my whole thing about people who are so precious with their time. If you love movies, you gotta watch some bad movies. And I understand if you're busy, it's fine. But you gotta watch some bad movies to understand the full range. Right. Yeah. I got to see a bad movie. I didn't know what it tastes like. That's right. It tastes like the stuff that's coming up for too much longer. Right? The stuff. Is the stuff coming up? Oh my god. I don't know. I think you guys know what the stuff is. But because to me, the stuff is VHS box cover number one that I would walk past and know that my parents wouldn't let me get. We need to watch it. We've had that request for a really long time. Okay. I'm just saying.
All right. I'm in deep. I'm in the proposition. I am petitioner for it. Randy's done an amazing job at picking things. And I just saw that. Remember it and just thought out through it. It's streaming on both Tooby and the free prime stuff they do with the commercials. And it's free on YouTube. It's free on YouTube. It's free on hoopla. Like if you're again, if you like movies, you've got some of this stuff. Let's do this. Let's get it in for one of the sack tovers. I know we've kind of got it put in there. Is it a horror movie? Yes. It's categorized as one. It says a delicious, mysterious goo that oozes from the earth is marked as the newest desert sensation. But the tasty tree rots more than teeth when zombie like snackers only want to consume more of the strange substance at any cost, begin infesting the world. That sounds horish. It is. Horish. It is. Horish. Horish. Horish. And it's a relatively serious, you know, Patrick O'Neill, Michael Moriarty, Paul Sorvino, Danny Ayello. These are like, you know, actors who act on purpose.
You're right. Yeah. Not that we listen to the audience, but you know, if people out there and they want to cost, you know, just toss in a message saying petition. Petition. It does say it has dark humor as part of it, but it is definitely a horror movie. No, I think we squeeze it in. As a kid, I just loved movies like this, like the late 70s to mid 80s time frame. And I'm just talking about the blob. The, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the blob. You know, that's, that's what this kind of is. It's kind of got that, it's kind of got that. Yeah. If we do rotten tomatoes, which we did, not rotten tomatoes, attack of the killer tomatoes of them. This is right up the, right up the butt. Right. Right in that same category. Yeah. For sure. I think we're okay. Let's get to this email. Got one from before you get to the email, alternate titles game. Oh, shit. Yeah. This is what we would do that. Thank you for reminding me. That's what I'm here for. Thank you, Jamie. Goes out to Jamie for putting these together and for Brian for conveying them to us. We're going to start with number one. And the goal, I guess, is we have to try to figure out what movie this was.
Brian has the answers, but he doesn't look until we know that I don't even look at the dates. He doesn't have those hidden, but I don't like the dates until we're ready for him either. Excellent. Here's question number one, coughing tiger dying dragon or a merit Chan history X. Oh, that was a retort. Okay. All right. So Jackie Chan, Jackie Chan Tiger, deadly a Jackie Chan movie, right? Yeah. I'm a police. Play it again. Okay. Oh, do I have to hear myself do that again? There we go. coughing tiger dying dragon or a merit Chan history X. All right. So that recent ish Jackie Chan movie we watched the. Yeah. That's for us. The most serious one. Accidental spy. That's it. Yeah. And that sounds very much like a more recent Scott. So that definitely that's true. Yeah. It doesn't sound like the younger Scott. Oh, no. That's not the one I'm thinking of. That's a comedy. We didn't watch that. Right.
The one the serious one where he's now there's police story. He did is at the. The foreigner. The foreigner. The foreigner. Right. I think it's the foreigner from 2000. Give us another clue. I think that's it. Yeah, I think you're right. But let's have another clue. All right. All right. A movie release date 2004. Oh, it's not the foreigner. That's too much. Oh, yeah. The foreigner was like 2017 or 2018. Right. 2004. Hmm. Yeah. I think it's a little bit April 2017 if that helps, but probably won't. That would have been around the time he was going around the world, right? Nine years when he was he was going around the world with Owen Wilson. Did we watch that one around the world? Yeah. Did we see that would be that time frame, right? Super cop maybe trying to think what else is out there. Wasn't there one where him and. Is it Jennifer love you? Around that time too. Oh, the Tuxedo. Yeah, the Tuxedo. Maybe. We didn't do the Tuxedo. No. No, the one with Owen Wilson isn't. Oh, you're thinking, you know what you're thinking of?
What's that called? The. Not the. Keep saying foreigner. The Shanghai Shanghai. Shanghai Nights is what you're thinking of. Shanghai. Noon. I don't think it was called. Or is it Nights? Well, there is Shanghai Noon was a was a old West set one and Shanghai Nights was in China. The only film that it comes close to. I don't know. It is around the world in 80 days. So that's my guess. All right. I'll get you know what I'll say. I'll say that too. I yeah. That's what I feel like. What do we got? It is around the world. 80 days. Yeah. Yeah. That had a Schwarzenegger in it in a tiny role because he got the governorship and they many couldn't act anymore. So he like popped in there for five seconds. Yeah. It meant he couldn't act. Yeah. That is a very broad thing to say about Arnold. Although Kim set out for whatever reason the other night and was watching True Lies, he's pretty damn good in True Lies. Yeah.
Acting was amazing. Yeah. Yeah. He's not throwing that shit in in that movie. Somehow Cameron got it out of it. I don't know how. You got the right. Yeah. You got the full Schwarzenegger out of it. Yeah. I mean, if you missed it, it's FilmSack 576. That's right. Um, now number two. Let's see how we do here. ATBA means all the bad accents or quote, nobody put Bruce Campbell in a bucket. Oh, that was both me and that was both me and Scott in our younger years. So is it Boba Houtab with Bruce Campbell or is it hard? That's really good. Yeah. I need another. I need another. With the accents. I don't think it's an evil. Let's do this play it again. ATBA means all the bad accents or quote, nobody put Bruce Campbell in a bucket. Oh. Yeah. Yeah. Because we would have accents if it was an evil dead film. So I was like, I'm like, is this black Hawk down when you talk about accents, but then no, although Bruce Campbell.
Bruce Campbell. Yeah. Bruce Campbell. Can we get one other? It doesn't hurt us to get through the year. A movie release date 1995. Oh. That's me. Two early. Early. Oh, wait. Is that direct to sci-fi channel piece of shit? Oh, the both of the B. The B. Hi, a giant alien beast. Yeah. Or what the graph was that? What was that? Yeah, it was alien encounter or alien alien. It was definitely alien. It was the first we'd ever done in one of those. Yes. Yeah. He's in the news, by the way, because I guess his cancer is so intraminal. I'm on something else entirely. I'm curious what the last clue is because I'm on a totally different guess. Oh. It looks like March 2014 is the year. Yeah. It's going to last a little bit of fire for me. I know what this is. Could it be? Was he in the... I don't know. No. It's not that. It is not that. Oh, it's great. It's not that alien. It was alien. It was alien.
They're, they're, they're just thinking. Oh. You know what? The accent thing just made me think of 1995. I always think of this movie anyway, but I'm going to say quick in the dead. Oh. Okay. It's, it's got to be Congo. Yeah. It's got to be Congo. And it's got to be all the all those Campbell in a bucket movies full of terrible accents. We did both those movies, right? Quick in the dead. I can't go. Yeah. Yeah. Love it too. It's film sack 197 Congo. Oh, hey. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I hardly remember him in that, but I don't remember. I still don't remember. Well done, Randy. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's one of those movies that I found myself watching every now and then. All right. Here is question number three, our final question. This movie was almost called if you can believe it. Deep impact too. You thought the media was bad or game of drones. Oh, Scott.
Trones. What, what microphone thing was that? Like, was that, did you borrow that from an FM radio? Sure feels like it's some kind of shitty old logitech thing from a, from a new egg store. Right. Wow. Well, it's the first half of that. Yeah. Let's do that again. A drone. This movie was almost called if you can believe it. Deep impact too. You thought the media was bad and then game of drones. Yeah. So it's not Armageddon because Armageddon didn't have anything to do with drones. No, there's no, that was my first thought too, but I don't think there's any drones. I'm going to watch something with a with like the moon was like. Yeah. Yeah. Moonfall. Base. Oh, is it moonfall? Yeah. I don't know why it's more recently. Scott's microphone was, it was, it wasn't that bad recently. Yeah. Moonfall's like 2023 or two or, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't, why don't we do at this time of year? Yeah. Movie released a 2019. Oh, that's newer than I thought. Yeah. Probably smokes where you on vacation's got because one's hard.
It sounds like I always get the pandemic or something. Maybe it was real recent. Well, 2019 was the movie. Okay. I mean, maybe it was like real recent as far as, um, film sack recording date August 2020. So that was during the pandemic. Oh, the pandemic was probably the reason why. Okay. Well, it shouldn't be why my, my mic sounded like shit. I've seen my, Scott had to work from home. I don't know. Yeah, that shouldn't have made any difference. Oh, you think he was wearing a mask? No. I wasn't wearing a mask. Okay. So that puts, that puts that weird moon movie, moonfall back into the play. It kind of does. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Totally ditches because that was one of my early songs because I did the REM. Okay. All right. My weird tendency to note years for things is really weird because even that movie, I should know that, but that's like 2020. That would make sense, right? Like, oh, the media was bad. The moon is worse. Yeah. Yeah. And I don't think that could be it. I can't think of anything else, but you guys keep.
I honestly, I don't have a good answer. I want to, I want to make a guess. All right. And my guess is, Angel has fallen. Okay. Yeah, because there's a lot of drones in that. That's about the time we've done. Yeah. That's the only thing is yeah. And because you would have drones. What did we have any Armageddon actors in that movie? No, but we have a deep impact actor in Angel's house. Yeah. Yeah. Because we're going to frame that. That's what I was thinking. That movie. But Game of Thrones. You got to think like Scott. I wouldn't recommend it. We must have some Game of Thrones actors there, maybe. I don't, I don't remember, but I'll, I'll tell you what my, my, my year brain says 2019 is right for the release of that film. That sounds right to me. Yeah, yeah, that sounds right. And we recorded it in 2020. So a year later, I also remember thinking Angel's fallen. It was really good compared to the other ones. I liked it. Right. That's my guess. All right. All right. You know what? I'm going to say that too, just so I have a guess. I'm sticking with moonfall just because. It's just a lot.
Just a lot. If the meteor is bad, the moon is worse kind of thing and those full of drones. The answer is film sack 476. Angel has fallen. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So wait, when did I'm going to look this up? Moonfall. Yeah. 2022 came out. Okay. Okay. Nice. That movie felt like it came out in 2002. I think you're also, I think you're also titles work better for moonfall. You're not wrong. You're not wrong. Angel has moonfall. Angel. I'm not talking about, because I want to watch a Gerard Butler movie. I'm kind of in the mood. I want to see the green. I want to see Greenland, too. And I'm holding off, because I have a feeling we'll do it. Oh, we definitely going to do that. We did the first one. Didn't we? Or did I just see that? I don't know. I liked it but I like the first one. I think they watched it separately. I don't think we did it for a. Get your boxer in and out. Maybe not. Yeah, sure. I don't know what that is. Oh, he's watching chasing Mavericks.
Is it when I'm trying to find a good gas station on my way to Vegas? And all I can find are Cummins goes away. Yeah, what's going on? Let's see chasing Mavericks. Yeah. Do you like their Johnny Weston and Elizabeth? Shoot. Shoot. I don't know. I don't know this 2012 film at all. Mm-hmm. But you've got me. Oh, IMDB gives it a 7.1. That's high for IMDB. That is. It is. IMDB. Put it on the list. I tell you, like, not a bit of a ssena, but you have. I don't know if we should sack it though. Okay. It's not a, it's not got a lot. I don't. That's okay. That's okay. It's not got a lot of. I was doing done away. It's okay. It's okay. It's all right. You know, you say we could go watch it on our own and have a good time with it. Oh, yeah. All right. I mean, it's a good, it's a legit good movie, but it's very small. It's not, it doesn't set out to say or do anything. It's just a very small movie. Action film. It's about, it's a surfing movie.
Oh, here we go. Extreme sport, water sport. Hello. Biography, drama and sport. Those are the categories. Way to go sport. A lot of sports. Yay sports. All right. Well done. Yay. Now to the emails. Big. And thank you again, Jamie, for those. Those are awesome. And Brian, for his conveyance. That's a question. Yeah. Got two emails today, film sackageemail.com. Bernie Walter informs us that triple X return of Xander cage is on prime. He says, that's right, but only till the end of the month. Definitely worth sacking. So, you know, we could think about it. If it's only here till the end of the month, though, it's tricky. Sounds like it's out of any to add it for next summer's action. Or maybe whenever it shows up again. Yeah. I for sure didn't see this because when this came out, I went, oh, we're not watching that till that's out. That's where this. No. Same. That's for this show. So, we will do that, Bernie, if that is your own. Yeah. We actually do have room.
Okay. Well, it's all triple X. It's triple X is return as ender cage. 21% of the 5%. 5%. James wrote in and says, Scott, Brian and Randy, longtime listener all the way back to ELR, second time emailer. I love the old, the old schoolers. Yeah. Yeah. It says, I want to propose an alternative to disaster December as a theme a month. You want to call it mayhem. Oh. So, do it may. Mayhem. Mayhem. Yeah. He says, I think that works really well for disaster movies and opens it up to the field for even more than that. Love the show, James. James, we agree. That's a great one. It's pre-hot action summer. I think that's great. So, you have my ADHD brain wants to immediately say, well, what does June sound like? What does July do? I do. Like, I want to do every month like this, but I probably shouldn't do that. You know, let's take it as it goes. You know what mayhem coming up May 2027, catch it. Perfect. Catch it. Does disaster movies, airport 77, whatever. It doesn't mean for the rest of the year, we can't sprinkle them in, but we'll get
real specific that month. That's fun. All right. Thank you both of you for your emails, filmpsackageemail.com. If you'd like to send us a text or a voice mail, you can do that at filmpsack.com. You can also support us on Patreon like this dude named Jerry Yanders. Jerry. That's a cool last name. Yanders. Almost Jerry Yanders. I know. Yeah. And think about it. Good call. Yeah. He is not Jerry Yandering. He is absolutely keeping a fair map as what he's doing. Yanders now gets no commercials ever. Pre-show content every week. Specials on the monthly like that recent one from Denoway. Fantastic work, by the way. No, thank you very much. I think I'm up next month. I think. I have to be. It's been too long since. You got to be. It's got to be time for the Johnson. It is next month. We are now. We're in the month, right? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, we're in it. Yeah. So this month you'll get something for me. I have a couple ideas. So we're going on that. Anyway, movie related art prints for me in the mail if you're at the right level and other cool benefits. Sign up today. Our next movie is Capricorn 1 from 1978 and I am beyond excited about us. Move to that movie growing up. Don't know if it holds up, but man, absolutely not. Can't wait. I feel like we've had it in the extended list of possible movies for an over a decade. Easily. Easily. I mean, it's got OJ Simpson. I am sold. Yep. Yep. That's enough for me. Yep. Four things went to shit and you started killing people that we know right. It is a great thing of its time. I'm so excited. That's the Armageddon of it's era. Kind of. Good call. The 70s. This is what the 70s did and it's right here right here before us. Where is it streaming Randy? Do you have that handy? It's on prime. We're in the midst of a long streak of prime movies. There's something going on where Amazon Prime just bottom all. Hmm. And it's just every week. Got it by a long week. Was it was absolutely anything also free on YouTube? Did I remember you guys saying that last week or am I thinking of something else?
Sometimes I'm starting to wonder if we're missing out on free. I think I watched. Yeah, I think I watched this one on prime myself. I usually check YouTube because prime does not allow you to bring up the control is easily and I'll often goof up and bounce around like crap. I don't get back to that. And also the guy that's stupid X-ray crap is always constantly trying to pop up. Very great. Like leave me alone. Oh, good news. Also on YouTube in full. Hold on. This stuff. The YouTube account that as it posted, it's in full in HD and everything. It looks good. Wide screen. It's posted by a channel called 24 million views. I feel like they're trying to pump themselves up there a little bit. Smart. Anyway, I'll give you guys a link to that. But yeah, I guess we could watch it there too. Capricorn one. We have to watch that before we see Capricorn 2 or 3. Right. And you have to watch it before you watch the recent movie Fly Me To the Moon. Yeah. That's true.
Yeah. It's Fly Me To the Moon. What is that? That's a little Scarlett Johansson. Oh, yeah. It's such a good movie. Yeah, it's really Scott. Hold on. I'm looking for it. 24. What about having the backup for the moon landing for the moon landing? Oh, the Apple. Apple produced. Man, they don't know how to make garbage. I'm telling you. It's true. Say what you want about Apple. Their TV stuff has been hot. They may be behind in the AI race. And I'm fine with that. Yes, please. But look at them go in the movie TV race. Fantastic. I hope Tim Cook wasn't the main reason. Because now the new guy may not like that. I don't know. That's going to do it for us. Big thanks everybody for listening. Filmsack.com is our website. You can find everything you need there for me, for Brian, for Brian, and for Randy. Yes. You are without FEC. We'll see you next time. Yes.
