Hello, I'm Alex Rodin with the sports today update. Today's first ever regular season NFL match at the MCG has been on wavering success. Where the San Francisco 49ers, defeating the LA Rams, Shane McKinnon's was there. The NFL couldn't have asked for any more. Perfect weather, the seventh biggest grad in Lee history and a city already asking when to redo it again. The atmosphere inside the stadium along with the activations in Yarra Park made the experience feel far bigger than anyone could have imagined with the occasion for many on par with the grand final, if not bigger. The match itself only part of the show is the
Jonas Brothers dominated half time with a rendition of John Farnham's classic, Your the Voice. The 49ers decision to arrive in Melbourne a week early paid off. They defeated the Rams 27-7 with neither team now hanging around, both back on planes to California this afternoon. Reporting from the MCG, I'm Shane McKinnon. While Rams coach Sam McVey says they were humbled today. And you know, whether you want to say it's about travel, whatever, we just weren't good enough in that window. I didn't coach good enough and we'll look at it and we'll move forward and that's where we're at right now, but it was a great atmosphere. Give credit to the 49ers. They deserve it. And we're on one and we'll move forward. 49ers coach, Kyle Shanahan says he was impressed with how the crowd embraced the game. You know, there was a little different with the cheering and stuff. I think they got to get a little used to how we do it, win two and everything like that, but the coolest part was hearing how the crowd seen the songs throughout the game. They really stuck out and which we did that more in the US. While 49ers tied in George Cudel thing, Dylan the fans for
coming out. The fact that there was a sellout crowd at 10.30 a.m. on a Friday in Melbourne, just shout out to everybody who called and sick at work today. That is they chopped a sickie and I'd love a shoeie. That's a beer out of a boot. Yeah, I don't know what it is. It's a beer out of a boot. Once you get behind the we'll do it over there. To the AFL, Brisbane coach Chris Vagan says his players are ready to attone for last weekend's disappointing loss to the swans as they prepare to take on Adelaide out the gab at tomorrow night. That's the usual reaction from the group. You know, we spent the week. We didn't spend the week. We spent Monday doing a really close review of the game last week and then we then we moved on quickly, but this group's a proud group and I'll be looking to be out to back tonight. Jolong and free man to arm preparing for their duo diet semi-final in Perth. The doctors have dropped Nathan O'Drisky for Correa Wagner while Judmick V has been recalled for the injured Brandon Walker. The cats going unchanged, opting not to recall tall defender Sam Deconning to combat Freo's key forwards. To the NRL,
the finals begin tonight and Aliant Stadium with the rabbit holes hosting the nights in an elimination final. League legend Jonathan Thurston has told Nane he's expecting plenty of points to be scored. You know, they've both teams have been decimated with injuries throughout the year, so they've done extremely well to get into the finals and now it's dual die for them, so expect a lot of points tonight. Alana Rabarkina has defeated Coco Gough to secure a title show down with a defending champion, Arena Savillenka in the US Open. Rabarkina won the semi-final match 3-6-6-4-6-4. Gough says this one hurts. My dad came up and he was like, you accomplished so many great things this summer and I was like, I don't care about this summer. So right now that's where my head is at, but it's the goal I want to be consistent player. I want to give myself as many opportunities to lift a trophy. Yeah, it's all great, but I think the competitor in me, like this is the tournament I want to perform at. I'm Alex Riddell and that's the latest from the sports today team.
